Okay, the reason to fully remove the bolt is so you can load it easier. You put the round directly into the extractor claw which is like half way around the case head. It doesn't feed from a magazine, so you can have a massive extractor.

What the 950JDJ did to those torsos is what I imagine a Bolter from Warhammer 40k would do.
Except the 950JDJ does it through the sheer girth of the bullets rather than the bullets exploding.

To be fair, the .950 casing is based on a 20 mm autocannon casing, which is right on the line between gun and cannon, so I'd say it's a reasonable result.
