I haven't ever fished for mulloway in the river but I've caught plenty at the beach. I don't touch the drag until it is singing and usually after the first bump I'll loosen it off to nothing. You're jumping on the drag way too quickly mate, let em run!
Hey bro we've been fishing for these since late October we've let them do there first run and sometimes second, used different hooks and sizes and used bait runners , loose drag and tight drag ,live bait and dead baits, hook through the nose , hook through the tail and we've only got one to 4m in front of us that spat hook aswell... I'm calling very unlucky....
My PB for a black bream was 55cm a few months before the mass fish kill from the Ascot Raceway spraying for the African black beetle. As a young teen, my best mate's brother used to fish with a crew at the old Swan River Brewery (city side)we would stay overnight and we would fish for live trumpeters and the blokes would use them as live bait this time of the year, omg i still haven't seen mulloway caught that big and im just hitting 60yo maybe give that spot a crack umm not sure if you can fish there its worth a look
@@jw-vx8im what happed is Ascot race way sprayed for the bettal infestation and it rained the next day, now i cant rember the numbers it was front page of the west Australian paper"before the internet" sadly was the time of the year that black bream filled that area and as we know black bream take 20 years to reach breading size so basicaly it killed off all the big breading stock, at the time few weeks before i was catching regualy 38cm-40cm bream my PB was 55cm was never the same after the kill off, however the swan river trust started a breading program to restock the loss, i never fished the river again and focused my efforts at rockingham

Numbers are completely off now mate, that 2.29kg fish at 21 was during the peak of the populations health around 30 years ago, when food was abundant in the Swan and the bream grew faster than any other population Aus wide, their growth however has since declined to more usually seen black bream levels and it now takes around 20 years to reach 1kilo, and 2.3kilo fish are now incredibly rare.

Losing fish because you leave the drag loose fishing with a set drag in secure rod holders hooks far more fish. Those rod holders will lose your rod and reels 😅

Yes, absolutely we use this rig off the boat for demersla fishing too. Except bigger hook and ball sinker we call it the original bottom meat and 🐟🎣💯

Try putting your hook out the same side that you put it in to make it sit out proud.
We've tried all sorts of bait hook ups and hooks since late October so many runs but donuts man😭😭😭

@@jw-vx8im what happed is Ascot race way sprayed for the bettal infestation and it rained the next day, now i cant rember the numbers it was front page of the west Australian paper"before the internet" sadly was the time of the year that black bream filled that area and as we know black bream take 20 years to reach breading size so basicaly it killed off all the big breading stock, at the time few weeks before i was catching regualy 38cm-40cm bream my PB was 55cm was never the same after the kill off, however the swan river trust started a breading program to restock the loss, i never fished the river again and focused my efforts at rockingham

Jimmy a 2.29kg black bream caught in the Swan River was 21 years old. That means if I was a bream I'd be 1283. You do the maths.
Bream are slow growing fish all we need to know really...some people eat them but my days of the fry and fish sauce is a long long time ago 💯
Numbers are completely off now mate, that 2.29kg fish at 21 was during the peak of the populations health around 30 years ago, when food was abundant in the Swan and the bream grew faster than any other population Aus wide, their growth however has since declined to more usually seen black bream levels and it now takes around 20 years to reach 1kilo, and 2.3kilo fish are now incredibly rare.

Watching your content has helped me get through bad times when I was injured at work and my body started to give up. I didn't like the sound of you saying that you were giving up. Losing fish because you leave the drag loose fishing with a set drag in secure rod holders hooks far more fish. Those rod holders will lose your rod and reels 😅
