  • 1:Pitot tube is a tube within the charge pipe that acts as a reference to the incoming stream of air, and has an effect of increasing the pressure to the reference. Its an effective method, when using blow-thru carb setup, for improving fueling on boost.
    2:Fuel Pump and Fuel Pressure Regulator?
    Mallory 4309 and MSD 2225. Total around $180.
    you have to have a fuel pump that can feed at LEAST 3 psi over your peak boost number. Otherwise the boost pressure will prevent the fuel from entering the float bowl.
    You have to have regulator that has a boost reference, so increases fuel pressure as boost increases, otherwise, the boost will prevent fuel from entering the float bowls.

    Awesome vid! Wish I had seen this sooner! I’m trying to setup a very small displacement single cylinder bike with a diy supercharger, and I want to blow thru the carb to get the benefit of the fuel acting as a charge cooler. Thanks for the tips!

    I've heard of people plugging the little holes on the emulsion tubes for the pilot jets, i guess this gives better fuel delivery, the float pressuring is critical too, im glad you mentioned that.💯👌

    One little point I'd like to make note of. Honda carbs are CV style, but they use a special hose in the intake to make the slide lift based in air velocity. Most other manufacturers use a Keihin CV carb where the slide lifts from an opening in the intake side of the carb venturi. No extra hose to consider.

    Tubes on the ride are fuel lines for fuel pressure regulator , small tube vacuum tube
    Carbs are bolted the plenum then sealed , there is a o ring between the plate of the plenum and the carb then welded the top shut

      Ok interesting. I'm thinking to make like a cover on top so I can have access to the carbs if needed.
      And about the other thing, I'm talking about the Large metal part (like a large tube) above the fuel pump, welded to the box. It has a small rubber tube in it. What is that ?

      Rage Cage07 you need to remove the vacuum ports so fuel flows under boost... if u put a fuel pump with a return style fuel pressure regulator you will need a return line fitting put into your tank higher than fuel level or it will restrict the return line and give u sky high fuel pressure and flood out the bike

      the capacity is small. cant have a turbocharger on it. also it needs a intercooling system. which an Enfield doesnt have. as the compressed air is really hot and it may cause knocking.

    • @saradionne4029

      Melwin Daniel Nadar you can use water/meth injection and no intercooler because the water being injected cools air temps in the combustion chamber and the meth is super flammable and will raise octane levels to suppress knock

      I am doing the same thing to a 250 v-twin, I kept the original air box and added a 3 phase BLDC motor with an ESC controlled by the carby's Throttle Position Sensor, you need the carby's air vent/vacuum hoses to connect inline with a Pitot tube to balance float bowl pressure under higher boost. If running higher boost than 5psi you will need an electric fuel pump and regulator otherwise it will run out of fuel at high boost and prob detonate your engine which will melt your pistons, not connecting carby vacuum tubes will have the same result.

    amigo tengo mi moto 220cc le puse un turbo pero a lo q le empiesa a meter aire al carburador se me apaga como hago para presurizar el carburador

  • @septimouse
    @septimouse 9 років тому

    So for example I'm putting a turbo on a 250cc 4 cylinder bike;
    Ill need a 400ml minimum sized plenum (Replace Air Box), to pressurise the carburettor bowl, with pressure from the plenum. Ill need a fuel pressure regulator with a boost refference and a high pressure fuel pump, with the regulator hooked up to the carburettor vacuum(now boost) line.
    Now with this done ill need to re-jet it? and will obviously need really good float needles... What I didn't understand is what you did with the diaphragm breather? Did you just hook that up to the plenum too, that would make sense to me. Also you put a non-return valve on the line going to the bowl, so that under vacuum it doesn't suck fuel back into the plenum right?

    • @saradionne4029
      @saradionne4029 7 років тому +1

      Lynxdragon put the biggest air box u can fit it will make tunning the bike simpler because it will make the boost more stable. you need a efi fuel pump with a boost reference fuel pressure regulator (fmu) you want about 3 psi higher than boost psi (10psi of boost is 13psi of fuel pressure) to help fuel flow or if boost will force the fuel back into your tank. also its a return style so you need to add a return fitting into your tank above the height of fuel level or you will restrict the return and never get a steady fuel pressure.. the line from the air box must go to the fuel bowl vent (same as ram air) to help force fuel in... this is the only way to keep about stock size jets so it will run good on and off boost. and no check valve float bowls vent tube as they are normally under vacuum and will ballance out themselves

    Do you use a one-way valve on the tube that goes from the pitot tube to the float bowl to keep it from sucking fuel out when the engine is under vacuum?

    • @saradionne4029
      @saradionne4029 7 років тому

      vespa400car no because cv carbs are made to be under vacuum so fuel flows under boost the floats need to see a higher pressure to force fuel into the carbs.. as this will also force fuel into the motor... also a big reason why the main jets can stay stock size make sure u use a efi inline fuel pump like in the video but he for gets to tell you to use an fmu you want 3 psi higher that boost psi so fuel will flow and you dont need huge main jets this way idle and out of boost runs well

    • @saradionne4029

      people just google how to turbo a motorcycle... once you read you'll understand everything he is talking about but a pilot tube in the intercooler piping works better to put pressure to the float bowl rather than tapping into the air box as you wouldn't see the correct volume.. the sizing of the air box gets larger with less cylinders (smaller cc) as the exhaust pulse is so far apart you need more volume in the air box to keep pressure steady..... i can go on and on but you can find articles from people who know more just look

    • @anthonyjifkins9428
      @anthonyjifkins9428 5 років тому +3

      @@ridintilldeath9484 He means you need a more powerful pump than the boost from your turbo because the boost pressure will push the fuel back out of the carby up the fuel line into the tank, most pumps are capable of doing 50-100psi or 300lph which is way more than your average turbo and then you will just spray fuel out of your carb and flood it, so then you need a fuel pressure regulator which is adjustable so you can lower the fuel pressure back down to be the same as standard boost psi + 2-3psi as 2-3 psi is standard fuel pressure but it needs to be higher than base level boost pressure, so say you are running a 10psi of boost so you need to set the regulator to 13psi. The regulator has an inlet that allows you to run a line from the turbo to the regulator so as you accelerate and the boost builds up it increases the fuel pressure from the regulator to the carby at a 1:1 ratio of boost to fuel. So that way you will always have a constant equal supply of fuel to your carb. Otherwise as the boost builds up the fuel wouldnt be equal and you will most likely stall at higher revs.

      gareth liddle if u take the air box out you can see the slides and those slides control the height of the needle
      Pressurizing the slides means or what I meant was to connect the vent of the slides diaphragm to a pressure source aka the air box and that will allow the needle to lift under pressure there for you will have more fuel to the motor.

      paloysamu luna moran Maybe I'm wrong but is the fuel pressurised as well? If I'm not mistaken if you're running boost and haven't pressurised the fuel as well the air will push the floats close and there won't be any fuel getting mixed. Does make sense to you?
      In idle you're not getting any boost but when you accelerate you create boost thus closing the fuel feed. Think about it.

    Very cool invention, but wouldn't you need more fuel not only to the carbs from the tank, but to the heads from the carbs? I have a little experience with carbs on bikes, And I know when you give more air it needs more fuel. Maybe the fuel pump is pushing enough fuel thru your stock jets. But don't you think you need to rejet the carbs for it to run properly?

      Wouldn't the air pressure push the floats close and thus blocking any gas from being mixed?

    • @user-ic1pm6uo7w
      @user-ic1pm6uo7w 6 років тому +1

      I don't think so, the float is closed by the fuel level.. if the bowl is pressurized the float is just simply under pressure.. pressure is not directly pushing the float closed - also the fuel pressure is to be set at 3 psi above boost pressure so fuel will enter the bowl when the bowl is pressurized. That's the reason for the boost reference fuel pressure regulator, that regulator will maintain proper fuel pressure in reference to boost pressure.

      @@ridintilldeath9484 anytime you add boost you have to add fuel to maintain air/fuel ratio. That's done by either drilling your jets, or by putting bigger jets in.

    This video is very confusing. Did you mean engine PULSES when you said "plus"? And it sounded like you meant 30% PSI over the boost you want to run, not just 3 psi, because your math did not add up at all. I think it would take much longer than 10 minutes to properly educate people on how to turbocharge a carbureted motorcycle. You also stated that you keave the carbs internals alone. That just cant be true. You would have to change out the jets, adjust needles and everything else involved with tuning a carburetor. What do you mean by the plenum or "pressurizing airbox" pressurizing the slides? Does the air somehow push the slides for the carburetor? Thats what it sounds like from your video but that cant be right. If thats the case, how do the push and pull throttle cables work with that? To me it seemed like it would really help if you knew what all the parts were called un the video and explained what each component does. You tried to explain in detail what a couple rubber hoses did, but didnt explain to anyone what the fuel pressure regulator or other major components do. I think this video will confuse people more than anything or possibly make people think its super easy by the way you generalized motorcycles and their engines and vastly dofferent technology and characteristics. Did you turbo charge this motorcycle yourself or did you pay a shop to do the entire thing and just recorded yourself trying to explain it afterward?

      I don't know the level of your experience. I do know a lot of these people commenting will be thinking it's a easy job.
      I've been researching on this for 8 months. Sooner or later I will have one on my Harley sportster. Before someone attempts it they have to understand what,why and how it all works. Some of the things I've come across blow my mind. I have had to learn things and understand things I didn't know anything about. I had to learn how to seal my carb and pressurize the float bowl. It's crazy what all you have to learn.

      Actually, I learned what I can’t here for. The pilot tube to pressurize the bowls and how to install it. Thanks for the video. It helped.
