Apart from supplements, here is a suggestion when glaucoma affects partial vision loss for a solution to be hopefully reached. With the onset of A.I, perhaps glassware producers of spectacles could invent and extend or expand the remaining sight for improvement.and ability for users to see better. As it takes time to reach total blindness with the onset of glaucoma, a study could be initiated to produce specially made glasses that will expand any available remaining sight for the individual glaucoma victim. This may be an alternate method for preservation of partial sight loss since damage of the optic nerve is irreplaceable at this point of time in Yr2024.

Important info: I had taken nicotinamide 500mg most days since feb 2022.
In august 2023 I upped the dosage to 3000mg. After 2 weeks, i needed emergency medical attention as I went into urine retention and needed a catheter fitted- doctors couldn’t find evidence as nicotinamide as the cause. Bloods/scans were fine.
I started taking nicotinamide (same dosage, more precise times) in October. Again after 2 weeks, I struggled to pass urine. This continued for 7-9 weeks.
This month I took niacin 250mg, 1g a day, for 4 days- I’m now struggling badly to pass urine, and my bladder is near mullered!

That's terrible, and I'm totally sympathetic. And thank you very much for sharing your experience with us.
I'm thinking that, like some participants in the study who had adverse reactions when the dose got up to 3g a day, could it possibly have been better for you to increase your doses in really small increments? Maybe you would have experienced less severe side effects and been able to stop, or at least reduce your dosages without such awful bladder problems? Just a thought.
At any rate, thanks again for sharing with us. I, for one, will be keeping my doses at 600mg (300 twice a day) for several more months until I slowly experiment with slightly higher doses.

      @@moondriver232 thank you.
Just to add, when I started taking it in February 2022, I was taking one 500mg most days, I can’t put a date on it, somewhere between autumn 22-late spring 23,
I noticed I was struggling to fully empty my bladder at night- I really didn’t think anything of it. I see this now as a warning sign.
Also each times I have had this reaction, I’ve developed a really metallic salty taste in my mouth which lasts for weeks. Not to mention the change in bowels!
Please be careful, this vitamin needs many more trials, especially longer term. Urine retention- it was probably the scariest thing I been through. At the time hadn’t passed urine for 30hrs+.

@@robp2282maybe it caused by other drugs, sometimes i struggle with the same and I didn't take any b3

@@moondriver232 - I am using 500 mg nicotinamide B3 capsules. I had been taking one a day, but recently increased to two a day. I will be careful and now perhaps only take this twice a day intermittently.
I am also taking citicoline daily and n-acetyl-cysteine or s-acetyl-glutathione about once every week or two. These are also supposed to help.
There is some research on lithium orotate for glaucoma. It is apparently low in soil. Yet I will wait to add this until I can get my lithium level tested. Another form of lithium is apparently used for psychological disorders and I read that it is known to cause weight gain and thyroid damage. So it seems the right form and dosage would be very important for glaucoma. (The jury is out on this, so I will defer any use of this until I learn more.)

42:22 you're assuming it's the pressure that is the reason it is beneficial but seems there is a different function, lower pressure being a side effect.

Was the listener who mentioned cholesterol lowering confusing niacinamide w niacin? Niacinamide is not supposed to affect cholesterol; niacin is.

Time for a short update? Others are quoting more recent research. 2nd point is style. Machine gun talking into a presumably cheap microphone made this unpleasant to listen to. A few graphics might be good too. (20yrs as a Moorfields patient but can't remember when I last saw a doctor. You guys were trained by House?)

My diagnosis: glaucoma suspect with Pigment dispersion ; My ophthalmologist does not want to consider SLT, the reason being, she believes that IOP increases after SLT in those with PDS. Has anyone else run across this?

    • @DeepDive9301

Go to a ophthalmologist with experience. I had higher pressures too and we considered taking a SLT which greatly reduced pressure even as the cause has been Pigment dispersion

    • @VideoWow7184
      @VideoWow7184 2 місяці тому

I have PDS and had SLT done. They give you a drop before the procedure to control the temporary pressure increase due to SLT. In saying that, the SLT for me only lasted 2 years or just under that and from my research its effectiveness diminishes with each repeat procedure. Because of this I stopped receiving this treatment because there is a risk of scaring which could impact your pressures long term and I'd need to be one drops in less than 10 years anyway, so I concluded that the benefit wasn't much and wasn't worth the risk over taking drops instead.

Can anyone tell me where they get certified Nicotinamide Riboside in the U.S. at a reasonable price? For instance, TRU Niagen, which is the company that seems to have formulated and patented it in the beginning, sells it for $42 a bottle containing 30 capsules of 300 mg. each. So to get 3,000 mg daily you would have to take 10 capsules per day, and a bottle would last three days!! $420 per month.
This is, of course, the most expensive brand, but the only other certified brands aren't much less expensive. There are cheaper brands on Amazon, but they are liposomal and all brands seem to be the same product, probably made in China, and often arrive with the capsules stuck in a glob that is unusable, and there is no evidence they even contain NR.
If anyone can suggest a quality source of NR at high doses that is reasonably priced, please let me know.
    Thanks!
