- Last year I made what would be my most popular video, so this year it is back. Luckily not bigger or better then last year, but certainly with a few things Ill not soon repeat. In this adrenaline-packed video, we bring you a compilation of near misses, and mistakes that I faced throughout this past year. From close calls that will leave you on the edge of your seat to stupid avoidable mistakes this compilation promises both thrills and insights into the unpredictable nature of the job.
Enjoyed the video. All I can say is, "been there, done that". Over the years, I haven't damaged any property. But, I've got shaken up pretty good while negative rigging (shook loose once, saved by climb line and lanyard). I've spiked through the heel of my heavy leather loggers (broke skin, but not too bad). I've had hangers bop me. And of course I have gaffed out several times. I'm pretty careful.....and I move slow (like an old man can) so I get to think lot while I'm up there. No matter how careful, bad things can happen.....especially while using a chain saw. Hope you had a Merry Christmas and wishing you a trouble free 2024.
Luckily for me the only property I have damaged our fences, and I'm getting a lot better at not doing that. I have certainly gaffed out while negative rigging when the ground guy didn't let it run, and my flip line caught me. I'm still learning, and until I don't have any fails I'll keep posting them every now and then. Just as a way to remind myself that I can keep improving. Thanks, have a safe 2024

It takes a great team to show when jobs don’t always go right thanks guys have a great 2024
Thanks
You, Sir, are EXTREMELY badass! Thank you for the video and happy new year to you and yours!
Thanks.
Happy new year to you as well
Real af thanks for sharing
Be safe man definitely a dangerous job. Great work and love your videos
Thanks
Cool vid man, we’ve all been there with a lot of not all of these situations. Stay safe bro 💪
Close calls are all part of learning. Keep at it.
For sure, definitely not perfect, and am always learning
@@ReallyTallTreeGuy Perfect reason to bring someone else for a bigger job. Convince the boss.
Man thats rough, good job and thanks for sharing
I'm not perfect, and I still make mistakes. So I figured I would share them with everybody.
I didn't know spiking oneself was a thing until now! As for rigging the logs, a half hitch and a running bowline mitigates the swinging and distributes the load a bit better too
Yea it was the first time I got myself, so was definitely not fun.
Awesome video once again. Greetings from Brazil
Thank you very much!
thanks 4 sharing
Oh that shed..
crazy bounce.
You had a good year.
Yea that was the culmination of a crappy tree, so it was just the icing on the cake.
Better then thirty minutes of fails. 😂
good reflexes moving your hand and keep it from getting smooshed 🤘
Thanks, definitely glad I moved it
Thanks brother
No problem
bonjour , et bonne fêtes a toi , merci pour toutes tes vidéos cette année qui on étais parfaites , je te souhaite de très bon nouvel an , avec beaucoup de santé pour toi et ta famille
Thanks, I'm glad you enjoyed.
Thank you for sharing. Not too bad at all, and looks like most were your rope guys needs time on those ropes.
Your fails from 23 is shorter than 22 video. Seems that you have improved in your work 😅 . You are doing an aweaome job. Cheers
Thanks, I've definitely tried to improve.
Just bought my first set of gaffs. Havent used them yet but was looking at them and saying to myself "I hope I dont slip and stab my leg!". I will go slow..
..
That's the first time I swike myself in the leg. Just as long as you're careful, then you should be completely fine.
2:26 That branch was out to get ya!!
Thanks for the video! How many climbers have a triangle shaped scare on the inside of their leg? 🤔 lol. Keep up the good work!
I'm sure quite a few haha.
Thanks
@@ReallyTallTreeGuyI know I’ve got mine, passing threw the crotch of a smaller tree. Gaffed my toe threw my boot once while standing in the crotch of a big tree as well. Spend enough time wearing climbers and you forget you have them on. 🤦♂️ Thanks again for the video! Let others learn from your mistakes, we all make them. Have a good 2024!
3:25 the fidget spinner of death! Lol
Oh yea definitely glad I moved my hand out of the way
@ReallyTallTreeGuy Most definitely that one too. I was talking about the big mid-tied section that hit the trunk on the return and split those chunks off towards one of your ground guys. So much deadly force in that thing. It's like it took aim at your boy down there in a final act of rebellion. Lol. Gotta respect these trees man sometimes their attacks seem orchestrated. Great video, glad you're okay. I appreciate the content.
@@Lucky.Devil0311 oh yeah, I typically prefer to Mid thigh, because it comes off a little bit easier than tip or butt tying, the only issue is that it does tend to spin. Unfortunately the foreman was a little too comfortable on that job site, and almost got hit with that chunk. Glad you're enjoying the content. Thanks
I felt that self spiking, no fun. I spiked myself once in the heel on a small tree.
Yea its definitely not a fun time. Doubt the heel was a very pleasant event
Sorry you spiked your leg. You didn't do too bad for a years worth of slip ups, but most were not your fault it was the ground crew. Stay safe and God bless. 🙏🙏🙏
Definitely not the worst injury I've had, but glad it wasn't worse
gaffed myself into my left leg just like that about 40+ years ago, was in a big leaf maple & shoved some moss in under the skin, had to dig it out.
Branches hung up high: Headaches
Trees leaning on other trees: Widow Makers
Proof: 2:33, it didn't kill him
I’m glad it was no worse than it is! I got 6 pairs of blue jeans with saw cuts through them ! Haven’t gotten my legs yet ! Knock on wood!
Yea my work oants have tons of nics, but just from the saw being there not cutting. Luckily the spiking was the worst injury I had this year
what i am getting from this: there is no science to tree cutting, just hope for the best lol
There is a science, just sometimes things don't go according to plan
1:54 believe it or not i did that, on the ground in my hand 🙄
Nocked a chip out of that roof right..
I cut my shinbone 1/2 into with full chisel 3/8 chain and i'm ok, just got bone splinters picked out and stitches. I'm 63 and have a little pain at times from it, not much.
Hello. It seems to me that all your problems are because you are only handing the wood with one rope. I know it's faster and easier ... and I do it sometimes, BUT safety first - a second holding rope must be put on. I wish you good health!
Kinda dangerous I think….
Be safer next year.
Thats always the goal
You needa go harder on those rope people shew…. Been there
Meh it happens bro
Some days are better then others
@@ReallyTallTreeGuy oh yeah true that
