In 1974, I had a '66 390 GT Fairlane, with Ford tri-power, and a top-loader 4 speed. Crane claimed my cam was unstreetable, with advertized 318° duration (252°, at .050 lift), and .584 lift. It (the cam) was lumpy, but it was my daily driver. Those were the days.
My BBC Comp Magnum solid flat tappet is 248/248 @ .50 & 595/595 lift on a 110 LSA. Pretty lumpy, will idle at 800-900 and is very, very streetable. It really lights up when I get into it. Fun, fun, fun!
I had a similar scenario with my '69 Fairlane. Aluminum heads, high rise intake, 4 barrel carb, cam about as radical as you want to get on the street with long tubes that would drag on speed bumps and side exit exhaust through turbo mufflers. SBF though. Daily drove it during good weather in the early-mid '00s. Fastest feeling car I've ever driven. Almost completely uncontrollable under WOT. My current grocery getter would give it a run but it feels slow in comparison.
Oh Barry it does happen. I know a guy personally that during some kind of family issue ( possibly divorce ) anyway he personally drove his 1970 chevelle SS 454 to a crusher and stayed there and watched them crush it. He has some pictures as proof. Actually all he proofed to me was what a fool he is.
I feel blessed to able to race with people like Chris. I did not get a chance to talk to him at Maple Grove, but I have met Robert Pond a couple times. Great guys. Thanks to Evan for posting this. I hope Rich Lamont is watching. 🙂
Wow!!! His story is damn near identical to mine!!! On This car being his first! I also purchased a 67 289 auto!! Worked a whole summer for a Brick mason, saved 1000$ and brought it home! In 1990!!!
Can't get much better shape than that classic Fairlane and with the 427 probably the Pinnacle of fast Fords in the 60,s. Absolutely luv it. Thanks for showing cool bloke.✌️
I ran a 520 lift 300° duration hydraulic cam in my 66 falcon. It was an optional Cobra Jet grind. It would go to 7500 without any powwe loss. With 3x2 intake from a 406 it would run 11.40 on street tires. The cam, intake/carbs and dual point distributor was all I did to it other than a 0.030 overbore. The Falcon used all Fairlane parts to change it over to an FE engine. It bolts right in and takes just a few hours. I've built them all,but I love the sound of the old FEs when properly tuned. They pound the ground like no other.
That is a beautiful 67! I had two... A 67 hardtop with a 289 auto and a white 66 with a 289 three on the tree w/pull out manual OD. I've bought and sold a lot of personal cars over my many years... The 66 is the only regret that bothers me today every time I watch a 66-67 Fairlane video.
Once again, thanks Evan. As a seventy year old Ford motorsports fan, I have many favorite Fords but my ultimate favorite Ford styling is the 67 Fairlane. Just something about the lines that creates a mood or attitude. In 1967 my father took me to the iconic Muncie dragway in Indiana. There I saw a 67 lightweight Fairlane called the Hemi Humper. Don't know who owned it or where it was from but it was instant lust for me and I've loved that model ever since. That body made a great NASCAR race car as well. If I remember correctly, the great Jim Clark drove a 67 Fairlane in the Daytona 500. Mechanical problems took him out of the race but I'm pretty sure he was doing well for not being a regular. I'm sure it was a Holman Moody ride. Thanks again Evan.
You do a fantastic job getting all the details in your interviews. Nice work! Anyhow, I'm a Chevy man but I appreciate any car where massive effort is put into it. These two Fairlanes are awesome.
Almost ended up with a '67 Fairlane for my first car, ended up with the '65 GT Mustang. But I always loved the Fairlanes, three of my friends owned one in high school and they were beautiful. Thanks Evan for another great video. An FE turning 8100 rpm? Wow!
I put one in a 67fairlane. Didn't have room to put Manifold or headers on. Still had 289 spring, Since I took the day off of work and did all the work, I took it for a romp down the street before I took it out. Blow out my ear drum, When I let off the front end put a gouge in the Asphalt. Took it back out, Rebuilt it .used the fairlane 390 motor mounts and put the 460 in a 78 4×4.1/2 ton. I had a fourteen foot dump trailer full of wet sheet rock #hevey. Dropped it down in low, low lock. Nailed it. I didn't dump it, I outran it. It was still square when it hit the ground. But it snapped the front drive shaft. Cost me $170 bucks. But I was Tickle to death. 💪
My first ever "Hot Rod" ride was walking on my way home from school with my bud. His bud picked us up in a 67, 289, top loader 4 spd, and of course the first thing he did was mash the pedal and thru the shifter. Planted me in the rear seat while the tires were a'smokin'!!! Been in love with the 66-67 Fairlanes since that day. Thanks for sharing!
Grew up in the same town as Chris. We have a lot of mutual friends from back in the day. It’s nice to see he’s doing well and the car is better than ever. Thank You for this interview !
Hey a Great shout out for Jill for supporting her husband and Scott the 30 year friend. One of if not my favorite cars for beauty. I have a 67 Mercury Comet 202 similar the red Ford sedan. 408w 5 speed.
My dad bought a new 1967 Fairlane wagon with the 500XL trim. Blue on blue. 289 with 3 speed auto. I learned to drive in that car. It carried the family around for 10 years.
Gotta luv a 427 Fairlane. These two are beauties. Chris seems like a great guy. Know an acquaintance with a two door post 427 ‘66. Sweet and rare cars.
Reminds me of the days I had a '67 Mercury Caliente with a 427 Side Oiler, had a lot of fun with that, while it lasted. You got two very nice ford Fairlanes, my friend. I only wish I still had mine. Hind sight is 20/20, lol.
Awesome Evan, I live in Australia and saw a pic of Chris' garage full of vintage Ford Arsenal years ago on the Web.. I just like wow. Over hear you just don't see that stuff. Awesome
Wow , friends , family with all the support whether moral or financial , it's good 👍 . Also love the valve covers . They were the same ones as my first car . A 67 Mercury Cougar GT 390 S code 👍😎 . In 1976
My first car was a red on red ‘67 GTA , someone replaced the 390 with a 428 SCJ. It was so much fun playing with IROC Z cars in the 80s, they couldn’t touch it.
What a car. And I've seen videos of the wagon doing some impressive wheelies. Congratulations to the guy for saving the two-door sedan. Fairlanes are dragstrip authorities!
That ‘67 steering wheel is the only year with the big “Chin Catcher” pad in the center. Don’t ever change it. We had a ‘67 Galaxie 500. Loved it. I also had a ‘66 Cyclone GT with the 390. Awesome car. Yeah, we were a Ford family. 🤷🏻♂️
Willie Smith from Pensacola used to run a original Thunderbolt in NHRA. Willie told me they used the 390 crank because it was lighter and would spin up faster.. They never broke one.
Love the '67 Fairlane. At first look I mistook it for a 67 Chevy II Nova...the car off my dreams I had in my youth! Amazing the similar look of these 2. Cant find one those Nova's that arent way over done and targeted at the track. Maybe I can find a Fairlane for the street. This 67 Fairlane is a beauty or of the most overlooked and underrated Muscle Car's of that Era.
a friend of mine had a four door 67 fairlane and he had a nascar engine put in it and i created the exhaust system for him and if you paid attention you knew there was something going on but not in your face and he would kick as and he could pull the front wheels off the ground at 90 miles an hour, such a sleeper most never caught on till they got beat.
The FE 427 is at the outer limits of cubic inches that can be squeezed out of a block that started out as a 332/352 inch engine....so, not a lot of meat left there. I'm in the process of replacing my worn out top oiler 427 block with a BBM side oiler block that has 36 extra pounds of iron in the main webs ....no cross bolt spacers in this block. The caps are pinned and fit tightly into the webbing , so no walking going on there. Lifter valley is gussetted too. I'll be running a set of Crane ported High Riser Thunder Bolt heads with dual fours in place of the original Low Riser heads and fours. Projected to make in the neighborhood of 550 plus....
What is coming out of the top of the top radiator hose. At first glance I thought it was like a blow off valve or something than realized it's on the radiator hose. Any ideas?
In 1974, I had a '66 390 GT Fairlane, with Ford tri-power, and a top-loader 4 speed. Crane claimed my cam was unstreetable, with advertized 318° duration (252°, at .050 lift), and .584 lift. It (the cam) was lumpy, but it was my daily driver. Those were the days.

Thanks for not letting that car get crushed. Its hard to imagine someone actually doing that.
Oh Barry it does happen. @ricardofierro7041 Awful.
I’m a mopar man But I’ve always liked two Ford Fairlane and I got lotta respect for the 427
Love those Fairlanes!
I feel blessed to able to race with people like Chris. I did not get a chance to talk to him at Maple Grove, but I have met Robert Pond a couple times. Great guys. Thanks to Evan for posting this. I hope Rich Lamont is watching. 🙂
A Wicked Fairlane 500 you gotta love it!💪💀🖤⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️🙏✌️🎉🇺🇸 Thank you Chris and Evan for this great story!🙏✌️🎉🇺🇸🎊
I had a 66 Fairlane GT. Came with 4 speed manual and 390ci motor. Loved that car!
Yeah, and ^this guy was doing God's work by saving that burgundy '66 Fairlane from the crusher!
Wow!!! His story is damn near identical to mine!!! On This car being his first! I also purchased a 67 289 auto!! Worked a whole summer for a Brick mason, saved 1000$ and brought it home! In 1990!!!

Great Car, Great story!
I had a '67 Fairlane Hardtop which I still thinks is the most attractive '60's car
I ran a 520 lift 300° duration hydraulic cam in my 66 falcon. It was an optional Cobra Jet grind. It would go to 7500 without any powwe loss. I love those Fairlanes! One of my favorite body styles! And that one sounds great! Have a wonderful day!!!

Besides having a nice car he’s also a very smart man, he left California!!!
And 12 months a year we can enjoy our cars, sometimes at a beautiful beach, or in the beautiful mountains. Yea... CA sucks.
@ someone clearly missed the point!
😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
Fearsome Fords!
My favorite car, which was rarely seen back in the eighties when I started driving/cruising.
I like these Fords!
Old school. " Pure" drag racing !!!
Awesome car with a awesome story, I grew up with 67 Fairlane wagon in the family. Love the front ends!!
Was so great to be a part of this, thanks again man!
You do a fantastic job getting all the details in your interviews. Nice work!
Anyhow, I'm a Chevy man but I appreciate any car where massive effort is put into it. These two Fairlanes are awesome.

This is why I'm building one of the old 460 blocks. They are indestructible.
My '67 F100 has a 460 I built, with a C6 that has guts from one that was behind a 6.9 diesel. It is a beast, with unGodly torque.
I put one in a 67fairlane. Didn't have room to put Manifold or headers on. Still had 289 spring, Since I took the day off of work and did all the work, I took it for a romp down the street before I took it out. Was at the drag boat races in Waco tx years ago and there was a guy running a junkyard 460 in the 7 second class. He was beating everyone.
Thanks for keeping the 427FE & Fairlane's alive Chris! Thanks for the video Evan!
Great video! Thanks for featuring this car
My first ever "Hot Rod" ride was walking on my way home from school with my bud. Thanks for this interview with Chris.
What a great car and story, oh yeah and what a great car!! Love it Evan. Thanks to both of you.
What a great interview and cool Fairlane. Thank you so much.
I appreciate that the interior is still very clean and stock-looking. It doesn't look like it would be much work to turn it back into a street car.
My dad bought a new 1967 Fairlane wagon with the 500XL trim. Blue on blue. 289 with 3 speed auto. I learned to drive in that car. It carried the family around for 10 years.
Great vid Evan, really enjoyed!!! 👍🏁

Wow , friends , family with all the support whether moral or financial , it's good 👍 . Also love the valve covers . They were the same ones as my first car . A 67 Mercury Cougar GT 390 S code 👍😎 . In 1976

That is one bad mother right there, i'm a die hard GM guy, but this thing is incredible!
Love all three of these cars
The 67 Fairlanes are awesome cars.
My first car was a red on red ‘67 GTA , someone replaced the 390 with a 428 SCJ. It was so much fun playing with IROC Z cars in the 80s, they couldn’t touch it.
FE ENGINES ARE WAY COOL!
FE stands for Freakin Expensive! LOL!! Great video.

That's a super nice car, my favorite track to run as well
What a car. And I've seen videos of the wagon doing some impressive wheelies. Congratulations to the guy for saving the two-door sedan. Fairlanes are dragstrip authorities!
Gotta love the Fairlane and with an FE to top it off. Wow!
Great Video as always !
One of my all time favorite cars. Where in NC? I moved to the Concord area from CA. Raced many years in CA
Love these cars. Mario Andretti won the 1967 Daytona 500 with one of these.
Great video! Beautiful Fairlane.

Really enjoyed this video
Willie Smith from Pensacola used to run a original Thunderbolt in NHRA. Willie told me they used the 390 crank because it was lighter and would spin up faster.. They never broke one.
Love them EF cords thanks.
Love old school Ford power 💪🏼
Simple, Sweet, and it Works! Great car and video.....thanks.
Great car. I loved the skinny on compression ratios. I did not know. I thought stock was... stock.
Super nice looking Fairlane
Love the '67 Fairlane. At first look I mistook it for a 67 Chevy II Nova...the car off my dreams I had in my youth! Amazing the similar look of these 2. Beautiful cars.
I love the squarelanes, I had a 67 in HS and wish I could have kept it
a friend of mine had a four door 67 fairlane and he had a nascar engine put in it and i created the exhaust system for him and if you paid attention you knew there was

That's REALLY revving for an FE... 👌
What a great car and great person🤩
What an amazing car 👍👍
What is coming out of the top of the top radiator hose. At first glance I thought it was like a blow off valve or something than realized it's on the radiator hose. Any ideas?
That's a one-way valve for force-cooling the engine using ice water.
