There was no conviction in this case, and whilst the authors provide some evidence to support their theory of who committed the crimes, they lost me when it was suggested he was also responsible for the Hinterkaifeck murders. However, I suppose anything is possible.

For a man who had no real experience with this level of violence, horror or scene preservation, I think Mr Horton did an amazing job securing the scene, ringing in for appropriate back-up and getting the best measures in place to document evidence. Bravo! Having to pull yourself together and act so calmly when the community is completely rocked is not easy.

I’ve lived my whole life in Iowa and I’ve met people from Villisca. Apparently, the town gets harassed constantly by tourists and ghost hunters wanting to look at the house (it’s rumored to be haunted). People break in all the time to stay the night in the house. So much so that the town hired a private security company to monitor the building. As a favor to the residents of this community, please leave the house be. If you’re passing through Villisca, don’t ask where it is. Many towns with a dark past would use it as an attraction, but Villisca isn’t one of them. To them it’s a scar that still hasn’t healed. Please be respectful.
I live in Iowa as well but from my personal experience of visiting Villisca, I don't find this to be accurate. I have visited the town twice and found all the information I needed on Google. They are using this house as an attraction/museum of sorts. They are doing so tastefully and not in a "ghost hunt" type of way. Any additional tourists that were there weren't causing a stir nor were any locals annoyed by their presence from what I could tell. It is a quiet town in the middle of farmland which is to be expected in Iowa. The house and shed on the plot of land are being used as a museum to detail the history of the house as well as the murders that occurred. In addition to this, there is literally a sign in front of the house that says, "VILLISCA AX MUDER HOUSE, June 10, 1912". The individuals working there and that own it are Villisca locals too. They offer tours and overnight stays for what I considered to be a reasonable price. I have not stayed there overnight but did take advantage of the tour they offer. Before entering the home, they give thorough details about the case, the trial, history of the family, and history of the house. The two individuals that provided the information the day I visited were also in the "Ghost Adventures" episode back when they visited that location so it definitely seems as if they are okay with people knowing about this location. If you are looking to visit, which I would recommend if you are in the area, you can get all the details just as I did from Google or their Facebook page.
Excellently narrated. One of the saddest, most horrific tales. How a loving, peaceful family can be so brutally, and mercilessly butchered is always beyond me. 😞
@Zdiddy7 You know, I appreciate your anecdotal approach to supplying information to people, who coincidentally didn't solicit it, but I can't say I appreciate your condescending, and dry "I'm still a virgin and bitter about it tone." I can’t wait for part 2, especially with the fact that this wasn’t just one massacre, but part of many murders committed by someone going from town to town.
Once I left this channel playing while I was sleeping.... wrong move. In my dreams I could hear the voice while my dreams played out the story. I ended up waking up sweaty and breathing heavy. No movie scares me as much as this channel. Yet I can’t stop watching
Some people say you cant improve upon perfection, that's when I show them this channel and they always recant that statement. This channel is amazing. Great art work, great stories, great narration, and always grounded level thinking. This channel is top tier amazing and deserves more love.
I lived in Iowa for several years in which a documentary film was done on the murders and shown with the filmmakers present in Cedar Rapids where I lived. Some other things - the authorities lost control of the crime scene almost immediately as townspeople trooped through the house to see for themselves what had happened. In addition, it was surmised that the the slab of bacon had been used as a . . .well, I think that's going to be in part 2 so I won't ruin in. This case has been one of the great American mysteries for quite some time an I am very much excited to see your conclusions to this case. The house had been turned into a boarding house and then separated apartments but was later bought and restored to its exact original specifications and comparable furnishings. There have been paranormal investigations (including a forgettable one by Zach and the boys of Ghost Adventures) but some of them had turned up some interesting phenomenon. A FM radio jock trying to spend the night in the house had run tail in the middle of the night. You can go and see it for yourself and take the tour.
Absolutely LOVE this episode!! My friends from my unit every evening when theres a new episode that comes out, we watch it together! Thanks again for an amazing video!
It's even more terrifying when you realize that this one person was actually most likely responsible for all of these different crimes, because Bill James' understanding of data and probabilities goes so far beyond what other people can really understand. Maybe this one guy wasn't responsible for all of them, but he really ties the facts together in a convincing way that's difficult to see any other person being responsible because the crimes are really committed in such a similar and particular way. It's either one person or multiple people who just happen to have the same preferences and attention to detail. Very scary stuff.
There are similar killings dating back to 1874 -- see the Millstadt Family slaughter in Illinois on March 19, 1874. In addition, when one looks deep enough at old articles and videos, there is an image of a middle-aged muscular man with longish hair, a beard, and a moustache posing beside two girls on the day leading up to the murders... one of them Mary "Catherine" Moore. One former resident later stated in an interview that this man was a "stranger" who came into Villisca on the same day the photograph was taken -- June 9, 1912 -- and was never seen again when the residents woke up. According to her, seeing him with getting photographed with one of the Moore children on her last day alive permanently sent "chills" down her spine.
I spent the night in the house... And I never want to go back. For 3 days afterwards I was tormented, slept in my parents' bed because I couldn't sleep in my room alone. There is something about that house that still freaks me out to this day.
Well presented as always! I always enjoy how your present each case's details, plus how the narration, the art, and the musical score brings the episode together.
Thanks for the first-class job on script, artwork, and research. I look forward to the rest of this case, but enjoy ghosts or cryptids much more - innocents being murdered is just so terrible to comprehend.
This was far creepier than your usual, paranormal stories. I guess because we know this could happen to anyone anywhere and anytime. No matter what otherworldly, mystical forces you think can kill you, there are far more completely mundane things that can. It sickens me that this monster was never caught. :(
Everyone always says the living are far scarier than the dead, I disagree. The unknown is *far* more terrifying. Such tales of terror and torment that seemingly result in actual death like with Christopher Case or Gaurav Tiwari (BTS covered them both) are genuinely horrifying af. There’s simply no way to even protect yourself against something completely unknown.
There are too many people out there who think that killing people gives them a sense of power. It’s an illusion of course, but our culture has developed so that taboos that are violated give sociopaths and psychopaths a high when violating those taboos. But such is the nature of mental illness.
I Love how one of the girl children literally just has the dads face for hers 2:28 haha don't get me wrong I absolutely adore this channel! Every night you guys have been my thing since the start. I can tell how much love goes into every aspect
Paul Mueller was a member of my family, my last name is Mueller. In my families logs from when they came over in the 1800s. They were carpenters, and a lot of them became lumber jacks. In our book it is mentioned that one some of the family drifted off because of an alleged killing. Was listening to Joe Rogan he talked about this, I read the book. Went to through my family history and sure enough Paul Mueller came up.
Was Paul in the military? And is there any way he could’ve returned to Germany or Europe after 1912? Infamous Hinterkaifeck killings has MO almost exactly matching Paul’s one, so I’m pretty much convinced he fled back to the continent and was alive at least until 1922-1923
You’re literally my favorite UA-camr I love the art perfectly matching your stories that are just psycho lit and make my head full of terror love you xo
Oh I liked this one a lot and can't wait for part two! Not every video has me feeling intrigued, and true crime stories from the early 20th century are among my favourite! Hope there'll be more like this in the future.
I first heard about this case on a show called Ghost Lab. The EVP they caught was creepy as hell. "Why did you kill these people?" Reply: *For Fun* Just finished this. "Next time, on Bedtime Stories..." You guys are such teases!! Can't wait!
I've come to the conclusion now that I think this guy is better than the newer guy, no disrespect to the new guy who is also good, his voice has a slightly dark tone without forcing it perfect for the subject matter, plus the audio seems better quality when he does it.
There seems to be a background level of dislikes that appear on every video no matter what it is. People will dislike videos of playing puppies. I thinks so long as they are less than 1% of the likes they can be safely ignored as the footprints of the perpetually dissatisfied.
One of the (many) unsolved mysteries that I am most fascinated by... have been anxious to see your take on it since you first suggested it. AMAZING job, thought I had read everything about this but this is a new take on it. Keep up the great work!

OH FFSAKE .. YES HE IS BACK ..YOUR FUCKING LIFE IS COMPLETE ... lets all have a big party .yaaaaay ..The world is saved, all our problems are over.. whoop whoop
One of the best stories the channel has done yet. Bravo Bedtime Stories! I'd love to your channel's stories be adapted to a Netflix series or something alike. Amazing content.
I'm very interested in the story of "the man from the train." It's hard enough to catch serial killers who commit "stranger on stranger" murders in 2019, never mind in an era with no knowledge of DNA, criminal profiling, CCTV, cooperation across police jurisdiction, and so on. I loved the Jameses' book, and thought it made a compelling case for the identity of the killer, as well as linking so many similar murders across the United States. Thanks for your work on this great video! Looking forward to the next one.
Love your teams work. Please continue. I love how all options are laid out and pros and cons of each option is presented. Love the logic and critical thinking the listener is required to use while engaging.
Awesome! Can't wait for part two. I'm from Iowa and had planned to spend the night in the Villisca Axe Murder house for my birthday this year but can't get ahold of them to see if they still allow people to do it

Such tales of terror and torment that seemingly result in actual death like with Christopher Case or Gaurav Tiwari (BTS covered them both) are genuinely horrifying af. There’s simply no way to even protect yourself against something completely unknown.
Reality is always scarier than fantasy. I wish this channel wouldn't do nonsense like ghosts and random folk tales of things that can't exist.
Great stuff, the best channel on UA-cam is Bedtime Stories. This story is riveting and compelling viewing.
Such a horrific crime boggles the mind. Your narration is superb and I’m looking forward to Part 2.
You guys have the best channel. I've never heard of this case and was instantly drawn in. Cant wait for part 2.
Can't wait until the next episode.
I love to hear bedtime stories. I have heard all of them, however, I enjoy listening to them over and over again.
Infamous Hinterkaifeck killings has MO almost exactly matching Paul’s one, so I’m pretty much convinced he fled back to the continent and was alive at least until 1922-1923
the narrator has really found his style, natural and measured, great job
I'm really, really glad we're back to the original narrator. It's simply a perfect match and one of the biggest reasons I enjoy your videos so much.
This is my kind of episode. Can’t wait till part 2!
Been here since 10k. Glad to see y'all get big. You deserve it
Don't read this.
Upload time of this video is so accurate as the next night(June 10-11)will be the 107th anniversary of the Villisca Axe Murders.
Liked before I started watching!! Been waiting for this one for awhile. THANK YOU!!
You’re literally my favorite UA-camr I love the art perfectly matching your stories that are just psycho lit and make my head full of terror love you xo
Maybe the man *IS* the train!
I knew Thomas the Tank Engine was no good.
Blade is Back
@Gregory Fessia Maybe man train the is
HHHHMMM
Maybe he wasnt actually the train but rather part of the train...
I'm from Iowa. About 3 hours east of this house
Now I know why you guys have guns
Same also from Iowa
I’m like 2 hours north. I feel like there’s a lot of good stories from Iowa that no one ever hears about, because I’ve never heard this
Oh I liked this one a lot and can't wait for part two! Not every video has me feeling intrigued, and true crime stories from the early 20th century are among my favourite! Hope there'll be more like this in the future.
I first heard about this case on a show called Ghost Lab. The EVP they caught was creepy as hell.
"Why did you kill these people?"
Reply: *For Fun*
Just finished this. "Next time, on Bedtime Stories..."
You guys are such teases!! Can't wait!
Honestly I’ve never seen such exemplary quality from an up and coming channel, please keep up the hard work man it’s amazing the content you put out
About to sleep, nice narrating and quality as always
I've come to the conclusion now that I think this guy is better than the newer guy, no disrespect to the new guy who is also good, his voice has a slightly dark tone without forcing it perfect for the subject matter, plus the audio seems better quality when he does it.
why are you going to sleep so early
I listen this and also Nexpo falling asleep. Good stuff!
@@_--Reaper--_ Maybe where their from it's already late at night or night time.😁
Do you by any chance like the iron pigs baseball team?
Perhaps you guys do the chupacabra next? Love your work and would like it see this be made!

I have chills! Great episode! Can't wait for Part 2!
it's connected to a previous episode. ;-) that's all I'm going to say.
Miss the days when I first found this channel and part 2 was already waiting for me
It's bad time and this gem just poped up.
Thank you.
Not all superheroes wear capes
Can't wait for part two, your channel rocks, thanks for all your hard work.
Compliment to the storyteller and the artist! You all made my night frightful so I could sleep soundly, haha.
Who in the world downvoted this? This was amazing, can't wait for part 2!
They only downvoted because they are asked to wait for part 2 :-D
Some people think they're downvoting the incident, not the production.
There seems to be a background level of dislikes that appear on every video no matter what it is. People will dislike videos of playing puppies. I thinks so long as they are less than 1% of the likes they can be safely ignored as the footprints of the perpetually dissatisfied.
The bigger youtubers do it out envy
Some bitter, untalented person...🙄
Amazing! I'd never heard of this case before, really excited for part two!
A hell of a cliffhanger! Can’t wait for more; thank you for creating all of this.
The fact that your stories are based off facts, makes them more interesting & intriguing
This episode was great! I'm waiting for part2.
Great and horrible I'm really glad they found the son of bitch that did this evil act, looking forward to the next one as well.
Glad you art person is doing the old school Disney technique of having different plates zooming in at different speeds to create more depth.....
One of the (many) unsolved mysteries that I am most fascinated by... have been anxious to see your take on it since you first suggested it. AMAZING job, thought I had read everything about this but this is a new take on it. Keep up the great work!
Such a sad tale but, man oh man do I look forward to Bedtime Stories.
Personally I prefer the more supernatural stuff, but I think you do the crime mysteries very well. 👍
Haha! So do we, but surprisingly, this won the subscriber poll we put out recently.
@@BedtimeStoriesChannel You did more than an outstanding job, but then you ALWAYS do.. 🖒🖒🤗🤗
I'll keep 👀👁👁👁👁watching
Fantastic, been waiting for the episodes we voted for. Actually been on the lookout for any new videos from Bedtime Stories.
Yes! It's always great when a new one of these drops.
Tales From The Hanged Man New*
@@Gotobar thanks 👍
Fascinating stuff guys. Never heard this story before. Keep up the great work! Ive seen every episode to date. Y'all are by far my favorite you tube channel!
@Truth seeker I'm looking forward to hearing the rest of this story!
So glad the original narrator is back.
Got a few videos to watch to completely soak in all of your content on this channel. Gotta repeat some cos I fell asleep during some of them but none the less, I liked every one of your videos and subscribing to you was a no brainer.
You're making a big name on this platforn! That is because of the the hard work and dedication you put into every single one of your videos. Everyone who watches you can tell that that is the truth. So keep em coming and I promise you more people like me will come to support you. Stay cool. Peace.
I was, at first, saddened by the fact that this episode was naught to do with the usual paranormal platform. After listening however the narration, story research, and outstanding art work, have once again superseded my expectations. Bravo!!!!
Too good...a great narrative with an equally appealing art and background score...
😘One ever I see a notification from this channel I feel happy bro you are legend
Sorry my English
👌
Dahad Hacker your English is pretty good
amazing story man very mysterious and eerie you guys doing superior job
This story intrigues me. I’d heard it many times before, but never that there was a connection to other crimes and a serial killer.
All hail the old narrator, perfect voice for the channel
Yay!! our narrator is back!! the other gent does an awesome job but you're the best!! 🙂
I’ve heard so many stories of the Villisca, IA murders. But this story is outstanding.
Fantastic video!
I’m waiting as patiently as I can for the next chapter.
This is a criminally underrated channel
Love your teams work. Please continue. I love how all options are laid out and pros and cons of each option is presented. Love the logic and critical thinking the listener is required to use while engaging.
You and “Beyond Creepy” tonight. Equals solid content and good sleep. Best and most underrated channels out there
We love Beyond Creepy. We asked him about a collaboration, but sadly, he didn't reply. Ah well.

I really like the effort of giving illustrations. Keep up the awesome works.
On point as always doing great job at these stories keep up good work
Awesome! Can't wait for part two. I'm from Iowa and had planned to spend the night in the Villisca Axe Murder house for my birthday this year but can't get ahold of them to see if they still allow people to do it
Nothing less than an outstanding effort from you guys. Never fail to delight me.
