Roger Thorpe was one of the most emotionally complex characters in daytime soap history and Michael Zaslow was so eminently talented play that character so convincingly. It's so hard to believe he was only 54 when he died.
Michael Zaslow was my favorite of all daytime actors. So much charisma, so much talent! His journey opened my eyes to how awful ALS is. When my closest friend was diagnosed with ALS in 2018, he didn't have to explain to me what it was, or how it would change him. It was awful, but I at least had the knowledge that it was super important to value every minute we had left together.
So sorry for your friend and for your loss. What a gift you were/are to each other! My friend's husband was afflicted with this cruel disease. Michael Zaslow's vocal musculature eventually silenced him but his soul's voice became deafening. He really left a very large footprint in this world. I hope you and your friend's family are doing all right.
Different writers, different version of Mindy but Kimberley was seriously underrated...and one of my 90s faves along with a similarly written Billie Reed (Lisa Rinna) on Days. Kimberley when u and Queen McKinsey left the show it was never quite the same. U r missed! It’s truly special getting to see u again and giving tribute to Michael. All the best to u!
I’d also like to add a huge Thank You for this wonderful opportunity to remember the Legend, Michael Zaslow. Michael should have had a room full of Emmys for Best Actor, he was robbed so many times by the academy.
Liz Denehy I havent seen since 31 years when she played Blake! Good for inviting her to be on. Sorry Sherry couldn't make it I was looking forward to seeing her. So good to see all that participated.
That's a wonderful, but a inspirational speech that Michael Zaslow gave at the Daytime Emmy Awards in 1994. Also, He & Wendy Moniz was co-presenters at the Daytime Emmy Awards in 1996! You did a great job doing The Tribute Show for Michael Zaslow, he will truly be missed!
Thank you sooooo much, Alan. As I said in the live stream, this is the ONLY good thing to come out of this awful covid times. Your videos are greatly appreciated.
Alan you knocked it out of the park this was an amazing episode and beautiful tribute to a beautiful on and off the screen. I am now 55 years old I had no idea that Michael zaslow was only 54 when he died wow that is so young in deed! Listening to his daughter and his castmates speaking so beautifully about him and what protector he was of his co co-stars. I'm sorry that Finola was having such technical difficulties I really wanted to hear every word that she had to say about Michael zaslow.. and Kim Sims was my absolute favorite Mindy..
This Tribute was so emotional and moving I just can't put into words. I can go on and on about GL and Michael, been a fan since I could remember! I cant thank you enough Alan for doing this tribute to one of the greatest actors of all time. And the one with Beverlee was outstanding as well. They were indeed two powerhouses of daytime! The early 90s GL was on fire!
BEAUTIFUL TRIBUTE TO MICHAEL💗💗💗 ZASLOW WONDERFUL TO SEE EVERYONE AGAIN I'M A LOYAL FAN FROM 1978 INTO ETERNITY FOR ME IT WAS MORE THAN A SOAP OPERA THE CHARACTERS WERE LIKE FRIENDS & FAMILY IF ONLY SHERRY COULD'VE MADE IT WONDERFUL TO SEE THE FIRST BLAKE I REMEMBER HER💗💗 WELL AS BLAKE HAPPY ANNIVERSARY TO JERRY🤗💗💗💗💗💗💗💗💗💗🤗
This was so great, Alan! I was fortunate enough to meet, Michael at a fan event where prior to he was the Grand Marshall of a Christmas Parade in our hometown. I was gawking at him from the front row at a question/answer session and he reached out to me because he could see I was so star struck! What a great memory of mine forever!
Very touching tribute. Thank you so much! I watched Michael Zaslow on One Life to Live. He was such a great actor. How lovely to see his beautiful, daughter. He would be so proud.
Michael Zaslow is definitely one of the all time greats in soaps. So heartwarming to see him still fondly remembered and honored all these years later. What a legacy!
I was sad Sherry couldn't make it..but Elizabeth D showed up! She had alot of crazy things to do in her 1 year on the show (the mystery phone calls during the writers strike that no one knew who she was talking to, the Adam Malick story, the crazy wedding attempt, and finding out Adam Malick was her dad.
Michael Zaslow was one of my favorites, played such a great character Roger Thrope. My husband would even come home when Guilding Light was on to watch what Roger was up to. You are missed Michael .
Alan after watching this I bought a used copy of not that man anymore and inside the book is a personal written note from Susan in the book to old friends. If someone in her family want this copy please let me know.
I only found out about this tribute to Michael Zaslow because I had recently UA-camd his Emmy win that you showed at the end of this video. Would've hated to miss this. It was the Roger/Holly story of the early 90's that drew me in and the shabby, shameful dismissal of Mr. Zaslow that forced me to abandon GL. Excruciating to hear Ms. Garrett say the writers had wanted to keep Roger and Holly together. To have seen them finally heal and become whole as Roger gradually became incapacitated would've been epic storytelling. Epic. Please express my gratitude to Marika Zaslow for appearing on this tribute. It was so comforting to see her and know she is all right and living such a full and meaningful life; I hope having the opportunity to talk about her father and hear again how beloved he was brought her much joy and peace. Thank you, Mr. Lochner, for making this happen.
Wow - thanks for this sweet message, Lorraine. I am so glad you were able to watch this. I hope you take a look around and watch some of the other GL shows. Stay well.
When the Texas team was brought over to produce and write GL, the majority of the cast was written off and the history of the show was no longer mentioned. So basically their GL replaced the beloved classic series and the past erased.
This was great! Micheal seemed like a fantastic person and, of course, he was a great actor. So amazing to see everyone too, and awesome that you were able to get his daughter to participate in this!
Alan, you continue to surprise us and entertain us and I am forever grateful and thankful for your love and continued support of the genre of soap opera. Thank you, Thank you, Thank you!
You know you are a great actor, when you can make someone hate your guts, then love you, too. Michael Z. Oh my GOD...aside from his actor side...so amazing.
Loved Michael and had the pleasure of meeting him at a fan event in CT along with Maeve Kincaid and Wendy Mobile and two other cast members. His presence in the room was incredible. .
This was an awesome tribute to Michael Zaslow; it was really great to hear all the stories from all his co-stars and his daughter. He was one of my favorites actors from Guiding Light. this was a wonderful tribute to such an awesome actor. i cannot begin to explain how michael opened my eyes to als and years later i have continued to keep up with the research of this devastating disease because of the seed he planted. this homage is proof positive that michael was not just a very accomplished actor but a very loved man. i feel as tho I've waited years for this. a big, heartfelt thank you .. to you and your guests.
Thank you so much Alan for the Beautiful tribute of Michael. Zaslow. Well done. Its also good to see how well Marika is doing and all she has accomplished considering her loss back to back. She truly is a strong, women with strength and wisdom and her family is smiling from above. The ending with him winning his only emmy and beautiful speech was priceless.Request could you do a tribute of David Canary from all my children?
Wow. Such a beautiful tribute. So many great stories. While Maureen, Liz, Elizabeth, Fiona, Jerry and Marika were all wonderful, there were so many more great actors that I would have loved to seen as well. Too many to mention that worked with Michael over his almost 30 year span with the show. But just to mention a few that are no longer with us... Robert Millie, Barbara Berjer, Chris Bernau, Beverlee McKenzie. Just to name a few. How awesome would it be to hear from these wonderful people again that worked with Michael. And it is unfathomable to me that it took so long for Michael to not only be nominated but to win an Emmy for Best Actor. It should have happened long before it did. 1980 should have been his year. Again, marvelous tribute. Oh, and poor Fiona. There's always that one person that has wi-fi trouble. This time it was poor Fiona. ❤️
Thank you SO much for doing this. In the mid-80s, my family and I went to NYC for summer vacation. During the intermission of a play we saw, we went to the lobby and I saw Michael Zaslow in the crowd. But it seemed like I was seeing Roger Thorpe, himself. I was actually scared. LOL
Words cannot convey how amazingly special this is...so many memories...and it was wonderful to hear about Michael from the family side. Thank you Alan for assembling this group, and especially showing the clip at the end. I had not seen that since it aired live.
I told UK Soap Fans about what they did and they were appalled. They always do their best to help folks and teach them. Over the years they have hired Child Actors who have Down's Syndrome, who are in a Wheelchair, Have Cerebal Palsy even a real life FTM Actor. With ALS they would have shown how challenging it is to have it and and they have also done The Ice Bucket Challente.
Thanks Alan for doing this as we'll never forget the man and the legend of Michael Zaslow. It was good to see everyone including his daughter too, his legacy will never be forgotten. Have a great weekend and see you next week, can't wait to see the tribute for the great late Agnes Nixon who laid the groundwork for AMC and OLTL to come to life. Have a great one.

@The Locher Room - Thank you Alan for doing the tribute to Michael Zaslow. I just found out that this was on today, March 23 even though I am signed up for notifications . . Great tribute to watch today. Thank you, Alan, I enjoyed watching .. How awful that “guiding Light” didn’t know how to handle Michael’s diagnosis of ALS.!!! Now, 2 soaps have written in Alzheimer’s for 2 characters. - GH and YR!!!
wow just ran across this oh the memories and how i miss my fav soaps guiding light and awt i watch with my mom and continued to watch to the end. now as for michael zaslow (roger) the best villi an of all times. i call him roger the dodger
Thank you for this wonderful tribute to one of the baddest ( and I mean that in a good way) Daytime villains ever Rodger Thorpe played by the one and only Michael Zaslow, I still remember the news flash that came on saying he had passed, misty eyes again watching this, Daytime lost one of its great ones...
Thank you so much for doing this! And really for all your wonderful videos! Although I have known who Michael is for ages, it is only the past few years that I have truly come to appreciate his talent. I have been immersed in Old uploads of guiding light and to say he was an asset to the show is a huge understatement. I am currently watching March of 1997 when he was having his problem. But let's face it. Guiding light would never have been the same without him
Where the hell is Lenore Kasdorf??? She was integral to GL. Her character Rita Bauer with Roger Thorpe was fascinating. Their scenes garnered GL their first Emmy win for best show.
i'm not sure, hope she is still around, last i saw her on in the heat of the night as a wife who was wheel chair bound and poisoned by her husband and mistress where the authorities were under the impression she had a heart attack but later found out different, i then recently saw her in her early years as a beautiful model and then on Barnaby Jones here on youtube season 2 episode 18 entitled A gold record for murder featuring Michael Zaslow as her boyfriend who a song writer who was murdered by the singer as a cover up, his girlfriend played by Lenore Kasdorf and the parents hired Barnaby to clear his name and solve his murder, his murder was staged to look like a drug overdose of heroin. she was a great actress and should have been brought back, i'm thinking she was about Maureen's age possibly a little older.
Lenore has a Facebook page and she’s good friends with Marsha Clark who played Hillary Bauer. I know she had a medical issue in the past that caused some paralysis and she’s overcome that. Pam Long wanted to bring Rita back but her agent neglected to tell her of the offer from GL so it never happened. Lenore is just that unique talent that never gets the credit she deserves. She brought a lot of fans into the fold and was a huge talent.
This was a great tribute, and just out of curiosity...because Michael Zaslow was a great romantic interest for Brynn Thayer on "ONE LIFE TO LIVE", and they were friends offscreen, would there ever be a Tribute, Part II, with Ms. Thayer, Robin Strasser and Ava Haddad?
Cindy -- I would recommend donating to the ALS Foundation in his honor. donate.als.org/give/320271/?gclid=Cj0KCQjwutaCBhDfARIsAJHWnHuJA3sikwbFamLp54etHGm05dC3_DvCoSTfMqQLIgiQXap-pKmcyYoaAh0zEALw_wcB&gclsrc=aw.ds#!/donation/checkout?c_src=search&c_src2=google_sitelink
You know the actor is great, when they play a villain you secretly hope would get away with so many things. I love to watch Michael play Roger at his worst, he was so good.
I was so glad when Mr. Zaslow won the Emmy in 1994. He beat out David Canary and Peter Bergman who were perennial winners. Zaslow as Roger Thorpe was so complicated and sexy. He's one of the few soap leading men who had formidable leading women. The Mindy, Alexandra, and Roger storyline was great. I was nine or ten when that played out but I remember it well.
What happened from the time where they were will to tell of Bert Baur’s heslth struggle ( she had her leg amputated? ) to the squeamishness of not want to tell of Michael Zaslow’s Roger’s battle?
NO BETTER VILLAIN EVER!!!!!!! Roger was the true definition of a troubled soul!!!!! But, truly you would want to strangle him one minute and the next plead with Holly to take him back!!!!!!
GL management sucked. When Executive Producer Allen Potter fired Jane Elliott, Douglas Marland quit as HeadWriter and it literally destroyed the classic show. P&G sucked. Whoever was responsible for firing Mart Hulswit as Ed Bauer should have been walked out immediately! In hindsight after Marland quit the Dobson’s should have been brought back to save the show. Sadly it didn’t work out that way.
Jacquie Courtney and George Reinholt were difficult to work with. That's why they were fired from Another World. George Reinholt became a real-life gigolo, escorting rich elderly ladies to swanky parties.
Roger Thorpe was one of the most emotionally complex characters in daytime soap history and Michael Zaslow was so eminently talented play that character so convincingly. It's so hard to believe he was only 54 when he died.
Tragic, Anthony. Thanks for watching this tribute.
@@TheLocherRoom YES is was!
Michael Zazlow was so talented and amazing 👏 my favorite storyline ❤ Holly and Roger
he was the best
Happy Anniversary Jerry, you were the best as Ross! What were GL thinking when they killed you off?!
Michael Zaslow was my favorite of all daytime actors. So much charisma, so much talent! His journey opened my eyes to how awful ALS is. Kimberley knocked it out of the park as Mindy, loved her version.
Yes. It still hurts her about Michael.

GL did two of the greatest returns from the dead stories in 1989- Beth Raines and Roger Thorpe.
Michael was one of my favorite actors on the guiding light no mention of lenore kasdorf rita who was involved with Roger

Hard to believe he's been gone 25 years
It really is, Donta!
Is ZazAngels still an organization? I tried to find it to contribute.
Cindy -- I would recommend donating to the ALS Foundation in his honor.

You know the actor is great, when they play a villain you secretly hope would get away with so many things. I love to watch Michael play Roger at his worst, he was so good.
I couldn't agree more, Renee. Thank you for sharing.
I also grew up on ATWT and GL. My late mother and I loved to guess what was going to happen, next.@@TheLocherRoom
@@reneeparker7475Michael Zaslow was born to play Roger Thorpe on The Guiding Light. The world lost a shining star when Michael died in 1998.
When Holly shot Roger.

This was amazing. Thank you. Is there way you could do a tribute to the late Charles Keating.
I can try, Michael. Thank you for watching.
What happened from the time where they were will to tell of Bert Baur’s heslth struggle ( she had her leg amputated? ) to the squeamishness of not want to tell of Michael Zaslow’s Roger’s battle?
Uterine cancer wasn’t it? There was an important health story with her if I can be clarified.
Great point, Brian. We certainly missed an opportunity to tell great story with amazing actors.
Yes!
Alan you're always pneomenal with these. I wonder if u can get Kim Zimmer and cynthia watros together
Thank you! I appreciate your kind words.
NO BETTER VILLAIN EVER!!!!!!! Roger was the true definition of a troubled soul!!!!! But, truly you would want to strangle him one minute and the next plead with Holly to take him back!!!!!!
Gl should have kept him on. One of many mistakes they made with cast
@ America Cat - They could have addressed real life medical issues but decided not to!!!
@@tomtrout6593 nope, instead they brought in trash as new characters.
Fiona needs to invest in some better wi-fi.
And not kept coming in and out.
OLTL treated Michael with so much compassion and live...GL, not so much
🙏
This gives me another reason to despise Paul Rauch. Letting Jacquie and George go from AW and letting Michael go from GL.
Thanks for watching, Rachel!
Jacquie Courtney and George Reinholt were difficult to work with. That's why they were fired from Another World. George Reinholt became a real-life gigolo, escorting rich elderly ladies to swanky parties.
It’s so annoying the sound it gives me a headache to listen to
I'm sorry she had so much trouble, Debra.
