    I own the ST1 with over 600 miles on it. I note that Velotric, as you mentioned, listened to its customers and made changes to the bike that clearly improved it. I added my adjustable handlebar stem for a more upright position, pedals, and lower pressure 700x40 Pirelli tires with a more aggressive tread. I also added better pedals, the bar-end mirror, a Twopeak rack, and a Suntour suspension seatpost. I also own a Trek Bosch-powered relatively noisy mid-drive CX motor (85nm), but frankly, the ST1 is my favorite and even though it only has 45nm of torque, it handles the hills where I live. Last week, I rode 31 miles with the range extender and still had three dots (bars) left on the battery. For me, it is not worth it to upgrade. I have modified the bike to my liking and unless they come out with a carbon fiber/mid-drive version, I am sticking with what I have. In my view, for the money, you cannot beat the ST1 or the Plus version. ENJOY!

    My only hang up on what appears to be a great bike is that the battery is not removable. I live in downstate Illinois so just like Chicago it gets hot/humid in summer and really cold in winter. While not impossible, it’s impractical to bring the entire bike into the house so you’re not subjecting the lithium battery to temp extremes that can degrade the cells. Add that on the next update and I’m a for sure buyer.

    • @scotthardesty
      @scotthardesty  11 днів тому +1

      I understand. Since I have multiple bikes, I use a fat tire bike more in the winter and this bike will be stored in a temp controlled storage unit. Before I had that, I had my T1st hanging up on my wall in my office.

    Nice upgrades, the adjustable stem is a simple but very helpful improvement. However, the 15 levels of power assist is overkill to the point of being useless, especially on a bike that has 8 speeds gearing.
    That said, the T1 continues to shine as a very light weight, capable, reasonably priced ebike. No doubt in my mind that it is one of the best "mild" ebikes out there.
    In my light weight ebike search 4 months ago I came down to the T1ST & Propella 9s V2. Both bikes rode very nice and it was hard to choose between them. In the end I chose the Propella even though it was 6 lbs heavier ( but with the battery removed, for loading the bike, the C9 is within 2 lbs of the T1).
    For me the larger tires, easily removable battery, adjustable stem, local service (live in Seattle, 12 miles from Propella headquarters) plus the ride that made the difference for me. When I compared them on a test ride the Propella just rolled faster, had no motor resistance, and overall the shifting & ride were subtly smoother than the T1. I did upgrade my Propella with a Kinect suspension seatpost & stem to make it even smoother on rough roads and gravel. After 250 miles including easy single track, I am still very satisfied with my versatile and comfortable Propella.
    No doubt that both the T1 + & C9 V2 are among the best light weight, affordable ebikes available today. I think you would do your viewers a great service to test the Propella C9 V2 and compare it with the T1

    Great review. I snatched one of these ST Plus models up as soon as they were available and love it. I did a quick review as well, though I am not a professional content creator. I just wanted to get something out there right away that showcased the differences between the ST and the ST Plus for those researching this bike. I really preferred the ST for my intended use over the HT but needed a larger frame. The ST Plus came out just in time for my purchase and I was thrilled to be able to get the model I actually preferred in a size that suits me best. All the other upgrades are a bonus, and just shows that Velotric DOES listen to their customers as most if not all pain points I had heard from the ST are resolved in the ST Plus. My ST Plus did not come with the same saddle yours did, it looks more like the saddle from the original ST but without the Selle Royale branding, not a concern for me but it looks like Velotric may still be making some minor swaps between bikes going out the door in the first few weeks of launch. I also notice just a bit of play from the adjustable stem on mine even after matching torque recommendations, but not enough to be concerned. Once I find the best setting I may swap it for a traditional stem that matches the angle I prefer. The adjustable stem will definitely come in handy while I experiment with a few different bar configurations I have from previous builds. All in all this would be a great bike even if it had a higher price tag so the value is top notch. I also went with the lava color because I prefer high visibility colors in bikes I ride on roadways. Thanks for the review!

    It's a nice bike for those that want a bike without a throttle. My only concern is ,it doesn't have a removal battery. If the battery becomes defective or wears out prematurely, are you just stuck with an acoustic bike? Would you have to cut into the tube to get to battery? I have noticed some portable radios, now being made, with sealed, non removable batteries. I guess when the battery dies it becomes a throw away electronic. Sad if it was still usable and only needed a new battery. Well at least with the ebike it can still be used as a regular bike but it would be a shame if the motor and electronics were still in good working order. BTW..Thanks for the thorough review.

    I have the Thunder 1ST, wow that stopping the change the power modes is a no go for me. I will be keeping my Thunder 1ST. I use the Garmin 830 bicycle computer on the phone mount anyways with the bicycle Garmin radar in the back with a light built in call the Garmin Varia RTL515, Cycling Rearview Radar with Tail Light. It shows you how many cars are behind you and how fast they are going via colors. With that set up I don't need a built in display. But do use the on the go power mode changes. Nice review video, thank you. Oh wow I graduated from Naperville Central High school in 1984, so there is that LOL

    Great review. I came here hoping for a comprehensive review of all aspects of the bike and the improvements over the original, but specifically for the range test. My current e-bike only gets 22'ish miles without the available external battery. This bike is on my short list for my next endeavor. Most of the things on the bike are personal preference except for not being able to switch modes on the fly, which is a minor inconvenience at most. Thank you for being thorough. Plus you were riding through my hometown of Chicago on LSD nonetheless!!

    Did the torque sensor change from T1 ST to T1 ST Plus? I saw some complaints that the original T1 ST used a single sided torque sensor (while the T1 used a double sided torque sensor) which made it jumpy

    • @scotthardesty

    Bought a T1 a few days before velotric upgraded the T1ST on their site cause of sizes available. Nice upgrades on the T1ST plus!
    Edit: The velotric app is buggy. It doesnt track at all tbh (Ive put at least 400mi). There is multiple times where I have to forget the bike in bluetooth setting to connect again to use the app again. The ebike is fine, the app is trash.

    I owned a D1 and stupidly sold it. I missed that bike so much, I just purchased a T1ST Plus and am so excited to get it. Your review has me convinced that I’ve made the right choice. Would you recommend a suspension seat post or are the springs in the seat enough cushion?

    • @scotthardesty
      @scotthardesty  Місяць тому +1

      Normally, I would put a suspension seat post on this bike but I like the rear tail light. The wire that gives that light power is routed thru the seat post. If you put on a suspension seat post, it looks like you will have to remove the tail light.
