- MTV: the sad decline of music on television. In 1981, MTV emerged, forever altering music consumption. Founded by Robert Pittman, it pioneered 24/7 music video broadcasting, captivating global audiences. MTV revolutionized television by aligning it with the essence of music - mood, motion, and attitude. From "Video Killed the Radio Star" to showcasing emerging genres like hip-hop and alternative rock, MTV became a cultural icon. TRL and MTV Unplugged bridged artists with fans, while reality TV diversified content. Yet, by the late 1990s, MTV's focus shifted, reflecting changes in media consumption and industry dynamics. Despite this evolution, MTV's impact endures, shaping musical diversity and cultural exploration. It remains a testament to innovation in entertainment, leaving an indelible mark on generations.
