Sorry you are not feeling too good Jessie. So very good of you to still do a video for us, hope you feel better soon. Only indoor space is a tiny grow house planning lettuce and thanks to you carrots. Outdoor on the allotment garlic going in Saturday (soft neck and hardback ordered early), onions and spring onions some in, more to go in, various brassicas and Broad Beans always go in at half term. Touch wood never had a failure sowing at that time. Stay well Jessie.
I put all my beds to sleep but one in the winter. In the one I put half garlic and the other half whatever I pull out of my seed box. Take care of yourself Jessie.

I'm a barefoot person generally but sadley thats out the window.... i've recently discovered innersoles and how much of a difference they make! I will look up the shoes, thank you!
I shut down my allotment in October and set it up to grow some winter crops (can't get into my allotment in the winter) and start up my at home winter garden, in containers. Greens for the winter, etc. And all kinds of onions. And garlic. Had a bumper crop last year so not having to source them. They're easy to do in containers. If it can grow through the winter in out my back door, they get their place in my winter garden.
If you are still looking for garlic, DT Brown online has garlic and shallots 🙂. I currently have Brussel sprouts, winter cabbage, calabrese and purple sprouting all on the plot. Plus garlic, elephant garlic and onion sets still to plant. My garlic is saved from this year's harvest.

So I WILL be growing over winter for the first time. Had my plot 7m x 20m for three years, I have been enjoying your content for six months. The first video I watched contained you and your double bed. Two days latter I came across a similar bed in a neighbours garden. She was happy for me to save her a trip to the tip. You did not mention was a schlep it is to strip it down. Over 2000 staples latter and you have still not said what you are doing with it ??? LOL Thanks again for your great work .

Just look after yourself Jess, no matter how many vlogs you put out each week we’ll still be here ready to watch any morsels you put our way. Usually we pack up for winter but am going to try a few things this winter and keep going. That’s the plan but will see how it actually goes. Take care x
Hello Jessie I’ve been following you all summer and enjoying all the fun on your allotment. I got my half allotment in December last year, I’m no dig , vegan, and organic. I’m thrilled with a very successful harvest and the allotment has fed me all summer. You asked your followers if they work their plots through winter or bed them down, I’m hoping to keep growing with sprouts, kale, kaleletts, purple sprouting,
Hi Alison! Ooooh so this is your first full winter on the plot! Thats exciting. I hope you have better Brussel-sprout-luck than i do, i'm so hoping for some good ones this year!
i planted supermarket generic garlic last year and from different shops some organic and i got massses of garlics and itll last months ive never had proper ones from a garden shop
Hi Jess, I've had an allotment since 2014, I've never grown much through winter except the brassicas that come with with slugs like yours, haha, I was thinking of giving up my lotty earlier in the year as the weeds were getting on top of me, but then I found you! Your Vlogs keep me motivated to keep going with it, I'm basically copying you with seed sowings and plantings so Cheers for all your advice Jess!
Hi..just put onions in poly and outdoor..have Kohlrabi in poly and white turnip...toms almost done for this year...planted spring bulbs crocuses and daffs...intend to keep allotment going. Love tobe in the poly when its raining...thnk u.
Thanks again Jessie and Mom. I do not grow over winter - because 3 feet snow and freezing temps. I am rubbish at growing garlic. Frankly, I welcome the end of the growing season...
Thanks Theresa. Growing year round is such an art, isn't it? I'm hoping this year i'm going to get it better than last year because i was all out of sync by spring this year... hahaha!
Horrible to have sore feet. I grow throughout the year. I grew cauliflowers, purple sprouting broccoli, herbs etc. I tried lettuce but it rotted off. I have chard in and outside this year. That is why I like your vlog. I had never heard of chard! Now it is a favourite. I am trying carrots in bags in the polytunnel.
In Atlanta Georgia US I should be able to coax some plants to make through our winter. I am always amazed by the reasonable prices and large selection, of seeds/bulbs in the UK.
I live in Austria, where winters can get quite cold, but I have a very good cold frame in which I grow all my salads, mostly asian mixtures, kale and spinache. My kale varieties give me harvest until late spring and the chard will survive more or less under cover. That's it. Get well soon!
Forget shallot sets! Grow from seed in Jan / Feb! I tried this year first time after never getting good size 'splits' from sets here in Midlands. They were the Longor type. When you grow from seed you only get one big shallot per seed, like onion from seed. Mine were absolute stonkers!! Give it a go. I also did onions from seed and a good crop. Garlic still from sets. Got mine at an RHS Malvern autumn show. Good luck! Ps love the funky camera angles. And you look good no matter what the angle. 🤪
Last year was the first year i haven't grown the from seed but i'll definitely be going back to it this year. They are so good aren't they!! and so reliable. I love Zebrune! But i've got Figaro to try too this year.
I thought I was the only allotment holder who used a spreadsheet! Like you I have already mapped out what I am growing next year although I haven't yet figured out how to fit it all in the plot.
Hope your feet get better soon Jessie. I've put winter cabbage in and I have some kale to go in too. If I can find some garlic I might try it as never grown it before. Thanks for a great vlog again. Take care x
Hi Jessie, we love your vlogs (is that even a word?)so much...so anyway here we are in central France at about 2100 ft(700 metres) with a climate that was not dissimilar to central UK.perhaps 10 degrees warmer in summer 10 degrees colder in winter ...but over the years its changed a lot ..our season used to be short ..15th May (last frost) to endish of August (first frost)...with temps. in spring about 15-20C plenty of rain and sun .....summer 30degrees ish and some rain...Autumn used to come with a rush and then Winter -18 -20C not rare .........last 2 years have changed though ,Spring wet and cold , floods in june ....Summer 40-50 C and no rain and Autumn very late no rain ,first frost -2 yesterday...17th Oct....we plant soft neck Garlic (about 100 or so )Germidor violet and a new one this year Messidrone (very big app.)..so before it was impossible to grow anything through winter (except the garlic/onions, broad beans and cabbage)now though not so sure, so will try a few things .....Cheers Jessie keep on doing what you do x
I ordered my garlic about six weeks ago from The Really Garlicky Company. I ordered two bulbs (small garden, in containers) and got three (bonus!). I didn't want to wait too long. I ordered the Hardneck Porcelain and got 19 cloves from the three they sent. I'm also going to preorder my seed potatoes, because I didn't have any this year. I hope you're not feeling the pressure to put out two videos. It must be a lot of work to produce two per week. I'm going to be starting a channel of my own soon (specifically for container gardening) and will likely only be able to put out one every week or two. I've learned so much from watching your videos. Thank you! ☺️
Next year i'm going to order it! I like going to a physical shop but you rarely actually get exactly what you're after do you?! I'll have a look at really Garlicky! Oh exciting to start your channel Robin! Yeah, 2 per week is just a bit much at the moment for me... lol!
@@JessieatPlot37 I work full time, run a home business, and studying for a degree, so I'm glad my son has agreed to help me with editing. Spare time, eh?? 😂
We have our fall/winter garden started here in central USA. 🌱🥦🥬🥕🥬 Always such a joy coming along with you both. Your plot is really coming together for fall/winter!
If all your doing is storing your garlic for a few months after harvest before you finish it off, why not try saving the good bulbs instead so that you can use them for seed garlic a couple of months later. They store fine in a dry dark place from June/July until Oct/Nov when its time to plant them out again. Self sufficiency. In a few years you could have enough garlic planted each fall to last the majority of the following year and I can pretty much guarantee it will be better than store bought. Plant them with a good distance between them and you can easily interplant and the smell of the garlic generally keeps away the bugs that like the spring greens.
I like to troop on through the winter. I haven't got much planted to actually harvest during winter or spring this year because the entire garden was stuffed full of annual veg in the summer and I could barely keep on top of it. I need to work on my perennial game, so i'll be doing that and landscapey things. I filled most of my beds with onion and garlic sets just to have something.
Hey Jessie, another super blog post thank you. What a shame about your Squires nor having the garlic. It is weird as I happened to go into mine yesterday as I needed bark clippings for the paths between my veggie beds in my garden. Anyhoo it’s a smaller branch than yours and they didn’t have such a lovely display, but I found hard and soft neck garlic and the elephant garlic in there. A few varieties too. I got Early Purple Wight as I wanted a soft neck as well as the Caulk Wight I had brought online from the Garlic Farm. Grabbed some Jerome shallots to try as well, first time growing those for me. I am growing mor overwinter this year, cabbages, Chinese greens and Kale plus lettuces. I have a million baby snails eating through everything at the moment argh! Also Christmas potatoes , and Brussels sprouts coming along, although I have a bad white fly infestation on the Brussels, which I am hoping will die off soon as the weather gets colder. I seem to remember you had a natural spray for that was it garlic or chive spray? Anyway, I hope your feet feel better soon. Love watching your vids, have even got my lovely garden neighbour into growing her beans up arches for next year! Great tip that! Take care x
Thanks Dawn! How odd that your one had all the garlics! Agghh, the tiny snails are causing mayhem for me too right now. Every tray of decimated seedlings that i pick up has them attached to the bottom.... lol. Yeah, garlic and soap it meant to stop the whitefly but i've never had an enormous amount of success with it! Worth a try though because i've heard it work wonders for some people!
I had a really bad infestation of whitefly on my Brussels this year, I spent a couple of tedious hours spraying with soapy water and squishing the eggs and it seems to have paid off.
I like the seasonal lists Jessie. Yep, problem with garlic choice, I've gone for softneck from...Wilco! Plantar Fasciitis can be very painful. Among my many ailments I've had it on and off for years. The good news is it does die down the older you get. Go to a podiatrist, they will sort you out with made to measure insole supports, they'll help. Keep going! I have a feeling you will.👍🏼
Sorry Jess had to stop as making soap. I had the same problem in my new cold frame the tray I had just like your filled with rain water. I think next doors cat had landed on top and knocked square out of top luckily not broken so popped back in situ. Two dry days hopefully will help the seedlings but clouding over now. Sorry you can’t find the garlic you want hope some comes available soon. Yes I try to grow in winter brassicas some do really well others less so well tried the broad beans garlic and leeks Don’t have hot house or the like. Grow mainly in pots
Hi Jessie, love the video as usual. We only have a small allotment so not room for greenhouse or tunnel so can't over winter crops apart from garlic although we have spinach, kale and chard on at the moment. This winter we are concentrating on making raised beds. Look forward to next video
I put my PLT to bed over winter because it gets high winds. I still do improvements to shed etc. I am very busy in my workshop over winter. But having said all that, I am going to take a leaf out of your book, and have a go at winter planting broad beans. 🙏
Take care of yourself, I hope your health improves quickly! We don’t stop gardening over the winter here but it certainly slows down a lot. Brassicas, broad beans, peas (slowly growing over winter to eat in spring) and plenty of leafy greens, celery, herbs etc. And of course sowing from late winter for spring planting, so it’s very busy here now.
Hope your feet get better quickly. DT Brown have hardneck garlic for sale online. You probably already know this. Mentioned it just in case you didn't...
I am trying wintercrops for the first time just a bit cus I will be adding a lot more new beds over winter and no greenhouse here yet, but I think it is very much fun to grow over the winter because you value every single fresh leaf you can eat :) but bloody zone 5 here, jealous of mild english winters, anyway cheers :)) looking forward to next video already ;)
Jessie I'm aiming to have all my beds full over winter with brassica, parsnips, swede, leeks, broad beans, chards, spinach, onions, salads ect will be under fleece in the colder months and I'll have salads and brassica in the greenhouse and Polytunnel.
4 months late Jessie lol but I don't grow a lot Only Winter Onions , Garlic , I get my Garlic from The Garlic Farm on the Isle of Wight , Also I don't have an allotment but use Raised Beds at Home using the Square Foot Gardening Method , I still enjoy all your Blogs as I use a lot of tips to help me out x
shallots.... you can use some of this years crop to start again to crop next year... just use your best ones as you want to be breeding for size.... keep the mhealthy of course... it works for me in derby... much colder than your pot
First time commenting Jessie, absolutely love watching your channel. Sorry to see your in so much pain with your feet I can truly sympathise, I suffer too. Asda memory foam flip flops have been my saviour... ugly but Aaaah x
2nd year on my allotment, 2 out of eight beds will be covered over the winter and the others I am growing Garlic, onions, shallots, broccoli, parsnips, chard & cabbage at the mo. Can’t wait for your flower video and have a greenhouse I can use this winter.
Hope you are feeling better soon. I took a new allotment the end of August, (was overgrown so had to clean all the weeds) saw lettuce, spinach and pac choi -> all them eaten by slugs. Now (end of November I have only garlic and onion xx
Ebay have Sets right now. If you can't get Shallot sets then try planting some seed in March. The Zebrune is a large (banana) Shallot and grows great from seed and they store really well.
Great to see you finding more uses for your dehydrator, they are well worth the financial outlay. This year I started a big jar of mixed greens so cabbage kale, older blown sprouts, lettuce not used, chard and any old green thing I might otherwise give to the piggies or compost.....it gets dried, ground and so on a stupid wet, windy day I can throw together a broth of super foods or can enhance a stew or soup.
Jess sitting devastated with my broad beans. Sown autumn looked great yes never been so tall, yes they got wind blown but survived flowered and covered in beans about a month ago something started climbing and eating the bean pods then more rain & frost you name it we’ve had it went out yesterday been sick last three weeks, they were covered in brown leaves and stalks despite throwing a net over whatever had been eating was still doing so, they looked so unhealthy I cut them or most down. Left the second autum sown in hope but we must have a mouse out there never seen one. I’d hoped it was birds. Not going to sow in autumn again. Will look for short version
I really enjoy watching you and your mum working together in the garden. Maybe, put her more into your next video, just a suggestion. from Ottawa Canada.
It was with mixed feelings seeing the summer end as my garden was not that productive this year. You did inspire me to try new things though. Now will wait til 1st expected frost mid November to harvest Greek gigantees. With high hopes I Have planted last of seeds for fall, many brassicas, peas, carrots & lettuces; now working to keep them from rabbits, slugs & cabbage moths. EK in🇺🇸
It's been a while I don't grow in autumn-winter... I'm giving a try this year, much probably will be broad beans and peas, because I really love them😊. Thanks for the inspiration 🌱💚🥂
My nephew, brother and myself all have an allotment in the same site. We go there all through the year always lots to do repairing or changing things. Growing garlic, salads, kake, broadbeans, mustard seeds. I put some beetroot plants next to tomato plants in the greenhouse about 3 month ago thats an experiment see what happens there looking healthy up to now. Looking forward to the broadbeans harvest next year, we all think your broadbeans on toast recipe is the best.
Hi Jessie, Love your vids thanks for sharing as always very grateful. My Cuca melon is doing really well in my polly tunnel first time growing these so impressed ! I carry on growing inside and out I just can’t give it up I love my garden. I do hope your feet get better and you feel better soon. Thanks Adelle! Agh, i'm sorry to hear about the disk in your neck. Its so frustrating to be restricted in movement isn't it! Like you say though... can't let it stop us. :D
I will be continuing trying to grow things through winter. I have fava beans, another bean in as well. Peas, radishes, hard and soft neck garlic. Getting ready to plant onion sets, potatoes planted but not doing anything, beets, lettuce, kale, cabbage ( fighting cabbage worms and flies) asparagus resting for the winter, will be putting saffron crocus in as well. I just received my bulbs to sew for spring blooms. I have hoops over the beds with mesh that will be changed out to fleece in a few weeks.
Got loads Ruth! Ah... i'm so tempted to have another go with saffron! I grew it in pots aaaages ago and it worked really well but i had to move house and i left them behind... I'll try again though!
I always get my garlic and shallot bulbs from the organic grocery store. Much cheaper and works well for me. I grow in the winter but, then, of course, I live in CA and I think we've only had a freeze, hail, or snow on the average of once every 5 years and it usually melts as it hits the ground.
Hi Jess what an inspiration your vlogs are. We are trying to grow all year around this year (year3) we have the usual brassicas kallets pak choi sweet potato endives Chinese cabbage chicory broad beans fennel a few more things too in poly tunnel fingers crossed some will work out
We only got our allotment in late august, definitely planning to grow over winter but, being the novices that we are, we aren’t expecting much just hoping for the best! Thanks for the videos 🙌
Oooh, a new Allotment Tilly. Thats so exciting! I'm sure you'll be amazed but what you can grow. Any areas your not going to be using though - have a go with the green manure!
It gets very cold in Michigan USA so not much can survive. I did plant radishes for fun on October 1 to see if I get anything. 🤷🏻♀️we had a great growing season this year. Hope your feet feel better.❤️🩹

🌱🥦🥬🥕🥬
Always such a joy coming along with you both. Your plot is really coming together for fall/winter!
Thanks you! I'm sure its an illusion but i feel like we are quite on-top of things at the moment.... lol!
I'm dehydrating my shallots and onions and grinding them up for powder.
Hope your feeling better soon xxx
Thanks Samantha!
Keep going! I have a feeling you will.👍🏼
Hi Pat, hahah, good old Wilko!
I don't have Plantar Fasciitis luckily!
Making Soap! :D
The winter brassicas can be a bit hit-and-miss can't they? Some just seem to take off and get on with it and others... not so much!
Hi Jessie, love the video as usual. We only have a small allotment so not room for greenhouse or tunnel so can't over winter crops apart from garlic although we have spinach, kale and chard on at the moment. This winter we are concentrating on making raised beds. Look forward to next video
Thanks Rosemary! So much to grow even without covered areas isn't there?! :D
I put my PLT to bed over winter because it gets high winds. I still do improvements to shed etc. I am very busy in my workshop over winter. But having said all that, I am going to take a leaf out of your book, and have a go at winter planting broad beans. 🙏
Be well jess. God bless you both. John
Thanks Lucinda! Yeah, i have this idea that things start slowing down around now but they never do! :D
Because of you talking about green manure , this is my first year doing it. I'm using cereal rye grass.
You were certainly lucky Jessie I am in Bristol and I didn't get one Tomato this year despite buying 3 sets of plants but lost all of them to blight.
Not one Barry! :O Next year!
I planted the same garlic last year, it was very good. Haven't seen any garlic this year so far. Enjoy your vlog
Good to know its a good variety! And thanks Gladys :)
Hope your feet get better quickly. DT Brown have hardneck garlic for sale online. You probably already know this. Mentioned it just in case you didn't...
Thanks Gary, yeah, i think next year i'll do an order. I just like going to a physical shop!
Shallots. Seen in Wilko yesterday!
Oooh, i might nip back!
Hope you got them. We are growing all the way through winter at Spitalfields City Farm. Come over and hang out with us one day and see what we do 😉
In the Northwest US. It freezes solid so no growing till early spring. Inside I start plants earlier. Get well Jesse. I will look forward to Tuesdays.
Hahahha, yeah, the winter harvests a much appreciated aren't they! :D
Try Kings seeds for shallots and hard neck garlic. I save my best bulbs for next years crop. Have been doing it for 30 years. Showing my age now !
Jessie I'm aiming to have all my beds full over winter with brassica, parsnips, swede, leeks, broad beans, chards, spinach, onions, salads ect will be under fleece in the colder months and I'll have salads and brassica in the greenhouse and Polytunnel.
Perfect! Munching all winter on your plot! :D
This is my first year sowing and growing at this time of year, very much being inspired by yourself so fingers crossed.
You can overwinter your chillies indoors for a head start next year. They are perennial like most pepper plants.
This was such a good year for toms in the North East, I need a squires in my life! 😍 Xxx
Hahha, amazing how much of a difference a couple hundred miles can make! :D
@@JessieatPlot37 🤣 well when you put it like that xxx
3:30 my local Wilko has garlic, onion and shallots in right now. Fyi.
ah, i might nip back!
shallots.... you can use some of this years crop to start again to crop next year... just use your best ones as you want to be breeding for size.... keep the mhealthy of course... it works for me in derby... much colder than your pot
First time commenting Jessie, absolutely love watching your channel. Sorry to see your in so much pain with your feet I can truly sympathise, I suffer too. Asda memory foam flip flops have been my saviour... ugly but Aaaah x
Hi Ruth! hahaha, the glamour has to come second to comfort these days! I'll look out for the flipflops! :D
Yeap Casablanca garlic is a hardneck. I grow Carcassonne which is a hardneck too . Lovely video , as usual .
I did Carcasonne last year i think Sandrine, or it might have been the year before! All the years are blurring!
2nd year on my allotment, 2 out of eight beds will be covered over the winter and the others I am growing Garlic, onions, shallots, broccoli, parsnips, chard & cabbage at the mo. Can’t wait for your flower video and have a greenhouse I can use this winter.
Ah fab, you have loads growing Laura!
Just growing my elephant garlic over winter. Your mums getting really good at the walking backwards trick 😉😉😉
:D she's getting lots of practise.... :D
Zebrune is my favourite! Last year was the first year i haven't grown it and its was a mistake! i'll be getting them in in spring definitely!
The drawings are great on screen, in #78.
1st year growing over the winter. Will be binge watching your videos from last year.
Hahahah! :D
They are Lynn! I'm so happy i got one.
Love your vlogs .. excellent work Jessie! Love your smile and positively 😁
Oh no!!! :(
Hi its Tina dt brown has garlic and shallots on sale now love the vlog
Thanks Tina! I'll go have a nose.
As always i love your enthousiasm and spirit. Thank you for another fantastisch video.
:D Thanks Thomas!
I really enjoy watching you and your mum working together in the garden. Maybe, put her more into your next video, just a suggestion. from Ottawa Canada.
Hi Carol! She's in it about as much as she wants to be... lol
Cheers Jessie.
Those creative angles whilst clearing the tomatoes were, errm, very creative.
Thanks for another great entertaining Tuesday.
Hahaha, needs must Andrew!
I.O.W Garlic Farm on line for Garlic by post. and thanks for all your vlogs through lockdown. xx
Thanks Chris! I'll buy online next year i think definitely!
I'm really sad your only doing one video a week, but I understand. Feel better soon! Love you Jessie!
Thanks Andrea! I'll get back to two videos as soon as!
Your cat meowing sent my dog looking round the kitchen then asking to go outside to find Jack cat barking all the time 😂
Hahahah! :D
In winterbeds only some leeks, garlic and sjalots. Overwintering in kitchenplots the herbs. So no work there ....
Nice! :)
EK in🇺🇸
I grow indoors over the winter.
sensible!
It's been a while I don't grow in autumn-winter... I'm giving a try this year, much probably will be broad beans and peas, because I really love them😊.
Thanks for the inspiration 🌱💚🥂
:D thanks Jorge. Broadbeans and peas. love!
We had a black cat once with one eye, “Winky” 😁
My nephew, brother and myself all have an allotment in the same site. We go there all through the year always lots to do repairing or changing things. Growing garlic, salads, kake, broadbeans, mustard seeds. I put some beetroot plants next to tomato plants in the greenhouse about 3 month ago thats an experiment see what happens there looking healthy up to now. Looking forward to the broadbeans harvest next year, we all think your broadbeans on toast recipe is the best.
So agree about the broad beans on toast recipe - it is amazing.
How lovely to all have plots on the same site!
:D Glad you like the BB's on toast. :D
I sympathise I have a herniated disc in my neck but am determined to keep movin and growing love n light to you and yours Adelle xxx P.S Love to mum
Always looking forward to your updates Jess. Sorry when I';m making puns.
:D
I always get my garlic and shallot bulbs from the organic grocery store. Much cheaper and works well for me.
I grow in the winter but, then, of course, I live in CA and I think we've only had a freeze, hail, or snow on the average of once every 5 years and it usually melts as it hits the ground.
Hahah, it's mild here but not THAT mild! :D
Dobies seeds had still got shallots 2 weeks ago.
I'll check them out!
Hi Jess what an inspiration your vlogs are. We are trying to grow all year around this year (year3) we have the usual brassicas kallets pak choi sweet potato endives Chinese cabbage chicory broad beans fennel a few more things too in poly tunnel fingers crossed some will work out
Thank god the cat "is on" 😊
Hahahah!
Great video Jess hope you get better soon 👍
:D Thanks Drunk Garden!
:D Fingers crossed for the October Radishes! :D
This is my first year to grow in this late fall, winter season. I'm feeling hopeful.
Tried bolthardy in poly last winter.. the6 bolted immediately in spring...I carry on growing over winter..tere's lots to plant!!
Ah bugger, really? Haha, might re-think my plan! :D
