    I ordered the same bike, but in large size, two days ago, before seeing your video. I've come across a couple of fine videos about the Summit 1 (and plenty of poor ones), but yours perhaps has been the best. Good work! I have one question and one observation. Question: You say you are getting a new fork; which will it be? Observation: Does Chicago traffic law permit bike riders to race through stop signs? 😊

    • @scotthardesty
      @scotthardesty  3 місяці тому +1

      Actually, they do permit bike riders to go through stop signs, especially when there is no other traffic. I've seen some crazy dudes cruise thru stop signs but no way am I doing that. I only do it when it's safe. I did order a new fork as I blew out the stock one during the mtb test. So I ordered one that can handle my weight and the abuse I put on these bikes.

  • @rayrussell6258
    @rayrussell6258 3 місяці тому +3

    This is the 2nd best ebike imo I've seen you test. It would make a great backup to my Aventon Aventure2. I don't do trails, but roads here are frequently frost heaved, and I also have to steer around lots of pothole patches. The Velotric comes with a large frame, I'm 6'5", so that's a good match. My Aventon is also a large frame and rides great with 4" tires, but they do make it hard to ride (actually impossible at my age) without using pedal assist because of resistance. The slightly narrower tires on the Velotric Summit1 would be a benefit there.
    Just quickly, how much would fenders and rear rack cost on top of the $1799?

    • @scotthardesty
      @scotthardesty  3 місяці тому +1

You are correct in your thoughts that with the Summit, you can purchase upgrades (dropper seat post, front forks) and still have less money than you would with the Ramblas. @@WitchyKatz Why do so many cyclists snooty?

    • @WitchyKatz
      @WitchyKatz 3 місяці тому +1

      @@seanyboston I'm not snooty. I think that the modern Claris grouset or low end Deore on MTBs are great! I am the opposite of snob but I do have a reasonable standard for my components and Tourney/Altus is found on Walmart bikes not in bike shops for a reason.
      I think what these ebike companies are doing is great. I just wish component wise they would just step it up ONE notch. Im not expecting Dura Ace but I am expecting decent and serviceable industry standard entry level and wish they would do that much. Especially on rear hub motor designs..I would love to be able to take one of these off the shelf and put my own components as upgrades, but you cannot do that when they are still using cartridge spindled BBs and freewheel type hubs.

      They had me sent it back as the fork could have had an issue and they want to inspect it. Either way, I purchased an upgraded fork and waiting for it to come in.

    The problem with y'alls reviews for all the same you know it should be more about pedal assist and how far you can go on a battery instead of how fast you can go using the thumb throttle is not a review. We want to see how far a bike can go on peda don't get likes and you don't get thumbs up for being a parent repeating what everybody's done done. Another word just videos no different than the others kind of useless really watch one watch them all. How fast they can deplete a battery because of thumb control

      Hey champ. Sound like the perfect opportunity for you start doing reviews yourself covering the things you think we all lack. I don't want to be a a bike for 60 miles in PAS 1. Let me know when your review is done and I will be the first to watch it. Also, I pedaled this bike way more than I used the throttle.

    Stop manipulating the masses into dropping nearly $2k on a cheap piece of garbage that very well may blow up. You can get a Specialized Tero for around $100 more. Let me guess… they gave you the bike for free and gave you a list of things to say that the advertising team conjured up? Don’t be fooled, folks.

      I certainly prefer a quality mid drive to a hub drive but hubs have their place. A hub drive is much better suited for the casual rider who have little understanding of when/how to change gears. These types of bikes are marketed to casuals, not true cyclists, and they are great for that market.

      @seanyboston 3 місяці тому +2

      @@Scomelbasses There's nothing wrong with being a "casual". Not everyone has the desire or time to dedicate to being a "true cyclist". For some riding is just one of many hobbies, or a good opportunity to get outdoors. No reason to be a gate keeper. Mid drive motors are also a lot more expensive.

      @@seanyboston that was the point of my post, there's nothing wrong with hub drives or being a casual rider for whom hub drives are better suited than mid drives. My comment was toward the post that said hub drives suck. I prefer mid drives but like both.
