  • It's been a while, but the dream is still alive! In this episode, we clean out the '77 Celica's interior and start to pull out the carpet. It takes a bit of work to get there, and we find a few things of interest along the way.

Since this was recorded, KF Vintage JDM has announced they will be making repro floor pans for the 1st gen Celica - that could be a game-changer!

KFV is doing great things for 1st gen Celica owners. They should be nominated for sainthood.

Greetings! Always like watching Celica restorations of 1st gens. I have a '72 that I bought new in 12/72. YES, still have it and still love it! Pretty decent and now a fair weather driver. At one point, was going to restomod back in the 70s. I have a set of original fiberglass fender flares that were used on the US Gran Prix cars in the day.. Great condition. If you're interested, please let me know. Reasonable. Even have the original invoice from the "Toy Store" in southern CA.. Continued good luck with the project!

That's awesome that you still own and drive yours! Hopefully you plan to continue to?
I do plan to install fender flares but am a few years out from that with all of the other work that's required. Still, I'd be interested to talk about the possibility. Send me a message!

Good luck. My ‘74 rusted out until it hit a big pothole and finally a front strut blew through a rusty front inner fender into the engine compartment back in 1991. Rust all through it, like a stage 4 cancer.

I have seen some of these with pretty rusty strut towers, sorry to hear that took yours out all those years ago! I'll be getting this one down to bare metal to remove/repair all rust...some day.

a '77 Liftback is 1st gen Celica! Awesome that you had one and sad to hear about the rust. Thank you for the tip, I will check mine. It's pretty likely that mine will have rust there as as well, if the rest of the car is any indication.

Thanks! I am subscribed and a big fan. Cam's videos are indeed great info for this project. Wish I didn't have so much rust repair to do but thankful for people like him who are putting their build progress out there!

0:35 That ST grill is cool, I've never seen on in the USA before.

I like it too! I recently picked up a GT grille but I'm not sure which I'll have nd up running, I do like the ST grille as well.

Reminds me of my car when I started 6 years ago. Back then you could not get any sheet metal. I could either send the rusty cut out pieces away and have replacements made or buy the metal working tools for the same cost and learn how to make them. I ended up making them and was glad I did.

An investment in oneself always pays dividends! I may end up using some of KFVintage's parts but I'm going to need to fab the parts that aren't being reproduced either way so I'nm leaning toward investing in the equipment and developing the skills.

It is definitely worth doing the restomod, it has the ultra rare “aircraft quality” aluminum battery tie down.
