Awesome! I thought I recognized the scenery when I clicked on the video. This was in 1988, I believe; I was a 19-year old college kid home for the summer in Coronado at the time, and heard Concorde was at that particular air show. I drove down and was there for one of the take-offs; having parked my car right past the end of the runway where I knew Concorde would fly over, and it sure did. I had never heard such a roar! It went directly over me, afterburners flaring. I took some pretty decent pictures, even capturing it right overhead with the gear doors open. Air France was providing "fantasy flights" to those who could pay $1,500 per ticket; Concorde flew halfway out to Hawai'i and back, and apparently the passengers were served lobster and champange.

Same for me, Miami 1984. Dad and I were at the car rental place at the end of the runway and I heard the loudest noise I’ve ever heard- still to this day. I thought a plane was crashing until I looked up and the Concorde flew right over me. We lived near another major airport and even with an National guard wing flying A7 Corsairs weren’t anything like the noise of the Concorde takeoff. These videos are good, but the auto sensitivity on the mic doesn’t do the loudness justice. It was earth shaking loud.

Years ago I was at Dulles waiting to board my fllight and the concord lined up on the runway. The terminal was heavily soundproof and as we watched all the other planes taking off you could barely hear a whisper. When the concord started to roll it was like someone had opened all the windows. The sound was amazing! And once they left the ground it looked like at least a 45 degree angle of climb.

I saw/listened to Concorde landing at Birmingham UK in the late 1990s at the bequest of my late aunt-in-law, who loved Concorde. A couple of Boeings came over first. Actually they were impressive; roaring engines, screech on landing etc. It was a nice day, we had cheese sandwiches, etc, we were really close to the landing strip, waited for ages. Then this single piercing light appeared in the distance. Our mutual auntie informed us that Concorde was approaching. Oh my days. I shall never forget the SCREAM of those engines as Concorde came down. I'm not kidding. It was a scream, literally, and that was on landing.

During the years that Concorde flew to Washington’s Dulles airport, I lived in Rockville, MD, right below the flight path of departing aircraft. I’d heard all of the stories about Concorde’s engines and I knew its distinctive silhouette. So, I decided to listen to it. I decided that Concorde was only slightly louder than other jet airliners. Indeed, I couldn’t distinguish the roar of its four Olympus engines if I wasn’t looking at the plane. So yes, it was louder, but not by much.

@@DanSlotea Air France Flight 4590 was the Concord’s only fatal accident in its 31-year history (no other commercial aircraft has matched that record). At the time, with a record of zero accidents per km traveled before the accident, the Concorde qualified as the safest airliner in the world. Nonetheless, the crash of Air France Flight 4590 marked the beginning of the end for the mythic airliner.
Both Continental Airlines and John Taylor, one of its mechanics, were found criminally responsible for their part in the disaster in December 2010, but their convictions were overturned in a French court in 2012, on the grounds that the mistakes that they made did not amount to criminal responsibility.
