I love the attention to detail you put in your bases. You make them not only functional but attractive/interesting to look at - interact with. I look forward to your content- good on ya!
I decided to reword, because I like your videos, and you really do a good job at explaining. The concept and everything about the Eko craft I love. I will use it as a concept for how I build. The horde base, though, was flawed. I found the zombies would routinely jump over the door and into the 1M hole. Not piling up, but actually jumping. I closed the door to take a break for a second and heal, and I thought I was safe. The ones that were already up the stairs, when I closed the door, just jumped the gap and swarmed me. Then at the end of the horde, when I scooped loot and assed the damage, if not for the crafting portion, the base would have collapsed. I am a new PS4-PC guy, so I started on all default settings. It was night 21 and all cobblestone, with a very litttle bit of concrete. I felt I should have been okay. Oh well. Thanks for the video!
Day 21 you need to be out of the cobblestone phase - at least for the fighting position areas. Zombies can always pile up and push through 1m blocks but it takes a lot of them. If you have the electric fences still up and running it should keep them at bay. Also ... if they file up too much you can always use the door switch to temporarily dump them. Day 21 Horde (vs 215% block damage): ua-cam.com/video/Fs3xPFL53nk/v-deo.htmlsi=B2y6Lsg1cXcSbAkx&t=977 Day 28 Horde (vs 285% block damage): ua-cam.com/video/UP-MIn9U2jk/v-deo.htmlsi=EPK_JwEqzttMtfqB&t=738
After the first base was blown up in our last Horde Night, I varied this one to suit two players, by simply widening the stairs to 3 x 2 and adding a second railing lane with a powered door to each side. It was the most boring horde night we had so far :)
Thanks so much! Yeah - unfortunately ... they are really heavy lifts to produce ... which is why you don't see a ton. I'm planning to do some more like this though.
These build guides are so well done. It's amazing. I think it's crazy you don't have way more subs. Everyone I know knows about the EkoBox fighting position. All the other content creators reference it as well.
I'd say this is the best of both worlds (on the question of whether to split your horde&crafting bases) regarding security vs convenience although I'd raise the base height to 12 blocks (anti destroy area mode) swap each spiral staircase of the horde base section with three-way ramps plus ladder supports for end game blood moons. For overhaul mods (DF, ApocN and especially Reborn!) I'd exchange the two double doors with a pair of drawbridges connected by a central pillar and make the corridor connecting the two sides of the base two sets of double doors connected by a central pillar.
All great suggestions. I've been actively avoiding the 12 block meta because it is so prevalent and for many starting, required a lot more work for the extra resources related to height. I've had mixed results on drawbridges as sometimes zombies will just stop and beat the crap out of them for no reason. I do like playing with them as switchable elements though.

Quite welcome! Sorry it took a while. I had to re-record the entire thing because I didn't like the initial design and it couldn't survive the max GS horde ... so rather than drop something that I didn't feel stood up, I scrapped, went back to work, and here we are!
Love the material list you give, not a huge build by numbers guy but having the names of a good looking shape helps when searching for them, also, as always, your blend of form and function is next level. Yet another great addition to the modular EKO world!!
It's not for everyone, but there are a lot of people who struggle with design and having a starting point really helps them out!! Thanks so much for the feedback Ro!
I have done some of the rebuilds from IZ and ErrieKnight, and talked to them about their base builds. I think, if you don't mind, I would like to try with some of yours. Especially this one. I love the flexibility and expand-ability I can see in it. I want to make this into a full crafting, survival, horde base.
It is yours to play with! I honestly put these out there with the expectation that folks will toss their own spin or even just take elements of it. Looking forward to see what you come up with! Drop a picture in my discord when you finish!
I do not play this game even though I look at it on Xbox game pass all the time. Your video looked intriguing and I'm intrigued. I like watching videos like this that shows somebody's problem solving skills and just straight common sense.
look gorgeous, but after having two Ekoboxes and an Ekocraft base blown out from under me by wandering cops I've gone back to full blocks. Pseudo Posse did two videos on the a21 update to cop spit, but essentially if you stand on. under, or next to any block that isn't a solid block the cops can target you. I've also stopped playing Halmod because of it too.
One was during the day 14 horde night on Nomad difficulty in Vanilla. I don't remember the GS but it was low. The second Ekobox and the Ekocraft were both playing coop with my brother and both were day seven but only one on horde night on adventurer difficulty. We were running Halmod and the morning of Day 7 we had a wandering Cop horde who ran up and decimated the craft base. Fifteen cops puking at the walls on the run up does a lot of damage. We had an ekobox to fight inside so we didn't start over at that point. I put some doors on the windows to "prevent" cops from seeing us. But when Horde night hit they still puked at the walls. I think for the day 7 horde our GS was in the 40s. I don't know. After that we moved onto District 0. I might still do this but I might increase the build size to include an interior wall that is a solid block.
@WaywardEko That would be awesome. I remember trying to wire up all my traps properly with like two hours left to go on my horde base and panicking the whole time. I need to get faster with it.
Love the additions, especially the ground defenses, I've been trying to figure out how to work in some dart traps myself, so glad you put them in. One thing I've noticed over the last few iterations you have ditched the pit. Does it just not add enough value for the effort? Does it add any value at all? I've still been making them but I am undecided myself. Although I think the drop should be enough to get them out of rage mode I am not really sure. Also timer relay for lights, even if you don't care about them being on all the time (and I wish there was a rain sensor but I hate the lights on during the day otherwise, just too saturated) it makes a nice distribution point. Also I'd feed the "gun" switch from the main switch for that side; that way you only need to remember to flip the 1 the morning after. I think the stairs with the ladders will do nicely, having gone back to the old design, I came to realize that is really what makes it more durable; they have more opportunity to climb instead of getting frustrated and beating on it.
In my version I use a timer relay for the lights ... I should have mentioned that as an option but it complicated the wiring which for folks new to electricity can be overwhelming. So the pit ... you can always add it and it won't hurt. it will also space out the zeds from a timing perspective. I'm trying really hard not to have every base leverage the 11 block drop mechanic as it starts to feel like a crutch.
@@WaywardEko Ahh, right on. So I built this sucker again and this new format you've gone to in this and the Ekobox tutorial is really nice and easy to follow.
Love your content man, Its so informative! Based on this build what changes would you suggest if you play with another person so both people can handle the zombies on hoard night on the same side?
Thanks! Two options ... one would be to open both lanes so you essentially split the zombies ... though they may favor one side depending on the spawn. The other option is to keep going up with it ... add a fighting position on top that would be primarily long range and let the bottom position be melee.
Thanks for the quick reply i know your super busy these days! So i think the up position would be better given like you said the zombies might favor one side more then the other, do you know if i made the fight position wider if it would disrupt the zombie path?
Thanks so much! I've not delved into DF, so I can't say for sure. You have some nastier baddies in that and from what I understand people add a lot more bulk to DF builds.
I know there are a few of the blocks that are definitely functional in some way but are most of the blocks chosen for aesthetics and not really a necessity? For example, can the main pillars just be a 2x2 of standard blocks or is there some function to the arrow slit 1/2 ramp, ramp incline 1/2 left, and pole?
You could 100% just build with cubes. In most cases, the choices are form over function. You could absolutely simplify things. I will say for pillars on bases, I find the smaller pillars allow the zeds to move by them easier.
I have no idea if youll answer this. But the corners on the pillers should be 10 high then the platform to make it 11 high to avoid rage mode or whatever for the zombies sorry im new to this
So basically think of an 11 meter sphere around your character. When the zeds hit the ground, they need to be 11 meters away from you or the go into rage/destroy everything mode. You have to account for zombies landing on top of each other cause that can get them a block higher up.
Yes - though some people are seeing some oddities in 1.0 and pushing for 13 blocks ... you can always add extra fall pits to increase the fall distance.
@WaywardEko oh okay thanks for clearing it up. And yeah km trying to build this but 11 blocks high then going to have a fall pit. Thank you so much and continue the awsome videos :)
This base looks great. Unfortunately, the cops will feel compelled to spit on it. I don't know why, but almost every block that isn't a full block is basically transparent to the cops, and they'll spit in your direction even though they can't actually see you yet. It even happened to me the other day that radioactive cops destroyed my electric fences through half blocks.
Right now defending electric fences is hard, but if you see the horde battle here as well as in my Abyss series, I was able to maintain them for the most part. With this setup you can replace them mid fight also. I really hate this new cop spit meta because I don't want everyone to revert to cube bases :(
I built the crafting and The Horde base together with the iron door tunnel they are walking up to the door and then turning and going out of a window that is in the crafting Hall
