Lyft has been “quadruple dipping” for over 5 years now. A fellow r/s driver was renting a car 5 years ago. He couldn’t get ahead of his bills. He found himself getting evicted. I let him move in with me. I sat down with him to go over his earnings statements and a budget. 5 years ago they only paid him .43/mile and .09 per minute. The rate card for non renters was .60/.13. He was rarely given any bonuses or incentives to augment his weekly earnings. He fell behind in paying me.
I say “quadruple dipping” b/c they are making money on the rental fee, paying less per trip, charging for the service fee and taking out the booking fee. They lost my respect 5 years ago!

Uber and Hertz did this to me when I rented a Tesla. No matter how many trips I did or hours I worked, I could not break the $1500 per week barrier. I would get lower paying trips or none at all, even during a surge. All of this is scripted in their algorithms.
Went back to driving my own vehicle and immediately started breaking the $1500 barrier, even though I wasn’t getting the EV offset per trip.

Yes, they created a company that allows discrimination on so many levels, and then won't accept responsibility for breaking discrimination laws, because they use inept law attorneys to blame it on an artificially intelligent entity, that they created to abuse humans. Humans have to be smarter than the algorithm or just get out of that worker type matrix.
When drivers initially sign up on Uber, Uber specifically asked certain questions to certain drivers. The answers supplied by those certain drivers determined what "class" of drivers Uber would begin their behavioral manipulation of those certain drivers FOR UBER'S PROFIT. Read Uberland by Alex Rosenblat. She already exposed everything and the book was published in 2018! I think she is the head of Uber's Marketing Policies now at Uber HQ. Or maybe she's the HR Exec Director now. I forget now. But nothing much has changed since her book was published. It's 2024 now! 😮

I was stupid and took a rider from National City (San Diego CA) to Santa Clarita (Los Angeles CA).Lyft charged me and the rider $164.67 for "est. commercial auto insurance & other expenses". I'm driving a FlexDrive vehicle (2024 Nissan Altima (ICE)) and Lyft kept me in Los Angeles until my personal miles ran out. I ended up accruing $48 in additional personal miles. They paid me $112.37. I will never again be so gullible to accept a long distance ride for Lyft. My experience felt like rape. Never again.

I had a pleasant experience with my local Hertz, even after being victim to a hit and run with no LLDW. Love driving them Polestars too! I also got rides more than $4. There’s a lot of BS out there about ED. But I had to quit ED because it forces you to work full time and play bonuses, preferably in peak hours. At night, I had to work 14 hours to make $200, 2 hours of that spent charging vehicle. In my new car, only 3 weeks old, I had 6 people puke in or on it already and one person piss in it lol. These 2 companies suck our blood on daily basis but they know their judgement day is coming as they are under pressure to make their cars as EV and drivers are not changing to EVs as the current pay isn't worth it.... So they came up with this devilish idea of recruiting a new breed of drivers who will rent EV from day 1, work based on the new deducted fare (thinking that it is a normal fare), work 12 hours daily with zero emission, then once they have enough of these EV drivers, I'm sure they will have the courage that time to change the standards and rules and put anyone not driving EV out of their platform. In short, this is a slow but steady replacement plan for us, the current drivers with gas cars who are upset with the decreasing pay

This is called indentured servitude. Mostly former slaves in America worked land but had to give up a major portion of crops or sales proceeds to the landowner or lender. Then the servant would get what's leftover.
Sometimes I shudder at the thought that we are driving our personal cars taking on all the risks or paying ridiculous rental charges where both the car rental company and rideshare company are scamming the driver. Imagine having no tangible property and making millions off others' labor and property. This is not a business model that will sustain itself long-term.

Right. As soon as drivers start acting like REAL INDEPENDENT CONTRACTORS and walk right thru those bogus independent contractor contracts, like Uber walked thru all the states' employment laws already on the books, nothing will change. Drivers have to be the ones to wake Uber the "f" up. Drivers and Riders are the taxpayers, the voters, the majority of the middle class that keeps this country moving. If the apps crash, how are people going to keep moving when they need to keep moving? These apps don't care about driver or rider, so both driver and rider need to care about each other. 🙏🇺🇸🙏🌎

This was the sharecropping system, not indentured servitude.

    • @SisterTiffany
      @SisterTiffany Місяць тому

@@Erica-ls7bp It's more indentured servitude in that the individual is forced to work essentially for free until a loan or debt is paid within a certain time period. It could be compared to sharecropping in that gig workers are forced to produce a large quantity for a small portion or proceeds. The way sharecropping is different is that I think the rideshare business forces people to leave because the rental model vs. realized income is not sustainable. And rideshare drivers can quit quicker and get another a traditional part or full-time job.

I do pay for extra miles up front and the added insurance, so the basic car is $300. I'm notified in the app that Express drivers make 17% less than other drivers. It takes about 20 hours to break even. I've only been driving for two weeks and also looking for a better solution. I live 25 miles from a cluster of seven cities. My car broke down right after I moved and out here and my other option is to work from home. I'd go insane. I've been approved to drive Uber rentals, but I suspect it's more of the same. Sometimes you learn as you burn. I appreciate the clarification. It helps me plan my week and I may spend extra time on study today.

Full insurance on my vehicle, full coverage, underinsured, uninsured, and ride share coverage through statefarm 250 a month. And you won't have to pay for any repairs, oil changes, coolant flush and / or other maintenance, and tires.
    Yeah, 1400$ a month isn't horrible.

Want to freak UBER/LYFT out? Send the same info to the RIDERS that's available to the DRIVERS.
That would include what the RIDER paid and what the DRIVER was paid and what UBER/LYFT paid themselves in line item detail.

So the lesson to be learned here is, have one nice car, and then have a backup older car in case your car breaks down or gets wrecked.
I've got to say, at least this guy actually drives and puts in the time. The guy last week got a rental and didn't use it and wondered why he was going broke.
As far as lyft cutting pay when you get a rental, this seems like they're doing this so you never get out of it and they keep making more profits. I bet if he turned on the pax app when he wasn't getting rides that his car won't show up on the map. Same thing happened to Jeff Watts when he had a $20 surge. They turned him off so he wouldn't get a ride.

I rented an EV through Flexdrive for 3 weeks in January. They told me in L.A. renters get .10 cents less per mile, but that it doesn't matter because it all evens out with the Prop 22 payments. I didn't rent long enough to verify that claim. I didn't really see much of a difference with the amount I was getting per ride (a little over $1 per mile on both personal and rental), but I did notice I got a lot less rides on the rental. I hope Sergio finds a lawyer willing to fight and gets Lyft renters another big payday like he did with Prop 22 mileage.

Not news… they’ve been doing this for over a year… was renting while my car was in the shop… seemed not to be making as much… last straw was took a trip to Newark airport from Philly suburbs on a Sunday night… maxed out my daily driving hours and weekly personal miles on the way there… they charged me more for the excess personal miles to get home than they paid me for the same length trip taking the passenger there.

Wow this is eye opening. I bought my Taurus because i felt it would acknowledged as a comfort/luxury ride. I have the same car he has and same year. Wow, i knew something was wrong with that picture. But i didnt figure i was actually right until now. The Taurus is definitely a luxury ride, alot of people get in and dont expect the ride to be so nice. They expect mediocre and its not true. But i live in a city that houses alot of idiots so there is a large variety of drivers here but who knows.

I feel John's pain and obviously Lyft should be more transparent about this, but it also shouldn't come as a giant shock that it's more expensive to insure a rental car than a privately owned vehicle and Hertz probably insists on higher coverage limits than what Lyft provides on non-rentals.

Well thank you Lyft if this is going to be the way you treat five star drivers who give more than 100 rides per week.. every week..giving out your 120 ride; ride challenges in a 3-day period... Always on the weekend. I'm a single dad I miss so much time with my kids because I have to take those challenges and try to complete them just to try to make a few extra bucks. Challenges I usually can't complete you get the extra rides out of me for no extra cost to you, and you cut 25% off the top for work I'm doing for you..WOW!!!! And if this is illegal you're response will probably be oh well we'll just get rid of the rental plan... ruin thousands of lives in the process... You're not giving me a great feeling on my hopes for driving to a better future,or job security.. I kill myself for you. This hurts more than you'll ever know... But it's on me always read the fine print right ..smfh

Great if u need a car full-time. But if rain. If slow . You're making 300 a week. Not counting expenses... Pure hell unless u drive yourself to death it almost made me homeless in winter. 350 week after bonuses. Plus 65 week insurance. Plus 45 week for charging plan. First 500 is untouchable every week on Mondays. If u make too much in a week you will get throttled. They don't want you to exit the program and buy a car. The lower rate is the only bullshit of the program cause it takes forever pay the first 500 every Monday at 5 am. Do not do Lyft flex if u can't do 40 plus hrs a week. 3 days for rental. 4 days for profit.. only good thing is rental car. That's it at least let us drive Uber to survive.. pyramid scam between Lyft and Hertz and other players. I need a car

And of course when u rent the car you're not taking on the depreciation and maintenance costs on the car that are calculated into the cents per mile expense estimate. So yea they gonna reduce pay per mile cuz part of it goes to car owner to cover their portion of marginal expenses.
Rideshare let's u leverage your labor and your capital (ur car). But when u rent u earning for your labor and hertz gets the cut from capital
