I'm gonna check closely your repo, maybe I'm missing some ENV config on my desktop portal, or try installing the flatpak version instead of the AUR pkg (what I'm currently using with AMD gpu) and see if that works. This is just amazing! I especially love automatic theme changer based on wallpaper. I don't really use complete configurations cause I've installed arch to actually "do it myself" but I will definitely implement your script bc I like to change wallpapers quite often (and I'm not a good designer at all so making a good color scheme for each wp would be troublesome) so you just saved me from pain in the ass, ty. And one quick question about hyprland: Can I use .ico files as well for waybar?
Thanks for your feedback. You can start the VM in the background in the autostart of your window manager. Yes, you need a second GPU. And yes. It works with a multi monitor setup. Host on monitor 1 and the LG window in full screen on monitor 2. waybar doesn’t support ico files. You need to use icon fonts or create an own custom module with an icon png as background image. The ChatGPT icon is made with this.

why not explain how the things work so that each person can configure as they please? As for me, I just want the floating windows to not overflow the screen and it is a mess to understand windowrules from scratch. If I wanted animations and colors and what have you I would not have chosen hyprland. There are no decorations, no animations, no logos: my desktop is a black screen with one pixel border windows and a little gap. Love it
really advanced stuff - is there per chance some written guidance ? In my dreams there would be a distro where this was all the default config ! If there was a book on the subject matter of this playlist, I would buy it !

I have a question about Waybar & Wallpaper. I want to be able to.. when you change the wallpaper it will then pick a certain Waybar theme at same time. absolutely great set of dotfiles, only issue i have encountered is the hyprland.conf line 70 complaining about cannot find colour11 and it doesnt matter what value i change it to it still displays the error, so i just set rgba colour manually and it goes away. so the borders do not change colour when i change wallpapers
@@mylinuxforwork the problem was the space between the chair and the keyboard, i must have caught keyboard whilst viewing the dot file and added u in color all is good, this is the best dotfile config for hyprland i have tried yet. kudos to you fella keep up the good work, we are all learning alot from your videos

Hi. I’m not using a display manager in my setups. But I will try to help you. Can you send me some screenshots that I can understand your issue? What happens if you boot up? And what happens if you disable the SDDM service and start Hyprland with the command?
I cannot get Brave to run worth a crap on Wayland. It runs fine on my X11 Awesome build, but Wayland turns it into a jittery mess with laggy input. TEACH ME YOUR WAYS. As long as you have an Nvidia card cuz I feel like that's what causes most of my issues with Wayland/Hyprland
On my AMD system I never had issues with brave. Pretty sure it's coming from NVIDIA. Do you use proprietary drivers? If yes, you could try to switch to open source?
@@mylinuxforwork I'm running nvidia-open-dkms drivers to power Hyprland. It's been a wild ride of kernel tweaking and building from source but she sure is pretty. It's just not playing nice with Brave and I suspect it's my pipewire setup that might be fighting with it.
I keep getting an error when trying to install `swww`. (Arch Base install) The compiler gives an error at the line: `let mut (_, unused)……;`. I tried editing it and adding the recommendations the compiler stated but still same error. Is this a known current issue? Are there any workarounds? Thanks for good vid, explainations are clear and easy to follow.
There is currently an issue with the AUR package swww to setup the wallpaper in the dotfiles. It's not compiling correctly during the installation procedure. You will not have a wallpaper after the installation. Please install after the dotfiles installation or update version of swww with: sudo rm /usr/lib/debug/usr/bin/swww-daemon.debug (if the file exits) sudo rm /usr/lib/debug/usr/bin/swww.debug (if the file exits) yay -S swww-git Will update you as soon swww has fixed the issue.
So, I can't figure out how to generate the colors-hyprland.conf file. All videos and guides are skipping this step and everything I try throws an error with hyprland.conf. updatewal-swww.sh is no longer in the scripts folder of your dotfiles.

Thank you very much. I suggest that you use the dotfiles installer to install the configuration as a starting point. Then you can read and experiment with the scripts. You can then create your own variations of the Hyprland configuration, or create an own waybar theme, install more applications that you need for your daily work, etc.
Amazing dots but the only issue I am facing is the wallpaper is not applying but terminal colors are updating when I change wallpaper but black screen for wallpaper any idea how to fix that?
Yes I have ran all the scripts plus the wallpapers r downloaded in the right folder and I also tried downloading a wallpaper of the web and applying it with pywal but same issue
@@mylinuxforwork At 4:00 you switched workspaces and the number of workspaces on your waybar increased from 4 to 5. I'm wondering how you got more than 2 workspaces. I don't see anything explicitly declaring them in your hyprland.conf. Just your keybinds to toggle between them. How do I get more than 2 workspaces? My keybinds are the same as yours and aren't toggling between workspaces at all.
on my hyprland config, single monitor, workspaces list is managed automatically so no empty workspaces are shown in the list. so, when i boot, i have only one, leader+2 and nose i have 2, but unless I open something on elws2 it's going to disappear again when i switch back to ws1. your should check hyprland multimonitor support and how it works in yoir case I guess

I use 4k monitor and when i use default monitor.conf my text and icons so tiny . I go to edit monitor config from file and set to 3840×2160'60'2 but my dpi change so bigger. But when i use plasma kde set to 150 dpi everything is good 😢 please help
I am having issues with the wallpaper not loading up right away after a full complete boot. Also when I run the update script with my key commands waybar does not change with the wallpaper why is that? Also is there a way to message you other than youtube?
Sure. You can write an email. Are you using the latest version of the dotfiles? It looks like you’re using the version where the wal folder was missing. Can you send me a screenshot with an error message?
I recently tried Hyprland. In general it works, but I was not able to make OBS record anything nor was I able to run Kdenlive. I tried all instructions for OBS I found but it simply did not show any window sources to record. And Kdenlive was unusable due to heavy UI bugs (white and black bars and areas, flickering). Also UA-cam ran measurably slower and with lower video quality. I have a feeling that Wayland compositors are best for ricing and showing on UA-cam but not as daily driver. So I’m back on X11 without any issues.
I am using Hyprland and Wayland for everything including OBS Studio, external camera, video call with Teams, screen sharing and a Virtual Machine with Windows 11. it requires some testing but it works.
Not everyone need Outlook or Teams. But it’s super easy to create a web app of Outlook and Trams with desktop entry to access them from the application launcher. This is how I use it currently every day.
@@RadhouaneANIBA Yes. Open chromium and Teams. The browser input field should now offer to install teams as an app. Click in this icon. Teams will be opened in a new windiw as app. Cloase it. Open the application launcher rofi and search for teams. The same works with outlook and all other Microsoft 365 apps.

After installing, the default keyboard is always set to DE...this happens after installing qtile, also facing the same issues on hyprland. Please how do i resolve it. I am new to this. The other issue sounds a bit more complicated. Can you check if the folder .cache/wal/templates exists and the file .config/waybar/colors-waybar.css or dotfiles/waybar/colors-waybar.css

@@OshiomaMike Hyprland is using Wayland and, I assume xfce is using Xorg in your setup. Not all applications have Wayland support. There is a compatibility layer with Xwayland but that’s not aleays the solution. Please search in the web for wayland vs Xorg and fond out which Linux configuration is the best for your use cases.

If you're on i3 on arch, I think you should undoubtly switch to sway which is i3 for wayland. It should be just better in every way if I'm correct. So yeah, if hyprland doesn't work for you, then use sway
Where did you get the colors-hyprland in the pywal cache directory? I installed pywal from both offical repo and user repo, hoping it wasn't up to date and I was missing that feature. but it did not auto generate a hyprland file in .cache. I'm running version 3.3.1 any help would be appreciated.

All in one video. Do you have preference between Wayland and qtile. I have never used qtile but hear the configuration file is bit difficult. I have used hyprland and the configuration file is super intuitive
Currently I prefer Hyprland honestly. Especially the additional apps like waybar etc. are extremely customizable. But I don’t need to worry about the choice. I have installed Qtile and Hyprland side by side on my machine.

Sorry to hear that. You can find the hypridle configuration for hyprlock in this file dotfiles/hypr/hypridle.conf You can try to disable some of the listeners. And please make sure that hypridle and hyprlock are up to date.

I dont understand the hyperland hype... its not only impractical it also looks shit and it isnt even pixel perfect or hight quallity. You could do the same with a custom plasma 6 (KWin Compositor) theme in pixel perfect and ultra sharp edges.

I have a question about Waybar & Wallpaper. I want to be able to.. when you change the wallpaper it will then pick a certain Waybar theme at same time. I have used your dotfiles and have made some really nice Waybar themes to match my Wallpaper. I will share them once I complete it. Thanks! Steve M.

absolutely great set of dotfiles, only issue i have encountered is the hyprland.conf line 70 complaining about cannot find colour11 and it doesnt matter what value i change it to it still displays the error, so i just set rgba colour manually and it goes away. so the borders do not change colour when i change wallpapers
The pywal is not initiated correctly. Can you restart your computer and try again? And check if the folder .cache/wal exists.
@@mylinuxforwork the problem was the space between the chair and the keyboard, i must have caught keyboard whilst viewing the dot file and added u in color all is good, this is the best dotfile config for hyprland i have tried yet. kudos to you fella keep up the good work, we are all learning alot from your videos

I am currently using pipewire and pavucontrol to setup audio. You can use pavucontrol with pulseaudio as well.

I cannot get Brave to run worth a crap on Wayland. It runs fine on my X11 Awesome build, but Wayland turns it into a jittery mess with laggy input. TEACH ME YOUR WAYS. As long as you have an Nvidia card cuz I feel like that's what causes most of my issues with Wayland/Hyprland
On my AMD system I never had issues with brave. Pretty sure it's coming from NVIDIA. Do you use proprietary drivers? If yes, you could try to switch to open source?
@@mylinuxforwork I'm running nvidia-open-dkms drivers to power Hyprland. It's been a wild ride of kernel tweaking and building from source but she sure is pretty. It's just not playing nice with Brave and I suspect it's my pipewire setup that might be fighting with it.
I keep getting an error when trying to install `swww`.

The compiler gives an error at the line: `let mut (_, unused)……;`. I tried editing it and adding the recommendations the compiler stated but still same error.

Many isers are reporting currenty issues with swww. Is this error happening with yay -S swww
There is currently an issue with the AUR package swww to setup the wallpaper in the dotfiles. It's not compiling correctly during the installation procedure. You will not have a wallpaper after the installation. Please install after the dotfiles installation or update version of swww with:
sudo rm /usr/lib/debug/usr/bin/swww-daemon.debug (if the file exits)
sudo rm /usr/lib/debug/usr/bin/swww.debug (if the file exits)
yay -S swww-git
Will update you as soon swww has fixed the issue.
So, I can't figure out how to generate the colors-hyprland.conf file. All videos and guides are skipping this step and everything I try throws an error with hyprland.conf. updatewal-swww.sh is no longer in the scripts folder of your dotfiles.
The colors-hyprland.conf template is available here. gitlab.com/stephan-raabe/dotfiles/-/tree/main/wal/templates?ref_type=heads Pywal use this template to generatec a file in .config/wal/ and this is then included in hyprland.conf. Is Pywal installed correctly?

Honestly, I really don’t know how to disable it. Maybe defining static values for the colors in alacritty.toml could work.

Thank you very much. I suggest that you use the dotfiles installer to install the configuration as a starting point. Then you can read and experiment with the scripts. You can then create your own variations of the Hyprland configuration, or create an own waybar theme, install more applications that you need for your daily work, etc.

Yes I have ran all the scripts plus the wallpapers r downloaded in the right folder and I also tried downloading a wallpaper of the web and applying it with pywal but same issue

How do I get more than 2 workspaces? My keybinds are the same as yours and aren't toggling between workspaces at all.
on my hyprland config, single monitor, workspaces list is managed automatically so no empty workspaces are shown in the list. so, when i boot, i have only one, leader+2 and nose i have 2, but unless I open something on elws2 it's going to disappear again when i switch back to ws1.
your should check hyprland multimonitor support and how it works in yoir case I guess

I use 4k monitor and when i use default monitor.conf my text and icons so tiny . I go to edit monitor config from file and set to 3840×2160'60'2 but my dpi change so bigger. But when i use plasma kde set to 150 dpi everything is good 😢 please help

I am having issues with the wallpaper not loading up right away after a full complete boot. Also when I run the update script with my key commands waybar does not change with the wallpaper why is that? Also is there a way to message you other than youtube?
Sure. You can write an email. Are you using the latest version of the dotfiles? It looks like you’re using the version where the wal folder was missing. Can you send me a screenshot with an error message?

I recently tried Hyprland. In general it works, but I was not able to make OBS record anything nor was I able to run Kdenlive. I tried all instructions for OBS I found but it simply did not show any window sources to record. And Kdenlive was unusable due to heavy UI bugs (white and black bars and areas, flickering). Also UA-cam ran measurably slower and with lower video quality.
I have a feeling that Wayland compositors are best for ricing and showing on UA-cam but not as daily driver.
So I’m back on X11 without any issues.
I am using Hyprland and Wayland for everything including OBS Studio, external camera, video call with Teams, screen sharing and a Virtual Machine with Windows 11. it requires some testing but it works.

Not everyone need Outlook or Teams. But it’s super easy to create a web app of Outlook and Trams with desktop entry to access them from the application launcher. This is how I use it currently every day.

@@RadhouaneANIBA Yes. Open chromium and Teams. The browser input field should now offer to install teams as an app. Click in this icon. Teams will be opened in a new windiw as app. Cloase it. Open the application launcher rofi and search for teams. The same works with outlook and all other Microsoft 365 apps.

Please I am having problems with colors, hypr isnt accepting generated colors from wal and neither is waybar. everything else works flawlessly.
Can you check if this file is available in your waybar folder gitlab.com/stephan-raabe/dotfiles/-/blob/main/waybar/colors-waybar.css?ref_type=heads and then try it again.

Nice video bro, but i always have issues with your configuration. After installing, the default keyboard is always set to DE...this happens after installing qtile, also facing the same issues on hyprland. Please how do i resolve it. I am new to this. The other issue sounds a bit more complicated. Can you check if the folder .cache/wal/templates exists and the file .config/waybar/colors-waybar.css or dotfiles/waybar/colors-waybar.css

@@OshiomaMike Hyprland is using Wayland and, I assume xfce is using Xorg in your setup. Not all applications have Wayland support. There is a compatibility layer with Xwayland but that’s not aleays the solution. Please search in the web for wayland vs Xorg and fond out which Linux configuration is the best for your use cases.

Thank you. I’m using Hyprland with Wayland and Qtile with Xorg with similar user interfaces. My base system is Arch Linux but I’m also testing with NixOS in a VM. I backup all my dotfiles on Gitlab.

If you're on i3 on arch, I think you should undoubtly switch to sway which is i3 for wayland.
It should be just better in every way if I'm correct. So yeah, if hyprland doesn't work for you, then use sway

Where did you get the colors-hyprland in the pywal cache directory? I installed pywal from both offical repo and user repo, hoping it wasn't up to date and I was missing that feature. but it did not auto generate a hyprland file in .cache. I'm running version 3.3.1 any help would be appreciated.

Thanks for your comment. I have two GPUs installed on my computer. AMD as my main GPU and Nvidia for GPU passthrough to virtual machines. Currently für Windows 11 as shown in the video. With this setup I could test the Nvidia support with Hyprland in a VM in the future. Stay tuned…

All in one video. Do you have preference between Wayland and qtile. I have never used qtile but hear the configuration file is bit difficult. I have used hyprland and the configuration file is super intuitive
Currently I prefer Hyprland honestly. Especially the additional apps like waybar etc. are extremely customizable. But I don’t need to worry about the choice. I have installed Qtile and Hyprland side by side on my machine.

Sorry to hear that. You can find the hypridle configuration for hyprlock in this file dotfiles/hypr/hypridle.conf You can try to disable some of the listeners. And please make sure that hypridle and hyprlock are up to date.

Do you have an output on your second GPU? Every setup is very different and GPU requires a lot of experimenting.

I dont understand the hyperland hype... its not only impractical it also looks shit and it isnt even pixel perfect or hight quallity. You could do the same with a custom plasma 6 (KWin Compositor) theme in pixel perfect and ultra sharp edges.
