Hello will I need your help how can I get in touch with you thanks
He's Baaack! Always good seeing another video, Will! That said, quick suggestion for a future video series... how about going back to your roots some and doing a deep dive series on what your ideal "budget" and "mid-grade" systems of choice would be for a class C Motorhome, that could easily handle weeks/months of off-grid camping and not take up too much space(!?)
Which one is the best? Which one are you recommend for your whole home?
Is there any chance that you could do a video explaining what needs to be done to use an EV as a battery backup for a solar system?
Thank you so much for continuing to make these videos I can’t tell you how useful this has been I’m about to upgrade my cabin to a house and will be using a lot of what I’ve learned here again thank you so much😁
Super informative and actually addressed my concern about cobalt as well. Thanks for making this
Love that you made this. I so could have used something this simple when I was pulling my hair out. Aside from the lack of documentation on the capacitors, Signature Solar has become so popular thanks to your forum and DIYers' recommendations, that I don't know that their staffing is up to the influx of orders. They absolutely did their best to help us make it right after I put my foot down on being overlooked for multiple shipments. We're happy overall.
Will, Thanks for your time and effort with your videos. Had the opportunity to meet you at the Pine Valley Rec Area. Thanks again for all you do.
Thank's Will for your work and wise reviews that give all us alternatives to our needs. Once again... Thank's!!!!👍
JUST WOW! What a terrific stack you have going on! I appreciate all your videos... I seriously started learning enough to give me the confidence to buy my first small set up... I am a slow learner... your teaching method is awesome! THANK YOU!!!
I love the EG4-LL batteries, and the battery cabinet with the mesh door that they offer. Perfect match up.
Hi Will, thanks again for sharing your extensive knowledge. I have watched several of your videos and I always end up taking notes because you cover a great deal of information, usable information that is critical to understanding everything one needs to know regarding off grid solar power. I can’t tell you how much I admire and respect your work.
Tim Muir
You're the best Will! Love your helpful videos. You helped me realize we are going into a golden age of offgrid living and responsible sustainable independent living.
Thank you Will for all of your wonderful videos! Together, they represent a priceless knowledge base on this subject and your upbeat demeanor, even in the face of not the greatest discovery, is always welcome and sometimes entertaining! You and another UA-cam guy (who builds cool stuff) present some comical stories of dealing with battery sources in countries very different from our own. I'll simply say that facts don't care about feelings and some suppliers just can't appreciate that.
I am writing this as I sit in my tiny RV where I live completely off grid, in the middle of the city and hear my propane fueled generator humming away in the background.
After surviving on a pair of huge 12 volt SLA RV batteries wired in parallel, a 30 y/o 600/1200 watt Chinese inverter, and my Westinghouse Wgen3600DF generator (with R/C!) for a little over a year, I purchased a PowMR brand "Solar Inverter Charger" (POW-LVM3.0K-24V) and one Chins 24 volt/100Ah lithium battery and am awaiting my own decision on solar panels. I'm considering higher output (200 watt
So glad to see you posting again my friend. Was starting to worry about you.
Will, you are awesome, been following you since your van stuff. Really proud of how far you have gone and cant wait to see where you go. Such a good looking guy with knowledge beyond most 2x your age. Continue your good work, always happy to logging into youtube and seeing a new video by you.
Yup
After watching your vids, I took the jump n purchased the EG4 batt package. This is another excellent overview.
Good lord, I'm looking at those 17+ rack mounted batteries and just drooling. I just wish I could afford 5 (currently have 1 and expanding as I can).
"This system is pretty large" yes, it's beautiful
The cost on this stuff is nuts. BUT....of youbhave a way to pay for it even a loan...and if you size it out to cover your utilities...set the term up to current utility payments and folks would be surprised how fast the return actually is.
@@wadebrewer7212 20 years isn't really that fast when your in your late 50's lol
@@phillmckrakin2518 I'm in my 40s....I can ALMOST relate.
I look at it like this....I am going to be paying someone something every month for heating, cooling and electricity, might as well be paying the mortgage company and have something to show for it. Besides....doesnt have to be a 20 year line of credit. Make it 10 or 15.
We have been programmed wrong. We don't bat an eye buying a vehicle for 40 or 50 grand only to be worn out and worth 20% if we are lucky of what we paid for it by the end of the term.
Buying/building a power plant for your property appreciates over time in two ways. Both in rising energy costs and in you property value.
I want to start with something small, but I dream of this system.
Very effective, concise and informative. It's a breath of fresh air to see a person who is passionate about something and then delivers quality, edited videos in order to share what is actual helpful and meaningful information. Congrats on your life choices and your vision of how life should be. Keep doin you man cuz it's contagious. :)
One hundred percent agree
A treasure. Your knowledge and experience is more valuable than gold
Very much appreciate your channel. Please continue to help us all forward.
Those Trophy batteries with the heaters are really cool. The RV and off-grid customers should be buying those like crazy!
I have a single 24v EG4-LL, and I love it. I built my own rack and made slots for 3 batteries. So hopefully I can get 2 more in the future.
Great video Will. Just realized you're over 700k subs. Congrats man and hoping you hit the mil subs soon.
would love a video in the same style of comparison,
but for inverters.
love the videos, keep up the good work.
Thank you very much Mr. Prowse for these explanations !
People used to look for the Gold Seal of Approval we look for the Will Prowse seal of approval. Thanks man your videos are always so informative. Even when your "it's so easy" makes me say "for you". Thanks🙂
Facts. I don't a single thing for my system without checkung out Will's review first. Even something I already have, I still look for an update from Will. (See his weize battery update as a reason why...they started to make em crappier over time)
thank you !!!...because of your videos, i am going to do the solar !!!
Great job Will. Thanks!
Jakiper now has fantastic support my questions were answered almost immediately. Thank you Jakiper ! 5*
You're the top battery/solar advisor in all of youtube. Thank you for sharing your knowledge with us noods*
I have 5 of the EG4 w/ LCD Screens and love them, not a single issue in over a year.
Good info mate. … appreciate all your efforts to give us honest opinions.
Cheers
Great video. Felt like forever since you’ve dropped a video
Yeah, Current Connected has OUTSTANDING support. I'm a DIYer in a dinky mountain town so support had a lot to do with purchasing 3 48s. Other contenders fell way short in pre-sale questions and it cost them the sale.
Love your stuff!! Keep 'em coming!!
Great video! I just dipped my toe into solar power with an inexpensive panel and a power station. I had no idea about the rabbit hole I'd fallen into! Never thought I'd be lusting after batteries but here I am LOL!
GREAT presentation and SO much valuable information.. Thanks.
Another GREAT VIDEO! Thanks Will!
Hello. In Europe, last three months we work with SYL Battery (a subsidiary of Risen group). Model name GS Energy GBL2.45K3. Pretty good quality, reminds me Pylontech US2000 or Aoboet Uhome-LFP 2400. Also good one is ZETARA 51.2V-100Ah, HIGHSTAR HSD5870, Rosen LFP48V100AH. Tnx for your work, I learned from your videos.
All your content is top notch . thanks !
THanks again Will I always learn from you videos. I converted my 36 volt EZGO TXT to Lithium and love it, although there were some issues and it was a pain in the beginning like they sent the first pack with there charge (cheep) and they neglected to set the charge voltage to high 58 volts. So I returned the whole thisng and they resent and it was damaged. they sent a new everything it just took a month or more each time but ultimately it all works. Occasionally it just stops for a few seconds Im pretty sure it is either over current or over temp. but it clears relatively quickly. THe BMS in my pack is not the greatest Im sure there using better ones now. There was a weird problem I got a good charger to replace the Big Battery charger with a Lester Sumitt II but I could not get it to charge all the way, I worked with Lester for about a month, my hope is that they create a profile that works . My wife has a 48Volt Club Car when those batteries die I will probably replace with EG4-WP it should fit I think. If any one has advice please share I will post he same on the forum. What is your relationship with Big Battery now I know you had issues early.
Thanks Will! In the process of building a metal building home for our Super C RV.. Rather than have a meter and power to it I'm planning on all solar.
I was waiting for this AWESOME video :) :) :) Thanks Will!!!!
Thanks buddy!!! Glad you like it 😁
@@WillProwse loved your quote near the end of the video "I do not like sleeping at night knowing I have any cobalt based chemistry anywhere near my property". Yeah....I've had experience with a NCM battery exploding while I was camping, what a show!
Hi Chrome Last year i was using 2 canbat bateries that you got. But this year i switch to one 400ah Ampere Time .Iam loving it!! one batterie instead of 4 and the price of two canbat. Good Custumer service & no bad reviews that i could find. 🙂😎
Love to see the golf cart make an appearance, been dreaming of a battery conversion once the FLA craps out
Thanks will. Another very informative video!.
Thank you will, right before I am ready to buy 30kwh of battery. I'm somewhat disappointed with the golf cart. Grab that B grade pack you had before and make a real battery that fits. Could be a great time to do BMS round up again now that so many use Bluetooth and have apps that support them. Thank you for all your time and energy regarding this.
Sounds to me like the SOK batteries are likely to be the go-to for me as previously planned.
Fantastic info as usual. Thank you.
This guy is the ultimate prepper of doom on YT. Well done sir.
Your content is outstanding and has motivated me to dive into the server rack battery world. With respect to your last comment, about American made server rack batteries - you identified a need - and it seems like you have a background perfect for it, at least technically ; Have you considered getting into the business? You should!
Very cool comparison! I’d love to have any one of those racks! Are you planning to do another live Q&A soon? I really enjoy those.
Another great video Will. Have you considered a review on the SEPLOS line of batteries?
Yay new video ! Can you talk more about solar panel and setup?
Good to see your post! I agree, the USA should be building these battery's,
Great overview, thanks a lot! In South Africa Pylontech is quite revered, you seemed to hint that they might have problems, would be very interested to see a tear down. Also please pimp out that golf cart with some custom battery holders! Would be a cool project. The center of gravity on that thing gives me the heebie jeebies!
Okay that makes sense that brings clarity to my mind thank you
It's funny, everything Will puts together on this channel is very high quality and looks professionally done. Except for the battery set up of that golf cart. That looks like something I'd put together with crap I found in my shop.
I love to seeing progress
Great stuff as usual. Thanks for all you do! Question, doing the Dewalt rack with EG4's (30kw). No issue setting them on their side like the Jakipers? Don't think so but wanted to ask. Keep up the great content. Love it!
I use the same racks in our shop. Have 4 of the large 7 foot racks. Super heavy duty
Just had off grid solar done last year and due to budget constraints I had to settle for 40 kwh lead acid. Will save up to buy the next generation of batteries for when these die. Each of my current battery packs is 1700 lbs had to use an engine hoist to move them into place
Great video as usual. I'd love to see a comparison of the various inverter data interfaces, as smart home integration options.
As always excellent video thank you 😊
Love all your videos..I so want to use server rack on my boat..but worry about the high corrosive environment
Will has all the toys!
you could use 2 bat protects 220amp out and 65 in on option C from the mppt and still use the bms. appreciate all your content.
With all those batteries piling up, I would think you would be running out of room for new projects. Time to think about possibly a friend build, or maybe supporting some organization downtown, or maybe even consider some type of a give away. I know your fans would really enjoy the latter. Thanks for all you have done in contributing your knowledge and promoting DIY solar builds.
Glad you made a note about the vibration for the camper and RV crowd.
Could you do an overlander vid to cover the good/bad of solar system for them?
Thanks for this look at these batteries. The pros and cons are really good to hear. The little rant about the lack of USA manufacturing is SPOT on. We coule be making them here except we have too much corporate greed and far to many C-suite people who have to keep all the money.
I just bought two jakiper batteries. Happy enough with that.
Dude. Love your videos. Would enjoy a brew or 2 and compare notes. Thanks for the great vids.
Wow. Good video. Thanks, Will.
My 36v Golf Cart is working great with raw cells (LF280K) and a DALY BMS (250A Smart). Takes work to make the battery bay ready to receive the pack, and some basic water proofing/shedding, but more capacity/less money if you're willing to do some work to build the box. That's a video right there if I've ever heard of one :).
Great review of what's out there.
interesting on the overcurrent issues with the single battery vs multiple. I just tested a powerqueen, single 12v, 100ah, running through a Roarbatt 2000watt inverter, on a ryobi circular saw, and a Rigid Table saw. Both showed mid 300's inrush, but both worked fine. I was surprised, and the circular saw was running at 1100 watts continuously, which is pretty close to powerqueen's 1200 watt stated limit. It's going to make for a great combo for a mobile solar generator.
Hi Will firstly Ive learned much from your videos so many thanks for doing them. I would like to ask some advice. I live in the UK so I realise things maybe a little different to your place.
I have solar panels on the rear of my property approximately 3.7kw. It is grid tied at the moment. I would very much like to add some batteries to save some of the energy produced over night. I am unsure whether I need to change my inverter. I am an older person but very keen to learn and understand. thanks for what you do. In my view you are an excellent presenter and educationalist. I have really enjoyed most if not all of your content to this point. You deserve all that you make in my opinion. Regards Colin
Thank you for all you do
He's BAAAACK! I've been checking on the daily for a new video, glad to see one pop up. Perfect timing since I got a cabin recently and am making a plan to use all server rack batteries for the cabin and then the garage I'll be building on the property.
You know that you can subscribe to his channel and turn on notifications and that increases what UA-cam pays him right?
@@duunoit I'm already subscribed with notifications, but I stopped paying attention to those alerts at the top right since it gets flooded with too many other notifications
Totally agree! These need to be manufactured in North America so that we're not as reliant on overseas; you'd think shipping costs alone would make up the difference. But I'm sure it still comes down to labour costs. Thanks for this quick overview!
The reason is simple. Cost, everything went to China because labor was cheap and safety was not a concern.
@@stephenbeeson1521 Lets hope robots bring manufacturing back to the US
Always look forward to your stuff Will...Great job. You are absolutely correct...why can't we manufacture a box with some cells?
Will- first time viewer- VERY IMPRESSED with your knowledge and presentation!!!!! You make it look SO easy!!!!!! hahaha Question: there 'might' be a few of us who want the back up battery option just for emergencies. While reading a Tesla battery site, one comment I noted was, "IF YOU NEVER USE THIS BATTERY, IT WILL LAST FOREVER. THAT would be the goal of my impending storage investment- maximum longevity. I only plan to use it during a long-term power outage. Unsure it would justify a full video presentation, but what would help us reach that goal of maximizing longevity at the cost of not using...trickle charging? Full charging? No charging and/or somehow putting the batteries in a 'hibernation phase'? Warm? Hot? Cool? Cold? Circulation? Thanks to the above video, I am seriously considering the EG4LL. A great service you are providing! A sincere thank you sir!!!!!!! Barry Thompson near Sedona
I use a separate 20A switch with a 10 ohm 50 Watt wire-wound precharge series resistor in parallel with the main battery switch. This makes powering up the converter from batteries much easier.
Wow, that's a lot of rack batteries! Interesting to hear of pre-charge problems with the EG4 - mine worked perfectly with one LV6548 (haven't tried it with two).
Yeah I've actually connected it without precharge, had a huge spark and it worked great. I've actually done it multiple times off camera 😂 but some people are having a lot of issues with it on the forum sadly.
@@WillProwse hey Will great video. Have you tried out any of the gsl energy products? Server racks, power walls and inverters? Cheers David
@@WillProwse Maybe with the higher volume, it has uncovered issues more quickly. Watching AmbitionStrikes video with CurrentConnected, they mentioned that the SOK battery pre-charge system was not enough to handle charging a pair of Victron Quatro. They manually charged with a resistor before making the connection.
@@ericl5973 yes very good point. I have seen the internals and the cap bank on those units is massive. Smart to manually pre charge those.
@@offugo-adventures I have not. I'll check them out
I'm using Pylontech US3000 (3.5KWH) very popular in France too. Thanks for your videos'
Damn! That was a great video!
great edu videos, thank you
Great review! Thank you!
Another fantastic video thank you Will. You mentioned trying to get your hands on some Pylontech batteries for testing. This would be much appreciated as I have just purchased two US3000c Pylontech batteries. We can just about get them in the UK, I ordered and paid in early April and delivered September 7th. This is no fault of the supplier at least they were honest enough to sell for msrp unlike some others charging 50% more. I would be very interested in what the God of Lifepo4 thinks of them! Also they seem to support several comunication protocols, so it would be interesting which inverters communicate best. I've just bought the Sofar me3000sp inverter/charger for AC coupling to an existing grid tied Solar panel system that I can't modify as it was free and doesn't belong to me. Like so many in the UK, it was installed by an Investment House to capitalise on high Government Feed In Tariffs that were axed long ago. Their meter is just after the inverter so I can use all the power generated and they still get paid the Feed In Tarriff. Therefore, more coverage of AC coupled systems would also be appreciated. Thank you for providing excellent content, without your guidance I wouldn't have known lifepo4 chemistry is the way to go👍
Great INFO.Thank You
Great Job!! Love your videos, and we are all gaining great knowledge from you! Quick Question i hope Will or another subscriber could help answer: Why are none of the ethernet ports (or communication ports) on the front of these server batteries in use?
I thought connrcting the batteries using these ports helped them communicate with each other, perhaps to help even out the drain / charge of the batteries when used together in a rack?
Wah... begitu banyak baterai yang anda miliki. Mantap sekali, Tuan...
Hi Will, what about the Seplos DIY rack battery packs? Could be a great idea for a lot of people that have already purchased the 280ah cells that have to continually monitor the packs and want to upgrade the storage system to be more professional. Cheers Brendan from Oz. BTW luv your channel, you’ve helped a lot of people including myself, keep up the great work!
Great summary review. UL certified and UL Listed is important. I believe Pytes has a server rack battery with UL certified status.
Seplos. I have 7 of them. Not bad. Very similar to SOK in implementation, but they make their own BMS.
Thank you for the video Will. You have been a great source of DIY info on solar. We appreciate your knowledge and guidance.
Thank You
This might sound strange, but I think a lot of people do not understand what a "Server Rack Battery" is and so they do not bother to click these type of very useful videos. They need to understand it is just a typical shelf (i.e. rack) that holds several batteries connected in series or parallel to provide electrical storage power. A very simple thing. Once they understand, you will get many more hits.
Bty, I love my Dewalt Rack!!!
Will, the reason why they are not made in the USA simply comes down to economics. The average salary in China is about $16,000 USD per year. Compared to about $56,000 in the U.S. Also, the cost of an employee in the U.S. is quite high (in addition to the salary paid - ask any business owner). We Americans, me included, demand high salaries but also demand paying the lowest price we can for our goods. If the manufacturing of the item requires humans to touch it, it will be far more expensive from countries like the U.S., Canada, Germany, etc... It could be argued that you are getting a better product, "you get what you pay for", but most people don't care about that. For most, not all, but most, it comes down to price. There is a lot of information about this subject out there if you want to be put to sleep. You provide a great service to this community. Keep it up.
Everyone focuses the hourly wage, but not the taxes, grift, regulations, and as you mentioned, the cost of renting the tax slave from the government. The cost of shipping one of those batteries to the US is about $500 all included, so why aren't we making them here? Because the Chinese are pro business and the USA is not. Sad but true...
Perhaps we can fix that by instead of paying our taxes we pool the money together within our communities with people we trust, make everyone there a manager, buy gold and silver make paper money out of that backed by those precious metals then fund building these manufacturers to then produce this batteries at a set price. Idk just a thought
LIke the city states from a few millennia ago? @@thomaspayne7800
I wish they'd just drop the tariff and we could buy these without all the additional tax. The government dumps money into green initiatives but won't give us normal citizens access to cheap energy storage subsidized by China. What are they really trying to accomplish by giving us a tax credit then adding a bunch of tax to import the hardware.
It'd be awesome to buy one of these for under $1000 bucks and take some energy off the grid.
Well done , with this video .
Got the same Ryobi leaf blower. It’s great.
I just stared using the Growatt 48v 5kwh Axe battery through Signature Solar. They are the easiest battery I have ever used. They plug into each other in stacks of up to 10 high. So far so good.
I just bought the 48 volt 2.5 Kwh ark and so far ,, very happy
Outstanding comparison...
