I met Francesca James & had lunch with her in 2020. She's a beautiful person. I was working for her best friend, Susan & that's how I ended up meeting her.
Jennifer bassey needs her own show... without guests. She is fabulous high life and now resembles the equally fabulous late Martha Raye. lol Thank You Francesca for the wealth of stories. Beautiful and thank you Alan 😘
Just a wonderful conversation, thank you Alan. I could listen to a whole series with Francesca James! In fact, would love to have her back again to hear more in-depth stories about her producing time on Santa Barbara, DOOL, GH, LOVING and so on!
I second that, Megan. Both ladies were wonderful and possessed excellent recall of events. Francesca should be interviewed for the Emmy Legends series for the Television Academy. In fact, I think I’ll email them with this idea and suggest Alan as the interviewer. One of the fellows they use is just dreadful. He knows nothing about the genre.
I would like Marcy and Jennifer reunited and also A Martinez and Marcy Walker. Thanks for this, I love all the wonderful words about Marcy and also about the Supercouple A and Marcy. Maybe one day it will work out.
Francesca James was my favorite AMC actress when I was a child watching AMC during school vacations and one day a week on my half day, especially Kelly. Fascinating learning why Kelly left the show so she could become a director. I was so happy to see her acting again on the AMC reboot and only wish it had continued. This was a particularly fascinating interview about the behind the scenes of soaps!
I was a writers assistant at "General Hospital" when Francesca James came back to produce there (during the Wendy Riche/Claire Labine era) and the entire cast and crew loved her. She knew the genre of soaps and the medium of television as good as anyone in the business. And I was an "All My Children" fan too, so it was fun hearing her tell bts stories now and then :) Just a really smart, warm and humble person, am so happy to see her here, she looks great!
I was ten years old when I would come home after school and watch Francesca James as Marcy on One Life To Live. She was AMAZING. In fact, I remember losing interest in the show after Marcy died. I still remember her final scene; she and Bernie Grant (Steve Burke) struggling with a gun, and the look on her face when it went off. WHOA! Flash forward a few years and my sister gets me hooked on All My Children, and my first reaction to seeing her as Kitty was, "Oh no! It's crazy Marcy!" She is such an amazing and endearing actor. Ms. James is definitely one of the most talented and interesting people in daytime history. Hell, she could probably read an old phone book and I would be spellbound. Thank you very much for this interview.
Ms. Francesca James : I had no idea you had such a FULL CAREER in daytime ! THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU. for all your behind the scenes in producing, directing, and just a keen insight and love for ALL the decades FANS have watched. you said two things on your return to ALL MY CHILDREN. You wanted to give Ms. Nixon another Emmy for BEST SHOW... AND to at last see Ms. Susan Lucci the MOST DESERVED Best Actress WIN... both of these happening under your wing. you are a lovely WOMAN. be well... godspeed . in 1980 I fell in love with ALL MY CHILDREN, first serial to become "addicted"....watched all the way thru the internet .
Bummer Jennifer was in and out so much, especially when talking about Marcy Walker. they had such great chemistry, sad to hear they are not still in touch.
Thanks for this one Alan. It was wonderful to see Francesca-she's still beautiful and was one of my favorites on AMC.She reminded me of Olivia DeHavliland-that timeless beauty. I loved her character of Kitty. That said, GL was always my show.
This was so Excellent!! Francesca is so missed. Keep up the good work. Hopefully she can return. What about an interview with A Martinez, Marci Walker, Julia Barr, Charles Frank and Susan Blanchard?
I remember Jennifer (then Joan) first from "Somerset." She was a nurse (Dorothy Conrad) who was Dr. Jerry Kane's ex-wife who apparently had supported him financially through medical school only for him to divorce her and later marry Heather Lawrence (Audrey Landers). When she surfaced in Somerset, she was unhinged and subsequently shot Jerry after holding him hostage. Jennifer was excellent in the part! Despite Dorothy killing the beloved Muffin (the Kanes' dog) months earlier, I actually felt sorry for Dorothy, who you sense had been used by the younger Jerry Kane (James O'Sullivan) then tossed aside. Jennifer gave a stellar performance and I still remember it to this day!
Loved seeing these ladies. Another great interview! A tribute show to David Canary would be wonderful. Maybe Julia Barr couldn't say no to that! Thanks, Alan.
This was even more fascinating than the Agnes Nixon tribute show with Susan Lucci and Erika Slezak. So much insight given into how soaps are made! It would be killer to have a show with the two Opals from AMC - Dorothy Lyman and Jill Larson. Such amazing careers, and vastly different takes on an iconic soap opera character. And by sheer coincidence, they went to high school together. You have to make this happen.
This was amazing--Francesca James despite a few tiny mistakes (she was not on the original cast of AMC) has far better recollection of a lot of this than other soap people I've seen and should write a book. I do wish someone would have asked Francesca about being EP at All My Children during their groundbreaking Mike Delaney/Kevein Sheffield long gay storyline. They mention Edge of Night's Maeve McGuire coming on to play a role but not that she played poor Kevin's homophobic mother.
She wasn’t the first twin either. Edge of Night had a similar twin story in 1966-68 with the wealthy murderess Laura Hillyer, played by Guiding Light’s Millette Alexander, committing suicide by driving off a cliff in her sable coat and coming back six months later as her long lost twin Julie Jamison. Love of Life and Search for Tomorrow also had twin stories in the late 50s and early 60s. But, no one should possess as much useless soap trivia as I!
@@markfaulkner5626 Also, on Dark Shadows, Lara Parker played Angelique and her twin sister Alexis in 1970. I don’t blame Francesca for not knowing that, but she shouldn’t make misleading statements, either.
This was an awesome interview! Jennifer Bassey was such a hoot as Marian and I always loved seeing the character. Francesca ran AMC well when she was EP and steered a lot of great storylines, including the plane crash story that was referenced. It's a shame ABC brought in Jean Dadario Burke, who seems like a nice woman but was just a weak EP.
The Locher Room needs to do a show w/Jennifer Bassey & Marcy Walker!
Would be amazing to see Marcy again.

I may just do that, Megan. She's a fascinating interview. Thanks for watching.
Thank you, Mark!

Good conversation
Glad you enjoyed it.
Jennifer's a riot!!!

Thanks again!

That's true.
Alan, thanks for doing this. Wonderful show!
You're very welcome, Robert! Glad you enjoyed.
Jennifer is Magnificent.
She certainly is. Thanks, John.
Alan, how about interviewing Julia Barr????
Thanks, Freeman. I've tried!
Can you please track down Kate Dezina. Estelle was my all time favorite. I miss Kate so much.

@@rhsharp It's possible that she thought she was telling the truth!
@@KJTV67 I don’t think she was willfully lying; she was just mistaken.

👍👍👍👍
I can see Ms. Bassey as a Lois Kibbee type!
