the only problem with a kriega is that they are built like a tank and you won't ever need another bag. or at least you'll have a hard justifying buying another bag. i have an R30 and i use it as my daily bag. rains a lot where i am and i never baby my bag, so yeah it's quite indestructible and completely waterproof.

I have and R22 that I use every single day of the year. It is built like a tank and has the comfort of a Rolls Royce. It may not have the gimmicks of other brands like Klim, but it sure as hell will last longer. I also love the possibility to upgrade it. For commuting the bag is more than enough, but for a trip I might add a little US Bag or even the front pockets so I can liberate some space in the bag for other stuff. Quality and reliability, that’s what anyone should be searching when looking at motorcycle gear. No one likes to be stranded on the middle of nowhere with gear that decides to go bad or arrive home to see the inside of their bag is an aquarium.

I have had my R25 since 2012. It’s rated as water resistant and have not had any significant water ingress even in heavy rain. It was well worth the money. It’s seen some hard use and still looks new. I clean it after any off-road use and always comes out looking great. I know it’s definitely not recommended but I just throw mine in the washing machine and hang to dry. Zero issues.

Kriega was a very compelling option when I wanted to buy a waterproof weatherproof motorcycle backpack, but there was a single thing that was a deal breaker for me and I didn see it mentioned in this video, so I wanted to bring it up in case someone checks the comments:
The waterproof compartment is one big sack. If you, like me, are a fan of compartments in backpacks to keep smaller stuff in a small pocket and a laptop or tablet in a laptop/tablet compartment, Kriega is likely not what you're looking for. In the end, every bit of gear involves making compromises vs what you want and what the gear available on the market can offer.

Yeah I'm facing the same issue now with a big 40l nelson rigg bag with a roll top. While it has a laptop compartment and 2 other pockets outside and bottle holders and molly straps, the weight doesn't distribute correctly without a frame and it is super uncomfortable to wear when walking.

They do sell small bags that you can fit inside the WP compartment to make it tidier.
I know is not what you wanted but, if you think about it. If they had sown(more durable solution) some pockets into the WP bag, it would probably stop being waterproof. And if you just glued the pockets into the inside of the sack that probably would not last a long time and it would either tear trough the bag or the glue wouldn’t hold up and there goes the reliability. When something absolutely has to be waterproof you don’t mess around with it with things that may render it not waterproof. You got the rest of the bag to arrange stuff, and like I said you can add small bags to the inside of the waterproof bag to keep it a bit tidier.

just curious, would you consider the Roam x Kriega 34 backpack to solve those issues? it seems way more organized than the Kriega 30, I am currently in the market for a backpack and I have the same concerns as you. Don't like the fact that it is just one big sack.

I ordered the R30 today (delivery tomorrow, thanks Sportsbikeshop), I’ve got a 162 mile round trip commute to test it out on….

Great video, thank you. I have to agree about the access though - with such a narrow opening, it's a pain in the proverbial to get most of my stuff in and out! I also don't like the second front harness - it just doesn't 'sit' where it needs to despite many adjustements - I wish my R30 had the thinner lower down straps!!

I've had an R20 backpack for over a decade and it still operates the same as day one. Plus if I remember correctly it was about $50 less than it sells for today. Either way then or now it's definitely worth every penny.

How do you find the size of the 20? Just right?
I am a sport bike guy so refuse to get panniers so thinking an r20 is the perfect solution for short road trips with friends

@@BySixa I have an R35 and it's great for commuting if I need to carry a lot on the R1. But if you only want to carry a drink and some eats, and maybe wet weather gear then a Nelson Rigg CL-1060 Tailbag is the best option by a mile.

hey man, thanks very much for your reply. I actually bit the bullet and got the r20. First impressions are really good. I will never, ever be commuting (partly because I work from home lol!) so think the 20 size is perfect for me.@@tdunster2011

Agree it’s top quality. I fell at pretty high speed years ago and my us 30 is almost not scratched.
The way you can fit the bags on a bike is very convenient. I only had naked bikes and it never was an issue: MV Agusta’s, KTM SDR’s (4 of each brand making it 8 😉).
Now I sold my Kriega backpack as I found it too bulky to go to the office and I got a very fair price out of it.
The way it looks was the only issue. And I did so because I found a replacement which is Velomacchi. It’s about the same principles as Kriega and same price range

I won’t use anything else, all my kit has been expansive and it is all over 15 years. Including my old R35 and it is still going strong. You do get what you pay for. U have 3 US40 pacs as my luggage 120ltr carrying capacity. It’s fantastic kit

Kriega are a classic case of buy once, cry once. They’re not cheap but if they fit they last damn near forever. Put yourself on the right side of the Vimes boot theory.

I have an R25 and while it looks like a good thing I have never used it. I wear a XL or 2XL shirt so am big but not huge and at max adjustment it does not fit! I have other backpacks that fit no problem. This thing is too small!! Selling unused 👎

At this day an age I don't think it is worth the money. Instead of Cordura they could move onto something like Dyneema or Spectra or any UHMWPE and make the backpack weigh half as much while keeping all the tech and make it even more wear resistant.
