People putting their input into what a company should do when in reality what people should simply do is determine if the product is worth it to them or not.
The easiest way to save the franchise is to overhaul the game so all previous expansions and season passes (not necessarily activities) are again accesible. If they had no plans for a D3 THISs should have been the priority. Having both D1 and D2 toguether
Having Season passes be replayed would be nice. I did all of them but if we can ever re-earn them a second time for those who already did them I'd do it again 100%
I don’t think the Devs are tired of Destiny. I think they are tired of Management making Destiny impossible to succeed with. Everyone they have good will, some BS happens. I think rather than a new Destiny or a Destiny 1 remake… they need a “Destiny: World” where it’s the true entire experience. Kind of like how Hitman united all the games into one launcher. New players have no context because half the game and the story was vaulted. And most of the best loot can’t even be earned. A rebuilt Destiny, in a new Engine, 60fps locked, with the story IN THE GAME, and a Hitman style “tile” layout that lets you play the campaign in clearly defined segments that present the timeline of events in-universe.
BINGO FUCKIN EH RIGHT... this has been the problem for so many years but now that sony has acquired bungie they have the means to do so, have an updated d1, d2 and a d3 or when eventually d3 comes out with the new engine making it capable for expanded story and more destinations introducing all of d1s story and d2s vaulted story would be great for context to new players for the history and lore of the games and to be able to experience it in next gen 4k 60fps.
What the community always said: "The only game that is going to kill Destiny... is Destiny". Well, in this case it really got killed by Bungie. Wild to think it survived Destiny 2 launch, but then crumbled ultimately because it became too successful and leadership wanted too much too soon.
they really need to stop making paid for only armor..... makes me not want to play the game cause there no bright dust armor i want to farm for anymore. because they havnt made any in 2 years now,,, besides seasonal event armor.
Bungie, is now just a branch of Sony studios. Especially if Marathon flops, which I think it will, the only money-making game Sony would have got out of their purchase would be Destiny. If this happens Sony will make sure Destiny 3 is made. It will be the only game Sony funds them to make going forward if Marathon is a dud.
The best way to save destiny is to combine both games into 1 game, and let everybody experience the full story and content while they make future stuff.
The talent is there. Management needs a complete overhaul. Sony is going to have to get their hands dirty to get more than "MP experience" value out of Bungie.
Haven't played Destiny in over at least 3 years and I thought of going back but in the end, I don't know if I can stomach doing everything again in one continuous loop. It just feels the same, over and over again.
Truth be told man, every game in existence is repetitive and on a loop doing everything in the continuous loop. Question is, does the repetition feel worth it? That’s the question everyone has to ask themselves. Some devs are good at hiding how repetitive their games are and it goes unnoticed by many. I didn’t notice any repetitive things in D1 and in D2 right up to Forsaken, that’s when Bungie went from being good at hiding their repetition to now showing it and it turns people off.
There was a point where I wanted a remake, but now, I think just putting a mode into D2 where you go through the highlights of the original campaigns from D1 and get some of the cool old weapons from the games would be the way to go.
Marathon needs a single player campaign, instead of just being a small MP shooter. I’d love for a Destiny “reboot” to include a true single player campaign too.
D1 remake sounds like a version of Classic WoW. It might be successful enough to climb Bungie out of the hole, but its GAAS potential seems limited compared to D2+/D3.
Do what Elder Scrolls Online, Warframe, the other games as Service living games do. Do NOT take away content, don’t reset. ADD !! Add a new fresh character class that tells players on the fence “hey now is a great time to jump in, this is a starting point”. They would need to redo the new player experience and on boarding but this is the way. That’s how I always come back to those games, that’s how I met brand new players in those games, when they do a new DLC with new characters. Old players and new both load into a new zone in ESO and still have that “fresh start” or old vets can bring their old characters there BUT BOTH groups of players are playing. That’s how to save destiny, I hope they do it but I doubt they will. Destiny never decided (or embraced & told) it’s players what it IS. Probably from bad management & scared to “pigeon hole game into one genre” So is it an MMO, ever evolving world, sequels after sequels like COD, what is it. They should decide quick, wiping everyone AGAIN and starting over AGAIN won’t work for me & the 10 yr guys I have played with.
i think they plan on making an extraction shooter to justify heavy pay to win gameplay, heavy microtransactions, and heavy lootbox gameplay. then when they make destiny 3 all these things will carry over and not be questioned in there implementation because these elements would be expected to be included based on marathons use of these elements.
I had a friend of mine who played Destiny with me day in and day out, and when Bungie put Destiny in a good place with TTK and Rise of Iron, when Destiny 2 came out, my friend saw how Bungie repeated the same mistakes they made in Vanilla D1 and my buddy quit playing and wrote Bungie and Destiny off and never touched it again. I stayed with it unfortunately until about after The Witch Queen.
What bungie could do that maybe wouldn't save destiny but would certainly be a big goodwill move is to bring back the base campaign and the expansions, then add back the seasonal storyline missions and put those in the timeline section of the director. They could even then add a tab in eververse to sell those past storylines and the armour/weapons to get some cash off people who are maybe missing them or want the loot. They rolled back sunsetting so giving players a means of acquiring the old gear would be huge. Going back and doing the forges or playing the storyline from red war all the way through to present, in chronological order, would be a good time and something that should be an option.
I'll be doing a play by play commentary on your video. Suggestion 1: the Nuclear option: I do not think this is neither feasible nor doable in the current state of the game. If we are talking of a clean slate, doing it with the content that is currently on offer will only make dedicated players leave the game. the game is grindy enough without having to repeat the content for the sake of repeating content. Now if the nuclear option is something like a brand new story, brand new acctivities , brand new everything but the actual name of the game as Destiny 2 is even worse. you'd be building on an old foundation and worst of all it's a destiny 2.5. it's not even a fully fledged sequel and all of this breeds another problem unto itself: manpower. Bungie's overall staff has been cut 40%. We don't even know how many developers are still doing anything Destiny related. the narrative lead for The Final Shape got layed off. This suggestion is more than 1 year or 1 year and a half that usual DLCs took with the previous staff. The game can't survive that long without something to keep people in. Suggestion 2: Destiny Remake - I'm sorry but in no universe would a live service game like the original Destiny being remade would even make sense. It's the same problem as before: taking old players through content they already know with a fresh coat of paint. Sure people loved Vault of Glass; Crota's End and King's Fall returning but those were raids with just some of it's mechanics adjusted and some things polished. The core Destiny 1 game was terrible and there's people looking at it through nostalgia shaded glasses. It was great by Taken King times sure but there were a lot of growing pains to get to that. You bring up Sony remaking older games which is true but these were single player experiences. it's an entire different market. Plus the narratively, D1 was far inferior to D2. and again we go back to the manpower thing not to mention servers, maintenance, etc. Bungie barely has money to keep D2 going and the development of Marathon (by their own admission) and you want to throw a remake project with a new engine other mechanics to an already "spread too thin" budget/team? The retooling necessary, assets, training for the new engine because God knows Bungie isn't gonna hire anyone, the sheer amount of work to bring something like that to the public simply unsustainable/unfeasible. not to mention how long it would take. it's basically doing Destiny 3 with the old story/content and it would take several years. Suggestion 3: From what I understood of what you said, well yeah, it's already what's happening. the game will no longer have any new DLC , content drops will smaller in scale and the game will potentially dwindle but here lies the problem: no company that compacts unto itself will ever see success. You have to spend money to earn money. Bungie lost by their own hands mind you a lot of talent. Talent which could have been retained but since revenue didn't hit the highs it was supposed to (and Pete parsons was unable to buy another classic car) the people on the ground floor suffer. I believe Marathon is dead on arrival. Extraction shooters were all the rage at a certain point and that is no longer the case. How does Bungie and/or Destiny survive? Accountability. Leadership must resign. An interim management team should be put in place by Sony to steer the ship and apply the following actions: - Destiny 2 needs to be more welcome to new players - condense the other season passes/DLCs into one big DLC and sell it for 30 USD or something along those lines. Give older players a bit of the premium currency and/or special emotes/banners/shaders celebrating their veteran status; - Provide gamers with the narrative from the beginning of Destiny 2 which has been sunset. Some of the things might be unplayable (activities, zones/planets) but if the campaigns are restructured into back to back missions without the "grindy" parts in between (i.e. the seasonal activities from the time, the public events, etc.). New players can experience the story from the beginning and older players can have their nostalgia trip. an extra incentive could be added here in the form of "legendary" campaigns too provide an extra difficulty. this could even be done by providing these "legacy" campaign experiences slowly i.e. 1-2 a month to provide the teams time to restructure them and players time to experience them. Revamp some old weapons and favorites while you're at it and bring them to the current meta. -Destiny has a ton of incredible lore that isn't explored by most players. Sony has a media conglomerate. Get some Tv shows going, animated/CGI, live action if they feel so inclined to get the public aware of Destiny. Fallout 4, Cyberpunk 2077 and Last of Us got players returning to them when the tv shows aired. Is this sure fire? no. but it's doable. apart from my last point it's stuff that can be (potentially) done with current staff with little investment and could provide Bungie the breathing room they need to continue building Marathon seeing as they aren't putting the breaks on that while keeping Destiny in life support and use this time to assess if more gambles can be made with that franchise, i.e. spin-off games or sequels Sorry for the long comment but as a 10 year Destiny "veteran" and a QA tester for a software company , this is something that i really care about and being in the IT industry for as long as I have I've gotten a bit of a "sensitivity" for corporate goings ons and how things are usually measured in terms of cost effectiveness, time investment and development
It's a shame that Destiny has gotten to this state, but given them releasing QoL improvements we've been asking for, now could be the time to invest in saving it and making it the game it could have always been.
Bungie killed Destiny and the reason I believe Final Shape failed was because they made the game difficult, they even made patrols hard as fuck to play, and it turned a lot of people off with the last expansion. And truth be told, I think Streamers killed Destiny. Why? Cause Bungie ALWAYS caters to the Hardcores while they alienate Casuals. And Idc about the propaganda Bungie pushes out, Casuals make up the overwhelming majority of the playerbase in every game imaginable. The Hardcore Playerbase is not a majority, they are a minority.
There's tons of ways this could go, they could leverage the IP for movie and Shows or they could do single player narrative spinoffs staring Ikora, Cayde insert whichever iconic hero from lore. There's a ton of value in this IP and Talent.
Nice thoughts Lono. I don't know about the remake possibility though. A lot of what made D1 great have been integrated into D2 like weapons, Armor, Raids and destinations. So there wouldn't be a point in remaking.
Going to say what a lot of people do not want to hear . Don't remake this game and playstation need to stop with all there remakes . If they want to save this game best thing they can do is copy god of war 2018 do a time jump change the story and more importantly try and make it like a wow or Fortnite have one title and give the fans great dlc , seasons and fun gameplay with this they can have a fanbase that will come back , stay or join for the first time.
I'd really like Bungie to bounce back, but hearing that they've significantly downsized the company, nuked several projects, AND are winding down development of Destiny into "free" updates, all in favor of Marathon coming out swinging... I don't think they're going to recover. I genuinely think this is going to be their Redfall era.
The “Nuke from Orbit” approach just sounds like they might as well just do a Destiny 3 if they’re going to just essentially reboot Destiny 2. Now the other approach of Remaking Destiny 1, I honestly don’t think it needs a remake. All Sony has to do is tell Bungie, “update D1 to boost the FPS to 60FPS and port D1 over to PC and if you want, move over Eververse and just maintain the game via cosmetics.” Cause I’ve been saying this forever and I get a lot of pushback and getting the ole “You’re just wearing rose colored glasses” insult but I maintain my position that D1 was the better Destiny especially after The Taken King and Rise of Iron. But Bungie Leadership wanted to reboot and start over with D2 and repeating mistakes they made in D1. But these are hopes that I personally don’t see coming to for wishing. I think it’s time for Destiny to die, it’s time to let other Live Service Games take center stage like The First Descendent, Warframe etc.
As much as I’ve enjoyed watching the old UA-camr’s I used to watch that make Destiny content, the only thing that will bring a lot of us back is starting over. The fact that if I download Destiny 2 right now as someone who left after Osiris, I will have exactly ZERO of the new mechanics actually explained to me. That’s why Destiny isn’t getting new players either. It’s an abysmal experience to be new or very lately returning to this game.
A sequel would be amazing. They could overhaul the class system(titans can have an identity of being an actual tank instead of being punch everything which hunters do better), bring back “wearing your enemies butts as hats”/enemy themed armor like the raid set from the taken king or the strike specific armor, improve crafting by not having red borders but having the ability to change a weapons barrel and mag while the perks will always be random, fun events like SRL or new experimental events, leave old gen behind, make events like guardian games/holiday events actually memorable, bring back factions, either improve the free to play experience or ditch it all together, etc.
People where complaining that the game sucked for more than 5 years. After the sunset of 2020 the game just went to shit and people feelt that the core gameplay was just way to bad. Bungie as a live service is not bad at all, It's actually good for the game. Its juat that they lost the quality that destiny needed. Eventually that game got so bad that bungie did nothing to fix what people had been asking for. The downfall of destiny is because of the out of touch leadership bungie had.
What destiny needs is a reset / revamp Upgrade the graphics to unreal engine 5 Rework and get rid of the classes make it to where you can build your guardian up with the skills you most want like so going in and doing quests or bounties that will reward you with skills from all classes. ( in the game lore any guardian can learn any ability with time and practice , blink is one of these abilities hunter and warlock share this ability ) Make the guns customizable and make the pieces come from all different types of events in the game. ( make it kind of like modern warfare where everything can be changed and have it to where you can equid exotic perks to weapons ) -*- the better the effect the harder it should be to acquire in game but with the game as it is now it feels like we just farm a new set of meta weapons instead of being able to experiment with weapons. Armor sets from raids and competitive pvp ( idk why this is not a thing yet we want to be rewarded for doing the hardest things in the game and armor sets would go a long way to keeping players engaged way past the normal endgame / lack of endgame) -*- an example would be 3 pieces = gain devour or activate a hellion buddy just small things like that would make it worth farming the gear artifice armor is just not cutting it anymore. Central vex portal hub where all D1 and D2 expansions can be accessed at any time. Add in new expansions under D3 story line Bring back all the old raids. there are many more things that can be added to this list to make the game better.
I would be down for a D1 remake. I like to revisit D1 every now and then and the idea of upgraded graphics, 60 fps, an FOV slider, and potentially some other upgrades like being able to have a map and go to destinations while patrolling on Venus or the Cosmodrome or whatever destination you’re on instead having to do all that from orbit would be very welcome.
Good video. Your audio bass levels are high and volume low. I can't tell if you're running your audio through Adobe enhance but it tends to have this effect even though it cleans up a lot of the other stuff. I'd suggest some minor tweaks for volume gain and equalize out the bass/treble. I am by no means an audio expert. Just someone who's dabbled with video editing.
Nuking everything would be the worst option. Destiny 3 wasn’t done because it would split the player base because some people wouldn’t want to start over. Nuking will drive all those players away and people that would have come back for D3 aren’t coming back to start all over on D2 again.
A reset is bad its already happened, if a reset means we are going to re-earn everything we already had ill be checked out for good. This why most of my friends left at the beggining of D2 as most of the gear is just old gear or old reskinned gear. Most likely they are going to see how Marathon is recieved then close doors on Destiny 2 build a solid foundation and the next version of the game will be Destiny (3). Until then D2 will be on life support if it remains in operation.
Agreed, a reset is NOT what we need, a whole new game and losing all the stuff, nope myself and a few friends all decided we will be not going along with that. We wanted a persistent ever evolving MMO but FPS, they need to do what Warfame and Elder Scrolls Online does and add new zones, new stories and new playable classes as a way to onboard new and returning players IMO. Even IF the new "classes" are just new subclasses they need that new location and story to also teach new players and old veterans could take old characters in and get the new subclass. Ah well, I personally think its over for destiny, was a good 10 yrs, everything ends.
I actually just made a video with a combination of some of these ideas. Basically turning Destiny into a Halo The Master Chief Collection type game, and just changing the name to "Destiny". So basically remastering D1 and early D2 content into one giant game. Obviously there would a lot of challenges with this, and I do address some of those. But ultimately it would address and solve a lot of issues. New people would have a good time, dedicated players would have a huge injection of more stuff to do and it would help consolidate all the awesome content into 1 game. A dream with a bunch of challenges? Yep. But necessary to preserve the Destiny universe and draw in new and returning players, yep
A great video Lono, you point out some great points. My feelings on Destiny are that if they do continue with the franchise, they need to go back to grass roots, this f2p model they have evolved to is atrocious, especially for new players. I really wanted to play Destiny 2 again this year, but when I jumped in, it was just a convoluted mess that felt confusing and disjointed.
The only gear I never want taken away is my Sweet Business Weapon, You take that away im quitting forever. I fell in love with that one weapon sense Destiny 2's Beta. It has been my most loved weapon. If that was wiped away and never can be obtained again I won't ever return. Sweet Business is a exotic weapon that is meant to fit with my character's signature weapon, Including the Autum Rig Exotic Chest Armor.
I would love a remaster of D1 and all the stuff that has been vaulted to date. But I would love the focus to be on story, gameplay and loot. Keep PVP out of the remaster completely.
In D1 year 1 I really loved pvp, was the only reason I kept playing Destiny, all pve content I did was to get loot to use in pvp. Pvp has always been pretty much mishandled, I believe it can actually coexist with pve finely
If not d3, they need to add the old major expansions/campaigns into the game like how master Chief Collection lets you choose what to install. The new player experience in destiny 2 is a joke and having something like the Red War to introduce new players would definitely help. Not to mention a content drought after the major expansions such as after Final Shape. Having the older raids, exotic missions, campaigns (with characters we actually care about) would have a lot more replayability.
If you do a remake on D1 & let’s be honest the feeling of D1 was this incredible space journey / exploration / looter shooter & the music was done so well. Hints of almost like a Prometheus soundtrack when they are landing on the planet for the 1st time. What we had & where we are now feels like two completely different games. D2 has become watered down with no sense of excitement. Make a D1 remake but just call it Destiny & from there create a new world or fix the blunders / wrongs that were made in the D1/D2 transition. This is the opportunity to do it the right way & really reset & tie everything to a Destiny exp not a D2 or D3…etc Dont go with the shitty expansions in Destiny (it didn’t work you know that) Instead create a new & keep it in the same feeling we got when we played D1 for the 1st time.
Keep building destiny 2. Bring back all the missions and raids and planets back from d1 and d2 and give it life. Once they bring all content form d1 and d2 while still adding small new content. Keep adding new content and add loot and reasons to play old stuff. Higher difficulties missions/dungeons/raids/strikes/battlegrounds. For cosmetics and glows. I should be able to play anything I want in d2 and there should be a chase.
I offer a *Fourth* option, and it would make the most amount of money for Bungie bailing on Destiny: Turn off the servers at a designated date, with a final mission to send everyone off....then four months later, re-release EVERYTHING made for both Destiny 1 and 2 onto a two disc OFFLINE set, called Destiny Ultimate Collection. Every story mission & story DLC playable offline & have online vs. be peer to peer (or private servers that can be rented)
Tower has already been attacked. That's how Destiny 2 started, so having the tower attacked again just to get teleported to a different solar system would be poor writing
i am one of the few who never wanted a d3 before we got a complete d2. people wishing for a new game when d2 has most of its content in a vault is just asking both to die. we need campaigns reintroduced, solar system refilled, etc before we move to d3.
A lot of people aren’t going to like this, but without any actual content (story, cutscenes, etc), their best bet is to go ALL-IN on pvp. Destiny will always hold a soft spot for many as a pvp shooter. Destiny got a lot of its notoriety from Trials vids/streams, and for a long time they’ve neglected that audience if we’re comparing the love pvp players got all of D1 and early into D2. I’m not sure why they stopped caring about pvp, but with more tuning/ content, they can keep players engaged for a long time with minimal funding/effort. Idk, just my two cents 😅
Yeah reset is a terrible idea. It's literally the lazy way of making grind incentivized. It's no better than sunsetting. Why doesn't Bungie just make more interesting and unique guns that I want to farm for
Too late, it's done. Seems like it's just a matter of time before they kill the servers, leaving nothing, not even single player campaign. I would be amazed if they released a patch allowing host multiplayer like on PC.
The only problem with your take and others is you haven't touched or played the game in a LONG time. It's changed dramatically, and a lot of people would argue D2 surpassed D1 quality a long time ago. Especially with dungeons being basically mini raids. Exotic missions and raids themselves in D2 have gotten exponentially better over time. I think a reset for most is out of the question. I do, however, agree that weapon power creep is so bad, imo we need sunsetting back. Bungie has to keep power creeping previous weapons just for them to be worth using or chasing. The community just doesn't seem to get this for whatever reason.
That Destiny 1 remake idea is, politely, not it. They already re-sold us much of D1 into D2, including 3 of the 4 raids. And it wouldn't be the same D1, it would be riddled with microtransactions like D2. Nobody is asking for this. Let it go. People are just going to move on or limp along with D2. They literally just said they were only working on D2 and Marathon now. Sony wouldn't trust them to make another game anyway. Even they must know Marathon is a losing bet at this point, too.
Even as good as The final shape is if you compare it to the quality and amount content in the Taken King the difference is huge! Taken King's campaign was long the patrol area of the dreadnought was full of secrets and even a community activity with weekly rotating bosses. You had an amazing hefty raid. You had several post campaign exotic quests. Class specific guns Class specific swords. Strike specific loot. Severap brand new strikes and strike reworks! New crucible maps. In comparison to Taken king The final shape is pathetic!
We always said that the only thing that would kill Destiny is Destiny itself but apparently even when Bungie tried to kill it and move on even they couldn't do it. Truly the cockroach of the industry.
They wont do the reset. Theyll make new weapons. Like how wow requires you to play a long time to earn a weapon of highest tier. They might make seasonal exotic+ items to chase. They could go the gotcha route as well. If legendary weapons are sr weapons they could make ssr and ur legendary weapons. This will create a chase and phase out old weapons without a reset.
I still raid on D1 xbox everyday, updated graphics would be cool and to have a bigger sized vault, perhaps add more exotics and planets. For me, stat reset feels just like starting a new d2 expansion where ur gear is either boosted or downgraded to a light level. My guess is ppl are just exhausted from d2. The team needs to innovate, if they think they have reached their limit on what to do next on Destiny then lets just face the fact that the game is dying and we can't do anything about it. move on to something else, I'm sure they can do it, they made halo and destiny afterall
The problem is upper management. The game itself prints money, but they funneled it towards other games that produced 0$ revenue. Stop making other games and focus on what makes money. That’s really it. The game itself is in a great position. But pivoting to other projects that don’t have a track record of revenue is wild.
Not only did Mark and Luke leave but in the last 2 or 3 months Joe Blackburn did, as well as Catarina and i believe she was one of the narrative leads. Probably left because they knew this was coming and wanted to leave on their own terms.
I don’t get the doom and gloom over mark and Luke it wasn’t that long ago the community was calling for their heads into their bad decisions and cheered them being taken off Destiny 2
The flaw with these live service games is these companies feel they can go on for forever. These games have a shelf life. I’d say about 5 years. Then you need to move on.
Put me in coach. Frontiers could use Osiris, Saint, Neomuna surfer, Failsafe, Caitl, Eramis and Zavala in a 3rd person shooter. We have Koei warriors saga, The first descendant, pso, helldivers 2 and the goat EDF/EDF2025. These games are amazing with room to grow and make ducats!! Throw in an anime tie in and get Marathon to tie in. Now we got merchandise and sell Marathon to the kids. You can play as a certain class or hero. Possible crossovers internally to keep the money in-house. I'm from the 80s. We had merch for every show. Lono put in a good word for me at Sony 😂😅. 😊 I'll bring the smiles back to gaming.
I don’t think people want a D1 remake. Almost every important content from D1 is already in D2. So it doesn’t make sense. What they should do is work to fully combine both games, and work to continue to make expansions and stop working on these one-off random activities that just get vaulted in a year. Double down on making strikes and crucible maps, dungeons, and raid reprisals.
No offense but its a terrible take on doing a remake. I don't care one bit if i have to start from scratch, in fact i think we'd have to at this point- but I don't want to just replay the same missions we played before. Destiny has great lore, keep that, but build a whole new game in inside it, something that feel more like an RPG. Something where the map doesn't feels like all these dead zones.
I disagree with a remake. Itll be dead within 2 maybe 3 months. They need to do new things. Id say work on weapon crafting to make weapons more unique like still hunt. Weapons with a super or 5 precision shots spawn a clone that lasts for 10 sec. Weapon modification with actual attachments( scopes, suppressers, etc). New sub class and maybe a new type or transcendence. Maybe where all classes can use all abilities. I know its hard for them to add so the destinations will rotate like the nightfalls and such. 1 or 2 destinations a week. With new events. World bosses / live events.
I guess The Final Shape for D2 was also a major failure too. Also if Destiny 2 having more content is a bad thing and having no Destiny 3? Then Why does a game like Guild Wars 2 gets expansions and content and no Guild Wars 3? I so wonder why.
You say D3 wasn’t in development like it’s a shock, Bungie said it was not in development it was a rumor UA-camrs grabbed on to and spun up idiots in the community Loot resets are good again for talking heads like you but for normal players will flee the game. You clearly have no idea how any of this really works. D1 remake splits player base with is a issue as well As for the the engine this is another UA-camr talking point they don’t know anything about. We don’t like trickle feed of old content and paying for it most players won’t be happy with a remaking D1 and it has rose tinted glasses.
i have 2,5k hours in D1 and 2k in D2 and what i think is the biggest flaw in the game is to little content even for people like me who play casual nowadays. Dont get me wrong there is a lot to "chase" and to "do" but must of the stuff is just being collected to have it. So so soooo many exotics but only 2% are used. 98% is just in the stash forever. Even more so for legendaries. You just get them to have them if they turn out to be new new 2% at some point. Same for titles etc..most of themrequire you to do boring tuff without any rewards for no reason but the title itself. Its just dull. Thats the reason why i always stop after rougly 500h after each "major" content drop. Its fun at the start when everything is new but it drops off very fast. Why should i farm every red border in a boring mission/event if the only thing that happens with that weapon is to be stashed? I mean i could run them in brain afk missions but again they are pointless. Why would i do them? The game needs a complete overhaul in its mechanics. The only reason why i played it so long is day1 and the following weeks of raiding because of the whole gameplay and the mechanics.
Ahem… posted this under the wrong video… let’s try again… Wait, what email are you taking about from that Herman guy? I can’t seem to find it anywhere on the internet. Is there a link to this supposed internal e-mail? Or is it so recent that there is 0 information anywhere?
Not wrongfully banning ppl that’s for sure, got a perma ban for no reason at all don’t know why have more than 3.5k hours in the game and I’ve never cheated in any game it is frustrating.
Destiny 3 would have been an easy win. We'll see with Marathon but extraction shooters don't play well to casuals. If they can capture casuals then it will be a hit. As for Destiny 2 I think going back to a 6 month expansion model is beneficial to those who don't have 20+ hours a week to play games. I think they killed the loot system by adding too many high tier craftable weapons. If there was a way to roll back to strike specific loot and exotics actually being rare then the game would benefit greatly. Streamlining the new player experience is a necessity and simplifying the crucible playlists will also be a necessity as the population dwindles. Unfortunately the only way to really fix this is D3, or a D1 remaster, or sunsetting weapons for future patch releases. And no one likes that. We all have 5 versions of the same gun now. No reason to grind for another reskin. No reason to grind strikes. And Crucible is so sweaty there's no way to chill with the boys and play anymore. I think Bungie saw the end coming and didn't want to put in the work to keep the franchise alive. So, they sold off. Pete Parsons is 100% accountable for this mess, and possibly fraud.
Problem is greedy money grabbing I mean, spit money for new DLC each year, spit money every 3 months for new season, spit money for dungeons and stuff i mean....they they remove half of the shit you gave money for. It just doesn't feel right. Sunsetting stuff and then bringing it back. Doesn't feel good........
Destiny 2 is better in every way imaginable. Doing a remake would be cool but I can't see it moving the needle. Besides. Almost everything that mattered from d1 is in d2 already. So long story short, would I like it and play it? Maybe Do I forsee it doing well for bungie? Not at all. D1 is dated and it's age shows when you go back. I feel like that should ride on destiny 2 and loosely plan to make a destiny 3 a year or 2 after next gen consoles.
Seeing how Bungie missed the timing to fix D2 (the game's an uninspired mess), I think the Destiny franchise definitely needs a new game. Preferably with major overhauls: D2 wasn't much of an advancement from the first game, and after 10 years we need something new. D2 still feels like a 2017 shooter. This time there'd also be a chance to make a proper story from the ground up. No need to bring back the old and vaulted content, it can be refactored in D2 and stay there. Who really cares about loot etc., the meta is constantly changing anyway, there's probably very few guns that someone would actively use for more than several years, and look at how irrelevant much of stuff from past content is in vanilla WoW, for example. With that said, I think Destiny might've been "overcooked" after this roller coaster of a decade, with the ups and downs and thematic inconsistencies. I'm afraid that after 10 years creative leads are probably burnt out or they moved on to other places, and I doubt there's much solid vision left for the game among anyone in the studio. The original vision that Joe Staten had is long lost too; from what I've gathered about D1 development, there was probably a lot of ugly stuff going on behind his leave, and much of what's going on today takes the root in those days, which is another reason I doubt that the current Bungie can carry on with supporting the franchise. I won't even mention anyone else personally, it's out in the open. Edit: Oh, and don't forget all the crap they've admitted at GDC. Never forget.
Any of these ideas would take years to implement, so unfortunately before any of those ideas would see fruition, Destiny is most likely to die. (meaning that it could be saved in the future, but it feels like its going to die and maybe be revived later on.)

Bungie is absolutely drunk if they think an extraction shooter is financially carrying the company.
They should've been working on D3 all this time.

The easiest way to save the franchise is to overhaul the game so all previous expansions and season passes (not necessarily activities) are again accesible. If they had no plans for a D3 THISs should have been the priority. Having both D1 and D2 toguether
They should make all the stuff from before to be free and only to pay the current DLC.
You should be my best friend lol. These have always been my EXACT thoughts including the Desinty:World title lol. Crazy
Wild to think it survived Destiny 2 launch, but then crumbled ultimately because it became too successful and leadership wanted too much too soon.
hubris came home to roost
they really need to stop making paid for only armor..... makes me not want to play the game cause there no bright dust armor i want to farm for anymore. because they havnt made any in 2 years now,,, besides seasonal event armor.
Guess The Final Shape too was a failure
Bungie, is now just a branch of Sony studios. Especially if Marathon flops, which I think it will, the only money-making game Sony would have got out of their purchase would be Destiny. If this happens Sony will make sure Destiny 3 is made. It will be the only game Sony funds them to make going forward if Marathon is a dud.
@Rairosu Final shape sold fewer copies than lightfall even tho it was a much better dlc. They lost players' trust, releasing lightfall the way it was.
The best way to save destiny is to combine both games into 1 game, and let everybody experience the full story and content while they make future stuff.
You also need to buy 2 more hardrives for that
The talent is there. Management needs a complete overhaul. Sony is going to have to get their hands dirty to get more than "MP experience" value out of Bungie.
yup, too much talent to let this franchise or studio die
Haven't played Destiny in over at least 3 years and I thought of going back but in the end, I don't know if I can stomach doing everything again in one continuous loop. It just feels the same, over and over again.
for sure
I’d love for a Destiny “reboot” to include a true single player campaign too.
agreed
D1 remake sounds like a version of Classic WoW. It might be successful enough to climb Bungie out of the hole, but its GAAS potential seems limited compared to D2+/D3.
possibly
Probably from bad management & scared to “pigeon hole game into one genre”
So is it an MMO, ever evolving world, sequels after sequels like COD, what is it.
I do sometimes miss Destiny, but I had a lot of bad experiences with the Devs taking 1 step forward and 2 steps back.
Trust me, as someone who missed it and returned, it doesn't take very long before you feel bored and sick of it again.
@@brandona9326 Yeah, I agree cuz I’ve tried to go back a couple times, but I always end up just not feeling it anymore
If one of them was sunsetting that should of been gone, The Final Shape made sure it was gone.
@@Rairosu yeah, that was a big one, and good on them for getting rid of that system
Seeing the game murdered by blatant mismanagement and de-prioritising of Destiny is just fucking depressing as a fan from D1 beta.
An interim management team should be put in place by Sony to steer the ship and apply the following actions:
- Destiny 2 needs to be more welcome to new players - condense the other season passes/DLCs into one big DLC and sell it for 30 USD or something along those lines. Give older players a bit of the premium currency and/or special emotes/banners/shaders celebrating their veteran status;
- Provide gamers with the narrative from the beginning of Destiny 2 which has been sunset.
Is this sure fire? no. but it's doable. apart from my last point it's stuff that can be (potentially) done with current staff with little investment and could provide Bungie the breathing room they need to continue building Marathon seeing as they aren't putting the breaks on that while keeping Destiny in life support and use this time to assess if more gambles can be made with that franchise, i.e. spin-off games or sequels
Sorry for the long comment but as a 10 year Destiny "veteran" and a QA tester for a software company , this is something that i really care about and being in the IT industry for as long as I have I've gotten a bit of a "sensitivity" for corporate goings ons and how things are usually measured in terms of cost effectiveness, time investment and development
So there wouldn't be a point in remaking.
i hear ya, but a clean start is needed in some way
Crazy that this world with so much lore and amazing art direction in addition to really good gunplay has been so mismanaged for 10 years.
I'd feel bad for Sony since they got scammed, but they're the ones that are keeping Pete employed so I'll just laugh at them instead
The “Nuke from Orbit” approach just sounds like they might as well just do a Destiny 3 if they’re going to just essentially reboot Destiny 2.
Now the other approach of Remaking Destiny 1, I honestly don’t think it needs a remake. All Sony has to do is tell Bungie, “update D1 to boost the FPS to 60FPS and port D1 over to PC and if you want, move over Eververse and just maintain the game via cosmetics.”
Cause I’ve been saying this forever and I get a lot of pushback and getting the ole “You’re just wearing rose colored glasses” insult but I maintain my position that D1 was the better Destiny especially after The Taken King and Rise of Iron.
It would be a colossal blunder to just coast. I would play the shit out of a remake.
i agree
Wild idea: don't save it, let it die. Let's its corpse serve as a warning to future game devs.
The downfall of destiny is because of the out of touch leadership bungie had.
for sure, reset the leadership, then reset the game, imo
What destiny needs is a reset / revamp
Upgrade the graphics to unreal engine 5
Rework and get rid of the classes make it to where you can build your guardian up with the skills you most want like so going in and doing quests or bounties that will reward you with skills from all classes. ( in the game lore any guardian can learn any ability with time and practice , blink is one of these abilities hunter and warlock share this ability )
Make the guns customizable and make the pieces come from all different types of events in the game.
Add in new expansions under D3 story line
Bring back all the old raids.
there are many more things that can be added to this list to make the game better.
It don’t need saving it just
It had its time and like everything in life it has its end.
Love this channel! Hope you are all well!
Thank you!
Noted!
If they reset again, i would drop the series. I play to collect. The universe is not changing sso it wouldd just be another sun setting.
Yup, follow WoW best practice, a single name, and keep expanding the experience. Keep it simple.
Absolutely!
Good comments I have to agree with everything mentioned cause younger generations need to learn about Destiny keep up the good work!
Thanks, will do!
A great video Lono, you point out some great points. My feelings on Destiny are that if they do continue with the franchise, they need to go back to grass roots, this f2p model they have evolved to is atrocious, especially for new players. I really wanted to play Destiny 2 again this year, but when I jumped in, it was just a convoluted mess that felt confusing and disjointed.
yup, gotta make it more approachable
Disagree with leaving pvp out. There are so many players that play only pvp, would be foolish to leave that out.
PVP would likely have to stay tho
PvP was better in D1 than in D2. Why? Cause D1 didn’t have SBMM in it. Which was good, I enjoyed myself in that game’s PvP.
In D1 year 1 I really loved pvp, was the only reason I kept playing Destiny, all pve content I did was to get loot to use in pvp.
Pvp has always been pretty much mishandled, I believe it can actually coexist with pve finely
Destiny has such insane potential.
I think it’s time to finally let go…
Im not gonna lie if i was Microsoft id be grabbing all those people that got fired and get their asses on halo
Sony is cleary not interessted in Destiny anymore, they would of green lighted a Destiny 3 otherwise
Resetting everything is what killed the game last time! No more sunsetting!! Are you insane? The only way to do this is a D3
This is the opportunity to do it the right way & really reset & tie everything to a Destiny exp not a D2 or D3…etc
Dont go with the shitty expansions in Destiny (it didn’t work you know that)
Instead create a new & keep it in the same feeling we got when we played D1 for the 1st time.
Resetting is definitely not the play
Remake isn’t the play ether
what is the play then? destiny 3?
Keep building destiny 2. Bring back all the missions and raids and planets back from d1 and d2 and give it life. Once they bring all content form d1 and d2 while still adding small new content. Keep adding new content and add loot and reasons to play old stuff. Higher difficulties missions/dungeons/raids/strikes/battlegrounds. For cosmetics and glows. I should be able to play anything I want in d2 and there should be a chase.
I offer a *Fourth* option, and it would make the most amount of money for Bungie bailing on Destiny:
Turn off the servers at a designated date, with a final mission to send everyone off....then four months later, re-release EVERYTHING made for both Destiny 1 and 2 onto a two disc OFFLINE set, called Destiny Ultimate Collection. Every story mission & story DLC playable offline & have online vs. be peer to peer (or private servers that can be rented)
offline would completely gut the core elements and feel of destiny
tower getting attacked by something.. mara comes in clutch with a teleport to the galaxy pools ..we leave the sol system. D3 .. problem solved
Tower has already been attacked. That's how Destiny 2 started, so having the tower attacked again just to get teleported to a different solar system would be poor writing
I could see this series as the only be that could go full open planet, which I think could could immediately make it one of the best games
why not remaster the original marathon games to coincide with the launch of the reboot
i am one of the few who never wanted a d3 before we got a complete d2. people wishing for a new game when d2 has most of its content in a vault is just asking both to die. we need campaigns reintroduced, solar system refilled, etc before we move to d3.
I must say this was a great way to save destiny everything you said was right on! Well done!👍
Sounds like you don’t play destiny.
Nobody wants to start over, after thousands of hours invested.
Mate I've paid nearly £300 pound just to reset stuff is crazy. I've paid for my stats guns and content. Reset nooooo
Don't worry, most likely you will get nothing at all. Destiny will gradually diminish and go on life support.
@@RTGallowsIf it survived curse of osiris it can survive this. That trash was way worse than where we are at now.
Yeah reset is a terrible idea. It's literally the lazy way of making grind incentivized. It's no better than sunsetting. Why doesn't Bungie just make more interesting and unique guns that I want to farm for
@@AP70293haha!! Wrong.
D3 in a new engine with a fresh restart. Veterans would receive exotic ornaments and titles that carry forward.
Do a remaster of D1 with all content available out of the gate and give D3 to Santa Monica to develop in the meantime
I’ll save everyone some time. It can’t be saved. You’re welcome.
Destiny is the hottest 6/10 game on the market. Most of it's "killers" have higher user scores.
lol
They wont do the reset. Theyll make new weapons. Like how wow requires you to play a long time to earn a weapon of highest tier. They might make seasonal exotic+ items to chase. They could go the gotcha route as well. If legendary weapons are sr weapons they could make ssr and ur legendary weapons. This will create a chase and phase out old weapons without a reset.
Curious if Sony would bring Bungie any older IP to make a new game ie Killzone, Resistance or even SOCOM to pitch it to the team.
Step 1: Get rid of Pete Parsons
agreed
To think they squandered PVP for the vast majority of the game's life span instead of trying to constantly build and nurture it.
Always told the PvP guys. They don’t care about you and it shows.
Jim Ryan's sudden retirement suddenly makes sense...😮
The flaw with these live service games is these companies feel they can go on for forever. These games have a shelf life. I’d say about 5 years. Then you need to move on.
a lot of games have proven that wrong tho
@@ReforgeGaming not many on console though, which is what I consider Destiny to primarily be. A console game with a PC port.
Bungie should just sell the IP to Activision and let High Moon Studios and Vicarious Visions take over.
I’d definitely play a D1 remake 100%
We need a total reboot d3. If they fail a third launch in a row then the franchise deserves to die
You don’t even play destiny. 😂whatever you said is silly considering people still play D1 and frequently go back to it.
I guess The Final Shape for D2 was also a major failure too. Also if Destiny 2 having more content is a bad thing and having no Destiny 3? Then Why does a game like Guild Wars 2 gets expansions and content and no Guild Wars 3? I so wonder why.
When marathon is only being focused on so Pete can fulfill his contractual obligation to sony, get his final 2026 payout from the deal, and leave
You say D3 wasn’t in development like it’s a shock, Bungie said it was not in development it was a rumor UA-camrs grabbed on to and spun up idiots in the community
Loot resets are good again for talking heads like you but for normal players will flee the game. You clearly have no idea how any of this really works.
D1 remake splits player base with is a issue as well
As for the the engine this is another UA-camr talking point they don’t know anything about.
Ahem… posted this under the wrong video… let’s try again…
Wait, what email are you taking about from that Herman guy? I can’t seem to find it anywhere on the internet. Is there a link to this supposed internal e-mail? Or is it so recent that there is 0 information anywhere?
It is recent. I couldn’t show it due to how I was able to read it.
@@ReforgeGaming Is it not public information then?
Maybe
Do I forsee it doing well for bungie?
Never forget.
also, I want all the strikes and gambit+crucible maps back in D2!!! at least as reskins
Any of these ideas would take years to implement, so unfortunately before any of those ideas would see fruition, Destiny is most likely to die. (meaning that it could be saved in the future, but it feels like its going to die and maybe be revived later on.)
why why why would so many Destiny vets agree to play a D1 remake? after all the hours put in it already. makes no sense
On,y way we get another Destiny is if Bungie lets it go
