Here's a tip of mine that usually works on Spy: If you have to uncloak nearby the enemy team, try syncing the decloak sound up with a Demo disguise calling for medic, it usually works for me to just fully overlap the sound of decloaking

This video makes me feel much better about my spy play When you see kill comps and montages, people can make spy looks see easy Nah man, spy is hard, mistakes are common
My #1 reason why I love playing Spy are mind games. Its so satisfying completely knowing their next move if I do a certain action. I know that they know I am near, but last time this happened I noticed they spent a solid 10 seconds hunting me until I simply played bad (movement, nad cloak management, etc) and got caught. So next time, I purposely make myself visible to that person, then just go to some other place and they will waste a solid 30 seconds, longer than if I just backstabbed them, seeking something that isn't there. I can use that to my advantage the next time I see them. Then they realise and the cycle starts again, trying to find the best way to waste their time, be that killing them otright or having them go on a wild goose chase. The feeling of doing certain things just right to make a certain player tick is so satisfying.
Having seen you in action I can say you're not an amazing top-tier spy, but you are balanced as a player. So while you don't always get the stab, you can still guarantee the kill or sap more often than not through conventional means alone. And that I'd say is the mark of a damn fine gamer that can learn from their mistakes.
My favorite part about playing spy is failing to stab a demo, cloak with the cloak&dagger, and watch as he desperately hits every wall, every corner, every square inch of the room to try and find me and let my team push forward. It makes me feel truly devious watching him having a panic attack
Pretty good work overall, maintaining nearly a 2:1 is hard as spy in general. A lot of good points shown too, GUN is obvious but often over looked, the fact that some openings appear out of no where. How luck sometimes just screws you over. Good footage.
We need more footage of u just playing spy . Your videos tought me how to play the class and showed footage of those exact situations, but in the footage you can see how u combind all of that knowlage and just use it casually.

Very useful to switch to other classes to make the other team let their guard down, and also to have tine to think what you should do in this situation as a spy.
Hey, great video! This could help out a lot of new spy players trying to learn the class! I'll give off some tips that you should or MUST do when playing spy. First of all don't disguise as a pyro. Sometimes when you disguised as a pyro, you might be missing a head and it's a bug (don't also disguise as a demo man sometimes when you disguised as a demo man your demo might be missing a leg). It's better much off using a scout, medic, and spy disguise since it won't slow you off and there's no bugs. Second, when you're about to disguise have a habit of cloaking and then disguising. If you did the vise versa you'll leave a smoke trail behind you while your still disguising which is pretty bad. Third, when you missed a stab on an enemy it's better to cloak away for now and prepare for the next stab. Third, when your teammates just capped and you're running low in HP and currently in the enemies backline just undisguise so you won't get traced by the enemies when they just respawned. Lastly just have fun! Anyway, I hope you make more great videos like this one !!

I'm a pyro main and I used to find spy quite boring but your tip of using stock invis instead of cloak n dagger is a real game changer and it made me enjoy playing spy much more. Instead of spending 3 minutes sneaking behind lines just to die because a heavy turned around it encourages you to just walk behind the enemies and if you stab them you stab them.

So I've recently had an idea for a new spy sapper and wanted to hear your opinion on it. Introducing: The Disabler •sapper does no damage to buildings, however it will remain permanently until removed •+100% sapper health The general idea is to force engineers to have to move to the sapped building and remove the sapper if they want to actually use them, as engineers can't remotely destroy sapped buildings, which could force them either to run into any ambushes you might set up or go back to spawn to quickly change class to another and back, wasting their already set up infrastructure and/or any kills they might have on their sentries if they're running frontier justice. This would pair up well with the increased sapper health, distracting the engie for longer, and allowing you and your team more time to take advantage of it. If such an idea was already around then i'm sorry for claiming it, as I hadn't seen anything like that being discussed, and would have liked to finally have a solid sidegrade to the sapper that is actually worth using imo
hey jonto, i don’t think you’ll see this, but if you do, what war paint do you use? it doesn’t look like an australium knife because of the handle, but it looks very nice.
I respect spy mains. -Almost no one will say that.- Spy is very hard to learn and play, so people who are smart and insane enough to main him deserve respect.
As a spy, if I’m making good plays and then the other team becomes spy aware, I don’t want other spies on my team. Because then the team stays aware if I switch back onto spy. Kind of annoying. And as you mentioned, it makes it easier to distinguish if it is a disguised enemy spy.
Hey Jonto, have you got any tips for keeping your cool while playing Spy? I find that virtually everytime I die (about 90% atleast), I always, if not rage, then atleast while or complain, and I'll admit it, maybe even cry a little. This is why I generally stick with 2fort instant respawn servers, your death carries little weight. You respawn right after you die, and the game never ends anyway. I feel that if I was a bit better at Spy consistently, and if I could play about every game as I played that game you looked over on your livestream, I would enjoy playing Spy on casual a lot more. The problem is that I can't improve and play at that level consistantly because I always end up ragequitting and then join a 2fort community server every single time I give casual a shot.
You really, really have to look for he REASON you died. I haven’t got anything else other than saying that it’s a mental habit you need to break or else you won’t improve. Oh and yeah staying on 2Fort instant respawn will also prevent you from improving, in fact 2Fort is terrible for spy.
Something I'd say is genuinely just don't fret about dying too much, Spy is a class that's the most vulnerable when doing their intended job, unless you're going gunspy. You're going to die, you're going to make unfortunate plays, you're going to have games where you get one kill and die every single time, that's just a part of how Spy is balanced tbh. There's no shame in dying, or not being good at spy yet, when I first started out, I was a nervous wreck. Nowadays I'll go around as gunspy surviving fights on like 3 hp against swarms of players and have my friends watching go fucking nuts when I somehow make it out between a mix of gunplay and trickstabs. It's staying calm and keeping a good mental attitude that helps, I would not be able to do that if I wasn't as calm as can be. Laughing at your misfortune, especially the more ridiculous can help too. I have been random crit in the dumbest ways so many times I just laugh it off every time. You can't help it, it's dumb, it's funny as fuck at times In the wise words of Woolen: "do not fret"
@@Jontohil2 Doesn't Meet The Spy take place on 2fort? One criticism give this gameplay is that he relies on the Pyro and Sniper disguises way too much, causing the others to spy-check those classes more. Every class has its fair share of perks and opportunities: Scout is easily suspected but has a reason to be at the front lines. The soldier is slow, but since most spies stick to faster classes they have lower detectability. Pyro is a good speed with good reason to be at the front lines but is highly used by spies, making them very detectable. Demoman isn't the best speed, but he isn't particularly slow and, like with Soldier, his speed causes most spies not to use him, decreasing detectability. Heavy is slow and impractical in most situations, but he is incredibly unlikely to be suspected as a spy, and the most likely for an enemy Medic to focus on or Ubercharge. Engineer is mostly confined to his nest, which increases detectability outside the nest and discovery of clones, but gives you a reason to be near a nest and an opportunity to sap at whatever you believe to be the right time. Medic is fast, easily able to get behind enemies, has reason to move erratically, and does not walk into other 'teammates', but can be detected easily by noticing them not healing. Sniper stays at the backlines and has decent speed, allowing him to gain trust until someone steps in front of him and becomes an easy pick, but him not peering into a scope makes him easily detectable (Crouching constantly can weaken this downside, but doing this and playing as sniper too much will give away your habits and hurt your gameplay a ton). He may also be suspected of running into the front lines. Spy is a good speed, able to run out of the enemy team and pretend he was just escaping, but also highly detectable and commonly spy checked. It's good to constantly change classes to keep them on their toes. My main disguises are Pyro and Demoman for general play, Engie for eliminating nests, Sniper when I need to lay off Pyro and Demo for a bit, and Medic as a wildcard. I do tend to use other disguises when their times come up, but those are your best bets for spy routines (At least for me).
Hey jonto, what advice would you give a spy main that has 1500+ hours of trade_plaza experience and can barely play casual? (totally asking for a friend)

5:56 According to the killfeed, you missed, and the Scout got the kill.
Hey jonto, what advice would you give a spy main that has 1500+ hours of trade_plaza experience and can barely play casual?
(totally asking for a friend)
You should play on Uncletopia for one of these. The general skill level is higher so you get away with a lot less as spy
