I'm sure that Tom Cruise could sense that he'd never, ever convert Russell Crowe - so why bother even trying. They look for the mentally weak.
True
actually i have scientologist friends... this is what they're essentially trained to say. If you ask them about their beliefs, they won't explain much, they'll give very vague general responses, and then say if you want to know more about it, read the books.
They don't want a discussion - because a discussion will lead to facts refuting their beliefs.
Indeed
Mark ONeill
Yes ! They do ! This " Church " is insane n has been forbidden in Germany .
Tom Cruise is not a victim because he s rich .. other people have had their lifestyle ruined .
It's heavy psychology pressure n has got to do with acting methods ..
that's where it originated California LA Ron Something being a failed actor or distributor opened up classes with role exchange ect ..
it's unhealthy as fuck n target people who r lost ... Russell Crowe
is stupid ( on that day in this interview ).
Charlotte Larrasl
I love Russell Crowe. He always keeps it real.
He's great, amazing guy, top quality, top guy, fantastic fella.
That's something we don't see in Hollywood..
All Australians are like that mate!! THEY HATE BULLSHIT ..lol
@@melsmithmel they’re putting up with plenty of it since the rona farce began.
And loves a good foight
"Find your own way" This is the best advice one could give.
I did after having the catholic faith and a God of fear drilled into me as a child.
I love Russell, he tells it how it is
+Cayden Elliot And sometimes, 'how it is' involves a phone to the head.
+Earl Obama street knowledge. yeaaaaah son.
+Earl Obama He is extremely intelligent, articulate and informed - he let the celeb talk.
+Cayden Elliot I am pretty sure Crowe would have a different opinion about Tom Cruise and Scientology off camera.
+Earl Obama Speaking of appearing useless....
Russell Crowe is one of my most liked actors of all time. Super authentic guy.
Yes he is, I lived in the same town in northern NSW as him and his parents, you would bump into him at the local shop every now and then, he was always very approachable.
When I was a young London cop (I'm an older one now), early 2000 during the MI2 premiere in Leicester square, whilst standing on the red carpet outside the theatre (tit hat on, etc) Russel asked me to take a photo with a fan. I didn't recognise him at the time as his hair was longer than when on Gladiator. I gave him my hat to hold, took the picture and finally recognised him when he said "cheers mate". We laighed about it. Great film and indeed a great natural guy
@Ioana * No no...it's "A Beautiful Mind"
Great story! Really! >BARF
Sooo??!! 🙄🙄
What a nice memory!
London cop? Copper
Always nice to see and/or hear contemporaries speak well of each other.
Russell crow has a lot of swagger
While I think Scientology is for cranks, I like that Russell is objective about it, not twisting the truth. Cool
Saying it's for cranks is a bit unfair.
Objective? I didn't hear him talk about their extensive criminal record or the fact that L. Ron Buzzard created Scamology to make a quick buck.
I think Scientology seeks out people who are lost and looking for something to believe in.
@@sharonjensen3016 More like people's money.
@@mugwump7049 Could be both. As in, easily influenced people with money.
If you haven't seen Russell in a movie called "a good year" you're missing out! Everyone knows his blockbusters, but very few people know this gem of a movie when I mention it.
That’s what I have been telling everyone I know to go watch the movie! He was fantastic in it.
Good morning lab Rats!
Yes, good movie. So is 'Cinderella Man.' For some reason, very underrated and not many people have seen it.
@@1matdad362i really liked that movie too, it’s one of my favorites, the cinematography really stood out to me, it was just beautiful, gorgeous area in France, and such…well, I don’t really know that much about film terminology, but it was very warm bright colored lighting, atmosphere, that really set the positive mood of the film…it really stuck out when they would switch to the London scenes, which were all gloomy lighting, and sterile looking…so the contrast between two were quite dramatic. Made me want to go to the south of France, and fall in love with a beautiful French girl. Lol. That French actress was great in it too. Loved the outdoor theater science, just such a great lighthearted movie, feel good movie…..but it got horrible reviews strangely enough. Critics hated it, and I think it was a bust at theaters. But yeah, obviously I REALLY enjoyed it, and I think your comment was first time I ever noticed another person who liked that film.😂. Of all the great Russell crow movies, you r recommendation is ‘A Good Year ‘….hahaha!!! And I think that’s awesome, cuz I have to admit, it’s my favorite movie of his. And I LOVED gladiator…it was always my favorite movie, of all time as a kid, or teenage I guess when it came out.
Check out the movie SideWays, if you have it, it’s about wine, but it’s a dark comedy, but it’s great!!
Loved this movie !!
I had a Russell Crowe phase when was in college (started with 'A Beatiful Mind' which I still think one of the most touching, brilliantly humane and oddly humble movie I've ever seen) when I was completely infatuated with the man. I remember that now and that crush seems justified. Such an open, upfront and intelligent human being!
I think his 'Cinderella Man' is really good!
Russell Crow is as real as they get. A true Cinderella man.
I feel like watching Gladiator now...
Watch Romper Stomper instead.
@@qwanathomas735 both are good
“Praetorian!”
@@lyubomiriliev946 this is one of the best scenes in the movie...
❤Never heard anyone use the word BS in such a funny, charming, disarming way. 🤗Russel is just the best and waaaay to smart to fall for the Scientology BS. 😂😁😊😚😄😆🤗
I know that's true. He can see straight through it. Shame all the billions of people who believe in the mainstream cults like Islam, Christianity etc can't see through it as well
@@logitech2010100 Get people young enough, they have them for life.
I loved Russell Crowe in the gladiator.
That was Tom Hardy. Russell Crowe was just in Gladiator.
That was Warrior. Nice try.
Did you know that he was a father to a murdered son and a husband to a murdered wife?
Harmony Jones if you can’t get it right, don’t even try xD
I prefer foi'tin round the world.
No Russell, you were "disconnected".
Still funny how he says he got "thrown out" lmao 😂😂
"You can have Russell, but I'll take Billy Zane."
He had to be or he'd have been looked at as a PTS for the rest of his days.
"Scientology is a body of religious beliefs and practices invented in May 1952 by American author L. Ron Hubbard (1911-86). Hubbard initially developed a program of ideas called Dianetics, which was distributed through the Dianetics Foundation. The foundation soon entered bankruptcy, and Hubbard lost the rights to his seminal publication Dianetics: The Modern Science of Mental Health in 1952. He then recharacterized the subject as a religion and renamed it Scientology, retaining the terminology, doctrines, the E-meter, and the practice of auditing. Within a year, he regained the rights to Dianetics and retained both subjects under the umbrella of the Church of Scientology." - according to Wikipedia
So THAT is how it became a "religion". Seems like a monetary loophole, a company restructuring or just a way of moving things around within the legal system until Hubbard could reacquire his assets/work. Once it was labeled as a Religion, then that's where we get the weirdness taking off. I don't trust new, religions/cults - they just don't measure up to the scrutiny and this "Scientology" is no different. I still say that it's a CULT.
Everyone in their right mind KNOWS how dangerous Scientology is! STAY CLEAR OF IT! It will suck the living blood right out of you!
It was weird from the first thought in the mind of RLH
I did the exact same thing...I enjoyed going to every church, temple, Kingdom Hall I could and it was great!
Been watching Leah Remini show on Demand. Its fascinating that this is going on in America .
Oh honey there are Scientology “churches” all over the fricking world. Watch more vids ppl see them in Europe, Australia, all over the place🤦🏾♀️
Ya go talk to anyone who has been excommunicated from any religion. What do you think they are going to say?
I watched Leah Remini's show "Scientology And The Aftermath" here in Australia. A real eye-opener.
@@tellmestraight
What about the people who fled with Scientologists trying to chase them off the road, and bring them back. Police involvement to help many escape? Are they all lying? There are so many escape stories. Human trafficking ones as well. Bringing Brits over to the US then taking their passports away and threatening them to "just try and leave on your own!"
It's a horrendous organisation.
Russell Crow is a great man! What an actor and real person! God bless him!
What happened Jenifer and meg reyn
My parents did exactly the same .. and I’ve done the same with my children.. it’s up to the individual to find what faith.. if any .. they want to follow.. I thank my parents for that too! 😊
Cruise knew he'd get nowhere with an intelligent man like Russell. Lol xxxxx
Russell also isn't lacking in confidence. He's not easily manipulated.
russell crowe fightin round the world lol
Makin movies, makin songs and fightin round the world
😂😂😂 good ol’ Tugger
I like Russell Crowe, and I would hate him become part, of that cult freak group. Good for you Mate!
Straight up broad Aussie accent, no compromise. 👍
I dont think you understand what accents are and how they work.
mickeydusk I’m Australian. There are a variety of subtle differences across Aus, none of which matter to us as far as comprehension. When abroad, our accent often confuses people, so we tend to temper it a bit. Russell doesn’t.
Tom Cruise obviously recognised that Russell is his own man and acted accordingly, good story imo,and for those saying Cruise would only look for a weak person, well he's the most down to earth actor you could ever see,he makes more time for his fans than all the rest put together, and that's a fact.
Russell thank you for not being a Scientologist!
Oh but he was a priest in a movie
I wouldn't join anything that Tom cruise was in.
not even the Mummy movie
not even eyes wide shut
A star studded orgy camera's allowed?
Penelope cruz...?
The closet?
One of my favorite actors. He is out of this world 💖
go Russell speak the truth
Love Russell, so authentic
And I like Russell Crowe and his work even more now
I will never forget him in "Master And Commander". I was initially disappointed to see him as Jack but he grabbed that character out of the books and made it his own. Also his australian accent made him even more complex like in the books.
You must choose the lesser of two weevils!
late reply, but I still yearn for a sequel to that.
I use to drive a Yellow cab in New York city 10 years ago and I drove Paul Giametti and his son and a week later I drove Russell who was by himself. That job paid like utter sh*t but it was celebrity central. I drove David Bowie once, I didn't realize who he was until we got to his stop and I recognized him, Bruce Willis who wouldn't shake my hand, Mike Tyson, Michael Stipe, David Blaine, Kareem Abdul Jabar who had to sit sideways in the back, Drew Barrymore, Laren Hutton, Michael Anthony Hall who asked me a million questions about taxi driving but the best was Tom Clancy who couldnt believe I recognized him. He had his shades off but I recognized him anyway, that job was unreal
I'm so jealous!
Gosh , I admire Russell Crowe' s talent . I think A BEAUTIFUL MIND is perhaps my favourite movie and I really enjoy all his movies . I find him refreshingly down to earth in all the interviews I've viewed . He's just an all around good guy . Thank you for this podcast
Lol fkn love Russell Crowe. He's such a chill dude.
I grew up with my dad being a BIG Scientologist and NEVER EVER was I influenced in ANY WAY whatsoever by Scientology!! Not join, not to follow nothing! Nina
tom cruise is a nice guy. always makes time for people, and always good with his fans. i think his hearts in the right place. I would imagine the scientology he sees is different to everyone elses.
Completely agree 👍
Not personally experiencing the mental and physical abuses many current & former scientology cult members had to deal with it, is not a valid excuse to ignore it and continuing to be associated with scientology.
And he knows it happens, because he has been asked about it in interviews and there are multiple allegations that he abuses Sea Org members as well.
Tom is not a good person when taking all into consideration, regardless how nice he may be to other actors he has worked with or during interviews or during interactions with fans on a red carpet. No person can be good, if they knowingly support the abuse of humans and the extortion of money from scientology cult members
He wiggles his ears when he's talking... but I like him anyway. God bless Russell's heart.
Christ was baptized when an adult, demonstrating the standard. The Catholic church went w/ the infants to guarantee church participation.
I didn't like Russell in the 90's and early 2000. Good actor, pretentious prick (seemingly) in person. Like the last 5 to 10 years he seems to have really mellowed out and is becoming one of my favorite actors in person.
Maybe I misjudged him early (or now, lol) but totally would hang out with him now....which I know he is just dying to do and will be thrilled to hear.
I agree. Apart from Collingwood. Liverpool, Arsenal, Spurs and Man U have never been a tall poppies.
I feel the same way about Mike Tyson.
@Saff Michael: I totally hear you. It's a typically Australian thing with aussie blokes. They just naturally come across as arrogant, enitled and generally as conceited douchebags. Must be something in the water. LOL!
boganus699 I have an idea about what I've seen and personally experienced w aussies.
He still hits idiots and enjoys a beer you know. I've always liked him.
I respect the hell out of the way Russell Crowe speaks about Tom
He’s made some killers lately. One of the all time greats
He should do “Crowe’s farm” would be great to watch him like Clarkson.
i wish Russell would do more movies I loved the bad ass about him 😁
Did the same with my kids Russell. Your parents are spot on.
What a sweet thing for a mother to have the faith in her son not to choose a religion for him and let him to find God on his own. I don't know if I've ever heard anything so sweet or so wise about a single mother before. He was as blessed as she was.
Well done to you mum Russell, my parents took the same decision in 1965; I will one day have my own mind to choose my direction on if, or what, religion I might want to follow for my own best interests and healthily mindset!
Top guy Hollywood hasn't diluted the aussie roots you have to respect how he keeps it real
I would love to hear him talk about his days filming "virtuosity"
I absolutely loved master and commander: The far side of the world that Russell starred in. It’s my favorite Russell Crowe movie, if you have not seen it watch it! LA Confidential would be my second favorite Crowe movie. 1996, I actually got to work on that movie. I remember seeing Russell in between takes, no one really knew who he was back then, I think that movie made him
Always thought it such a shame a few more films weren't made from those O'Brian books. Easily the most evocative historical film set at sea. And with the amount work and detail that went into those ship-sets (on gimbals!), the massive water tanks built, why not make use of them again? Or lease/sell to a Euro film crew?
I do not bash actors for Scientology per se though I criticized the organization a lot. To me they sell the product as if they were selling cars or cosmetics.
Gladiator was my favorite of his work.
I thought I’m the only one that doesn’t care for Tom Cruise. Russell should be glad he doesn’t have to be friends with him.
Leah Remini recounted a incident at Tom and Katies wedding where she found Suri locked in a bathroom and was crying... Tom left her in there before the wedding and noone was paying attention to her.. she was crawling around on the floor by the pisser... Tom Cruise is human feces.
My grandfathers grandfather is Rip Van Winkle. When he dreamed he was THE HEADLESS HORSEMAN.
I was a baptised a catholic as a baby but decided not to baptise my kids to let them make their own mind up about these things.
What would Xenu do?
TruthSeeker4Life lol
Somebody needs to introduce him to the woman from "king of queens " I forget her name at the moment. But she has a lot to say about scientology and none of it good either. LEAH REMINI That's her name. Yes I googled it...
ya...cause she's an angry bitter woman...her career is in the toilet...nobody will hire her, so now she has to sink to doing some stupid podcast about scientology...she's basically making a living off of going after scientology...meanwhile, they just laugh at her....
👍when you don't care what other people think, you have reached a dangerously(for society) level of freedom.
I applaud his mother for the healthy approach to most personal matter in every human's life which is his faith. Everyone on this flying rock should be allowed to find it for themselves. I'm grateful to my parents for giving me that same opportunity.
I think Crowe still has a couple more Amazing roles left.
A wonderful actor and beautiful human being!
Thank you for sharing. I pray our God continues to move you to share.
Is this a joke?
My dad did the same “choose your own religion” thing with me. I’m the only child out of four, not Christened or baptised into any faith. My Dad was a lapsed Catholic, who started doubting his faith as a teenager, and as the youngest ,he left it up to me to decide which religious path to chose.
I still haven’t decided at 60
It's somewhat fallacious to insist upon yourself that you have to choose a religious path at all.
Why do you need a religion? You've gone 60 years without one and are doing just fine.
"...who gets Russell?"...😂😂😂Nicole got the best deal there I reckon!
My mother did the same for me, believing each person should make the decision for themselves. I was born in 1957. We both had smart mothers.
Who is the couple on the left?
I would die to get that voice wow
That's a real Catch-22, because as soon as you died, you wouldn't have that voice!
Ted, does the L stand for Logic? ;-) Because boy, you do logic well, sir.
Thank ya ma'am, just a bit of existential humor there.
lol good one!
* cigarettes for
Crow was freakin hilarious in the movie:
Virtuosity😂😂
If you've ever seen one cult, you can recognize others immediately and this is one of the most transparent cults I've ever seen.
The actors who get sucked into this business have huge egos and are easily reeled in by praise.
Been watching Remini's show and learned of the Freeloader bill. Lmao.
I'd immediately bankrupt.
Just watched this one guy who paid $350k just for a building (not counting the rest of his "donations" and then wasn't allowed to even show up for the grand opening of it!
I blame the feds and IRS for not shutting down their tax exempt status bc there's no doubt about the illegal and "public policy" violations.
Aren’t there any normal men in Hollywood. Russel should be more normal....more firm in his beliefs in what is right....not bs
Never NEVER NEVER NEVER would I wanna be interested into such culture.
God has placed parents to be good stewards to their children. It’s never up to a child to figure out that there is a God on their own. Parenting comes with tremendous responsibility and we are held accountable for the example and the guidance that we provide them.
Without prejudicial influence the child can figure out that there is no God. It should be his own deduction.
scientology came from Hubard's imagination!
The irony is, it wasn't even his own idea!
He certainly fooled a lot of people!

Making movies, making songs and foighting round the world 💪🏻
For those in it./ scientology. For those whom may have thought about entering it. Dont. We are all spiritual beings/soul. However we live in the natural world both Spirit and flesh. You dont need an organization or cult to be in touch with Spirit. Dont need brain washing and dont need to give up independant thought. God doesnt need ur money. After all God is the provider.
It's worth noting that when Russell Crowe would have been friendly with Tom Cruise (while he was married to Nicole Kidman), Tom Cruise was significantly less devout than he became after the leader of Scientology, David Miscavige, conspired behind the scenes to end Cruise's relationship with Kidman.
"Going clear" killed scientology.
?
My religious upbringing was very similar to Russell’s, my Mum thought just like his. I don’t believe in religions on the grounds that they are man-made constructs, largely man-centric too. But my faith is nonetheless intact, I believe in a higher power, I guess I’m Pantheistic, I see God in everything: a baby’s chuckle & dimpled knees, a spectacular dawn of the day, in love, a stone, the sea, moss in a dripping Autumn wood, my Dad’s homemade steak pie, a great try in Rugby League, he/she/it is working so hard to show us the beauty laid out for us. “Chacun à son goût” I respect other people’s religions, even enjoyed the pomp& circumstance of my parents’Catholic Church, though I was Christened a Methodist & attended a Church of England school. I have every respect for the people who adhere to their own style of professing their faith, but find many people look at me askance when I try to explain my faith to them.
Russell Crowe is a great actor!!!
So basically Crowe did the right thing and refused to get drawn into a hatchet job on Tom Cruise.

Refreshingly honest for a celeb our Russ, thrown out with the divorce ahaha
The white host blurting out, "Didn't grab the e-meter?" at 2:07 made him look like a fool trying to be funny and clever. I loved how Russell just ignored him. I wish Marc Lamont Hill was the main host as he's cooler and with more reserved and measured intellect which makes for a better interviewer.

Russell brand had a completely different situation with tom cruise 😂😂😂
Tom Cruise would have NEVER been able to convert Russell Crowe and this is why he didn’t even try.
I think it's funny, after reading a lot of the user comments, that so many people are so invested in what other people are into. Who cares if Russell Crowe or Tom Cruise are into Scientology or not. Or if they believe in the boogeyman or the Easter Bunny. How does it affect any of our personal daily lives? It doesn't. We need to quit projecting our own personal opinions and beliefs on other people. If you have such high expectations for anyone, make sure it's that person in the mirror.
You have to have a ton of money to be a Scientologist. I'd rather serve GOD than Mammon.
Tom probably wouldnt want Russel to outshine him in Scientology.
Russell Crowe seems to me like the man who seeks love and I would not be surprised if Jesus would save him. Crowe does not seem like he would care a bit for money and fame thus Scientology has nothing to catch him with.
You don't need Jesus or God to find love. Those feelings are inside you. Just like compassion

The first thing that comes to mind when I see Russell Crowe is that episode of south park where he fights everyone
