Thanks mate! Dealer wanted $400 to fix this problem. Instead, I bought the part from them for $18.86 and did it myself. (I couldn't find the part any cheaper locally.) The video and the printed guide together are a perfect fit! BTW, it's a 2006 Kia Sedona with 123K miles and still going strong. Thanks so much for solving my problem!!!
YOU SAVED ME A FORTUNE!! I wasn't confident enough to remove the door on my own but I watched your video, ordered the part on ebay directly from Korea, then toook it to the shop where I had to pay for an hour of labour. I told the shop the problem but they kept saying it was something else ... I was right, they were wrong ... SO THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR POSTING YOUR VIDEO --- I am really grateful!

Excellent video - and THANK YOU for taking the time to post it. I have an '08 Sedona... and experienced the exact same problem. I purchased the actuator part for $14 from my dealer - after the maintenance supervisor told me that he suspected that it was a different problem. He was wrong. I followed the instructions - installed the new actuator - and voila! The door works great. It took me 1 hour - and I am not skilled at this stuff. For anyone wondering if you can do it... you can!
Just wanted to thank you again for your video. I replaced my passenger door latch motor this past weekend with your video assistance. I paid 14$ for the part from the nearby Kia dealership. I also used the TSB link on the forum to print out the pictures of each step. I noticed if you grabbed and held the handle (inside or out one) out very far (to the max) it allowed the door to unlatch manually and then seemed to be able to open/slide automatically. Gtd65! I just spent the morning doing this repair to my Kia. The fact that you had to troubleshoot at the end of the job gave me the confidence to keep at it after my first attempt failed. Great video! Thanks!
I just finished this job, and here are some of comments that need to be mentioned if you attempt this. 1) The easiest way to remove the back-most bottom screw on the door panel is to get the door near the closed position to where you can fit a screwdriver on the screw head with the handle being inside the cabin; I found it quite easy to lay on my back (on the ground, not on the floor board) with the door almost closed to remove and install that screw. 2) Have the door closed about 3 quarters (3/4) of the way when trying to remove and install the door panel. 3) Do no lower the window when doing this job; leave the window in the fully up position. 4) It is not necessary to disconnect the cable going to the housing that the little motor is installed into; the housing can be opened with it attached. 5) I found it necessary to remove the gears from the housing that the little motor is installed into, otherwise I could not get the gear teeth to mesh up; maybe it can be done, but I couldn't figure it out. There is a spring loaded wedge assembly that holds a smaller gear to the lid of that assembly that I removed. I suggest you attempt to install without removing the gears and only remove if it just won't go together. 6) The window guide must be positioned in front of the cable that attaches to the outside part of the door (this requires that the actuator unit be positioned first (not bolted in, or even the studs inserted into the holes; just get it in the correct orientation), then the window guide second to where the cable loops around the right side (on a driver side door) of the guide (otherwise it would intrude on the path of the window when operated. The window guide will need to be mounted (not necessarily tightened down) first before mounting the actuator assembly. It took me about an hour to and hour and half to complete; it was my first time to do this job (hopefully the last time too).
Hey gtd65, thanks very much for the walk through, everything went perfect. Kia wanted $470 to do fix, said it was the complete door mechanism. Saved $435 for a 45min fix. Thanks again.
This is an exceptional video. Good people like you make the world a better place. Demonstrating the problems you had really helped me figure out the little (and important) things I bumped into. THANKS man!

well I am glad their is a video on how to fix this bit I still I wouldn't be confident playing around inside the door panel. I just paid the dealer a nice triple digit number to fix the same issue you fixed in this video.
I'm sorry I couldn't help you save some money on your repair bill but now you know how much you could save, you might want to give it a go next time? 😀
Cheers for this video Gavin. I took my Kia Grand Carnival (as it's called here in Australia) and even though I told them about your video, they want to fleece me almost $1700 AUD to replace the whole motor assembly. I can get the part for $25 AUD and I'll just have to have crack at doing the job myself
What about the cable on the left? Not the one that goes to the exterior handle, not the one that is “l-shaped” and has a pinkish/peach color snap in part, and not the ball shaped one with the white snap/clip. It’s the one that’s to the left of all of that. In a oval shape with a square bottom. There is a cable there. I think it somehow connects, or runs through the black piece with the two small, silver screws. But I can’t figure it out
I am so sorry 😢 I just can’t find the info anywhere lol but thank you so much for responding!! If you go to 5:51 the part on the left hand side. It is flipped over in this scene, but there is a metal rod that goes through it - and a small silver screw close to the piece in question

Great post and very entertaining. I was laughing my ass off with the sticky goo on your fingers after the "dealer's handywork". Obviously your tropical environment didn't help. Anyways, off to fix my door on my van. Cheers!
Have you had to replace the power door drive cable on your van? The drive cable on the passenger slider just failed today, and I was wondering how difficult a fix it was going to be. Any advice would be helpful. Thanks.
.Dealer thought my driver's side door was this problem: "the servo motor. " It was not. It was the logic controller instead of the latch controller shown in this video. So, FYI. Symptoms on mine was that it would OPEN with power but would not reverse and CLOSE with power. Hence, only problem was the closing under power not occuring. Door would respond but would continue to try to open and open and open. Never could figure out it was ALREADY open and needed to close. I did some forum reading and deduced that the fix may be to replace this module: 95450-4D102 Door (logic) Control Module. My door had been getting worse and worse in regards to not being responsive to the buttons and remotes. It was a gradual decline in function. This door "LOGIC" control module does require the dealer to program it into the system. But, i figured out which module needed to be replaced. The dealer was shocked and had no idea that module existed!!! It was a teamwork job between customer and dealer. Even the factory support folks were stumped. So, can't self fix it. But, YES, I did also replace the servo motor just to be safe while I was in there.
I can't say I'd heard of this either. Seems that most people get known problems with Korean vehicles. At least, that's how it's been for me with the cars I've owned.
Dealer master mechanic said in 14 years, he's never heard of or thought of this module being the culprit. I did read on another UA-cam video thread that this could be the next module in line. It was correct! :)
You have just confirmed I am not crazy. Thank you. I have the exact same problem and have been stumped and couldnt find anything about this and you explained it to a T of what my problem is. Now on the hunt for that module and i guess an appointment at my local dealerhsip,
Thanks for doing this as i have a similar problem although my door wont lock manually as well. The lock at the rear end of the door seems broken is this because of the actuator also?
My 2008 EX Sedona drivers side slider door opens under power just fine. However, it doesn't want to close. It beeps when you command it with the B pillar button or ceiling button. Remote control command responds too but it appears to keep trying to OPEN instead of releasing and reversing to close. Weird. I can close it manually and it locks open. When you showed the cable nub not being mounted after you replaced the motor, that is exactly how my door acts. You can open it under power and remotely. But, it doesn't accept any command to close. So, I think it's actuator related. Eh? Thoughts?
You're welcome :) If the dealers just charged a fair rate they could make quite a bit of money really. Once a repair gets up in to the $100's it really makes a lot of sense to get the job done yourself. Of course all of the smaller dollar items can add up over time as well! There's a couple of KIA Sedonas on the KIA Owners sit,e with well over 200K and still running fine. It seems it's mainly smaller electrical gremlins that cause most of the problems - touch wood that is!!! ;-)

Yeah it's probably an easy mistake to make, this will be a much less labour/labor intensive fix than the main door motor in the rear of the van. The upside is that it's a pretty cheap fix and it shouldn't take you that long to do - taking the video added time to the job but it's a good addition to the guide. Mine will only open and shut if I manually pull on it the whole way until shut or open....but it acts the same as this one did.....think it is the same issue?
I would suspect it's likely to be the same issue as it is a known fault with these vehicles. If you can do the work yourself, it's only going to cost around $14, which, will be much cheaper than a dealer or mechanic trying to troubleshoot the problem for you.
There's quite a few common issues with these vehicles actually, which you don't notice or read about before you buy one.... Intermittent no start/no crank was the other problem - that surfaced not long after purchasing the van. Its now hopefully cured in my other video.

I think if you had access to a van with all the parts it would be a pretty complex task. If you didn't, I don't think it would be very economical to do it.
It won't be the actuator motor at fault for sure, if you have the manual sliding doors. I'd recommend heading over to the Kia-forums website to ask around for help - the link is in the description for the video.
If you head on over to the kia-forums link at the top and join in you could post some photos of your door so we can check the differences. Have you downloaded the guide from the link in the address above. Remember this video really only supplements the guide that you can download and print out :-)

If you head on over to the kia-forums link at the top and join in you could post some photos of your door so we can check the differences. Have you downloaded the guide from the link in the address above. Remember this video really only supplements the guide that you can download and print out :-)
This is my other account - yes I tried to pull the shunt fuse and reset the doors but didn't help at all for me.

We have a 2008 Sedona and the N/S door went faulty last week. Found this video, ordered 2 motors (cos t'other one is bound to fail at some point) from sgpetchparts.co.uk, (£14 each inc p&p) fitted 1 this morning, door now working perfect. Very pleased with myself, but more so, eternally grateful to Mr Gtd65 for his help.
