Saw them on tour supporting this album and got my copy signed by the band after the show. One of the best shows I've ever been to bar none. Band is unbelievable live and extremely tight. That was many years ago now but I still remember how they crushed it
anyway 2:02 is one of the absolute gnarliest vocals in any metal song ever period.

The intro verse has a hip hop vibe/feeling to it. The vocalist is like literally flowing like a rapper it sounds good though how the band is still able to keep it metal enough to where it doesn’t sound like nu metal garbage. They’re definitely professional veterans that are good at their craft.

+Arnold Moore Listen to the intro of both for comparison, you'll see there isn't much diffrerence. But I am glad that you enjoyed Mithras as they're an underrated band! You're welcome!

@@KnightBirdo They are pretty similar but I doubt they intentionally copied it, that's a super generic death metal riff. The chugs are so common now that probably every single pattern of 16ths in 4/4 has been done by several bands in released songs, squeals are a common way to add contrast and beat two is a common spot to place an accent due to how ubiquitous backbeats are in modern syncopation and the Mithras riff is twice as long with a lot more variation.
You could probably find hundreds of riffs that sound just like these, that doesn't mean they're bad but that's the danger of writing with just chugs, squeals and chromatic movement instead of chord progressions and in common meters. Most of it has been done before.
