The metaphors sounds nice and fuzzy, however the battalion wins for me: it seems a much more versatile preamp. By the way, could you talk about the ground noise and quality of the sound through DI output please? It would be interesting to take these into consideration, as we are testing preamps. Thanks for the shootouts, I am enjoying this!!!
My battalion had a nasty buzz/crackle out the DI output. Looking online a few others have had this issue too. Maybe one reason it wasnt tested in this video?? Who knows. I've just returned mine and was think of the metaphors though not sure.
Battalion. Not just because I have it but because its tweakability has more extended range, especially the drive channel controls (compared to many other similar pedals in this tournament as well). Its pre/post/dry eq switch and additional tone control for drive are awesome features for sound sculpting
I don't think versatility should be THE deciding factor in this shootout. the most versitile pedal would win and it's pretty obvious which pedal is the most versatile without even doing this shootout.
@@BassRacerx the "core sound" is, ofc, the most important thing but tweakability...well it does what it says it does, that is it enables you not to be anchored to those particular settings, especially if you swap guitars, amps, cabs and play in various venues while using the same pedalboard. Cheers
@@BassRacerx that's fine...however, I'd rather buy Battalion than Battalion Nano, and DG B7K Ultra than B3K, few additional EQ knobs and switches can't do bad thing, except for the price
To me the Battalion sounds like a basic distortion knob you would find on any bass amp. The Metaphors brings something unique to me with that almost industrial, mega high mega low sound while still retaining the clarity of the bass, and almost making it synth like. Occupying the extremities of the frequency spectrum while leaving the room for other elements like drums vox and gtr to sit in the middle.
Never tried the Metaphors, but it seems really good for low gain low distortion sounds. I’ve been running my Battalion for almost a year now, and I really like the ability to have a distortion switch and a switch specifically for eq. My favorite use is boosting the bass and low mids on eq bypass when playing in higher registers to keep the body of the low frequencies.
Gotta say Battalion. They sound comparable when they're clean (maybe even the same?) But the Battalion has an expanded Distortion section that offers another dimension of tone shaping.
Metaphors is simple but has two issues: every sound is parallel. It is difficult to match the overall volume when you activate the distortion. If you XLR and jack socket out simultaneously the XLR is no (!) longer symmetric
Unpredictably, i turned on an answer from my own : EQ before OD is cool "not only by me" ! ^^ By the way, i think Metaphors is cool if i have another preamp otherwise, prefer the Battalion !
The compression on the Metaphors is much better for clean tone. The Comp on the Battalion seems designed mostly to make the distortion sing. I have the Battalion, and like it -- but in my board I'm mainly using it as an eq pedal since I like my Soul Food and Hot Tubes distortion options better. This video makes me want to play with a Metaphors pedal for awhile and then decide. I'm not going to vote either way, they both do great things.
Aaahhhhh EXH THATS WHAT I'M TALKING ABOUT!! Absolutley love them soo much, the battalion has been the best one on this series so far! The metaphors is good... but the battalion can do pretty much anything in my eyes!!
This is the harder so far. I vote Battalion with a lot of "But". I've tested Battalion and I didn't buy it cause of the distortion channel. I liked the eq. But, I don't use compression, I hated the noise gate (it was really bad made), and the distortion was ok for modern stuff (it reminds me the darkglass feel but less low end). For my taste the distortion can only work some how with the bass knob cranked and still I prefer other overdrives / fuzzes (I'm not a distortion fun on bass). I had never used the Metaphor. The distortion channel of the Metaphor sounds a little bit nicer for my taste but still not great. The fact that there is no mids knob and no post-pre-dry eq is a big NO! So the Battalion is the winner between those two just for Di, preamp use and tweakable eq with no drive and noise gate use for my taste. But there is no competition with the other famous preamps out there (Tech21, Darkglass, Ampeg).
I like the distortion tone of the Metaphors, but I prefer the Battalion. It's much more versatile and adjustable. By the way, Nick makes some of the best bass faces ever!
I wanted the battalion to win because of the more controls. But it is to muddy. The bass disappears in it’s one sound. Would not cut through the mix. So winner: Metaphors
If EHX get rid of this pointless and flawed noise gate section on the Battalion and put in a cab sim of some sort instead... I would totally replace my beloved Nano Battalion with such an unit
I don’t know I kept going...oh the Metaphors has it on this sound, then you switch to the Battallon, and I’d go ...oh maybe not. So to sum up...YOU GUYS ARE FUCKING AWESOME!!!
After this video EHX should trink about stopping the production of the methaphors. It depends also on how much they are selling of this brick. Both pedals doesn't kick me.
I has a Metaphors and I use like compressor... well... I'm in hate for this a long time!!! This pedal break your sound... it's not a choice if you have one. Don't use this pedal for nothing. My opinion
Battalion for sure.
Might be a bit controversial, but I prefer the sound of the distortion on the Metaphors. Has a more vintage fuzzy feel.
Nah, I agree
Same
Same
Personally I like the Metaphors. Simple, clean, and sounds a little tighter on the fuzz side
Came for the pedals, stayed for the facial expressions at 1:08 and on
I would like to see a video of VS between Behringer Bdi21 and Dr J Sparrow
Just from this video My vote is metaphors!
It's gonna be the Battalion for me! The distortion sounds more like a fuzz to me on the other one with less "tweakability".
The metaphors sounds nice and fuzzy, however the battalion wins for me: it seems a much more versatile preamp.

Battalion , has an edgy character which cuts through in a band mix
I bought the Battalion since I saw the video that you guys made. And I will chose it again.

@@TomMarello swiss army knife pedals are really cool but that's not necessarily what I look for.
@@BassRacerx that's fine...however, I'd rather buy Battalion than Battalion Nano, and DG B7K Ultra than B3K, few additional EQ knobs and switches can't do bad thing, except for the price
EHX Metaphors. Because I like this sound of the distortion, more than Battalion distortion.
I'll go with the battalion 👌
To me the Battalion sounds like a basic distortion knob you would find on any bass amp. Oh man !!! The Battalion for sure.. it definitely has an edge over over the Metaphors IMO
Battalion for modern, Metaphors for vintage. Metaphors' EQ section even looks like it's channelling the old 2-band OR stuff.
Battalion : there are more low end with this pedal. As always, both are great!
I own the Battalion and it's been on my board since it's release. It's the clear winner between the two in my opinion.
The metaphor has a richer sound for finger picking and snapping slap and pops Bass playing well done I like

I’ve had people hate in the epiphone eb, I kinda dig the sound
That Grabber sounded incredible. Fuck I want one so bad.
Yes... Yes... Giving slap some love in this vid. Thanks dude!

Battalion all day. Bought mine because of Will's review. Bought a lot of pedals because of Will. Dammit Will I'm going bankrupt.
That beginning riff....... Sounds familiar. Trying to wrap my head around it.....

Battalion for me on this one
Unpredictably, i turned on an answer from my own : EQ before OD is cool "not only by me" ! ^^ By the way, i think Metaphors is cool if i have another preamp otherwise, prefer the Battalion !
Not even close. Metaphors sounds amazing.
The Battalion sounds richer; it's warmer and the tone is more dynamic.
Metaphors for me!
The compression on the Metaphors is much better for clean tone. The Comp on the Battalion seems designed mostly to make the distortion sing. The Metaphors sounds a lot better than I thought. Seems like the reviews back then were BS. I didnt like the Batallion
Metaphors
I prefer the Metaphors on lower gain settings, but the Battalion as an all round winner
Hey guys: Batallion vs MXR M80 ?? What do you like more?
That's a tough one. I'd go for Battallion. Simply for more options available to sculpt the tone. On low gain however Matephors sounded better...
Awesome demo. 😎🤘🏻🎸between these pedals, I like the battalion the most.
Aaahhhhh EXH THATS WHAT I'M TALKING ABOUT!! Absolutley love them soo much, the battalion has been the best one on this series so far! The metaphors is good... but the battalion can do pretty much anything in my eyes!!
the intro reminded me of super silver haze by adam.
I say the metaphors with a hofner violin would give a killer McCartney tone
Battalion hands down
Battalion in all!
It seems to me that the Battalion Nano has a way better OD sound than the regular one does.
It was because of Will's review I got the Battalion. Great box!

No vote. The only thing that rocked on this matchup. Was the Bass Channel Crew.
I like BATTLION !
I prefer Battalion, but theres nothing wrong with the Metaphors.
Battalion!
Battalion!🤟
Just got a metaphors for $85 on reverb 😁
I like the distortion tone of the Metaphors, but I prefer the Battalion. It's much more versatile and adjustable. By the way, Nick makes some of the best bass faces ever!
Battalion win💪
Metaphors is smoother, battalion sounds dirtier, battalion wins it for me
The battalion
I wanted the battalion to win because of the more controls. But it is to muddy. The bass disappears in it’s one sound. Would not cut through the mix. So winner: Metaphors
Baatalion!!
++1 battalion
Batallion 🤘
batallion all dayyyyyyyy
Prefer metaphor sound, feel it’s more usable. Thanks to this literally just pulled the trigger… £45 used
Battalion
Personalmente prefiero el metaphors es un sonido mas completo
Os dois são muito bons gostei
Iprefer the Battalion
metaphors is soy fuzzy, in my opinion battalion is quite better, at least more versatile
Battalion.
It was because of Will's review I got the Battalion. Great box :)
Metaphor
Battalion. Mas versatil
The Metaphors tone is too dark for me. The Battalion seems livelier and more "open."

Loosely inspired by...
battalion +1
If EHX get rid of this pointless and flawed noise gate section on the Battalion and put in a cab sim of some sort instead... I would totally replace my beloved Nano Battalion with such an unit
battalion
🔥🔥
Dont like either but if i had too...Meta.
NOt a fan of the cliiping from the netaphor, Battalion deff sounds better and will probably work better in a mix.
Battalion is better
I hate both.
I agree....they both sound like damnit
I would have to say Metaphors more bottom compared to Battalion
Batallion ezpz
Battalion better
I don’t know I kept going...oh the Metaphors has it on this sound, then you switch to the Battallon, and I’d go ...oh maybe not. So to sum up...YOU GUYS ARE FUCKING AWESOME!!!
