Fulfilling a Lifelong Ski Fantasy

- Опубліковано 29 чер 2024
- I grew up skiing Manning Park Resort and I used to stare across the valley and dream about one day skiing down the monstrous peaks and faces of the Canadian Cascades. Today, Rob and I left Whistler Blackcomb to embark on an epic ski adventure in hopes of fulfilling my childhood fantasy.

I think you mastered a UA-cam vlog. And, I watch a lot of UA-cam videos, many different kinds. Rob’s guest appearance was perfect too.
Thanks Sam! I decided to keep this one super natural so I could capture the vibe of the day. I always enjoy shaking up the videos and editing style to keep things fresh.
I’m viewing on my phone as always. I can tell you from my end that I thought all the camera settings (different mm(s)) in this video were perfect. And, I also thought that some of the shots were taken from a DSLR (like Sony or something) because it was so good.
that ending clip was mad satisfying even for someone that didn't hike for 7 hours
Best tasting beer EVER
Frosty lookin straight out of a movie. Crazy dude.
Such a wild experience!
Holy Jesus. Frosty balls of steel ! You rock, mates.
😂😂😂😂😂😂
Rob's balls were frosting. Mine were sweating!
@@riseandalpine 🤣😁🥶🥶
I really love that you didn't edit out the avalanche safety protocols you guys were doing.
Oooo! and that clip from Rob's perspective of you just zooming down that slope... dang sexy lookin!
Awesome! Those beers at the end must have tasted so sweet!🤙
Never did a beer taste so good
Unbelievable, you guys are in crazy shape, you guys never even look gassed in the video👍🎿🏔
Running off pure raw Liquid Courage!
I go up to silver star every year from Seattle and holy moly I love home cafe I am so happy you guys went there too that place is amazing
HOME is the GOAT of restaurants! That pie :)
holy shit! Best video of yours yet, honestly amazing, great work man I'm so damn jealous hahah!!
Thank you so much - one of my favourite adventures ever! Will remember this one forever.
maybe your best video yet. I was smiling all the way. Thanks for taking us along!
Honestly one of my favourites too. My favourite part was Rob and I singing while eating pie... So ridiculous hahahaah
This looks like a dream. You've been killing it lately with each video.
It was a dream. Thanks so much!
The greatest adventures are the ones that take us on an exciting journey within ourselves !
Beautifully said!
Rise and Alpine, that sir was an absolute insane vid, i was just there in October and wondered what it would be like with snow covering it, parked almost in the exact spot too lol!! You just keep getting better! Thankyou for puting the effort you do into your videos, 🍻to you both!! Awesome
Thanks Mark! I'm eager to check it out in the summer now too :). So funny we parked in the same place. Cheers!
Are you up at Whistler early next week?
Awesome video, dude. Such a good experience as a viewer. So many ski and snowboard videos out there, but few capture the actual experience like this did. Bravo.
So stoked that the emotion translated well through the video!
Wow you realy do a fantastic job recording your adventures!
Thanks Patrick. It adds an extra layer of challenge but it's a blast to roll it back and share the experiences with others
Making it happen BC style. Worst winter in decades and the team effort scores a huge W.
*cough 2015 cough*
I was getting a divorce that winter. Must have missed the low tide. 😂
^funniest comment ever 😂😂😂
Cold weather , snow , No stiffly, just shrinkage 😂
A whole lot of shrinkage hahaha
Oh to be young again! You fellows are crazy and I love it ❤❤! Thanks for sharing.
Thanks for coming along!
Epic dudes! Skiing vicariously through you as my knees can't take it anymore. Thank you.
Thanks for coming along :)
Wow when i clicked on this video I didnt think my attention span was gonna make it all the way but damn those 25 minutes went like a breeze. Absolutly sick video bro! Keep up the good work!
Thanks for watching each and every minute!! Glad it was that entertaining :)
That’s a beaut ! So different from a sweltering August hike.😂 Good on you guys for crushing it ! ❄️🤘
I love summer hiking, but something about the snow just makes landscapes look so beautiful
As a swiss, this video is really cute to watch😅getting so excited over a 2400m elevation🥺
Lol :)
Nothing like a classic James and Rob touring vid. A real feel good ski vlog 🙌
Glad we could bring you along!
What an amazing video. I think that's one of your best one, capturing the beauty of British Columbia. Way to go James and Rob. Love the ending.......
Never had a better tasting beer in my life!
The best you ever filmed!!! What an epic adventure and great communication you never hear on the hike up. Just a skiers dream summit and line.
Thanks Dave! One of my favourite videos ever too. Still buzzing about the day!
I was outside smoking a bowl and watched this on my phone.....I then went inside and watched it on my 100" screen. I wish i could subscribe twice, haha. I shared this video because this was absolutely epic. Congrats to both of you.
Thanks brother!
Yeeeww!!!!!
Get ready for the NW flow to return.
Here we go boys!!!
Been with you since you had 500 subscribers, love to see the channel growing so much. 100k soon!!
Wow - so legend you've been here since 500 subs. Great to have you along. I wish I could see all the people who've been tagging along since the start. Really appreciate you brother!
Damn walking that ridge was terrifying on video haha
The first part was a little dicey for sure! Lucky the snow was low enough that I could probe down and find ground.
Your soooo funny 😂😂😂😂love your hair style😂😂😂😂
So nice to hear 'my hair' and 'style' in the same sentence :)
Just incredible!! By the time the Vlog ended, my gigantic grin practically cracked my face---as the song goes....🎼🎵."Every hike you take, every turn you make.............I'll be watching you!🎵🎶 Lynn In NYC ("Ski Mt. Cement")
Thanks :). Glad this one brought a smile to your face. I personally watched the singing while eating pie scene about 20 times. Too ridiculous hahaha.
Oh, no---I can't find that scene in here----I've looked for half an hour now. Don't want to miss THAT spectacle!! Help! 😱@@riseandalpine
Just awesome!
What a Kodak moment! 📸📸📸📸📸
100%
I felt like I watched a movie. That was Epic dude!
Thanks dude!
solid stuff fellas!!
Extraordinary experience .Bravo!!
Thanks Andrea!
coming home from work to a new video, awesome!
Glad you liked it!
Easily one of your best videos and what a sick line
I love this one too. Going to remember this day forever!
@@riseandalpineare you heading back to lake Louise this season? I’m there for the season and it’s such a sick mountain
Epic dude, Congrats on achieving a dream!!
Thanks Andy!
I love to see it!
Thanks for a great video.
Thanks for coming along on the journey!
absolute banger incoming
ayyeeee
Well done Boy’s! Looks fantastic!!
Thanks Paul!
That was epic. Well done!
Thanks Ben!
You should really get some touring skis. Let’s get on fissile soon!
But have you seen my quads????
The PT's do get a bit exhausting on the backpack... Time for an upgrade!
Very down for Fissile. Maybe bang out psycho as well?
this is epicccc
Awesome skiing guys. Magic place.😊
Frosty is pure magic!
Maaaaannn do I wish we were able to come on this with you guys. Fucking rad effort boys!!
Of course you and Rob tried to bootpack Frosty summit with your skis on your shoulders like it was Spanky's Ladder 🤣🤣
Wish you were there with us too brother! Lot's of lines for us to explore up there another day. Not going to make the shoulder pack mistake again LOL. Putting skis on your back half way up a 40 degree slope is kind of terrifying hahahaa
Sooooo good. Everything about this was excellent; could feel your inspiration. Content, long edits, story telling - all great. Impressive adventure - sweaty palms every time there was exposure. Contrats James and Rob - such good adventure partners.
Thanks so much! So glad you enjoyed the pacing and natural feel of this edit. One of my favourite adventures to date. Glad you could come along.
the boot pack alone is teriffyling fun
You bet it was!
It was like I was there! Well done youngsters! Good one.
Thanks for coming along Kris!
Team no alcohol 🤙🏼
Epic adventure bois!!!
Thanks Mackie!
and just in time for whistler to start spewing snow for the next week so you can have a good time there too lol
Can't wait for the snow spew!
UNBELIEVABLE
Way to go boys !
Cheers!
Beast!
For an old guy quick with a glib comment or post, I'm at a loss for words for how awesome this is. My fave video of yours ever Sir James .. So glad the hill held, perfect judgement to stay left .. your tracks will be there for weeks. Will watch many times!!
Thanks Craig! I loved this day too. I've even watched back the video twice myself. The perfect mix of fun, adrenaline and good decisions.
Like your ski resort adventures, but this one was the BEST!!
So glad you enjoyed it! One of my faves ever as well.
You make my dream men! The sad part is, i live in the west side of the Québec son no montain.
Gotta move out here brother!
@@riseandalpine after my trip to sunshine and lake louise last month i wish lol
What a vid bud that ending shot was supreme nice work
Perfect end to a perfect day!
epic. true mountaineering feat. congrats.
Thanks!
Yeah man!!! Sweeet!
If I showed this to my dad I guarantee his biggest takeaway would be the importance of base layers.
hahahhaa - I thought you were going to say the end of day beers waiting at the truck
Incredible production quality! You keep outdoing yourself! Living the dream! 👍
Thanks Flap! Easy to produce an awesome video with such a gorgeous backdrop (I'm talking about Rob)
😂
But let’s not forget, Rob is more than just a pretty face. He’s a great ski partner for a gonzo skier like you! 🤙
effin awesome
beauty day boys!
Thanks Kenny!
So sick man! Absolutely unreal. I'm moving to Calgary from the UK at the end of this year, hopefully see you on the mountain some time! 🤙
Sick! Calgary rocks man. So much awesome access to a plethora of hills just a few hours drive away. I'm sure we'll run into eachother at some point.
Damn, bro! that's pretty inspiring, I'm jealous! 👊
It was an unbelievable day! Thanks for watching.
About the best video I have ever seen, had everything - the effort, the reward and the beauty, and I assume some ass burn from the effort 👌👌😎😎
Can't forget the ASS BURN!
awesome dud. You guys Rock :)
Thanks!
Wow, thanks for sharing those awesome views without me having to break a sweat! Several areas in the Alps go over 3200metres, and that’s lifts up to that height. One or two around 3400 to the top lift. If you’re not feeling great you can feel a little light headed. Thanks again for another great video👍🇬🇧
wow! I've never been above 3000m on a mountain!
Banger video man
Thanks Donny!
Great Vid. No one has said yet, but,, 200 percent Beer Over Canadian club.
Beer tastes best after a big day
Impressive mission. The North Cascades are a special set of mountains. Only done lines off of US Hwy 20 and every one of them has been amazing.
Would love to check out some of the US Cascade lines. Would ya be interested in touring Rob and I around at some point? I'll bring the sauce!
This was an awesome video
Thanks Andrew!
Wow. this is starting to become my life long dream 😂
You can totally do this!
Legendary
Still buzzing!
That was minty fresh
The mintiest of mint
I haven't heard the "beers on the wall" song in yeeeears. This channel.....
Clearly we ran out of things to talk about
Looks dope, I definitely wanna ski frosty as well (tho I have grand hopes of the true summit).
Looks like we're finally getting some good weather next week. You're welcome, because it only happened cause I'm leaving town for a bit 🤣🙃
Thanks for leaving LOL - True summit would be a double bushwack... Might make for crap skiing though especially if you couldn't navigate the cornices in big snow years!
Glad you guys didnt go for the creek ski out option. Made that mistake a few years ago
Is it even remotely doable in a big snow year? The lines all the way down to the creek look pretty awesome.
@@riseandalpine we sort of had an epic. It's a long story
👍love your content.
Thanks brother!
best channel
Thanks Richard :)
Stoked headed to Manning on the weekend going to hit Baldy and Apex as well really enjoying your videos lately.
Unreal! That sounds like a sick trip. Enjoy
Thanks man this season is probably a busy for the island but if we get good snow next year you gotta do a mount Cain Mount Washington trip just go mid week for Washington and wait till boomerang is open
My other account lol
So beautiful
The cascades are incredible
@@riseandalpine yup
Once upon a time you didn't need a reservation for a National park
This isn't a national park!
Manning Provincial Park.
What an awesome mission! But SKI STRAPS, man, one is not enough, I always gotta bring a ton of ski straps into the backcountry! I usually bring at least five in case a binding breaks, skin clips break, etc.
Good tip - i had three with me - down to two now!
HOW did you know where you were? Weren't you worried about an avalanche? Dang that's epic.
We have avalanche training and watch forecasts and snowpack very closely. Maps and GPS apps help us determine where we are going!
hell Oh
YASS Rob 4:37
You should see him on the Buffalo Bills dance floor. ICONIC.
I-35 with the top down out to the Whack!
I-35 with the top down straight to the Chilliwack Save On Foods!
Watched this one on the big screen. Congratulations on that line. Awesome view, video. 🔥⛷️🎥
Thanks Gavin!
🤘🤘🤘
🤘
You should ski at cypress next time you are close to Vancouver BC canada
I live in Vancouver and really wanted to ski all the local mountains this year but they have no snow
Hiking fast ripping ass 😂😂😂👍
Doctors hate him for this one strategy
Not in the video very sad. I said hi to you on the mountain w my ski group.
Hey Billy - We didn't see another skier all day.. Not even a living, breathing animal. Maybe you're thinking about another day, this was Manning Park.
6:17 It’s never good to be ripping ass from the rear end! 😂😂😂
😂😂😂
Now that's a bro trip
I could have ended the trip after eating pie and singing Katy Perry
totally savage...time to buy a proper climbing axe
Pole worked pretty darn good, but probably should get an axe once I can afford. I never knew climbing gear was so expensive!
you need a alpine axe...under 100$ it's real hard to self arrest with a ski pole.. I have alpine climbing and technical ice experience...peace and love @@riseandalpine
Just got back from 4 days at Whistler. What was the name of that software you were using to check out routes?
That one was OnX. It's really good for USA and just starting to get better in Canada. I also use FatMap as well.
@riseandalpine Thanks, I installed them both. I was in Whistler last week from Monday to Thursday, and it was pretty good. Next trip there is March 11 to 14. Only problem was having December legs in February.
What do you mean it looks like Alaska ?
The big Frosty looked like a big Alaskan mountain... I guess I could have said it looks like BC LOL. We have big mountains
