    I started collecting SNES around 2006 a few years after my families original SNES and library were given away by my brother without any permission and one of the first games I found was EarthBound for 60 bucks. Had it back in the day and loved it a lot so I was pretty excited to get it back in my restarted collection. Was especially happy when its price started sky rocketing the last decade.

      That's a real bad luck, but I don't think your dad even knew about the value of these games around 25 years ago...
      The SNES was starting to head on the way out to make way for newer consoles ( like PS1, N64, Saturn ) back then and many of them rented only VHS for movies, most of them didn't survived to switch their VHS to DVD at the time and most of them went out of business because of this problem, one by one they were gone...

    I have the box, instructions and cart of E.V.O. What was interesting about that game's instructions was that it was a fold out rather than a booklet of some kind. I could probably snag at least $500 on ebay for it, but I rather enjoy having such a rare game in my collection.

    Of these, I have four of them CiB.
    I'm so glad I held onto the games I had as a kid, instead of trading them off or selling them, especially with how expensive they've become in recent years.
    Mega Man X3, I bought from a Toys R' Us for around $40 or $50.
    Earthbound, I had a copy of that I lent out to a buddy, who moved before he returned it.
    I found a new copy in a bargain bin for $10, so I replaced it.
    I later ran into my buddy again, who gave me back my other boxed copy, so for years I had a brand new copy and my original.
    I still have the new copy, but gave the other away to two people in pieces- the cart to one person, the box/guide/tray/etc. to someone else to help them complete theirs.
    Castlevania: Dracula X, I bought new from a bargain bin for around $15.
    Hagane, I got off a catalog from the back of a gaming magazine (possibly an EGM or GamePro?), for I believe around $50.
    I've taken incredibly good care of my games throughout the years, so they are all in very good condition.
    I also have a sealed Super Metroid.

    The one game I own here is Earthbound. It’s a dang good rpg and my favorite game for the system next to Chrono Trigger. One other game that has recently become a favorite of mine is a gem of a game that has also become very valuable and rare is a game named Wild Guns. I first played it on the Bsnes emulator a few months ago and it is a really good game. It’s like if Snatcher, Sunset Riders, House Of The Dead and Cabal all merged together to create a wonderful game.

    For the SNES... I only ever saw MegaMan X3 in stores ONCE. It was at KBToys and was $74.99, which is the most I think I ever saw a game for there. I wouldn't have the game until the MMX Collection on PS2 was released, and later on the PS4.
    I actually passed up getting Dracula X for $19.99 at another KBToys at some point in the mid 90s. It was in their "bargain bin" they had at the front of the store. I had around $23 on me, but needed the money for something else. Figured I would come back in a few days and pick it up. However, when I returned, it was already sold and that was the last I ever saw of it.
    Hagane is a fun one. I grabbed this from Gamestop in 2005 for $5.99. This was a few months before the local Gamestop stopped selling their "retro" cartridge games to make more room for the forthcoming Xbox 360. The label was in pristine condition, but Gamestop put a price sticker over it and all the sticky residue was a pain to get off, so, in my stupidity, I tried to use nail polish remover on it. After a few second, I wiped away half the label. Then, my even more infinite stupidity, I took a sharpie to it and tried to recolor some of the black border. Oh well. I collect for the game itself and not the cosmetics, though, so live and learn.
    And on the subject of rare games... where would you say Super Turrican 2 falls into things I have an even crazier story about that than the Hagane one!

    • @moonshinegaming
      @moonshinegaming  2 роки тому +1

      Super Turrican 2 was so close to making the list, I think it was like 12th when I was ranking everything, crazy rare game! What’s your story with ST2?

    • @newspooiechannel
      @newspooiechannel 2 роки тому +1

      I won a sealed copy of Super Turrican 2 on eBay back in 2000/2001 for 83¢ plus shipping.
      The seller had probably 30 copies of it, along with other games, and posted them at different times throughout the week and all his auctions started at 1¢. This was back when bids less than a dollar were in 5¢ increments (I have no idea what they are now for something that low, or if you can even less for that low). I'm guessing someone, somewhere, found some overstock cases and wanted to get rid of them. So anyway, someone tried to outbid me for 78¢ instead of just bidding on one of the other 1¢ auctions they put up and I saw quite a few of them end with no bids at all! Then, later that evening, I saw another auction send when someone bought a sealed Super Turrican 2 from another seller as a BIN auction for $69.99!
      Even more absurd than winning that for 83¢ was that I bid and won a sealed copy of Troddlers from the same seller for 1¢ and that was combined with Super Turrican 2's shipping at no additional cost. I would have paid extra for shipping, but he didn't seem interested.

That fucking game sold millions of copies. How is there such high demand that it’s doubled its MSRP? You can download that game for 5-10 bucks on Xbox right now.
      Retro gaming has become stupid to me, to be honest. It’s less about wanting to play games and more about having a “cool” collection. I’m not saying people don’t play some of the games they buy… but I am saying they barely play most of it.

    Final Fight was an arcade game with 3 playable characters, Hagar, Cody & Guy. When they ported it over to home console they had to make cuts so Capcom dropped the elevator level and the character of Guy. A lot of Final Fight fans were upset as Guy was a popular Character, so eventually, Capcom relented to fan pressure and released a version that included Guy instead of Cody. So to talk about Final Fight guy as a sequel and call it a lazy money grab is a but harsh and very wide of the mark.

      The box for the game literally says Blockbuster Exclusive Title, it was never sold elsewhere and was primarily a rental I assume as Blockbuster to my knowledge never really SOLD games. Just when stores shut down they naturally sold.
      My guess is Final Fight was a popular game and Blockbuster wanted an exclusive so Capcom offered Guy as it was never released in the USA, Guy was already on PAL so aside from updating text to English it was a fast title to get out for Blockbuster.
      Like Flinstones Dino Peak, rare as can be but in this case we absolutely KNOW the NTSC variant was Blockbuster only.

    I don’t think his prices are very accurate I bought earthbound in mint condition for around $100.

      Your price could be depending on where you live, and also if the cartridge was authentic or a reproduction. If you were in North America and got as authentic copy of Earthbound for 100 dollars that would be the deal of the century. FYI the prices in the video are in Canadian dollars. Thanks for checking out the video 👍

      That's the reason they are expensive LOL. Their rarity plays a part in their price...

      @@Dorian_Gray83 it does, but certainly it is certainly not the same thing. Take Mega Man games on the Saturn, pretty rare, sure, but they are much more expensive because they belong to a popular franchise. Or take some very rare 3DO games, which you can't even find on eBay, yet if they show up, they aren't extremely expensive, because they are so obscure and not in high demand.

      I understand what you are saying and yes demand does play a role, however the games that Moonshine Gaming mentioned in his SNES list, fall into two categories that make them rare. They are were either unknown for majority of the SNES's run or came out towards the end of the SNES lifecycle. Megaman X3 and Dracula X were the only known games from Moonshine's list, that had name recognition. Yet they were released on the SNES, when people were already moving on with the Playstation. Back in the day when people were busy playing their SNES, they were playing Super Mario World, Super Metroid, A Link to the Past, Super Mario Kart and Turtles in time. Yet nobody knew games like Hagane, Aero Fighters, EVO, Pocky and Rocky 2 even existed. Now fast forward till today, both conditions have made these games rare and expensive and combine that with the high demand you mentioned = ridiculous prices LOL...
