This game was to me what Skyrim was to everyone else. I hated Skyrim. I hated how slow it was. I hated the clunky, immersion-breaking animations and sloppy textures/lighting, and the stealth system was shit. I hated the same-y side quests and dungeons. Far Cry 3, on the other hand, was fast-paced, fun, full of random encounters, and had a stealth system that worked really well. Personally, I believe it was perfect from start to finish.

The bow is definitely my favorite weapon in this game. I just love it so much, same as in The Last of Us and Tomb Raider. When a bow is done well in a game, I am definitely more into using it than guns.

I tried to play the first Far cry but was too hard and annoying so then tried Far Cry 3 and didnt mind it, but yeah i noticed that 3 had nothing to do with 1 so i figured that the whole Far Cry series were just different scenarios that all take place in the same universe and all share the same name and i quite like that theory cos that means i dont have to complete part 3 to enjoy part 4!

  • @DM_Dad
    @DM_Dad 10 років тому +6

I just finished this game and I liked it a lot, but there were problems. Some were just annoying, like how when I climb a ledge, I am grabbing the air 6 inches away from the ledge or how if I got a phone call before getting a main mission, I'd have to hear it every time I loaded the game or completed a side mission.
The best part was combat. The enemies in the first half of the game are easy to hide from until you start shooting. In the second half, they will see you better, but you are wearing their uniform so they won't be hostile until you are, or if you go into a restricted area. My only problem with it was that if I miss with the bow, the enemies know where I was shooting from, but if you hit, they didn't seem to know. What made it great though is how the enemies rally and more will come once you start making noise. What seems like an easy fight against two enemies can quickly become a fight against 6, coming from different directions.
This game fixes a problem I had with FarCry 2. In FC2, I was annoyed that to get anywhere quickly, I had to drive through several outposts which were constantly manned by enemies that respawned rather quickly. There were not multiple sensible ways to get somewhere. Here, there are enemies around and you have to be careful, but there are choices, such as driving on or off road, or walking over hilly terrain. You also don't keep fighting enemies in the same spot every time. However, there is one big problem. There are these enemy controlled outposts throughout the island. They are avoidable, so they don't have the problem FarCry 2 had. However, while clearing them is fun, especially trying to go undetected, clearing the outpost makes the area "safe" meaning the tribe you are helping takes over. Now you will have allies in the area instead of enemies. The problem is that this makes those areas boring as there is no longer a threat. It also breaks my immersion. Where were all these fighters before? If the pirates have complete control of the island, why do they never take these outposts back?
There is actually some story justification for why you are so good with the guns. It may or may not be enough for you, but it's something.
This was the first open world game I didn't use fast travel. The world is big, but unless you are going from one end to the other, you don't feel like it takes forever. The island is beautiful and they really did great work and put in many detailed areas. The relics are meaningless collectibles, but they are worth collecting to see the locations where they are hidden. The Letters of the Lost were great however.
Finally, most of the side missions were fun. The supply runs were a blast because they make you drive over crazy terrain, not just a road. The Wanted Dead missions were also cool and requiring a knife kill made several difficult. However, some of the hunting missions are stupid, such as when you are asked to "hunt" rapid dogs with an RPG or flamethrower. That's the Path of the Warrior?
The main antagonist, Vaas was one of the best I've seen. They do a great job of exploring if your character is actually becoming like his enemy. However, they deal with him in a really stupid way. Basically, he beats you in cutscenes several times throughout the game. After one of these times, you go into what seems like a dream state where you fight him. You have no reason to think anything about it is real, but you wake up and are told Vaas is dead. That's it. Lame.
The last problem is that the ending gives you a choice. One seems to fit, but the other makes no sense and you have absolutely no reason to choose it. It's as if they tried to give you a Star Wars dark side option, or a choice like the original Fable. However there were no morality choices throughout the game so it didn't fit.
Still, this was a good game. I'd say 7/10
I jumped several times getting sneak attacked by crocodiles!

This is the best game I've ever played by far. The story is really good in my opinion, and it's very emotional. The music is great, and the world is immersive and really well-made.
There are mods for it, but I've never used any myself. There are mods that make the game really hard, and mods that just enhance the HUD.

TotalBiscuit, The Cynical Brit but if you like it and are willing to say in a video to try it, but refuse to even put a video up, how much do you actually like it? obviously not enough to make video. maybe you only make videos to complain? who knows? it's just hard to take your advice when you are so adamant about not wanting to make a video for it. personally if i did something like this i'd like to let people know about games i liked and enjoyed, but thats just me.

at 13:35 TB talked about the healing animations, just want to point out that not only can you bandage your arm, you can dig out bullets with a stick, dig out bullets with your mouth(driving), pull your thumb back into place, pull your hand to mend it, similarly to the thumb, and there might be one more, but i can't remember it exactly. Anyway they do have variety, it just depends on what damage was done to you last. Fall off cliff, pull hand or thumb back into place. Get shot, dig out bullet.

19:30 I think the explanation of how you become a firearms expert so quickly is the application of the tatau. The reason it is called the "tatau" instead of just a tattoo is because it is part of the mark of being a warrior. It represents a magical power you have been given. You notice that you don't have to get new parts of it actually tattooed on and it just appears? That is why. It is kind of like it has a magical property that when that first part is placed on your arm, you gain abilities.

I felt skyrim had plenty to do. All the same, what i really valued about skyrim is that most situations had multiple different ways to handle them, even outside of combat. Need to procure an expensive artifact? well, you can buy it off whoever has it, or you can steal it, or you can use diplomacy to talk them out of it, or you could intimidate them, or you could just kill them. It seemed like almost all the different situations throughout the game had a multitude of solutions. and i didn't find the game even the slightest bit boring.

There are mods to increase weapon damage dealt by both you and the enemy. I even think there's this one mod that changes up the entire game difficulty wise (realistic ballistics, more hides needed for backpacks and whatnot, less loot, less money, weapons don't unlock until further in the game, and even more). Sounds like the perfect mod for you, TotalBiscuit.

@19:40 Its implied that his brother taught him because (spoilers) when you have to get the mushroom in the cave for the doctor when he starts to hallucinate you also hear some discussions that he's had with his brother and girlfriend and in the one with his brother he tells Jason "why are you afraid you are a natural with a gun." So I would guess that would be the answer to your problem with him being an expert in fire arms right from the start.

That alligator attack was hilarious, as was skinning the Tiger underwater. I get what you're saying about guns. I HATED how hard it was to fight in Gothic until I realized it was because the character has no idea how to use a weapon. Then the only thing I hated was that enemies jumping backward makes you miss even if you still connect.

My favorite Farcry experence. FC1, MP5SD, Complete stealth. I loved scouting places out and sneaking constantly. Even in the final act where things get a bit clusterfucky, I still used stealth as much as I could

starting fires is the one of the funnest things to do in this game. I got cornered on a wooden bridge with pirates waiting on one end, and me hiding out on the other. So I torched one end and watched them burn... Rambo

I love how TB complains about the "herbs" filling up his inventory as he continues to cut down almost every one he sees.

When you go to the second island, you unlock the other half of the games weapons. The new guns are the kind of things you expect to find stuff in cod.

The Quick sell problem is more of a PC problem than a console problem. With the console, you can just spam the buttons for a few minutes.

Actually, what Jason says is, when handed cash by Dennis to buy a weapon is "I've never shot anyone before". Also, at some point in the game we hear (probably during one of the "trips") a person, presumably Grant, tell Jason he is a natural with a gun. So it makes sense that Jason knows fine well how to fire a weapon, his only obstacle is actually being able to bring himself to shoot someone with one. I'm guessing saving his family & friends provides that impetus.

the alligators only hide in the lillies, so if you REMEMBER to check the patches of lillies in your proximity, you will see them just sitting there. Of course if your in the middle of hunting something and you forget to check, you'll jump out of your seat, throwing your controller in the air ( or mouse off the table ), creating a primal fear of swimming in far cry 3. Remember to use the hunting drug just in case, especially if you think sharks are nearby.

The only place I have EVER found or seen a shark was very far out in the ocean I really think they should have put them closer to the island :/

The best way to see where a croc will be is to look for a villager standing by the shore waiting to be eaten.

For pc, i changed the vehicle controls a wee bit. Gas and brake when onto the mouse right and left. It makes it more fun to drive when you do not have the gas permanently mashed to the floor

actually jason's not really some random guy, those tatoo's growing in his arm are his hidden potential, each time a tattoo grows, jason unlocks more of his inner potential.. that's the reason why dennis saved him in the first place, cause he saw potential in jason
