Zoe, for part 2 of kpop is ruining you , can you look into variety shows enabling these unrealistic body standards ..
I remember watching girl group AOA on weekly idol and the hosts were measuring the girls waist sizes, I specifically remember Mina having a size 19 waist and the other looked uncomfortable getting measured after her. Please look into variety shows and how much they sexualize young female idols. Red velvet joy seems to be a constant victim of this 😢

As someone who has been shamed for being "too thin" and had a chubbier stage in my late teens (I only weighed about 8-10 kg more than I do now, but when that's 1 5th of your body weight, it's A LOT) I've had all the bullying. I tick every box for being at super high risk of an eating disorder. I have been extremely fortunate in my life that I haven't developed one, and have been on a long and winding road toward a healthier lifestyle. I resonate so hard with this whole video. It literally does not matter what your body type is, someone is going to shame you for something. It's pretty fucked up, but it's fact. No matter though, because we don't listen to hateful trash. (=

Love that. It’s all about finding exercises that you love that keep us healthy. I actually found the opposite though with calorie counting and macros, but I guess it really depends whether or not it’s useful to help your body do what you want it to do. Not everyone needs to understand nutrition at that level of detail. Plus, as a society, calorie counting used to be used in those points-based diet systems where people were trained to look at food as ‘good or bad’ based on the calories. I think that caused a lot of psychological scarring that we’re only just beginning to repair, and it’s not like those systems disappeared. It’s a shame that it was used as a tool to make people have a bad relationship with their nutrition, rather than taught as a useful tool for performance and recovery

I’ve been struggling to even get hungry for about 18 years now and recently managed to start eating multiple meals throughout the day because I was about to have a major surgery and I am a nutritionist so luckily I got to take classes on presurgical meal planning. I fully expected to gain weight (which I was excited for), but apparently I’m just going to be the same size forever because I somehow didn’t destroy my metabolism (going to assume it’s because I drank Soylent or ensure any time I could afford to keep it on hand and that kept me from avoiding nutrition completely). The only difference I’m noticing is I don’t get dizzy every time I am standing, for which I am extremely grateful!!! I love when people cover skinny shaming btw, thanks for having the guts to say anything. I just smile and “laugh” when people are rude about my body size

I hate that we as people get shamed for existing a certain way, be it thin, fat, muscular, whatever. Growing up, the way people spoke about my own body was very,, weird. I'm Korean, and just that was enough for everyone around me to expect me to be perfect like a doll. But I'm not, and this goes for everyone out there. I used to be fairly skinny, sometimes so that adults would tell me to eat more or that I need to gain a few more pounds. Although it should've been taken as a joke in their eyes, as a child, I felt depressed when it came to my body image and became insecure the older I got. When middle school started, my world came to shambles. Corona started, and I stress-ate up till 7th grade. I gained about 20 pounds. And luckily I have lost all that weight right now, but it was such a hard time for me then. My own mom, my own family, strangers, and adults I barely know would comment on my body like it was a yelp review. For those out there who easily stress-eats to overcome their problems, it's okay to do that sometimes. But please be aware that it is not a good coping mechanism for any type of stress. Try to do something more productive, and always be positive about your image and who you are.

So my best friend is extremely skinny and underweight. She does not have any kind of an eating disorder. The problem is that her body can't save the fat in the food. She used to take a lot of medicine in her early childhood wich lead to her not being able to gain weight. Right now she visits her doctor a lot in hope of one day having a healthier weight. It's so sad that she gets skinny shamed or told she had an ED, even though this is in no way true. I think it's really a problem of our society that you are a bad person if you tell someone that being extremely overweight is unhealthy, but telling skinny people that they have ED, even though that's not true, is okay?! I don't get it...
Btw what I'm saying is that you should try to keep your weight on a healthy level, I'm not trying to offend anybody.

It’s possible a lot of skinny people just don’t realize they’re not eating as much as others. I think this is the case for me. I will eat a lot if I’m out at a restaurant but when I’m at home I just keep to the three meals a day and won’t snack hardly at all. I just don’t have the desire to. Whereas I witnessed my bigger room mate eat all day every day and would do things like eat a whole bag of chips in one setting. I’ve heard of people eating like that before but I thought it was an exaggeration. All that snacking adds up! I’m not saying I don’t enjoy eating junk food but it’s in moderation. I contribute it more out of being too lazy to get up and go to the kitchen and a small appetite more than anything else.

Yeah I’m pretty sure it’s also a studied medical fact. Metabolism isn’t so common that every slim person has it, it’s simply they are overestimating how much they eat just how overweight people underestimate how much they eat. And that fat people have a faster metabolism because they are eating so much so meat loss does not mean you are slim it’s simply less calories.

    • @maddyG7414
      @maddyG7414 3 місяці тому

Yep, this is what it is for the large majority of skinny people. I’m more curvy, and though I’m at a healthy weight, it’s not without a fair bit of effort to not overeat. It’s not my metabolism that’s the problem- it’s that I just eat more overall on an often unconscious level. My skinny cousin just doesn’t have the same food focus. She enjoys food and indulges in many delicious meals, but she rarely overeats, her portions are small and if they’re not, she doesn’t eat for awhile. And all of this is largely without much thought. I think the real difference between people who struggle with weight vs people who don’t is their relationship to food, how impulsive they are, and the sense of reward they get from eating. All these factors can lead to consuming more calories than you realize.

If your version of letting go is still looking relatively slim, you probably still have good genetics. Obviously lifestyle is a factor, but your point would come across stronger if you acknowledged this.

There's so much resentment going on from people who are not skinny. That's where this really comes from.
Some people do have health issues such as Cushing's syndrome, Hashimoto's, Type 2 diabetes, and PCOS which contribute to obesity. I think it's important to acknowledge that not everyone who is overweight or even obese is sitting around eating McDonalds. I have PCOS and used to have to do one fast day a week just to not gain weight.
Just because someone is a certain size doesn't mean that they eat endless amounts of food just as someone who is underweight doesn't starve themselves. I've been overweight and underweight. I don't enjoy food like I used to when I was underweight. To me, it's just something to put in your body.

I am literally only almost 3kgs from being considered healthy according to society. People love to treat me like I am extremely underweight when I am not. I am a black woman which does not help either because in my community people are extra large and even people outside my community expect me to look like that. It is just very odd and disgusting all together to be honest.

I love these tips and I love your videos.
My only gripe with this video is that the definition for skinny is literally people who are not overweight. Skinny is more - looking thin, more so than average. Also this is everything you have done to be healthy that has also made you thinner, but you are missing out the huge role that genetics and metabolism plays in some people. Obviously this varies.
Showing women being skinny shamed then concluding that "we just work hard to be this way" - is true for many but misses the mark for many of us too. I don't work out and my diet is trash but my genetics mean that I am skinny. I am unhealthy and lacking in nutrients and trying to eat more and work out more. If I was healthier and did this all I would gain weight. Bodies are varied. Conversely I know women who will forever be overweight due to thyroid and hormonal issues.

Also, "skinny" doesn't look the same for everybody. I naturally have bigger / blunter bones and a large frame (yay wide shoulders and hip bones). So even if I weigh the same as a person with a smaller frame, I will appear "heavier" than them.
Plus - the old endomorph ectomorph body types thing might be regarded as outdated nowadays, but there is some truth to it, too. Some people like me CANNOT appear as skinny as others, because of the way our bodies are built. I would never get comments like "OMG you probably are unhealthy" simply because I would literally have to starve myself to look like some healthy, fit girls like Zoe! I could neverrrrr look her way of skinny, no matter what I did

For my whole life my BMI was never over 21, but as a teenager i was fat shamed because of my chubby face, big hips and belly. I still can’t see myself as skinny person because of that

I recently started doing strength training/ group training 3 times a week and walking on my off days a little over a month ago. Nothing makes me feel better than exercising. A year ago I would have never thought I would be where today. 😊

Ty for sharing all this hun. I appreciate your honesty! I wanna add a couple things I didn't hear you mention, and that's how injecting certain peptides like AOD 9604 CAN help you lean out, or "cutting." I started injecting peptides a couple months ago and while it's helped me get leaner, it's not been without some costs like losing some of my already smallish bust *pouts*. I figure it's worth it though...

In middle school and HS I was always teased for being "anorexic" when I wasn't... I just excercised A LOT due to colorguard and marching band. I never had an ED but was always accused of having one and it sucked SO BAD. Now being almost 25 it's still the same... but unfortunately body dismorphia is a thing and I am struggling to love myself (especially after the toxic ex boyfreind I had) but in any case Zoe your videos have helped me so much and I can't thank you enough. This video was a little TOO relatable imo but it was very well done and hit home for me. If you're reading this and are struggling with the same thing... please try not to let what other say about you affect you. Its harder to do than say but I know you can be your happiest self and love yourself the way that you ARE because we are all unique in our own special ways! REMEMBER theres only ONE you in this universe and that is something to cherish. 🥰

That woman who said that thin people don't have body dysmorphia is so wrong and her thinking is so damaging.
I used to be morbidly obese and now I'm at a healthy weight ( she probably would consider me as thin but I'm not) and I see myself as much bigger than I am. I don't think these people understand how difficult it is to come to terms with your appearance when you've lost the weight of a small human. In my mind I'm still fat and ill always carry this with me despite how my body looks like.

i didn't even get to a minute into the video but I have to say. that I have been shamed for being 'too skinny' and oh your body is 'perfect' or 'you should eat more' but that eat more comment didn't even matter because i can eat a thanksgiving dinner every day and not gain a thing. when I was having a lot of insecurities being skinny and I even came across a forum that said how 'fat' people get shamed more and go through a tougher time with their weight and skinny people should be happy and 'don't get shamed'. and I just love this because this is dedicated to the skinny girls and actually educating people about us and how were not just 'skin and bones on purpose

I also just wanna add that some skinny girls may look skinny but can be very unhealthy with just the way they eat and the amount of excersize they get.
I, as a skinny girl, is a very great example of this. But I am working on getting a workout plan and building my muscles so :))

thank you! finally someone said it. she clearly Was blessed by the genetic lottery because even when she was throwing down those cupcakes and gained the slightest amount of weight (like literally 2 grams of fat on her skinny stomach) it made her look still extremely slim but honestly healthier than rn..
even when I lost 20 pounds due to incredibly strict dieting and an eating disorder and later due to a chronic gastric illness, I've never been as thin as her. I'm just 'big-boned', have naturally larger muscles and weigh a lot more than I look so even doctors are surprised. just like my mother I seem to gain weight from eating a single cookie, we just genetically have this curvy round body type that holds onto every ounce of fat and no matter how much we work out, our metabolism will not improve. also working out a lot makes me want to eat three times as much so it's really not effective at all. my brother as well, he's at the gym every single day, is only 18 and still can't get rid of the chubbiness.
so to have naturally skinny and petite women like her complain about the tiniest amount of body fat (which srsly just looks good and natural on a woman anyway) while pretending they're so terribly affected by 'skinny-shaming' is just ridiculous. she fits both east-asian and western beauty standards looking like this, the only thing is that in the west she's considered too flat. but 99% of the time skinniness is still preferred to curvy chubbiness (which almost always comes with extra fat in places where it's not appreciated and cellulite, stretch marks etcetc.). this is proven by the horrid statistics that women aren't most likely to be underpaid due to racism or homophobia but because of fatphobia.
hence some skinny girl making video upon a video bragging about how skinny she is and how much she can eat while body-checking clips of her extremely thin frame are in the background is just insanely tone-deaf and hypocritical. I mean she claims she Isn't naturally slim only to show she's always been tiny even when having gained weight, then shows how hard she works out (bordering on orthorexia by the looks of it) to remain 'a skinny legend' - inarguably a fatphobic term, all the while pretending skinny women are majorly disadvantaged somehow. none of it checks out.
the reality is that some people just won't gain weight however inactive and ravenous while others could breathe in the vicinity of pastry and gain weight. and every statistic shows that slim people are preferred and idealized in every sense, not just in terms of personal attraction. not a day goes by where I wouldn’t change body types with naturally slim people, especially since I don't enjoy spending a lot of time mindlessly exercising and watching every mouthful to make sure I don't gain yet more weight. the grass really is greener on the skinny side.. I've never even been overweight per se, just slightly chubby and ruthlessly shamed for it since childhood to the point that I'll have trauma, trust/ intimacy issues for the rest of my life. the only culture where skinniness is mocked in a similar way is African and that's about it, everywhere else slim to extremely slim figures are preferred.

OMG, I’ve always been “skinny” and I’ve been called “stick arms”, I’ll say how much I love ice cream and people will say “you don’t look like it”, people will say I need to eat more yet a couple of times people will be surprised when I eat more. At this point I get conflicted on what I should and shouldn’t do with my body simply because of these comments and I’m only 16. You always make me feel so much better Zoe!!!

Hey Zoe, thanks for sharing, a lot of good points made.
One thing though, your statement during these timestamps
    1:45, 10:24 "Having a leaner body...is just a byproduct of adopting a healthier lifestyle".
Hm...Not necessarily. You can be not visibly 'lean' and still be at your healthiest. For some people getting lean will not be healthy or optimal. I'm sure it's clickbait and it's not your intention, but titling the video as "things 'skinny girls' don't do" and then in the video saying this is "about health" implies that skinny means health, which isn't always true.
I think it would be great to clearly say as a reminder/disclaimer during the intro of the video that you can be healthy without being lean. What's more important is adopting the healthy lifestyle and mindset.
    Otherwise love the video!
