Why not invite the CA attorney general and ask him why he doesn’t prosecute?
This comment needs more likes.
Excellent!
Uber and Lyft paid off California politicians and our legal system accordingly 😂
Because the platforms have the $$ and own the politicians.
We tried
When the interview first started out I looked at the hour length and gave out a big sigh, but as the show moved forward I became more and more intrigued. I could have listened to this guest for an additional hour or two.
The same here, very interesting interview. discussing trends and principles as opposed to discussing people. Seems like a good author , I will check some of his books. I like science fiction ..
Thanks
I drove Uber and Lyft, by the time you pay for gas, wear and tear, oil changes, breaks, insurance, taxes…you average way less than 10 dollars per hour… one repair can wipe out your entire month 😮
Wear out your vehicle, put a lot of miles on it and not realize you are really not getting ahead.
Decline Decline Decline. If they don't want to pay
Totally agree that's how you get a good trip
This is the best decision we should be. Keep doing that decline until they are pay they are stealing our money
I can't believe the amount of TRASH rides other drivers take!
Going to get a better job opportunity and just leave these rideshares open, but pass on everything in hopes of raising the money for those who choose to stay.
They cheat you but you cant cheat them. Upfront Algorithm and all the tactics implemented in it became like batling with the devil to make a living. Every time the App is updated it is something lessens, taken away or punishes the drivers
Oversaturate the market and keep the revolving door of drivers going. Its corporate greed plain and simple
Wow, Cory was the best of all the RSG guests. Please bring him back!
Thanks
I agree!
Bring him again. He brilliant 👏
He is brilliant
Here’s your 50 cent surge bonus 🤣🤣
A stunning interview. Your best episode yet.
This guy was on the money. Sad part is when companies like Uber and Lyft do this and really begin to start showing enormous profits it begins to create people who want to attain the same profits like them. Now you have a bunch of people who were on the bottom getting mistreated whose sole goal is to become just like these companies who could care less about the well being of the people they service, employees included. So, instead of people wanting to build companies to compete with these guys they build companies to get rich like them and the cycle continues over and over and over and over…
I started blip driving, take far, stop request. Drop off pax find safe space turn back on, when trip radar came in I had to many close calls😊
I’m a 8 month driver with LYFT , elite status 🤦♂️, it’s completely bs and never been worse than it is today… not even close to being worth my time
I used tonstrive for platinum status...then one day it clicked that having one of those statuses is only beneficial to lyft bc it means I'm taking all the crap they threw at me. The only thing I strive for now is to keep my 5-star status, as that's what the RIDERS think of me.
Same. Been at it for over a year part time and it’s definitely not what it used to be.
I drive part time little motivation to get up early for me and drive an hour away. If I’m in area I’ll drive or if in Columbia or St Louis anytime I’ll drive pt. Lyft had promotion bonuses last two weeks so I drove more. I missed large ride bc I had appointments in my area and could not go 40 miles away in one direction which would taken me to Columbia so I could of drive there but I had other things in my schedule so I had to decline. College students don’t tip. I’m thinking about doing a few instacart picks up in my suv or Uber eats despite car not approved for rideshare bc it’s a 2007.
1. You forgot to do a deep dive on commercial insurance markups by Rideshare companies. That reminds me of larger over the road tractor trailer truckload companies where they sold you their truck at profit, give you the loan at profit, did your repairs at their shops, sold you their diesel, etc. When you went broke, they sold your truck to the next driver. If you don’t know how to drive a truck no problem, the government will subsidize you to go through the same trucking companies on site truck driving school. Turnover rates were often a 100%.
2. Add what we want as Rideshare drivers, on protests etc: Pass digital Markets Act, appoint special master to prevent price gouging riders, cheating drivers etc.
3. The breakup of ATT did not bring cost down of internet access. It did help MCI for awhile which sold cheaper phone calls. Overall our internet is more than Europe’s.
Well someone gotta pay the shareholders Instead of driving , drivers should buy and invest
Yeah, right… if we had enough money to buy any useful amount of stocks we wouldn’t be driving in the first place
I don’t think Chris said a word 😂
Way to go guys! the BEST episode of SMTMC! Been Following Cory Doctorow and he's the best at clarifying the meta-issue.
Thanks
They not only change the time on the requests to make it look shorter but it is obvious now the earnings are calculated no more than 20$ per hour doesn’t matter where or how long.. never more than 20$ per hour? Is that some sort of SALARY?? If thats the case i want full benefits😝😝😝
To be fair, public investment in public transportation has been disincentivized by the auto company's lobby for decades. Uber accidentally exploited the fringes of this issue and grew like a cancer.
So I live in Chicago right my board was super red then all of a sudden when I turned the app on my surge goes away but they are still charging 30 something dollars to go to 31st and King Drive I’m on 95th and the Dan Ryan call that they are sending me is $10 or less
I'm in Chicago as well... I'm actually really close to you! Figure out your value... and don't move your car for anything less than that! My acceptance rate has dwindled but I refuse to subject myself to a poverty mindset for Uber!
The heat map disappears and moves away from my location always, which makes me sure that Uber is using AI against us drivers. I refuse more than 75% of their disgusting rides. I now can’t pay rent and have to start another job.
This crazy game 😂 i gave a ride from the airport, rider was an uber driver and said she goes online to see if she lowers the price by increasing suply when booking a ride 😂
Great interview! Worth listening to a few times since it’s a lot of information
Thanks
Yeah how about the anti-collision system that's on the Boeing 737 max? That's another one of their systems that don't work half the time.
Well I wonder if Uber does their accounting the same way they do our accounting, is there quarter at 4 in the morning the day after or is it at 11:59 p.m.
I appreciate and agree with Cory Doctorow's views on what has happened and what is happening. He's brilliant. My question: What's the solution? I am not being critical but in one part of the show he talks about Tim Cook acquiring 90 companies per year and then says mergers and acquisitions have almost stopped completely due the FTC. What needs to happen to stop or even stem "enshitification"?
I've been seeing Lyft do this the last few weeks in my market. I usually drive in the early mornings during the week because there used to be surge in those hours. The last 2 weeks there has been zero surge (replaced with 10-20% turbo), while they're still charging surge to the riders.
I found this fascinating
I would never get in a driverless vehicle! What happens when another driver fucks up, is this driverless vehicle going to react?
Best guest you’ve ever hosted!
Thanks
Any long term retirement?
Cory = Morpheus
One of the best interviews ever. Thanks 🎉
Thanks
Regarding lock-in strategies these companies use, California's Prop 22 was carefully crafted by Uber & Lyft's lawyers as a lock-in strategy for drivers. They do this by linking healthcare stipend eligibility to the number of hours worked for each gig company separately, so if you drive for more than one platform you may not get any healthcare stipend at all, even if you are eligible by total number of hours worked. This makes multi-apping less effective, and coerces drivers to pick one platform and stick with it. Drivers are only free of this burden if they get health insurance through a regular job (or some other source).
DECLINE DECLINE DECLINE
I fully agree with you my phone should not be telling Dara or anybody else how high I am, 🎉🎉
This was a great interview.... Hopefully you have him back because there's so much more info that he didn't have time to share.
I learn more from Sergio & Chris guests than I could possibly dream for. Thank you 🙏🚙
Thanks
Chris kept interrupting and wouldn't stop talking...😂
They sent a trip to Gainsbille from Miami for 224$ 5 and 1/2 hours trip on wich of course i was going to get gas on the wsy there and on the way back about 60$ each trip. To go home with 120& if i dont eat anything and starved myself so a least i could said i made 120$ in 11 hours
Excellent discussion.
Thanks
Amazing guest
Thanks
Wonderful
Thanks
FANTASTIC interview, but Chris you MUST give the guest and Sergio a chance to get a word in good lord man please stop talking for a second PLEASE 🙏
They're the hosts of the show.. they realize they can butt in at any point without it being considered rude. Chris is an invited guest if they chose to sit and listen that's wise, we often have a problem with espousing our opinions at each other without learning anything 😂.
Now me personally idk his view but he seems anti Chrony capitalism. But doesn't label it as such, he just says "capitalism". Hopefully he isn't so "educated" he thinks any other system would be better with the proven results of lifting people out of poverty. Socialism/Marxism/ Communism is not the answer and will never be the answer it's proven in no matter which form it's implemented that it only drains the nation of everything resources, money, happiness of the individual
Thanks
Applause for this.👏👏👏👏👏
Face it ride share drivers aren't that smart an Uber and Lyft know it go to war with them everyday, and try to get cash for the return rides. Most passengers that leave the airport that go to a hotel will need a ride back to the airport at some time.
I'm starting to agree on that intelligence opinion. And the absolute lack of entrepreneur energy in all these drivers who supposedly want to work for themselves.
I don't do rideshare much anymore; mostly into food delivery because I don't want to carry commercial passenger insurance. If passengers get hurt for any reason, they can sue the driver; no proper insurance equals 5-7 figure settlement and bankruptcy. It only has to happen once. Food won't ever sue and it pays better.
As for drivers, 99% of all I see is complaining. Drivers want to work for themselves, but so few want to put in any effort to make it their actual own business. It's just so easy... I know who pays for delivery so I pinpoint advertise. I know what they pay, so I can undercut the apps. I know where they are and have a legit reason to go to their door. And I'm going to be the guy making the delivery either way... if they go through me directly, the same service is just half price.
Easy. A middle school kid with a bicycle could take business away from these apps and make a good living. Meanwhile, the majority of "professionals" in this business just can't be bothered. It's easier for them to go broke sitting around complaining that a corporation should be giving them more. The reality is screw giving; this is business, we take or we don't get.
So much money to be made in a subscription based driver app.
I didn’t even get to drive this morning because they not paying for what they’re getting
Great discussion
Thanks
Surge Pricing is taxed at 29% so a 10$ ride is worth 7$ let us buy Uber stock instead so we are invested in Uber for retirement...
They will have their 6 million drivers to abuse until they can't afford to either repair their vehicle or buy a new one. Then they wake up and see how bad the pay is if they take every ride.
So they know the level you are at when picking up at airports. So it doesn’t pay you when you’re on the wrong level.
It’s great for a college kid, who’s parents pay for the car, gas, insurance, and repairs…
aurora and waymo is having large investments behind it. Will it happen next year no but it's coming and nothing is stopping it
Weekend quest…70 rides for $40
I usually average $25/hour before gas but saturday night into sunday morning i averged over $39/hour
Do you live in NY?
@@Dog-advisor no, Dallas
@@B_Bodziak what do you mean? I said i usually average $25/hour....
My gross earning for 2023 went from $1.18 per mile to $0.50 per mile
Cory did not "come up with that term" Enshittification. !! FACTS It's in the gd dictionary !! The term was even discussed and tossed around over the last few years by another researcher/writer named Jeff Thomas Black, and Sergio, Ride Share guys knows him. So, Cory is a self-congratulating liar in the opening of the discussion and Sergio allowed him to do it. Cory did not "coin the term" !!
I think boycott Uber and Lyft campaign is the way to go forward
I feel so so sad as a driver
“You can make MILLIONS doing rideshare! Quit your job and start driving today!” Goofs never had a real job where you NEVER talk about how much you make.
Too many fake accounts on uber and lyft
Apple and Google can shut this down
Uber stock is crushing, Investors know that low pay to drivers will make them override Uber.
HUNDREDS OF THOUSAND DRIVERS ARE BEING TRAINED NOW TO DO THEY'RE OWN N.E.M.T BUSINESS & DO DIRECT MEDICAL RIDES & PROPERLY MEDICALLY TRAINED & DRIVERS GET PAID DIRECTLY AS N.E.M.T. DRIVER & PAID UP TO $440 FOR EACH RIDE !!!!!
Sounds like retaliation to me. Punishment
😡
!!!! N.L.R.B. was JUST SHUT DOWN !!!!
Why are yall still trying to stay in this business. You pay is going down and all the people I know think that this is not an honorable job. Save your dignity and get out while you can. Don’t you ever get tired of fighting the company.
What’s an honorable job ? W2 slave is a slave no matter what.
Cory explained it all in layman’s terms.
I'm at 110 for 3 hours so far tonight 😏
He's making a living on UA-cam.
Are you covering ride share problems?
Same question I asked on many occasions, Uber is a poverty trap, the house always wins
ZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ, not my business, not my concern. I'm doing my own thing. In the last 4 days I made $968, total 26 hours . If you really consider yourself an INDEPENDENT CONTRACTOR you really don't need Uber/Lyft that much at all. They pay beer 🍺money.
What’s up, ladies?
😱😱😱😂😂😂
The guest is insufferable
Like you
u guys talk too much, just go out an do work, stop yapping.
cherry picking is over and coming to you soon..gone are the $1 a mile club
