Solange doesn’t get enough appreciation 💛
You so right
I appreciate it erryday!
She don’t want it she know what her sister go through 😫
@@ZariaZen everyone wants appreciation. Maybe not the fame that comes with it but nobody makes music for it not to get appreciated
This
Solange ATE on this entire album. This song gets me emotional because I know what “it” is. Whew.
Mannnnnn!!! She really really did!!!
This album came out while I was dealing with a terrible breakup so it’s emotional to me too.
Big facts love this album
Period
Facts on facts. Listening to it again just re lit my fire for this absolutely gorgeous album. A bonafide masterpiece.
At one point, Solange explained the meaning behind the single “Cranes in the Sky,” and that the song had actually been written eight years ago (from album release date) after a break-up with her son’s father. “It was a really rough time,” she said. “We were junior high school sweethearts, and so much of your identity in junior high is built on who you’re with. You see the world through the lens of how you identify and have been identified at that time. So I really had to take a look at myself, outside of being a mother and a wife, and internalize all of these emotions that I had been feeling through that transition.”
When she was seeking “peace and refuge” in Miami, she found the inspiration for the song with help from new properties being developed all over the city.
“I remember looking up and seeing all of these cranes in the sky,” she explained. “They were so heavy and such an eyesore, and not what I identified with peace and refuge. I remember thinking of it as an analogy for my transition-this idea of building up, up, up that was going on in our country at the time, all of this excessive building, and not really dealing with what was in front of us. And we all know how that ended. That crashed and burned. It was a catastrophe.”

I would love for them to do Musiq Soulchilds “Mary go round”
Thank you for sharing this. I love this song, but never realized the origins. This adds even more depth to the lyrics for me as I re-listen to the lyrics.
Wow thank you for sharing.
@@thesmileyeffect you’re welcome!
@@sevysev you’re welcome!
She should have gotten Grammy for this Album
#Facts
She did win a Grammy.
Totally agreed!! Fabulous work!
She won her first grammy thanks to that album. "Cranes In The Sky," got Best R&B Performance.
She did
This album is HISTORY. Solange and Raphael Saadiq did their thing 🧡🧡🧡
Raphael Saadiq produced this. The percussion and base is his style.
You can definitely tell, beautifully produced.
I was going to post this. This album is a masterpiece.
I never knew that .

Yes. He performs it live during his concerts too, wonderful song.
I use to cry so much listening to this song. I never needed to hear her explanation of it…I just got it.
same here....I played this song throughout my post pregnancy blues to help with my depression.
Same. It was instinctual to me. An explanation would be a waste of breath in my opinion and would do the song no justice. Some songs are just meant to be felt. ❤
@@BigTash omg this is when I started crying to the song. I had PPD too. I hope you are well ❤
@@GoogleAccount00 definitely!! ❤

When Dad closed his eyes…I knew he was feeling it. It’s just something about this song. 💜
🤣🤣🤣
Yes
Facts!
Yes, the a epitome of reaction videos- watching a person Enjoy.
bliss
Cranes is the sky is one of my favorite songs period . Solonge is very understated. Her voice is special.
This song helped me through my depressive episode
To me, Cranes in the Sky is synonymous with explaining depression. Metal clouds to represent the heavy, burdensome and intrusive thoughts that come with depression. Her lyrics can be associated with how people (including herself) try to run away from depression, problems, or life in general.
Solange is such an eclectic artist and human being. She marches to the beat of her own drum, which is significantly different from what's popular by US standards. She shares these thoughts in her song titled, "Fuck the Industry", (a song with a Kanye West music sample).
Any song from A Seat At The Table is worth listening to and truly digesting on the channel. "Don't Touch My Hair" is another popular song from the album.
"Fuck the Industry" is another cool song from the album, Sol-Angel and the Hadley St. Dreams
I appreciate this write up⭐
By far the best review 💕
@@Hloni_Nonhlanhla888 Thank you
@@radkookie Thank you
Amazing analogy. Definitely.
I’m so moved by your fathers openness to appreciation. It’s soooo beautiful. In a time when loving music is now a “personality” or reduced to a niche …. It’s nice to see 2 ppl, father and son, bond with genuine love for art…. AMAZING!
That song gets me emotional every time. Solange did a masterpiece with that album.
Goosebumps FR
Instant tears
Girl me too! I cry every time!
@@DeLaTr0ll ok so it’s not cause I’m pregnant cause 😢 the tears just flow out of nowhere
@@whosaidthat9265 lol nope 😢
I would recommend "Don't Touch My Hair" as the next song however a lot of her songs require some getting use to her style. I enjoy a lot of the album myself. All of her lyrics are very meaningful.
With the video.
@@naturallycleva5809 that would be interesting
And Binz after
Weary is really good
@@cococherrymango1225 yessss must do binz as welllll
A Seat at The Table is one of the most beautiful bodies of work I’ve ever listened to.
Not me crying watching Dad embrace the brilliant artistry and extraordinary musical sensitivity of Solange lol. Thank you both so much for this; A Seat at the Table is a truly breathtaking album and (thus far) her magnum opus. I would love to see you both explore “Where Do We Go” in the future if you’re taking recommendations (but the whole album is honestly transcendent). Thanks again!
Yeah, they really should just do the whole album.
whew I shed tears too! they are so sincerely passionate about embracing quality music. its sooo beautiful.
I usually tear up watch dad enjoy it.
Tears here too. 💛
I cried when it started I read someone’s comment about the meaning of the cranes. 🥹
This song is therapy. The best way I can describe this masterpiece.
"I Decided" or "T.O.N.Y" from her sophomore album, 'Sol-Angel and the Hadley St. Dreams' - Wonderful piece of work!
The way that album holds up... 🙌🏿 I just drove around the other day, enjoying it.
TONY was my song.
That album was ahead of its time 🥹❤️
@@tiffanymthembu4962 and definitely underrated.
Solange is such a great artist and songwriter. Severely underrated. Its hilarious to me that he waited til the last possible moment to mention to his dad that she was Beyoncé's sister lol.
He probably didn't want it to take away from or overshadow her artistry.
I like Solange’s music more
I’m glad he didn’t lead with that and explained who Solange was as a talented individual artist first who just happens to be Beyoncés younger sister
Lol because there’s way more to her than just being Bey’s sister
What time stamp does he say that
Solange-TONY ❤ she’s so original
Still gets me emo. Her older tracks don't get enough attention
@@radkookie I literally still listen to Cranes almost daily 🥹 she is such a vibe. Very underestimated
God I love that song. I still listen.
T.O.N.Y. - loooooooooooooovah!❤
Omg thank you for reminded me about this song!! Wow 💗
I'm jealous of your Dad. I love this song so much wish I could hear it for the first time again.
Yessss.... such an experience ❤
My daughter was born when the album came out and when she would cry with out reason I’d put this song and she would just get quiet and vibe out. Even the babies know. She is 6 now I can still put on this song and she goes in to mellow mode. Beautiful song beautiful music absolutely BEAUTIFUL VOICE. Good choice.
Wow that’s so beautiful. That just warmed my heart. Your daughter is pretty special.
Aww that’s so sweet and triggered a similar memory I had with my son that I completely forgot about. When he would be fussy I would play Don’t Know Why by Norah Jones and it would mellow him out every time ❤
My son was born around the time this album was released as well and I would do the exact same thing whenever he would get fussy. I would literally play the whole “A Seat at the Table” album and he would mellow out lol
@@milonna201 oh yeah that whole album is good 👍🏽
Too Cute 🎀
Growing up under the shadow of the "Beyonce Machine" couldn't have been a cakewalk. But- Solange still pays a small homage by the reference, "Don't you cry it baby" from the huge hit 'Me Myself and I' track Could be an excellent selection for next reaction. With both Beyonce & Solange, you MUST accually watch the visual while listening to the music. It really adds a giant portion to the plate.
Dreams by Solange is by far one of the most soothing songs in the world…also a lot of vocal layering and a super simple instrumental that will put you in a trance
I just closed my eyes & listened to this song again for the first time in a while. The whole album is incredible
Because of Dad, I just realized that Solange was indeed talking about both “cranes” in the sky. She’d much rather be the bird flying freely from place to place, only to see more cranes 🏗️ in the sky.
Perfect explanation of this beautiful song
Also, I love how vague the song is because "it" could be anything you're avoiding at the time. I adore this song.
Let's also give Raphael Sadiq his props for the music. Solange and his chemistry on this record is phenomenal. I love your Dad's reaction. My baby niece had the same reaction. This song still gives us goosebumps.
I LOVE experiencing music through your dad’s eyes. He has a beautiful heart and keen ear for the details and layers. Keep the videos coming!
Thank you so much!
This song is a classic.
If you like fluttery neo-soul and this album in general you'd also probably like an even newer artist who makes music with Steve Lacy, Ravyn Lenae, her voice is super angelic.
I will always remember where I was, what was happening socially and what I was feeling when this album came out. Solange should be protected at all costs 🥰.
This song is so beautiful. It always moves me to the point of tears. In today's times, it's so hard to find music with substance. Solange is one of the most underrated artists around and definitely deserves more respect than what's given.
Definitely need to hear more Solange! Thanks for watching, Devonna.
Solange’s voice is so beautiful on this song, I absolutely love it and the instrumental
If she wasn't Beyoncé little sister her vocals would be talked more about.
Let him listen to "Weary" or "Lovers in the Parking Lot" the latter is from an earlier album .
Facts, Solange receive huge recognition for this song & her album, in 2016 and maybe she doesn’t get talked about as much because at 17, & she became a young mother got married so she pretty much put her music career on hold to raise her child, so her being Beyoncé sister didn’t stop her from having a successful music career. Maybe it’s because things that’s happened in her personal life which made her take a different path! but it seems everybody love blaming her sister (Beyoncé), for Solange not having that kind of music career and exposure you think she should have which isn’t Beyoncé fault at all!
The whole album! Do it! Please! 🔥
They should definitely watch “When I Get Home” even in their own time… it’s such a beautiful piece of art.
Yes!!!
This album got me through a very tough time. Solange definitely deserve her flowers she is an artist, this whole album was just beautifully made. 💐💐💐
I love that u covered Solange. She’s soooo good but she doesn’t get enough credit ❤
She’s truly underrated. The whole album is next level 👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽🎶🎶🎶🎶❤️❤️❤️❤️
Absolutely Agree!
How your dad explained her voice, like clouds, layering. So true, beautiful
This was the song I’d play to calm my daughter down as a baby
Big shout out to raphael Sadiq who produce on this album and played if you want to go down a rabbit hole google his song credits you will be amazed
I really think he would enjoy “Mad” as well!! On how beautiful she sound speaking on letting the hurt and pain go as well as the lil Wayne verse which is masterful and he talks on how he once tried to commit suicide but it didn’t work because he was so mad as well as the little feature from Tweet. Really the whole album is just beautiful and it would be a great album review as well!
Mad is my favorite song from the entire album. Boy, did I have that on repeat for weeks on end. I loved Lil Wayne‘s verse.
It’s so good!!
YES! Mad hits me in my soul
this is the one! Mad would be perfect
The 1st time I heard this song was while I was standing in line in a coffee shop. The song was great, I immediately stepped out of the line and listened to the track and was blown away at how dynamic this track was. You have brought your father full circle into "popular" music as well as little known artists that have incredible songs. Cheers!
His reaction warmed my heart, that’s exactly how I felt the first time I heard Cranes in the Sky. So many feels!!
Solange gives me goosebumps! You guys should do "Almeda" by Solange next!
I am a Solange stan. I must admit. I really do love her and admire her. This album is AMAZING and different and haunting and beautiful.
"Don't Touch My Hair" from the same album. One of my favs from her.
One of my all time favorite songs such a beautiful one that spoke to me in so many ways. Great reaction once again!
Solange is so underrated
“Sound of Rain” gets played on a regular
I love that Tweet’s voice blends so well with Solange’s.
I never realized tweet was in this before but as soon as I read your comment I heard it. How could I have missed it?!?
Contemporary art is a great description. She performed this album in museums mainly. Just a spectacular reiteration of music as art! Weary, Mad, Don't Touch My Hair, or Don't Wish Me Well are all great songs to try next.
I recommend “Losing You” for your next Solange song. Came out in 2012. Still my favorite from her. I think your Dad would really enjoy the production.
Also recommend “T.O.N.Y”
Losing you is definitely my favorite song from her for sure 🔥👌🏾👌🏾
Yeah, I love that one.
Also Lovers in the parking lot.
Yessss I love losing you and lovers in the parking lot
“The texture of her voice is like I’m in the clouds.” That analogy was perfection. And the genius of the lyricism being built from her pain is so genius.
I got emotional watching and listening. This song really hits you deep. Knowing what she's speaking of .
It does sis!
Hey you have to play Bilal “Sometimes” for your Dad it is one of his best vocal performances so much emotion and range encapsulating the lyrics he’s singing, going for strong to gentle effortlessly and so clean he’s a pro
seconded, an absolutely beautiful song!
Yes he must hear this one. This song is still in heavy rotation for me
Yes!!!!! Beautiful song. Bilal did his thing.
Yes. there are so many BILAL songs he could play but Sometimes if one of his best!
One of my favorite songs
Loved this album. Her recent sound and lyrics, and videos occupy their own space in music. She’s an artist.
Loved this whole album and listened repeatedly for years. My favorite track on it is without a doubt “F.U.B.U”. I also love “Almeda” from her second album.
Fun fact, Solange’s father wanted her to be in Destiny Child with her sister but she kept resisting because it wasn’t her vibe.
Almeda is actually on her fourth album. A Seat at the Table is her third
Your comment leads me to believe that you haven't heard the "Hadley Street" album or the EP. Treat yourself!
Solange was however a background dancer for destiny child for a couple years, you see her in some of the background performances
@@COSMICCFREQUENCY144 Even wrote a lot of the hit songs.
@oratile tsimatsima wrong. Solange has never written a song for destiny child ever. Beyoncé taught her how to sing, Beyoncé wrote and produced most of Destiny child music. Please stop making stuff up. Solange doesn’t have ONE writing credit on any of destiny child songs
Absolutely love the way your dad explains how he hears the song. The way people consume and process music is so interesting to me
Same!!I think that’s why I’m so engaged with the channel. I’m an empath and HSP so often assess music on a deeper level (not saying that others don’t). But I like to see what excites someone else when they listen to a song. What catches their attention. Are their ears inclined to hear every instrument? Are they intently emerged in the lyrics and wordplay? Are any emotions evoked? Do they connect to the song in the same way that I do? So many things.
I loved this song when it first came out.
I love your Dad man. His responses are so visceral, you can hear the genuineness in his voice. You guys make an awesome team. You guys keep it up. I love ya'll ❤️
It’s interesting that you guys think it is about a person. I’ve always thought about it as about depression. Trying to lift yourself out of a bad spell with fun and entertainment, work, exercise, distractions, and detachment. Just anything you can think to get yourself out of the bad headspace.
It is about depression but she was also talking about her relationship. I think it was with her baby father they had been together since high school.
I would say Solange SATE is contemporary Folk/RnB. The music reminds me of Corinne Bailey Rae or Lianna Havas style with the primary use of traditional instrumentation for their music production.
“Don’t touch my hair” is a great song by Solange
Weary, don’t touch my hair, don’t wait, I’ve decided are all great songs.
This album is one of those special albums that touch you emotionally and imprints itself on to your soul and as the years go on when you listen to it it is still able to give you those feelings again like a time machine… a beautiful piece of work
I believe it's fair to say that dad didn't want this song to end. I can relate, one of my favorite songs as well
For Real by Amel Larrieux is something I think you both would enjoy. Also Maxwell.
That’s my song 😌
YES!!!!!! That falsetto. Mariah who???
This! Another album that will forever be a favorite.
Losing You. To me, that was the start of her NEW SOUND. It's another gorgeous record.
Dad explained that so well. I got emotional all over again. I remember listening to this album while finally being able to sit in a bath (I took showers regularly). I also had been preparing for college senior project. So so stressed and going through life’s changes as my time in school was coming to an end. Such a time to revisit watching this.
I was in awe of her voice when i first heard this song. We definitely need to hear more from her. Beautiful beautiful voice. Thanks for letting the history of those lyrics. I was like dad, thought she was talking about actual cranes (birds) and wondered why. 😂
Honestly, just do the entire album 😂
She made an incredible work of art with this album.
If I had to choose one song, Weary is a great one. It has the same vibe as Cranes.
I used to work front desk at a large hotel and if you've NEVER HEARD CRANES IN THE SKY PLAYED IN A MARBLE ATRIUM YOU'VE MISSED OUT.
I used to tear up. Sooooo beautiful.
I can only imagine. It probably sounded so ethereal and angelic. 🩷
@@Erica-en2qz exactly!
One of my favorite albums!!! Just a masterpiece
He'll love " I decided" by Solange
When he mentioned the clouds with a voice attached to it and how they are layering on top of one another and they’re just swirling all over…. There isn’t a better explanation for how it sounds ❤️ a very emotional movement of the music
This album is everything and cranes in the sky got me through some of my darkest days
We’re so lucky to have Solange, this song, and album.
i used to listen to this when i was struggling with my mental health and it always brings tears to my eyes
This album got me thru some shiz in 2016. This album is a spiritual experience to black people. It’s involuntary.
Solange - Weary!! Or maybe the whole album haha
It was refreshing for everyone. That was exactly what we felt when we first heard it
"Almeda" is a very good song off of her last album, Y'all should give it a listen
This is one of my favorite songs
i love this so much! it takes me back to when i first heard this perfect song 🥺
This album had Zero skips. I remember listening to this album all the way through multiple times while working

Solange Essentials Playlist was on repeat this weekend. She has so much to be proud of her catalog is brilliant and beautiful
One of my favorite songs ❤. I always get chills whenever I hear it. I'm glad you guys were able to experience her. That song is absolutely a master piece. The whole album was amazing.
One of my favorite albums. I straight wore it out.
Neo-soul is the genre name she is usually said to be representing.
solange is ahead of her time, she's an AMAZING artist, ASATT is a masterpiece, y'all should listen to the full album. I also recommend her EP 'True' (2012) is really amazing too!
This song does something to my soul ✨
Your father and his genuine reaction is PRICELESS. ❤️❤️❤️ New subbie ☑️ This channel is so refreshing
