Explorer is being used very heavily in metro areas, not just rural areas anymore. Departments really like them with the large amount of interior space and ability to plow through offroad /obstacle medians in bumper to bumper traffic areas without any fear of getting stuck and moving at a good rate.
In my suburban town, Chevy SUVs have completely phased out police sedans except for 1 Charger the department got for free as some kind of a gift or prize. In general in the area, SUVs are almost the norm for police. Plenty of room for anything they need, and tough, but a degree pricier overall, and doesn't have the potential to go as fast probably, but that doesn't seem to be too much of a problem.
In Germany we have BMW, Mercedes, Opel and VW as police cars and maybe some (rather rare) Toyota Prius cars. ... but in Russia you have Toyota Prius police cars too, right?
The Crown Vic was the best Police vehicle the world has ever seen imo, honestly is a damn shame Ford hasn't made a new one. Body on frame, RWD, can take a beating. Ford just needs to create a new one with all the components that made the old one great, it just needs to be more fuel efficient & safer in a collision.
