Excellent job. Love the idea of a separate chamber that's big enough to climb into for maintenance of the filter and pump. There's a few things I'd have done differntly. Those lights I'd have used a pipe going right through the wall, that leads to a separate bay. That way if you ever need to change the bulb, you'd be able to access the lamp from outside without any need to lower the pool level. But since you've used LED lamps, the probblem likely won't arrise.

You said in 2 places of the video that the pipes under the concrete broke after the cement was already poured. But near the end, you connected the pipes to the pump anyway. Did you tear the cement up and replace the pipes? I think I'm missing a piece of the puzzle here.
Well, countries at that part of Europe have the finest soil, not that hard to dig with a shovel. Hungary, Western parts of Romania, Northern Serbia and North-East of Croatia have very soft dirt, bit mixed with clay (the best lands for agriculture in all Europe). It's hard task for those in rocky areas close or at the mountains. They can't do much without machinery. Anyway, digging hole that large by hands is definitely not an easy task for anyone.

I built a similar pool in my back yard a few years ago, but yes, I rented a mini excavator for the digging. With all the tree roots and stuff here I would still be digging if I had done it by hand....
Two things i thought were rent mini ex, and call concrete truck(ready mix) not bags… it’s usually cheaper too plus you dont have to mix it and wheelbarrow usually. Would save a boatload of labor and time for a much lower price on ready mix. Buying bags will cost about $230 ish per cubic yard (USD) vs ~ $160 per cubic yard already mixed and ready to shoot into place.
Also, as an owner of a swimming pool company, one suggestion I have is adding a main drain, at the lowest point of the deep end, if you could have done it again. Again, great work!
Having had a pool, a main drain makes it sooooo much easier when cleaning. You can just sweep everything to the drain instead of vacuuming which I hater doing.

You are a true hero. I also live in Hungary and dug a 40 m³ pond myself. The summers are very hot and the soil (sand) is often as hard as concrete. After digging such a big hole you know what you have done. You really did an amazing job! 👍

I live almost in the middle, where the land is quite low. Due to climate change, only 8 to 12% of the annual precipitation has fallen in recent years. It's different at Lake Balaton because this region is close to the Alps and naturally has more rainfall. Climate in Hungary is more diverse as for example in Germany.

For whom it may concern: Fibreglass with Top Coating is pretty common in Europe for swimming pools. BUT.... DON"T use BLUE top coat! It may sound kinda strange, but use WHITE (RAL9001) top coat color! Once filled with water it will look like a tropic ocean!

Nice work. My dad let me and my brother build a pool/pond. Took us 2 years every day after school. But we live out in no where in Ohio, so we didn’t have to worry about a government official telling us what we can do on are land. Keep up the great work.
@@MobileICTHengelo Here in Western Australia, I wanted to remove a small pool (kids have grown up and the liner was old ) you need a structural engineer to oversee the removal, and inspection report for the backfill compactness tests and a council inspector to final inspect.
My Dad had an in ground pool originally built with a vinyl liner in his 60’s. Instead of using the company who built the pool when the vinyl died he decided to build a fix himself. So he then had a hole in the ground as you did, he also built the walls using cinder blocks. Back then there was not a way to use the fiberglass as you did. (Great ideas by the way) I do not remember what he did for that part. He used Portland cement as it makes a whiter finish than regular concrete. He did paint his white. He was lucky to already have the pump, plumbing, etc. They really enjoyed it for years.

I didn't hear you mention but hopefully you used stainless screws/nuts etc. where needed. You could sand the fiberglass to make it smoother (might have missed that part too if you did). I'd add an area at least 4 feet wide all around the pool to walk on so that dirt and grass don't end up in it. Even a wood deck would be good, save your filter system. Hope ya had a good summer in there. Good job man! 🇨🇦

That is a well deserved pool and i like the end result. I think a tile feature strip would look good on the edge of the pool and tile the steps. Just my opinion.
Very impressive! I was unaware that dry stacking of concrete block would actually work, but it clearly does. The only thing I would do differently is to add a bullnose profile on the leading edge of the concrete steps. Having done countless concrete projects in my lifetime, I know what hard work it actually is. Dr Kun Daniel makes it look easy, a testament to his very impressive expertise!
There is a process called surface bonding that allows for mortorless bonding of blocks. The first course is bedded in mortar and leveled. All other courses are dry stacked and leveled with small shims of wood or even paper. After they’re stacked they’re soaked with water and they’re then parge coated with a layer of surface bonding cement made of Portland cement and chopped fiberglass. You can make your own or (here in the us) buy it from the home center. You can coat just one side but two sides are more than twice as strong. It was originally developed for water proofing cisterns.
What an amazing project, it was absolutely incredible, I had a cinder block pool and it had 1/2 inch padding and a drop in liner, but that liner was $2,500 to have made and installed, and that was 20 years ago, well done sir.
i think it came out great, for not being a professional pool builder. it's great. you have a few small things to work out. but you have a great foundation to build on. I don't know if you thought about this yet. but you can always tile that pool.. it will clean up the block work you mentioned. and also water proof it more. they have a liquid membrane that you can roll on to the walls and the floor. then you can tile directly over it. I know it's an added expense but you can do it maybe next year. but all the hard work is completed. enjoy your success.
@@viannarts Yes, although maybe the paint would have to be sanded first for a better bond, I'm not sure. You could use silicone adhesive to attach tile though, it should work well.

Ended up buying above ground pool but I'll probably end up doing something like this in the future. Well done mate, it was just as good to watch second time round.

When you build something yourself, you know where all of the mistakes and flaws are. The fiberglass job on the bottom and sides looks better than you think it does. BRAVO!
I'm always very envious of all these DIY people on UA-cam who have have easy to dig backyards. I even think about digging in my back yard and 3 of my shovels and a mattock break. My yard is practically solid rock at roughly 400mm down so I can't dig too far unless I have hired machinery. Outstanding effort by the way, Ripper of a job!
I live in Florida. where Im at anything below 12"-22" is fossiled coral rock, aka limestone. Like, Ive installed a fence where we pulled a 4-1/2" x 5' foot limestone boulder and had to pickaxe it into smaller chunks to then refill around the post hole so the soil around it wouldn't collapse. Digging here, even with an auger is a giant pain-in-the-ass.

Great job for that small budget, a tip: don't amp the pump up to 10m³/h, the pressure in the sandfilter will be too high causing it to wear faster and most importantly the filtration of the water will be decreased since you're sucking the water through the sand much faster and with higher pressure, it will create channels in the sand. It's better to filter at 7m³/h for longer hours.

Yes, I know, I received a lot of criticism about the 220V. As an electrical technician, I do not consider it any more dangerous than the circulation pump, but I will replace it with a 12 or 24 V one.
I probably wouldn't DIY the electrical, but after thinking about it, you're probably at low risk because you generally won't be in a position to complete a circuit, so even if there is an electrical fault you might not even feel anything. The thing I would be scared of is the wall collapsing (cracking), especially without any gravel backfill, but maybe keeping the pool full of water will provide enough counter pressure it's not a problem. I love the idea of using fiberglass, but I'd be worried about the resin lasting in the sun even with a UV resistant formula. I really enjoyed the video, I hope you make a followup in a year or two just to say "hey everything is still working".
The boat is made of the fiberglass I use. UV stable for decades. Looks good so far. I thought the resin would separate from the concrete. He could not. 220 V lighting cannot actually form a circuit with its contents. And the leakage current relay disconnects all problems immediately. The water in the pool has the same potential as the soil. But I got a negative comment, so I would rather change it to a 24V or 12V system.
Respect to your dedication! I think I would have reduced the size immediately after digging for a couple of minutes. Either to save Material to rent a digger, or at least to dig less. :D Subbed and liked, thanks for making a video of your Project

Yes, the referenced m3 values do not refer to dry material. For example, about 9m3 of concrete went into the foundation. This required about 11 m3 of gravel and 2.8 tons of cement.
Nicely done. I would have done certain things differently, but it doesn't matter, you nailed it. The ONLY thing I must comment is that covering the whole pump space with concrete and leaving only a small manhole was not the best idea. I would have covered it with a larger manhole cover (I see you managed to do it for a smaller one). But yeah, I congratulate you!
Yes, this also gives me a headache. I got an acid container from which I want to make the sand gravel. The diameter of the container is 65 cm and the expiration date is 58 cm....

The home made lights are not that safe I would have liked to see lots of silicone used for the two holes in the cup to run the plastic insulator. Still I would run a very low truck battery voltage on that pool wiring for the lights with a GFCI circuit in case water were to penetrate the wiring then nobody would be electrocuted to death. Never cheap out on electrical for pools where water is concerned and people and kids going to swim in it.

I like it when people bring up this topic... In an interesting way, no one has been bothered by the fact that the circulation pump is also 220 as. However, it is still in contact with the water on the metal part and is present as an inductive load. It somehow doesn't bother people because it works silently. almost everyone mentions the spectacular part that lights up. Please tell me what happens if the phase gets on the water and someone is inside... Nothing. There is full PE coverage with separate earthing probes with life protection relay. But if they weren't there, no one would be electrocuted even if one of the phases was exposed to water. However, the water has a one-to-one ground potential, even though there is a plastic pool wall, everything is connected to the ground probe in the case of metal parts. I am a high current electrical technician. Obviously I'm not going to make my own pool life-threatening...

why do you really need a main drain? You can just pump it out if needed to empty it.
Having had a pool, a main drain makes it sooooo much easier when cleaning. You can just sweep everything to the drain instead of vacuuming which I hater doing.

You are a true hero. I also live in Hungary and dug a 40 m³ pond myself. The summers are very hot and the soil (sand) is often as hard as concrete. After digging such a big hole you know what you have done. You really did an amazing job! 👍

I live almost in the middle, where the land is quite low. Due to climate change, only 8 to 12% of the annual precipitation has fallen in recent years. It's different at Lake Balaton because this region is close to the Alps and naturally has more rainfall.
Climate in Hungary is more diverse as for example in Germany.

For whom it may concern: Fibreglass with Top Coating is pretty common in Europe for swimming pools. BUT.... DON"T use BLUE top coat! It may sound kinda strange, but use WHITE (RAL9001) top coat color! Once filled with water it will look like a tropic ocean!

Nice work. My dad let me and my brother build a pool/pond. Took us 2 years every day after school. But we live out in no where in Ohio, so we didn’t have to worry about a government official telling us what we can do on are land. Keep up the great work.

@@MobileICTHengelo Here in Western Australia, I wanted to remove a small pool (kids have grown up and the liner was old ) you need a structural engineer to oversee the removal, and inspection report for the backfill compactness tests and a council inspector to final inspect.
My Dad had an in ground pool originally built with a vinyl liner in his 60’s. Instead of using the company who built the pool when the vinyl died he decided to build a fix himself.
So he then had a hole in the ground as you did, he also built the walls using cinder blocks.
Back then there was not a way to use the fiberglass as you did. (Great ideas by the way) I do not remember what he did for that part. He used Portland cement as it makes a whiter finish than regular concrete. He did paint his white. He was lucky to already have the pump, plumbing, etc.
They really enjoyed it for years.

I didn't hear you mention but hopefully you used stainless screws/nuts etc. where needed. You could sand the fiberglass to make it smoother (might have missed that part too if you did). I'd add an area at least 4 feet wide all around the pool to walk on so that dirt and grass don't end up in it. Even a wood deck would be good, save your filter system.

Very impressive! I was unaware that dry stacking of concrete block would actually work, but it clearly does. The only thing I would do differently is to add a bullnose profile on the leading edge of the concrete steps. Having done countless concrete projects in my lifetime, I know what hard work it actually is. Dr Kun Daniel makes it look easy, a testament to his very impressive expertise!
I'm also surprised by the dry stacking, it gives me several ideas. Great job, you have to be really determined to achieve stuff like this.
it works but its better to glue them down, that way you can get them leveled, something dry stacking wont.
There is a process called surface bonding that allows for mortorless bonding of blocks. The first course is bedded in mortar and leveled. All other courses are dry stacked and leveled with small shims of wood or even paper. After they’re stacked they’re soaked with water and they’re then parge coated with a layer of surface bonding cement made of Portland cement and chopped fiberglass. You can make your own or (here in the us) buy it from the home center. You can coat just one side but two sides are more than twice as strong. It was originally developed for water proofing cisterns.

What an amazing project, it was absolutely incredible, I had a cinder block pool and it had 1/2 inch padding and a drop in liner, but that liner was $2,500 to have made and installed, and that was 20 years ago, well done sir.
i think it came out great, for not being a professional pool builder. it's great. you have a few small things to work out. but you have a great foundation to build on. I don't know if you thought about this yet. but you can always tile that pool.. it will clean up the block work you mentioned. and also water proof it more. they have a liquid membrane that you can roll on to the walls and the floor. then you can tile directly over it. I know it's an added expense but you can do it maybe next year. but all the hard work is completed. enjoy your success.

@@viannarts Yes, although maybe the paint would have to be sanded first for a better bond, I'm not sure. You could use silicone adhesive to attach tile though, it should work well.

Ended up buying above ground pool but I'll probably end up doing something like this in the future. Well done mate, it was just as good to watch second time round.

I'm always very envious of all these DIY people on UA-cam who have have easy to dig backyards. I even think about digging in my back yard and 3 of my shovels and a mattock break. My yard is practically solid rock at roughly 400mm down so I can't dig too far unless I have hired machinery. Outstanding effort by the way, Ripper of a job!

I live in Florida. where Im at anything below 12"-22" is fossiled coral rock, aka limestone. Like, Ive installed a fence where we pulled a 4-1/2" x 5' foot limestone boulder and had to pickaxe it into smaller chunks to then refill around the post hole so the soil around it wouldn't collapse. Digging here, even with an auger is a giant pain-in-the-ass.

Great job for that small budget, a tip: don't amp the pump up to 10m³/h, the pressure in the sandfilter will be too high causing it to wear faster and most importantly the filtration of the water will be decreased since you're sucking the water through the sand much faster and with higher pressure, it will create channels in the sand. It's better to filter at 7m³/h for longer hours.

Yes, I know, I received a lot of criticism about the 220V. As an electrical technician, I do not consider it any more dangerous than the circulation pump, but I will replace it with a 12 or 24 V one.
I probably wouldn't DIY the electrical, but after thinking about it, you're probably at low risk because you generally won't be in a position to complete a circuit, so even if there is an electrical fault you might not even feel anything. The thing I would be scared of is the wall collapsing (cracking), especially without any gravel backfill, but maybe keeping the pool full of water will provide enough counter pressure it's not a problem. I love the idea of using fiberglass, but I'd be worried about the resin lasting in the sun even with a UV resistant formula. I really enjoyed the video, I hope you make a followup in a year or two just to say "hey everything is still working".
The boat is made of the fiberglass I use. UV stable for decades. Looks good so far. I thought the resin would separate from the concrete. He could not. 220 V lighting cannot actually form a circuit with its contents. And the leakage current relay disconnects all problems immediately. The water in the pool has the same potential as the soil. But I got a negative comment, so I would rather change it to a 24V or 12V system.

Yes, the referenced m3 values do not refer to dry material. For example, about 9m3 of concrete went into the foundation. This required about 11 m3 of gravel and 2.8 tons of cement.

The ONLY thing I must comment is that covering the whole pump space with concrete and leaving only a small manhole was not the best idea. I would have covered it with a larger manhole cover (I see you managed to do it for a smaller one).

The home made lights are not that safe I would have liked to see lots of silicone used for the two holes in the cup to run the plastic insulator. Still I would run a very low truck battery voltage on that pool wiring for the lights with a GFCI circuit in case water were to penetrate the wiring then nobody would be electrocuted to death. Never cheap out on electrical for pools where water is concerned and people and kids going to swim in it.

he did have an RCD (residual current detector) breaker in his circuit, which is the same as a North American GFCI (mentioned at 44:04).

I like it when people bring up this topic... In an interesting way, no one has been bothered by the fact that the circulation pump is also 220 as. However, it is still in contact with the water on the metal part and is present as an inductive load. It somehow doesn't bother people because it works silently. almost everyone mentions the spectacular part that lights up. Please tell me what happens if the phase gets on the water and someone is inside... Nothing. There is full PE coverage with separate earthing probes with life protection relay. But if they weren't there, no one would be electrocuted even if one of the phases was exposed to water. However, the water has a one-to-one ground potential, even though there is a plastic pool wall, everything is connected to the ground probe in the case of metal parts. I am a high current electrical technician. Obviously I'm not going to make my own pool life-threatening...

Fresh well water has a high iron content. 1 week and the filter takes it out.
