  • Baldy Mountain Resort is a hidden gem and is home to some of the best powder skiing in British Columbia. It’s somewhat of a secret and is tucked away near Oliver, a small town in Southern BC. At 1,726m Baldy has the highest base altitude of any ski resort in Canada and the proper summit (which is skiable with a small hike) towers over the Okanagan Valley at 2,310m. That’s even higher than 7th Heaven in Whistler Blackcomb. This means, you’ll be skiing cold, dry champagne powder most days out of the season. Even though the visibility was low, the snow was nuking and Baldy absolutely blew my expectations out of the water. The mixed terrain is an absolute blast and the glades are world class. Other than the snow, my favourite part was the amount of natural features packed into all of the runs and I can’t forget the immaculate vibes, all the staff and people I met were amazing. Also, lift lines don't exist at places like this. Ski on, ski off, all day long. Baldy is also building an awesome terrain park this season with leadership from transition industries and is offering night skiing. Baldy Mountain resort is super affordable and there is accommodation in the Baldy village or in the town of Oliver. Baldy is definitely one for the bucket list!
Huge thanks to the Baldy Mountain Resort team for hosting me, I'm already itching to come back.

@@riseandalpine Yo man, love the vids. There's another mountain called mt. Baldy located just 1 hour away from Los Angeles. If you're ever in town I highly recommend it. It's got a really similar vibe to this place. Real laid back, excellent tree skiing and if you time it just right after a good dump of snow, endless powder.

Nicd, this weekend was definitely the time to ski further east. Got super lucky and had some friends invite me to big white, which got 10cm of creamy powder for Saturday. Sunday i punished myself and drove to sun peaks, bagged the peak in a whiteout, and drove back to squamish but i did at least get a fresh groomer (saw the cats working) on the way out. Way better than skiing mush in a downpour back home

Man, as someone who normally shreds in the (often overcrowded) powder paradise that is Northern Utah's Wasatch Range, I really need to make it to BC. Love how many backwoods mountains you folks have and having grown up riding in the Upper Midwest (Wisconsin/UP of Michigan), kind of gives me similar backwoods vibes but on actual mountains.
Here's my BC bucketlist as a powder hound who loves both glades and bigger mountain stuff. Let me know if I'm off-base here. Obviously would never get to all these spots, unless I become independently wealthy/employed and can just travel freely:
1.) Red Mountain (esp. on a big pow day), for the local vibe and awesome terrain and trees.
2.) Revelstoke for the insane vertical + terrain. Kill the Banker looks awesome right under the lift.
3.) Kicking Horse for the otherworldly big-mountain terrain that'll make me contemplate death, lol.
4.) Whitewater for those insanely snowy glades and proximity to Nelson.
5.) Terrace/Smithers - for a bit more remote experience with awesome early-season snow.
6.) Big White - wanna ride in those sweet snow ghost forests.
7.) Fernie - looks like a legit destination resort.
8.) Mt. Washington + other local spot on Vancouver Island (seems like their time is limited with climate change making it too warm).
9.) Cypress + Grouse - just to ride above Vancouver and see the ocean/sound.
10.) Whistler - last on the list because it's owned by Vail and I absolutely loathe big crowds. Everything else looks spectacular though.
