      Any issues yet? I had some infotainment issues that took two dealership service department visits to get fixed. Other than that, this car has become my everyday driver. Weekday and weekends.

    I subscribed because their have been responses on every comment, which shows a lot of involvement that I like. As someone else sad, for the touring model, I wish they wouldn't have had halogen fog lights. That drives me insane, as the Accord Touring has LED fogs in the upper trims. Good review, really wish Honda would implement a volume knob in the next generation.

    Thanks for the nice review! I just drove one of these yesterday. I was impressed with the low end torque and overall smoothness of the little 1.5T. Throttle response on the one I drove was fantastic. There wasn't any lag. Maybe they've reprogrammed the ECU for better response? Overall I really enjoyed driving this car. It was totally unexpected and a nice surprise in the curves. This car actually felt stronger than my Hyundai Veloster Turbo. Honda clearly underrated the power of this vehicle.Thanks again for the great review!

    Excellent review as always. I'm an Acura salesperson and these 2016 Hondas are stealing the show when it comes to technology. Of course we have all of the safety tech, but no Apple car play or android auto... What a shame.
    Btw, you know how Honda is coming out with the civic type R in the non-USA markets? There are rumors that it will be sold in the US as an ILX type S. Honda is back, and so is Acura.
    I'm excited for the future of both brands. Thanks for the coverage.

      +Nathan Adams Yes, Honda is making moves that should prove to be very beneficial, Nathan Adams. We honestly hadn't thought about Honda much over the past few years except for good transportation, but now it seems as though they are trying to bring more emotion back into the equation. As for Acura, stay tuned. We just started working on a cool hybrid from them. Thank you for the kind words and for your support!

    Like other commentators, I think this is one good review and I've watched a lot over the past few weeks. I am still trying to decide but reviews like this, aid in the decision making. I always try out the rear seat first, before I consider any purchase. If you feel comfortable in the rear seat, odds are you'll like the rest. Then that's just myself ...

    Hi Chris, I enjoyed the road test for this Civic and it is on my list as I am torn between the Civic & Mazda 3... Which one of the two would you want sitting in your garage?

    • @christopherlawrence2123
      @christopherlawrence2123 8 років тому +1

      Hi John L. First let me give my disclaimer that my words are my own and not those of AutoAcademics, blah, blah, blah. Ok. Now that that's out of the way, it truly depends upon what you are looking for in a car. While the Civic and Mazda3 are similar in many ways, they go about it slightly differently. The Mazda3 focuses on driving dynamics more so than anything else, which is why I think it's a nice car. The 2016 Civic, while having good driving dynamics, is now a little more mature in its presentation with a quality interior and great tech. Both deliver good fuel economy (the Civic is actually better), but I really like the styling of the Mazda3 hatchback right now. With all that being said, if it were my only car, I'd probably go with the Civic with all its bells and whistles and decent driving dynamics. However, because I am currently hoping to add a fun car to my stable, in addition to my wagon, I'd probably go with the Mazda3 hatch with a manual transmission. Hope I didn't confuse you more, John L. LOL We appreciate you watching and let us know what you end up getting. Happy shopping!

      +AutoAcademics you're not the first reviewer to say that about a Honda cvt. A lot of reviewers like Honda cvt and say they're very un-cvt like compared to nissan and other CVTs

      ***** We actually feel as though Nissan does a decent job with their CVTs also (well, for the most part), but the one in this Civic was pretty decent.

    Nice Review AutoAcademics...
    I am considering several hybrid mid sizers but this compact as well. Since you were able to acheive the 35 mpg, did you have to keep it ECON to acheive that? From a full tank, what did the cruising range show?

    • @AutoAcademics
      @AutoAcademics  8 років тому

      +therealme812 We had a mix of ECON mode and the regular mode during testing, but we never "babied" the throttle. We wanted to enjoy the car while we had it, and enjoy it we did. Unfortunately, we don't remember what the full tank cruising range was and it would be a disservice to you to try to speculate. Thank you for your comments and for watching, too!

    You said, "It's not an Si." in regards to performance. Did you know that this new 1.5T in the 2016 Civic actually makes this new vehicle much more powerful than even the previous generation Civic Si? It's been tested at the drag strip. Even in Economy mode in regular Drvie, NOT Sport, the 2016 1.5T Civic is still faster than the 2015 Civic Si.

    i heard honda is making a Type-R Honda, but if they make a U.S based one. Will it hold value since it's U.S based?

    • @AutoAcademics
      @AutoAcademics  8 років тому

      +Contane 21 We wouldn't worry about value unless you plan on getting one and not driving it. Being a Type R, it's resale value will be worth more than the other models, but that will be relative. They sell A LOT of Civics around the world and it will be 30 years before true value would even possibly come into play. We say, if you get one, enjoy it!

      We guess passing power will be relative to what you are used to, Robert Beckwith. If you drive a Corvette, it will be lacking at best. • @AutoAcademics
      @AutoAcademics  8 років тому +1

      That's a tough one, tanush216. Originally, we'd say it depends on if you want a hatchback or a sedan, but now that Honda has recently announced the hatchback Civic, we'd have to try that one first before making a decision. We loved the tech in the Civic, but the Golf is a buttoned up and mature driver. We like that new Civic 1.5T engine, but if you start talking GTI with the DSG, now you've got an entirely different animal. We say drive them both and see which one speaks to you more. Sorry we couldn't help any further. Thanks for watching!

      @AutoAcademics  8 років тому

      +gladdy02 Was this the car that you were expecting a poor review on, gladdy02? You have to watch and listen carefully. Chris (our presenter) has a rather clever way of expressing negative attributes in a positive way. While there was very little to critique on the all-new 2016 Civic (because yes, we really do like it), there are definitely vehicles that we have not been very fond of in one way or another. Long story short, no one likes to be talked about in a bad way, and this includes car manufacturers. If we start bashing cars for the sake of bashing them, the manufacturers will stop giving them to us to test. We're sure you can understand the impact of that. So we ask that you watch and listen carefully to get the entire message that we are sending about each car. We appreciate your comment. Thanks for watching!

    Honda civic stepped up their game with both interior and exterior. But, again the car is low priced for a reason. And the downsides are? Besides the lack of power from a dead stop and the (in our opinion) frustrating touchscreen volume slider, what else is there to complain about? Is this a perfect car? No, but for the price it is definitely a really good car, and possibly tops in its category for 2016. We appreciate your comments and are curious to hear your thoughts. Thanks for watching!

    They left out the surging problems the 1.5T is having while holding speeds above 45mph, the no audio glitch that has not been fixed with the updates with all the touring models and the annoying rattles in the back deck around the center brake light. Honestly this car was not ready for production

      +Lawrence Khellendrose (Khellendros) I have not heard about all of these issues with the new Civics. Do you know of any links where I can read more about these problems???

      +Lawrence Khellendrose (Khellendros) Hi, Lawrence Khellendrose (Khellendros). With regards to the issues that you (or others) may have experienced when driving the 2016 Civic, we can only report on what we experience. And in our experience the car was really good. We did not hear any rattles and the only surging that we think people may have experienced could be coming from turbo lag / turbo boost. If you recall in our video around 5:14, we alluded to how if the turbo is not spooled up, you will experience what feels like zero power, because unfortunately, that is what a 1.5L engine in a car has....zero power. LOL That is, unless it uses forced induction (turbocharging or supercharging) like this Civic, but the turbo needs to be active to make the necessary power. We also have to keep in mind that this car has a CVT, not a traditional transmission, so it is always "changing" its gearing which can cause a loss of boost while cruising at 45 mph. If the driver wants to go faster, he/she gives more throttle input than might be necessary in a naturally aspirated engine, the turbos eventually spool up, and now you have all 174-hp surging when you weren't expecting it.
      Finally, any and all updates to the audio must have been resolved, as the only issue we had with it was that dang touchscreen volume slider. Now obviously, these our just our experiences with this car and we're not saying that some or all of your concerns haven't happened. They just didn't happen to us. We appreciate your comments and hope this explains our views on the 2016 Civic. Thanks for watching!

    • @khellendrose360

      +AutoAcademics the audio issues takes time to surface. I had the first issue after about a week. as for the surging, it occurs only when holding a set speed either on cruise or off cruise. According to the boost Guage the turbo is not indicating any boost when it's surging.

    Thats why you get manual to control that turbo

    • @AutoAcademics
      @AutoAcademics  8 років тому

      +Alex Garcia A manual will help... a bit. But the turbo lag will still present itself unless you regularly slip or dump the clutch in an effort to keep the revs up. This, however, still does not take away from our feelings about this car. We appreciate your comment. Thanks for watching!

  • @cardude1992
    @cardude1992 8 років тому

    Why don't they offer the 1.5 turbo with a 6 speed manual? That sucks!

    • @AutoAcademics
      @AutoAcademics  8 років тому

      The adoption rates for manual transmission are incredibly low, cardude1992. So manufacturers will typically sell their best components (engine/transmission packages, technology, etc.) in packages where they can get the best returns for them. Now sure if we're explaining this correctly, but stay tuned for the Civic Si. That will probably solve some of your concerns. Thank you for sharing and for watching, too!

    • @cardude1992
      @cardude1992 8 років тому

      which means they are just not considerate enough to put in that extra bit if effort for the people who would like to buy a manual civic

    • @AutoAcademics
      @AutoAcademics  8 років тому +1

      cardude1992 Well, unfortunately, consideration rarely comes into business, cardude1992. This is why iPhones don't have removable batteries or why some physical magazine subscriptions don't have free digital subscriptions. We'd all love to have that stuff, but it doesn't make good business sense for those particular companies. Honda does still make a manual transmission for the Civic, it just isn't available with the 1.5L turbo.... yet. Remain patient and you just might get your wish, though. We appreciate your comments.

      +W-_-T LOL You'd be surprised how many vehicles of all prices do that, W-_-T. It's something that we notice as well, but we can't ding a Civic for doing it if Lexus (CT and IS 350), Ford (Platinum F-150), GMC (Yukon Denali), Toyota (Avalon Limited), and Cadillac (previous-gen Escalade) have all done, or currently are doing it. And these are just a few examples from the cars we've tested over the past couple of years. But we hear ya! Thank you for your comments and thanks for watching, too!

      @AutoAcademics  8 років тому

      +Constantine Joseph Hi, Constantine. We did not test 0-60, however, reports around the internet have it from high 6's to high 7's. It's not a rocket ship, but the seat of your pants feeling is still pretty good once you are moving. Like Chris (our presenter) said, it kind of bogs down when at a stop until the turbo spools up. Then it is a much more lively car. Thanks for watching!

    • @AutoAcademics
      @AutoAcademics  8 років тому +1

      We had a hard time grasping that price as well, Tom Shong, when we first heard it. Then we spent time with it and it began to make more sense. Consumers are beginning to pay more for small cars with premium features so that they can get better fuel economy without having to sacrifice all the bells and whistles. This, arguably, is one of the reasons why Mercedes sells the GLA, BMW sells the 1-series and Audi sells the A3 (though we think it's also those brands' attempts at garnering brand loyalty sooner). Plus, the Civic is now leaning on the midsize car classification, offering more features than what a comparatively priced Accord can offer. The lines continue to blur, and while $27k is a lot of money, the 2016 Civic Touring is a lot of car. Thank you for sharing and for watching!

    While initially pleased, after 8 months of owning a 2016 Civic, I'm very disappointed. The mileage is very good and the front seats are quite comfortable, but I'm not too keen on the CVT (not at all fun too drive...unless you like golf carts), the lack of a volume knob and, in my opinion, it doesn't even come close to my 2007 Civic with regard to quality. In particular, I think they have a major issue with the floors. I invite anyone looking at purchasing a 2016 to compare the driver's side floor/kickboard with the passenger side first hand. The Honda rep said that the sinking floor is "characteristic of the 2016 Civic." (Guessing the new term for "design flaw" might be "characteristic.")
    Here's what mine looks like after 8 months and 6,500 miles:
    ua-cam.com/video/qTu5xPI5h6A/v-deo.html
    Video, even without sound, speaks for itself. Think what it'll look like in 2-3 years. Do you want to sink $20K into a car if you are going to see this every time you get in it? And, if you do, don't even bother with the $155 high-walled mats as they'll most likely quickly deform like mine did.

      +buildmorefarms100 LOL on paper, you have a point, buildmorefarms100. Some of our friends outside of the industry feel the same way. But probably the most difficult thing to convey through a video is the emotional side of this car. It's rare when you feel good driving a garden-variety compact car, yet we did in this. And very few of us have any former personal ties to the brand, either. Ok, we're getting off our soapbox now. As always, we appreciate your comments. Thanks for watching!

      +AutoAcademics Nice review of this car and I test drove it last week along with the Accord Sport. This turbo DOES add much more power to the car than what I was expecting. But I am NOT tech-savvy and do not really need all the technology in this Civic Touring car. And this new Civic does NOT have a cd player but the Accord still does! And have you test driven the new Accord Sport?? It seems to have enough of what I need, though some have claimed that the 19" tires give the car too firm of a ride and you feel more bumps than desired. But I still loved the ride of this car and the Civic and am leaning towards buying the Accord Sport later in the year.
