Comic Relief is a British charity founded by Richard Curtis and Lenny Henry in 1984. Every year - it used to be every two years - we have Red Nose Day, where we can buy and wear red clown noses with the proceeds going to Comic Relief and British sitcoms often put on special Conic Relief episodes to help raise money for the charity.
It is still every two years. The other year, it's children in need
Red Nose Day is still a thing?
@@AndrewHalliwell comic relief is every odd year and sports relief is every even year since 2002, children in need is every year
@@Fireglo Fri 17 march 2023. I don't think it's shown on primetime TV anymore though
The first comic relief aired in 1988
Elton did a good one with Rowan Atkinson taking the piss out of his name for 10 mins. He might be a grumpy tantrum-prone primadonna, but he's a good sport.
Also one with Alan Partridge. 😁
Elton John was offered a copy of the questions for this sketch but said no to them as he was treating it like any other interview.
Comic relief is like a telethon, it's a night of comedy to raise money for charity... They do live sketches, elements of a roast (like this clip), comedy versions of serious shows, it's a mix of stuff and they get a lot of celebrities willing to be the butt of the joke.
The butt of the joke 😂😂
I live in Birmingham, UK and in my area fireworks are constantly be set of all year round. It happens so often I get the impression people are celebrating having a good dump.
No ifs n buts, it's the South asians, mr reed.
No kidding, I've always said that about the area I live in Brum too
@@blackbob3358 or the arrival of recreational pharmaceuticals
Funniest comment on YT !! cracked me up !
Elton John always willing to support charities, even if the jokes are at his expense, we usually hear fireworks around november, Guy Fawkes, and new year, usually quiet for the rest of the year, think fireworks in uk are rather expensive, another great reaction, many thanks for all your work last year, so looking forward to seeing your reactions in 2023, best wishes to you both 😊
I remember when mr Dwight would'nt have listened to 20 seconds of that stuff. He's certainly mellowed the older he's got. Though i fancy, with all these fascist governments operating now, UK included, there'll still be plenty that riles him.
British humor...a guy trying to blow up the parliament and failed but the Brits now celebrate it with a fireworks xD
Little Britain also did a sketch for Comic Relief with George Michael which is hilarious. Recommended.
8 out of ten cats does countdown came about because of comic relief . It was done as a one off special for comic relief and was so popular it became a regular thing
I think it was for Channel 4's 'Stand Up For Cancer', since 'Countdown' & '8 Out of 10 Cats' are both on the channel, whereas Comic Relief & Children In Need tend to be BBC-based. Either way, I'm glad it exists! 😆 -x-
Elton John could have been a comedian, hes so hilarious. I think this is why hes lasted so long and appeals to so many different people. His humor and 1970s cute shyness and massive talent appeals to all of us.
And to be funny and laugh and not go woke and angry Karen mode.
"not go woke and angry Karen mode"
You do realise that American right wingers would cancel this show in a heartbeat, right?@@Some_Guy6
Fair play to Sir Elton here. He seems like a good bloke. And that's before even mentioning his undoubted musical talent.
theres a classic Ricky Gervais comment at a music awards ceremony , Ricky Mentions "the queen of pop , not you Elton" , Elton grins
He didn’t freak out.
Musical talent? 😅 he's a fraud..in every way..
You're a Comic Relief!
Good on Elton, what a sport!
About fireworks: Where I live (Sweden) fireworks are now regulated, so the only days when these are generally allowed are New Years Eve, Valpurgis Night, Midsummers eve (Not much point of fireworks here though since swedish summers are pretty much just a slightly darker shade of light! ) and also All Hallows Eve.
If you want to light up fireworks any other time of the year you formally have to get a permit from the municipality, and the reason for that permit being needed is mainly due to animal care, both domesticated and wild.
Thanks for the video! Little Britain is awesome, and Elton had so much fun in this video! He had some good comebacks as well!! Glad that you enjoyed it as much as I did back in the day 😁😁
he's now married with two young sons. One of our national treasures
yes his son carried the toy rabbit my wife and i gave him at Elton's wedding
David Walliams knows Elton John outside outside of TV. He and Alan Carr (no relation to jimmy) was once on their way to an Elton John Birthday Party in Windsor and they pulled the car up by the Oxford Blue pub where we was and gave a shout and a wave to us. Elton does actually have a kid and he is sometimes at the school where my cousins daughter goes.
theres also "come fly with me" which is little britain too
There's an interview between Graham Norton and Elton John in Monaco or Nice from a few years ago, and Elton was really funny, witty, generous with his life story.
Lol KB , if you say “are you ready for bum ? “ to QB then you need to prepare for being single rapid ! 🤣
👍🏴
Elton is very much in on the joke as it’s for uks Comic Relief 👍🏴
Very funny, love it! Fireworks are a constant nightmare here in London..... Especially the exploding cars... 😂
Sir Elton knew the show, he was having the time of his life.
Elton parties at his Berkshire home(not to far from mine) are legendary, never seen Elton but the endless stream of Range Rovers and Bentleys to his party’s don’t go unnoticed.
Fireworks are mainly set off on November 5th (Bonfire night) and New Years Eve - sometimes people set a few off at weddings or birthdays 🎉
Love Elton he's a one off
LITTLE BRITAIN Lou & Andy Moments! Funny
Epic reaction KB. Happy New Year to you and Queen B.
With the fireworks they do my head in too. For several days around 5th November and Christmas/New Year Birmingham in the UK where I live is like a warzone with fireworks. My cat and my friends dogs hate it. Don't mind on Guy Fawkes night or New Years Eve but not endless days on end.
Same with the fireworks here in Manchester UK too man. Every so often you just hear one, no matter what time it is. Is it Bonfire Night? Is it New Year? Is there a revolution? No.. it’s just a fucking Tuesday. Hooray! 🙃
If you're in Manchester are you sure the random single ones aren't gunshots rather than fireworks
Gunchester
Going off here in Bolton now!!!
@@bmxerqf882 Could be. 🤣
Love your reaction, some people let fireworks of when it's still light out.🤔😁
Hi King Boomer. You must check out some sketches by "Bird & Fortune" - John Bird and John Fortune, a satirical double-act both of whom are now sadly departed, John Bird only recently (RIP). The format of the sketches is an interview by a journalist of a public figure. They are very clever sketches that will have you in stitches I promise.
Where I live, with the exception of the period around bonfire night and new year, a firework going off usually means the weed is ready for collection 😆
Great video 👍 When watching comedians or actors doing their job sometimes they will start "corpseing", which they try not to laugh.!
Lol, I bet I could do your dentistry with that thumbnail. 😂
we get fireworks for no reason to, usually at 2 am
Comic relief is a annual charity event
Aahhh ...... the look in your eyes when you think of ..... Bitty!!!
roflmao ... classic, love your work!
Comic Relief is a bit like Live Aid. It is an annual charity fund raising event.
I thought Live Aid was just once as of Queen
@@mlee6050 There were a lot more bands than just queen involved in Live Aid but yes Live Aid only happened once in 1985. Comic relief, also known as Red Nose Day, was started the same year by comedians and is still going today. Thought to have raised over 1.5 billion pounds so far.
Been a long time since EJ had a "bit of bitty"! LOL
Something similar for Comic Relief was Ali G interviewing the Beckhams which other reactors have done
I'm in the UK and I hear fireworks all the time. I don't know if it's a birthday, wedding ,passing exams or whatever
Oh wow!!! Thanks for doing my reaction suggestion.
"i'm the only gay in the village" is the catch phrase of that character. In terms of outfits that character wears alot like that.
This was broadcast in 2005.
It's funny, but the way British society has changed means that some of the comedic questions make less sense these days.
Sir Elton is indeed married now, to David.
And they have kids.
Obviously 17+ years ago, this seemed to be something outside the scope of thinking of even these guys.
Gay marriage was illegal back then that's why it was a weird question to ask an openly gay man. I'm sure both of them saw it as an inevitability that it would be legal one day.
I live in Manchester and we have fireworks going off almost every day where i live all year round.
Bonfire night in the UK is November 5th , but usually start in October lol
This is just unfiltered but genuinely "all in good fun" crude ironically "mature" ironic... Paradoxical...too high... COMEDY. THANK YOU. YOU'VE BEEN A GREAT AUDIE..NCE.
Fireworks usually only happen on 2 occasions in the UK, 5th November on Guy Fawkes night when he and his friends tried to blow up Parliement but got caught at the last minute, so sort of celebrating failure there, and the other is New Year at midnight. If anyone in Scotland starts doing the firework thing outside these 2 designated timeframes they will be told to stop with the obvious consequences if they do not concur.
Do'nt forget our Asian chums, mr avery. It used to be dreadful at one time, here in Bfd,Yorks, but they're far more respectful now.
Shame Guy Fawkes didn't succeed.
We have Bonfire Night on November the 5th. The fireworks can start going off from late August to late November. Then there seems to be a lull till New Years Eve and N.Y. Day.
This was for charity, he's a good sport for playing along
I’m laughing at you more than the sketches 🤣🤣🤣 Nicnic (Suffolk uk)
Yeah my neighbours between them set off fireworks around 30 nights of the year, around bonfire night we have fireworks every night for a whole week, every birthday, every holiday, drives me mad as my poor cat hates them.
Still have fireworks here, hear them all year round, someone always knows somebody who can get them
Yeah the innuendos are all classic.
Elton is a great sport with things like this. This is all for charity
I’m amazed Americans understand the humour.
Happy new Year Man,
7:35 here in Grimsby (uk) fireworks lit when drugs are in for the smack heads
Yh I live in a tourist resort in England and fireworks seem to go off every few days especially weekends all year round..
I'm in Manchester in the U.K and in the south of the city where lots of students live who are attending the uni here. I mention that because the students start setting off fireworks around the start of October and it goes on up until after new year. They start around October as its the lead up to Bonfire Night (Guy Fawkes) and they must spend a freakin fortune on them.
We just light fireworks on or near 5 November called Bonfire night also at midnight on Jan 1st😊
"Sometimes you are confused" ??? You are ALWAYS CONFUSED Florida Man!! 🤪🤪🤪🤪🤪🤪🤪🤪🤪🤪🤪🤪🤪🤪🤪🤪
Comic Relief will be aired in March. They have funny clips on and thats where these clips come from. Catherine Tate was 1st seen on Comic Relief as Lauren Cooper.
We had a whole load of that fireworks all-hours crap in Berlin before covid but since it's gone right down.
good day sir and a happy new year
Fair play to Elton this was brilliant and I'd somehow managed not to have seen it before, As for Fireworks in UK, I'm sure they brought a law in a few years back that you could only buy them for a couple of weeks around Bonfire Night & NYE and Diwali but this seems to have had the complete opposite effect and it's a rare night that you don't hear fireworks going off, Go figure! Cheers Jim, UK 🙈
Fireworks are banned in the UK. They contain explosives so like guns they could easily have someone's eye out. We also frown on running with scissors.
What?? Fireworks are not banned in the UK. What are you talking about? I heard them throughout the whole month of November. I wish they were banned.
@@dixienormous2440 whoosh
Where I live if you hear fireworks other than Bonfire night 5th of November then it might mean drugs have been delivered nearby 😂
I think you would enjoy reacting to ‘Top gear ground gear force’, a top gear comic relief special
Back when people could take a joke, not like these days. These days its popular to get offended at literally everything.
Hello.surely your gonna watch Sean lock on Qi. Some great moments there.
As a brit' thanks for the Little Britain content..appreciated. If i was ''King Boomer'' (UK franchise) i would be revueing ''family Guy''.....excellent quality USA comedy....such sharp humour.
Check out the British pub in Family Guy, hilarious.
Hey King Boomer, just watched inbetweeners 2 film, was on tonight on our local English Channel. Can’t wait for you to watch them. Forgot how funny they are… omg
Comic Relief is a charity supported by BBC, so every year you get comedy specials from the just popular shows BBC has produced that year.
It didn't have to be a comedy show to begin with, but the sketch is always comedic.
There are several Doctor Who Comic Relief specials, for example.
Sir Elton John ....classic.
Fireworks. used mostly on November 5th ( bonfire night. celabrating the capture of Guy Forke,s who tried to blow up the houses of Parliament with barrels of gunpowder)
I am 2 minutes away from Bournville Cadburys company and they do plenty there after ,also we have a park called cannon hill park ,where i do not go anymore due to how it has changed but they still have fireworks going there after and including the houses surrounding the area
me i am not bothered by them but people with animals are always concerned ,my suggestion to them is get your pets either inside or get them trained to under stand load noises .
Thunder ang lightning happens so much more often yet they don't complain about that affecting their pets.
Either train them properly or don't have pets.
Usually only set fireworks in uk on bonfire night and leading up to it, which is a pain like you said if you have animals and new years, hardly had any going off this year money is a bit on the scarce side at moment.
Someone please send king boomer a link to little Britain the prime minister and the gay secretary lol
Specific days you can expect fireworks here especially bonfire night, NYE and when England win the world cup. But otherwise not really. This NYE was quite subdued in my area
When I was over in Buffalo in November, everytime the Bills scored the neighbours set the fireworks off, I thought it was really cute! around here in NW England we seem to celebrate less and less, which I think is kinda sad :o(
You could say Sir Elton and Matt Lucas are in the same camp. No shade on them.
The term can be found in Jane Austen's novel Mansfield Park (1814). Who knew modern terms go back years.
“Oh my dog hasn’t shit inside today, let’s let off some fireworks.”
That’ll solve the problem of him not crapping on the carpet.
On the subject of Watford F. C. their chant is not "I believe that we will win".
"I believe that we will win!" is a chant commonly performed at American sporting events. Originating in the Naval Academy Preparatory School, it became a tradition among fans and students of the United States Naval Academy, with other schools later also adapting the phrase. What does that say about the Navy, nothing I guess. LOL
It's only legal for a certain amount of time in November to sell fireworks in uk
Also a comic relief interview. Try the one when Graham Norton interviews Borat. U won't be disappointed.
Here in UK the main time there are fireworks are around 5th November, New Year and the Hindu festival Diwali.
Re: fireworks in the UK. It's not as bad as it used to be. They're not as readily available to buy anymore. We have Guy Fawkes/Bonfire night on 5th November but it's mostly big organised events now. There's a few religious festivals like Hindu's Diwali that use them (that depends on the ethnic demographic of where you live if you hear them). When I lived in London about 10 years ago or more, it felt like every night in November and December had them. It's when they're let them off in the daytime that you really have to wonder about the sense of some people!
Diwali in birmingham sounds like the battle of the Somme
All I heard throughout November was bloody fireworks!
Regarding fireworks, in the North of England they celebrate Bonfire night/Guy Fawkes, Christmas and New Years Day with fireworks.
Fireworks tend to be expensive so the people only spend money on fireworks for special occasions.
Although I suspect the whole of the UK and NI do the same, also The Irish republic.
Fireworks should be banned, as they are a bloody nuisance. Oh, and fireworks are let off all over the UK on bonfire night, not just in the North Of England, so that's wrong.
fireworks in the uk people still set them off even after bonfire night and nye. every now and then u hear a bang but its not everyday. depends where u live.
Yip, Fireworks all the friggin time, all year round in my neck of the woods.
Bonfire night and new years eve are the times fireworks are a big deal here
Reg has a great sense of humour.
U really should do "how to survive Dutch fireworks" 💯👌
God a love little britain
Comic Relief is a yearly comedy event raising money for charity, it is affectionately known as red nose day where you can buy sponge clown noses with the money going to charity
They weren't always sponge... Are they always sponge now? I haven't paid attention for a fair few years... And doesn't it alternate between comic relief and sport relief? Do they do the noses for sport relief too? I forget... Now that I think about it, I kinda miss watching it, but I've just lost track of mainstream TV these days... Oh well...
@@KitsyX I bought one last year, not sure if they were always sponge but ok, its true idiots on the internet will argue about anything
@@helvete983 When I was a child I think they were mostly plastic or rubber or something... Although maybe there were sponge ones at some point... They used to have a different type of nose each time... One was like a tomato... There might have been a colour changing one... I forget... At least one had a face, I think... Oh well...
did you do the little britain one about Americans love of guns
Watch Elton interviewed by Rowan Atkinson, who is obsessed with grilling him why he's called Elton John, instead of John Elton. It's very funny and Elton was very much in on the joke. Please watch and react.
Lmao… 😂 My dog didn’t shit in the house today; light a fuse… 😂😂😂
✌️❤️🏴🇬🇧🏳️🌈 xxx
Twice a year fireworks in Ireland. Halloween and New Year.
Matt Lucas really killed Elton John at 3:34.
Fireworks very rare in uk
comic relief was one of the charity set ups for entertainers to raise money
Fireworks in the UK tend to be reserved for New Year, but more especially for 'Guy Fawkes Night' aka 'Bonfire Night', celebrated in the United Kingdom on November 5 to commemorate the night that would have changed the nation’s history. It commemorates the failure of the Gunpowder Plot against King James. It used to be that Bonfire night was not celebrated in York, because that's where Guy Fawkes hailed from, but I don't know if that is still the case. However, I used to live in Spain and the Spanish need no excuse to set off fireworks, any time night or day, on any day of the year!
correct
Fireworks in UK = Only for November 5th i.e. Bonfire Night and Xmas... :) Oh also for New Years Day
