Great review. I hope it cuts just as well as it did for me. I want to commission another from jkoo, but this time maybe without the dragon menuki and better wrap. Hopefully you do a cutting video with it in action in the future? (Once tatami drops in price ofcourse.)

Not the best substitute, but I've used pool noodles for tameshigiri. 🤷‍♂️

Beautiful katana! I collect pocket knives, and I've found that blades with a full flat grind are usually better slicers. Also, I'd like to go in the opposite direction; I have a katana and would like to get a ko katana.

I got my first JKOO Katana and have no plans to cut anything with it as there is no one near who could repair or sharpen it I will put it on a stand.Should I wipe the oil off it or just leave it alone as I plan to leave it in the saya most of the time.

That is a great looking Katana. It has a really calming spirit to it.
If you don't mind me asking, how much did you purchase the piece for Sensei?

Hi. Used, it was about $400. You can find others on their web site (Sino swords/ Jkoo swords).

Looks like a really nice sword. I haven’t seen a katana with that geometry. I am very curious as to how it will cut!
I have worked with cutting tools all my life in the wood and metal industry. (50years). Of course I have had to sharpen many tools! So there’s a thing in a tools edge called a relief. It prevents friction and unnecessary heat buildup and gumming especially with something like aluminum. So basically everything behind the cutting edge is taken back to a steeper angel so none of it touches as it continues through the material it’s cutting. That’s why the teeth of a saw are set to protrude past the plane of the blade. If the teeth weren’t set there’s no way you will want to cut boards with it! Prolly throw it in the trash!
So thinking about that with a sword blade, maybe the flats on the typical blade give it that relief for less friction when slicing.
BUT....one never knows until you try it! So really looking forward to seeing your video on it. I love R&D! and swords! And your right...never have enough to them!
    Great video! Thank you!
