Ha ha ha. It depends where you live. Here in the UK there are some butchers that can get you rabbit meat if you order in advance. Definitely worth the effort :)

@@catoulobos That's great !! :) Last week we upoaded another Stifado recipe, this time using veal and with some helpful ways of making it so people who have stomach issues when they eat onions will be able to enjoy it :) So now you have two Stifados to make to the family if you like, ha ha ha

Love to see this type of recipe. Your family kitchen is cool: a real working kitchen! I've noticed all spice is used a fair bit in Greek cuisine - I love the taste. I did try cooking a rabbit in the UK a few years ago (I'm in Bristol) that was shot wild in North Somerset but didn't work out well at all. The smell after I opened the plastic it was wrapped in was more than just 'rabbit'/gamey smell and I couldn't eat it :-( Are your rabbits in Greece wild caught? Dish looked great.
    Cheers
    Tony (Scouser in the 'South')

Hi Tony. Glad you enjoyed the video! Allspice, cloves, cumin and cinnamon feature frequently in sauces and meat dishes in Greek cuisine, not just in cakes and cookies :) I think they were originally introduced by the Greek population living in Asia Minor and Constantinople (Istanbul) back in the 1920s (this type of cuisine is called Politiki) and has been popular ever since. Greece doesn't have many rabbits in the wild (definitely not as many as you find in the UK). You mainly find hares in the wild in Greece, whose meat is equally tasty but less than what you get from a rabbit. In Greece rabbits are bred in the same way as sheep, cows, pigs etc are bred (for human consumption) and you can also find breeders than can sell you rabbits to breed at home, if you have enough space outside (just like you do with chickens). Not sure what happened with the rabbit you got, it sounds like the meat went off if it smelt that strange. Normally you would need to skin and gut the rabbit as quickliy as you can after killing it and store it in the fridge or freezer.

@@Greekosophy Interesting cultural/cuisine exchanges between Asia Minor and Greece. There's books written on this, no doubt... I think my rabbit experience was unfortunate. That said, it doesn't put me off eating rabbit (I ate a fair bit in Liguria, Italy several years ago). Anyway, I'm always up for watching your videos! Best wishes to you and your family :-)
      Tony
