- Released on London Records, this is Sir Georg Solti conducting the Chicago Symphony Orchestra in Symphony No. 9, "From the New World" movement II composed by Antonin Dvorak. As always, comments are encouraged and welcome.
This song means so much to me I remember moving away from Japan and being in love with this melody without knowing the meaning. I always think of Japan my home country every day. And I realise why this song communicated with me so much, when I figured out this symphony was actually written for the longing of home while in the USA, which is exactly my situation. I just wish I could go back to the peaceful life with all of my friends and stay there forever
Enjoyed this symphony in live concert for the first time with the person I've loved the most in my life, under the rain. I will for the rest of my life remember and cherish that moment.
I would love to see this in concert.

I am astounded every time I listen to this symphony . . . and it always brings tears to my eyes . . . If anything were to make me believe in God, it would be music like this . . . How is it possible that such profound beauty exists? Be grateful . . . be deeply grateful that we live in a corner of the universe, in this particular galaxy, in this particular solar system, and on this little blue planet . . . where music exists . . . My God . . . how fortunate are we?
I have made a firm conclusion 2 years ago that God exists. Out of allcreation, design, morality, beautiful music, and human creativity. I could not comprehend who could be behind this, other Than God the Father. God bless
I have this track playing in my headphones right now and the kleenex very handy. It does this to me every single time. Of all the classical music that I like, THIS symphony, THIS track is the only one that cuts deep into my very soul. The joy, the despair, the hope, the tenderness and the passion that lives in the human heart . . . . is here for anyone to touch and feel. You are right. God's fingerprints are all over this musical giant.

The most beautiful movement in classical music. In my opinion. And we are performing it in May. Just unbelievable. Can’t ever tire of listening to this.
Haven't watched Little Einsteins in more than 15 years, but somehow I still remember this symphony from the Saturn episode. My God the nostalgia. Now I'm about to turn 20 but this hits hard

I have a different memory; I first heard part of this in EarthBound, from the trumpeter at Beak's Point in Onett.

Probably the most beautiful piece of music I’ve heard. I cried twice while listening to this. I’ve only cried twice in the last 2 years
Can’t be more beautiful then Beethoven’s 6th symphony.
The intro was literally ripped off by Hans Zimmer for the climax of Dream is Collapsing.
Such a simple melody, I thought it was almost cliche when I first heard it as a kid and didn’t understand why this is classic. yet it contains so many emotions and is an instantly recognizable sound that is hugely influential
My son's entire childhood went through my memory during this one movement.

I first heard this mvmt from the baby einstein series I watched as a toddler.
Same! I also listened to the English horn solo (or I suppose approx. the first 5-6 minutes) as a song to sleep to when I was a child. I never knew its name and I was so when I found it again that I burst into tears and sang the English Horn part as if I heard it yesterday, despite it being about 14 years since I heard it last.
This is the theme song for the giraffe from Baby Dolittle: World Animals.
Every time I go on a drive through Texas from Austin onwards, I always hear this in my head. There’s just such a beauty to Texas I can’t describe.

Solti was one of those conductors who had people who either loved him or REALLY hated him. Unfortunately, since he recorded a crazy amount of albums, people who hate him have only his recordings to base their judgments. That's too bad because his live performances, especially with this orchestra, were some of the most breathtaking musical experiences one could ever hope to have. All of that said, this is one of the best - best Solti/CSO and best D9 - you'll ever find. rldcad is my hero!!

From the first time I heard this piece. I could see what Dvorak was describing when he had visited the western United States before he wrote this piece. It embodies the west and the new world landscape. Long before I saw it for myself. I knew what it looked like from this piece of mudic
I used to live very near where Dvorak composed this work. It evokes a summer evening there. It’s uncanny.
Solti's Dvorak #9 is the best.

Beautiful.. one of my very favorite symphonies.
Remarkable musicianship...there’s also something amazing about the unison breaths you can hear in moments between chords such as 00:15, that palpable breath is so amazing and makes me think of how connected the musicians are
My son recently played this in a concert of Dvorak compositions. As a violinist in a wonderful orchestra, he experiences that connection. It's what drives him to practice and participate for very little pay. He told me that connection is magical, dream like, and priceless, and most will never get to experience it. I'll avoid the decades of training and dedication and be content to enjoy it through his performance.
This is basically perfect. One of my all time favorites. I still just wish Dvorak had allowed that falling feather of a note at the end to have hit the ground and quit . But I'm nitpicking.

Brilliant interpretation of an amazing symphony. Words don't do it justice.
This work is sheer beauty in not only sound, but in orchestration as well The solemn opening chords in the brass are actually supplemented by two Clarinets in unison playing in their deepest of the chalemeau register.
Of the English Horn solo, it can be said that no more beautiful quote exists in all the repitoire. The counter-melody orchestrated in distance between both Clarinets (a2) and lone English Horn bespeaks the imagery of the vast prairies and fields of the American plains. The silvery unison of both flute and oboe is issued so pertinently conveying moonlight of a silvery effect. As the Clarinet duet plays, tremelos in the strings are bandied in the deepest darkness of night. The finale holds the greatest use of pause in all of music, the strings being muted and thinned to such a degree that a near faint sobbing can be heard. I've fallen under the spell of this sumptuous music since childhood. Incidentally, the opening of the finale movement is said to have been the inspiration for the main title theme to 'Jaws". I hear the similarities, and note the possibility of such an interpolation.
I grew up with this symphony. It was from my favourite Little Einstein episode.
Ahh, I remember that episode as well. Was one of my favorites along with the episode with the birthday balloons and that little wish episode.

Sir Georg Solti is one of the greatest. This version of Movement 2 is so beautiful I leave everything behind. It carries me far away. I want to stay there!

Excellent! One of my most favorite symphonies and well rendered by Solti and the Chicago Symphony.
The main theme from this second largo movement is beautiful and is the melody used in yhe song Going Home which I love.

The ending of shinsekai yori with this breathtaking song...and the children laughing in the new, happier world...brought me to tears . The feels hit me so hard. Literally I couldn’t even speak I was just choking on tears. this song and that anime are genius....the tears have never streamed so much.

When i listen to classical music, i notice that disney composers must be influenced by particular styles. I can hear parts in here that mustve inspired Alan Menken
If i was still studying music at university, I would absolutely look into doing an in depth analysis on classical influences on the Disney Renaissance period scores.
All film score composers are influenced by the classical greats. This Symphony is among the most popular and influential of all.

Yesterday a friend ir mine show me this, ando i told him: This sounds practically the same as the Lord of the Rings soundtrack! And he tells me, sure, but Dvorak is from the last century. I got a tremendous surprise because I thought that the soundtrack of the Lord of the Rings was ver special ante unique. But looks like i was wrong. I constantly confirm the fact that everything has already been said, that the music is already done, and that there is nothing new under the sun.

Many many composers love and draw from this piece, and others from Dvorak . . . All great composers and musicians are "thieves" . . . and they all hope that what they create will continue to be stolen, borrowed, and honored for as long as human beings exist.
