  • I'm doing things a bit out of order, but an opportunity came up to get an engine I was considering for the 1977 Celica Restomod...so I went for it!
In this video, I get the engine home, separate it from the transmission (making a pretty big mistake in the process...), and get things set up for testing and inspection of the engine.

Best of luck. I'm starting my 1977 GT Celica resto mod right now as well. Can't do BEAMS in California legally so I'm strongly considering on 20r/22r hybrid route.

Thanks! I have seen some really nice 20r/22r hybrid builds. A header, some side draft carbs, and other work make for an excellent sounding engine and plenty of performance for these cars. Are other swaps that were available in the chassis options, or is it only the engine base originally installed? I know CARB is strict but didn't realize that they regulate vehicles beyond 25 years old as well.

Great work man. Were doin the exact same build... Excited to find your channel! Save that flywheel $$$. You can refinish it and reuse it.

Hey thanks! Been following along with your build and we have very similar plans and standards. I'm a ways behind you, my timeline for this build is 5+ years but much of that will be significant chassis/body work.

Great work man. We are building the same type of car build. It’s going to be a great swap! Keep up the awesome work!

Thanks! Adding your project to my watch list, love seeing what everyone is doing with these old Celicas.
I have a lot of video recorded from about this time last year I'm trying to find time to edit and post. Haven't made much physical progress recently but the dream is still alive and the plan is solid. Just need to make time to work on it.

Yes sir! These cars are getting back on the road better then ever thanks to all the car lovers that love to build these GEMS 💎 back up. Hope to do a little more in depth videos in the future. We are trying to do fast budget builds but of course why making sure it stays on the road lol if you have time, check it out. Let me know what you think! 🙏

Sweet video! going to be a nice set up. can you compression test with a breaker bar on the crank pulley?

Thanks! I'm pretty pumped about it. I ended up performing leakdown and compression tests, the results and workaround for compression testing are coming up in the next videos! Just need to make the time to edit them 🙃

You don’t have to “disengage” the clutch fork… just take the trans off. 🤦

Yep, learned that one the hard way. As mentioned, I incorrectly applied my background working knowledge on pull type clutch setups to a push type clutch. Made a lot of extra work for myself, hopefully someone else can learn from mistake.
