      They have even run charters on a catamaran before, for instance a Bali 5.4. Look those videos up. All boats have their purpose. Here in Denmark the vast majority of boats are either small monohul sailboats or small monohul motorboats, which I would not even classify as yachts, but mostly just dayboats. Because that fits in our marinas and it is also the best for inland sailing, often going into very shallow waters as well and narrow sailing lines. In tropical circumnavigation and live onboard lifestyle, which is, what I would love to do, a catamaran or trimaran is for sure the best option, in my opinion, because you got all that lovely accommodation, stabile anchorage, where you actually spend most of the time anyway and also comfortable sailing too. However, the dream of the Nautistyles couple is to go world exploring and then you need a much more strong build explorer yacht, especially when you want to do it and charter in luxury or comfort. Some however do it small steel or aluminium monohuls though, as for instance Alluring Arctic Sailing, but that is for sure also an entire other lifestyle. Not much luxury about that at all, but for sure an adventure.

      The things they say aren't about the sailing gear or other stuff related to sailing. They should, for example, measure the clearance under the bridge decks. Will the cats pound a lot? A very important question! I'm an old offshore yachtie who learned to design yacht's lines.

    Nice video again guys and a lovely boat to boot. I feel Victoria was a little flat today. Was it hot? I hope you haven't been too stressed and running around back and forward between build and home and filming locations...The no outtakes was the real tell. Get some rest guys and a sundowner or two and chill out. Fair 💨 and following 🌊 for your new Bering!

    28 knots flat out!!! That's what impressed me most about this catamaran. Lets say with a decent breeze you can easily do 20-21 knots, that is straight moving for a sail vessel of this size. Cabins/heads are a bit small, but the main saloon/galley is NICE, along with all that outdoor space out back.

    Glad you like the counter top garbage deal . I just put a small bag in mine , mostly for kitchen scraps . Could have others for recycling . Have a shelf below . One of my kitchen clients said it was the best idea . Maybe have 2 in line using the same depth of the cupboard . Have mine for 21 years , glad to see one on a super yacht . So much easier to use and less to go wrong :-)

    One of the best live aboard' s I have seen all so practical and functional .
    If 1972 exchange rates worked now , I could buy it , not practical for a single guy .
    The sort of boat you hope your children will take over .
    Am watching your build , would love to see the galley space , before seeing your plans .
    Be nice to compare . Been making kitchens and things for 30 years .
    Yes a narrow galley kitchen is fine on a yacht , not what you need .
    You will need space for folks to move around in the kitchen .
    Big hob , big extractor unit . My fat trap is super yacht quality , have seen some similar , just bigger , ease of maintenance .
    Sink unit , 1 big wash /prep for dishwasher takes big pots . Smaller Prep sink for veggies /seafood etc .
    You have the magic triangle , fridge , hob /oven and sink .
    Keep the close , less walking :-)

    LA Vagabonde had that hole in the galley so that they could dump organic trash through it. Of course if they were underway, it reversed course and blew stuff out of it. I've seen an Alia that had a trash bin that was on like a lazy Susan, so when one can was full, there was a knob that you turned and a new can came around and that put the full can towards the 'bar' area of the galley where there was an opening to then empty that can and put in a new liner. It was compacted. Then instead of having a refrigerated section in the forepeak like most boats, they had a deep freezer in the engine room where they placed the trash. It had 3 other deep freezers for food near crew quarters and one in the laz.

  • @hellsop
    @hellsop Рік тому

    15:00 Some commercial kitchens that are very space-constrained will have a buffer space in front of the sink that's a little below the level of the counter, that will have a splash-resistant cover over a waste chute to a trash can. Smaller sink that way, but more area for splashes to be caught before ending up on the floor and the space UNDER the sink means a larger bin space than would be accommodated were it to just go straight down. Maybe that's less important for someone who's just entertaining on the boat, but for passages.... trash happens and being able to keep it behind gasketed doors can help.

  • @jas-ve7bg
    @jas-ve7bg Рік тому

    When I was in the navy, we had a pwp room plastic waste processing room where we would melt and compact plastic waist into 1inch disks to recycle at port as well as a Hydraulic can crusher and an industrial size food disposal unit that ground everything up and flushed the food waste out to sea.

    These seems like it was set up for serious cruising and meant to go anywhere. You have a Great Loop as your dream, but mine is the Galapagos, Antarctica, fjords of Norway and the Northern Passage, but the ultimate is The Blue Highway. You need a serious boat, but shallow draft.
    Also, I immediately hit the like button, I will go commit seppuku now

    • @chrisheine1139
      @chrisheine1139 Рік тому

      Oh Lord Norway would be cool just beautiful from the water I bet!! ❤

    • @1corinthians15.1-4kjv
      @1corinthians15.1-4kjv Рік тому +1

      You don't need a shallow draft at all, but you do need an absolute sturdy build boat, which could take some serious beating and which also would be easy to heat up. It is cold waters, even in summer. Even in summer you could be freezing, with no effective heating. That alone actually makes it irrelevant to consider a catamaran for that kind of dreams. Look up the channel Alluring Arctic Sailing, which has just finished their project rebuilding an old aluminium monohol for that purpose, which in my book is the perfect boat for the job.

    • @1corinthians15.1-4kjv
      @1corinthians15.1-4kjv Рік тому

      Some of the fjords of Norway, as for instance the massive Sognefjord, virtually have vertical drop mountainsides, also below water, so they could easily be a mile deep in places: For sure, a shallow draft is not, what you need at all!

    • @clifbradley
      @clifbradley Рік тому

      @@1corinthians15.1-4kjv For the Blue Highway you need a shallow draft. Parts of it are only 2 ft deep and other parts are super deep, but then you have stretches that are shallow and in order to get on the islands, you need shallow,draft. I realize that the fjords are deep, but that was only one part, the part I really want to do is the Blue Highway and besides being barren and remote, it's got unpredictable shore lines.

    • @1corinthians15.1-4kjv
      @1corinthians15.1-4kjv Рік тому

      @@clifbradley Okay, 2 feet would be too shallow for most catamarans too. The only one, that I can think of, that could actually sail in such shallow conditions, would be the Gemini. It is not a bad catamaran though, for a couple. Absolutely do not offer the space of this one, on the other hand, you can pick up Gemini 105MC catamarans sometimes dirt cheap, as down to 54k Euro for a ten year old one in sailing condition, have I seen here in Europe (yachtall). They would be a handful in open ocean though, a small and very narrow hull, for a catamaran. Some have done it though, it is not impossible. People have even crossed the Pacific in these boats, but one thing is doing it, another is the lack of comfort, while you do it. Maybe you should consider to rent a boat for that purpose and buy one for the Arctic sailing later or vice versa.

    My Rule Number One: eliminate as much potential trash as possible while prepping - store as much as possible in correctly labelled, stackable reusable plastic containers. If you have managed to cram as much freezer space possible in the hull, also empty canned items into same style and size contairs - and put' em in the freezer as well.
    The empty packaging can then be disposed of on shore thus avoiding gash being dropped over the side.
    Used food containers can be washed out and stacked inside each other to save space. The last boat I crewed on slipped moorings on a 4 month cruse and returned with very little gash - i small bag of unsalvagable clothing etc- and nothing went over the side except food scraps.

    That would be such a cool place to stay! Metaphorically speaking, of course. You two came back to life once you got inside. Regarding trash receptacles, I like the foot pedal versions. Do they make that sort of thing for countertops?

    You two are the best. Great job. For me, I would want much more solar and Li ion batteries on a sailing yacht. The large refrigerators and other appliances illustrate the need to carry extra diesel fuel, as the generator probably never turns off and the boat needs two shore electrical lines when in port. Way to inefficient for me, but I sure there are others that will really appreciate the luxuries offered by this boat. I was wondering if the boat was set up to be convenient for large charters, which would explain the inefficiencies. All the best.

    Garrick Reviews just had a Sea Ray for sale that he did a walk through of and it had just done The Great Loop. Thought of you Victoria. Not that you can buy another boat, but maybe while you are waiting for 'Roxtar' to be built, you might want to do the loop. I know...no money. Trust me...I .live that like you wouldn't believe.

    New 45 footers are going for over $1 million, this is 5 times the boat. There was a 62' 08 Sunreef sailing cat listed at $900K that wasn't even close to this cat in condition. Great deal for those who qualify, remember the golden rules of the sea; No bank loans, No insurance, Hire a highly qualified year round captain so the boat earns its keep even when you are not onboard. Medium charter use will pay for this boat in 2 years.

    I know its an odd thing to ask, but I'm just curious.

      Possibly a door stop or retainer so the opening door does not band into the GRP or can be held in place there.

    Teak decks are great to look at & a b!#c to stand on in normal summer sailing weather. So, you guys have asbestos type calluses or 2nd degree burns. Always hated hopping shade, especially if the person in front of you, stops... Thanks for the tour, a grand cat! Now, I just need about $2mil...🤣 Fair winds...

    I Really like the dark hardwood look. So many boats get rid of all type get rid of wood. Yes I know it needs maintenance. So does the rest of the boat.
