I like to imagine that each song is a different spirit's little story, and depending when it *sounds* like it came out, not *when* it came out, that's the year the spirit died. For example, dream sweet in sea major sounds like it came out in the 1940s, I'm going with 1946, so that's when the spirit telling the story (which is the song) died. But goodbye, by Billie eilish sounds newer, maybe from the last year or so, so that's when the spirit telling that story died. I also imagine the spirits as fireflies.

sometimes they are, ish. when you go outside and listen, like really listen, you will hear stories hidden in the songs of sparrows and in the push of the wind. it may sound cheesy but listening to the music that nature creates has been the world's oldest form of storytelling. what sounds sad is a tragedy and those light and carefree melodies that poets told of are of domesticity and comfort. sorry for the paragraph.

I'm sorry if this is really long, but I had a ton of fun writing this!
It used to scare you. The voices that whispered in your ears, so real that you could feel the heat of their breath tickling you. They were always there. They were a soft murmur in the background, rumbling in rythym with the tv you kept on in your apartment to drown them out. You didn't like to listen to them. When you were younger, maybe, you'd allow yourself to process a word or two, but you learned to block out the impulse to hear what they had to say.
You didn't like to talk about them. You knew what happened to people who heard voices. So you told yourself that you didn't hear them. That the things they said were your own thoughts.
And that's how you lived. Day by day.
Until you couldn't do it anymore.
Until your fear turned into madness, your indifference into burning desire.
It killed you. Slowly, it ate at you. What were they saying?
And maybe that's why he found you. He knew you needed him, and he came into your life at the right time. You were broken, crumpled on the sidewalk, the voices shouting at you. He lifted you like it was only natural and looked you in the eyes.
"What's wrong?" His voice sounded like sand. It trickled into your ears through the other voices.
Maybe he was the first one you told, but he was also the last.
He smiled at you. It was gentle and knowing. "Talk to them," he said. "Maybe you'll learn something."
"Like what?"
"Like what they want."
If there was somewhere they were loudest, it was the forest. You closed your eyes and opened your mind. You felt the spirit's words filter in.
"What do you want?" you asked. Your voice sounded desperate and tired.
Instead of the choppy unintelligible answers you were expecting, they answered in unison:
"For someone to listen."
So you did.

The marshy soil beneath your bare feet feels like pure bliss, with softness that would allow you to melt into it, a sensory way to ground you and let you absorb the beauty around; coniferous trees, standing tall and evergreen.
The rhythm of your beating heart, pounding heavily against your chest, coincides with pattern of your rushed footsteps. Periodic exhales of warm air brushing by your parted lips, contrasted with the chilly breeze of early winter striking your cheeks. It’s cold.
Colder than it should be.
Good.
A knowing smile can’t help but caress your features, aware of what the sudden iciness indicated. You’d become acquainted with the voices of the wind, howling with the lingering presence of the spirits that’d louden their whispers until they meet your ears. They’d tell tales, stories of their past lives and how they came to be.
And when you catch sight of silvery mist fogging the areas, the outline slowly growing into more coherent human shaped entities from the periphery of your eye, you’re sure of your prediction.
“Ah,” the figures slurs in a hypnotising fashion, the voice sounding like smooth silk weaving its way through the trees, “You’re here.”
Suddenly the speaking spirit swirls around you, the mist filling your senses with the scent of pine all you could comprehend. Pace slowing down, you close your eyes for a beat and let out a huff, rolling your eyes and muttering a little ‘meanie’.
The voice chuckles at your antics and speaks up again, “Okay, okay, let’s begin…
“Run.”
And so you do, running off again, this time feeling lighter with the flutters of laughter that rumble through your chest and the aid of your spirit’s floaty help, reciting a story you’d never forget.
Maybe when you’d become a spirit one day, these moments would be yours to tell.
I accidentally clicked on this playlist. But I stayed. I don’t know why I stayed, but I did. The whole thing gives me a sense of memory and nostalgia. I don’t even know if this makes sense to anyone because quite frankly, it doesn’t to me either. It’s a mixed feeling of fear, comfort, and sadness for an experience I’ve never had. That’s the best way I can put it. I don’t know whether to stay or leave.

You continued to wander through the forest. The grass tickled beneath your bare feet; there were no paths to take, so you forged your own. The spirits of the forests would tell you stories if you stayed long enough. Stories of love, loss, adventure, tragedy, and hope. You could feel their cool breath in the summer shade, their presence never absent. You were just like them: a wandering soul. The chill began to seep into your very bones as you slowly picked up pace. The trees and their soft cover could not hide you from them. You broke into a run. So many stories, so many memories, so many people. And then there was you. You were just like them. You were your own person with stories to tell, memories to make, a human being.
[No real meaning or message behind this short bit, unfortunately. I’m currently studying for mid-year exams (and procrastinating by writing this, whoops!), but this playlist is just too perfect not to write to. It’s making working so much easier. It's 2 AM so I thought this could be a good idea!
Oh the forest, these familiar woods. Just a bit foggy and moist after a day of warm rain, water droplets still on some of the leaves and flowers.
There is a quiet clacking-thumping sound your hooves make as you run through your homeland, just to the point where the forest turns into a meadow.
You come to a stop right at the edge, trying to get leaves out from between your small deer horns. Should be okay now. You look around, seeking for that strange human girl just your age.
There she is. She saw you too and started running for you. You wait, placing a hand on a tree. You wish you could run through the meadow with her.
But the meadow is dangerous. Humans live there, just at the edge of what you can see from here. Yet this girl is always here, not afraid to run into the forest.
She comes here every day. Sometimes with an old dusty book, sometimes with a sheet of "paper" and a "pencil", that's what they call it.
Sometimes she comes with tears on her face, but she never says why they appeared. You want to help her somehow.
She often tells you stories. Of princes and princesses, of castles and knights and of dragons and all the different creatures you saw and didn't see before. You sang in your language to her in return. She always said you sound like a siren and your singing is beautiful.
You always blushed and muttered a little thank you in return.
Months passed. You are not children now, but two grown women. She has grown even prettier than you remember. But you can feel she is worried. She says you definetly found "someone" already. You don't know who that is. You ask. She turns away and says 'You know, someone you like. In a special way'. The only person coming up in your head is her.
You tell her that. Her gaze is back at you again.
Time passed again. Spring sun is warm against your skin. These familiar woods, the ones you grew up in, still welcome you.
Your hooves still clack-thump through you homeland, now called The Ancient Woods, she says. The meadow has became smaller than you remember. Maybe you just grew up.
You come to a stop right at the edge, like always. You get the leaves and twigs out of your grown horns.
You look around. You wait a bit longer than usual.
Someone touches your shoulder and you flinch. It's her again. She smiles and you grab her hand, both of you now running around the woods.
A siren sings again. The new tree grows at the edge of the woods.

The forest was unusually misty today, but why would that matter? You skipped hopping to the song in your head, it rose to a jogg, then with the free feeling the cool atmosphere gave your heart you flew, maybe not fully, but you still zipped through the trees. A giggle took your chest, as you slowed to a clearing.
"Finally, do you know how long I've been waiting" the oh so familiar voice rang out from the stones in the center.
"Sorry, you know how I can all be" you say while a figure comes into view, your dearest friend.
"Come, I have so much to tell you" the say taking you hand you jogg of into the trees, diapering from sight as you two slowly desend into the think cover.
I wonder what story they'll tell you this time? let's stay with them and find out, huh?
I hope you liked this, I tried to write an everybody type story, it's where ever your imagination takes you.

The spirits sing their songs because you were the only one to listen.
They're beautiful every time. They're uniquely theirs and you wonder how anyone could've ignored it. The love and hate and sadness the songs hold fill you with emotion. Some are victorious, others domestic. Some leave you in tears and shivering like how they once were. Some leave you with a grin and a happy buzz. They sing songs of fallen soldiers and puppy love. They sing songs of fantasy and adventure. The murmurs fill you with peace and their shouts warm your body. It's never silent. That's okay. You never liked the quiet much anyway.
You don't know their names. They certainly don't know them. So you call them songs. You grieve for them and love them for who they were and who they are. Some sing together, others serenade their sorrow alone or hum their joy.
You gave them love and time freely. They gave you stories.

Running, running, running, never stopping nor slowing down, the breeze carrying the voices of all those mysterious spirits into your ears.
Their melodic voices fill you with many emotions, sadness, joy, fear, excitement, as many as inhumanly possible...
The gentle wind caresses your face as you continue at top speed, winding elegantly through trees and the underbrush. woodland animals look out at you as you run, curious as to why a human could be there in the depths of the woods, though not unhappy about it... As the sky darkened, more spirits awoke, filling your ears with the sounds of increasingly more gentle voices that were telling you story's of their lives, some as animals and others as humans, it was always interesting to hear the story's they told, some of tragedy, some comedic tales, others wholesome life accounts, whatever it was, they all had something to say, wisdom hidden deep within each tale...
You enjoyed listening to their story's, you felt that you gained much knowledge from listening to them, that is why you would go back every evening when the sun was setting, to run through the forest and listen to them speak. All the story's were always thrown at you at once, though your mind was somehow able to pick them all apart and listen to each one at the same time, while still understanding what was happening and the meanings behind it all, you guessed it was just one of the many mysterious things the woods could do to a person... You stopped running, slowing to a walk and wandering into a familiar clearing. A familiar voice greeted you, a spirit you had spoken to many times before, a spirit who seemed to be older than all the rest, ancient even.
You've never thought to ask how old this spirit was, nor has the spirit bothered with telling you... It was all just up to you to take a guess...
The spirit greeted you with it's ancient, melodic and whispery voice "Hello child, I see you are early today..." It let out a raspy, light-hearted chuckle. This spirit, unlike others, had no visible form, it was just simply a voice, a voice that inhabited this clearing, a voice that always told you how much it loved to see the stars, but alas, it couldn't, that's where you come into the story...
The spirit was able to see through your eyes when you were around it...
You had a strange sort of connection with this spirit, you could physically *feel* that connection, a slight tug whenever you greeted it, a tug that made you want to go further, learn more, just be *near* this spirit. You weren't sure why you had such a connection, you had never heard of anything like this happening to anyone else....
You greeted the spirit in return "Good evening Miss/Mr/Ms/Madam/Sir (whatever 🙄😂)" the spirit let out another light chuckle "How are you tonight, my dear child?" The spirit asked in it's melodic voice. "I'm doing well" you said back softly. "Now, I have another story to tell you..." the spirit started "This will be like none other that I have ever told you... This one will be about my life before I became a spirit, a tale of who I was when I had a mortal body, this story is going to answer all of your questions my child, including what this connection between us is..." The spirit then started it's story, and you were amazed...
[Ok, so yeah, that honestly did not take long to write, contrary to what some of you might think.... :) I'm just a fast typer - that's all... I think... ;-; Anyway, sorry that was so long... I have a tendency to start writing and then not stop writing.... Hehe.... Yeah, so, I'll leave what this 'story' is about, up to your interpretation.... Personally, I would think it to be that the spirit is a past life of the person, and not just any past life, but like, some sort of really important one or something... Like, a king/queen/prince/princess from ancient times.... Or like, Eve from the creation story or something like that..... Anyway, hope y'all enjoyed that... I've never really written anything that long that has that much detail.... (believe me, I've written longer story's, but they're a bit devoid of any proper good detail.... ;-;) sooo...... Yeah, I hope that was good enough to reach the standards of all you random people out there.... :) ok goodbye]

If you dropped me in a forest, and gave me complete free rein, the first thing I would do is just Run. Run and Run and Run and laugh and spin before I collapse breathless onto the forest floor. My lungs would ache and my heart would be pounding but I'd love it so much.

I’m so glad to see another of these, they always introduce me to new songs I love
As she ran through the forest stumbling over branches and rocks she laughed and cried finally free finally where she belonged, suddenly she heard someone laughing with her, looking around her, she stopped.
She smiled as she knew it was the one thing that understood her best, the ever so smooth wind that twisted and whirled around her as if to say hello.
Letting out a deep breathe she began running again, she loved it as the wind rushed through her hair, making her ever so lighter as she lepted and stumbled over rocks and flora. She always felt the happiest in the forest dancing with the wind.
I feel like this would be Anne of Green Gables' favorite playlist if she was born later
