    Having just bought my wife and I bikes since our young kids are gravitating to the sport it scares me to think of what the next video is. I thought the basic video would be wash it off, degrease the chain, grease the chain. At this point in the video I just cranked myself. I either need to learn how to do this ASAP or my mechanic bills are gonna be outta control. Thank u so much!!!

  • @BlueFoxOutdoors
    @BlueFoxOutdoors 4 роки тому +5

    I know this is an old video but if you have a problem with bolts coming loose when using regular loctite, try the Loctite Tape. It applies like pipe tape/teflon tape. Holds way better, doesn't harden or break apart from vibration.

  • @chrishenington6835

    Came across this video because I had this really irritating noise coming from the rear. Took it to the bike shop and they thought it might be a small rock in the disc break and that it would work itself out. Really didn’t think it was from the break. Watched your video and you brought up the presta valve! BOOM that is what it was!!! Tightened it up and noise gone. Thanks so much for the idea!

  • @stephenlord599
    @stephenlord599 5 років тому +2

    Well thought out and great for a beginner .. nice one.
    Quick tip on brakes .. it’s no longer to just top up a Shimano system BUT if you do then beware of going all the way through pads (and bleeding is something EVERYONE should be able do... especially people who are busy as who has the time to take the bike to a shop when you could be riding? ) .. the other thing is when you do fit new pads you’ll need to let out some fluid...
    Switching cables is also a cheap way to get/keep a new bike feel... a new inner takes 2 mins on top of indexing and flushing the outer with WD40 or better still a Teflon spray will get the crap out.. the genuine optislick (Shimano) is great but expensive.. I just buy cheaper Teflon inners and 10 go reasonably quickly with droppers and 1x across a few bikes... outer I buy jagwire in 10m lengths as it’s way cheaper .. you only need to cut what you use..
    If the frame linkage keeps working free it’s worth checking bearings and bushes... (but some frames it just happens anyway... non of mine but apparently a known thing on a Foxy. )
    Washing ... If it’s really filthy I usually start upside down (on grass to protect the controls) otherwise it all runs down later...then put it the right way up once the crud under the saddle and downtube is gone.

    Finally, a like minded Pro!
    Never used anything other than washing up liquid, a sponge, a toothbrush and the dustpan brush, with a bucket of warm water!
    Air dry it (and some kitchen towel) and spray WD40 (or other oil) on it - just not the brakes!
    Just seen though, 3 years ago! Good ole UA-cam recommendations!

    Thank you. This is really useful info. Your presentation was excellent. That's the best explanation of indexing the gears I've seen. One question. Is it better to remove the caliper when adjusting the brakes?I do a similar method but I loosen the bolts. Then I clamp the brakes down on the disc pretty tight. Then I try to evenly tighten the bolts. it seems to work ok sometimes a very small adjust to get out a slight disc rub. I was curious to get your take on that? Thanks agian. I'm gonna go work on my bike right now!

    • @i_like_blue_stuff
      @i_like_blue_stuff 5 років тому

      It seems the method he shows in the video is for reducing the travel of the pads/brake lever. His method seems a bit tedious to me, when to do the same thing you can actually just adjust a small bolt often tucked on the inside of your brake lever, which will push the brake pads in, reducing the travel of the brake lever. To adjust the brakes or remove brake rubbing, the method of just loosening the bolts and moving the caliper into position should work the best.
