- Here is a video of me showing off and talking about my replica of Eddie Van Halen's Frankenstrat which is based on how it looked on May 29, 1983 at the US Festival. This is my first build ever. Any questions, not answered in my video, please feel free to ask in the comments.
12:33 is where the knot in the wood was hidden by a build up of paint. It was believed to be from a ring, but its knot.
ccaamm1 yeah that “ring” wear never made sense to me just based on the fact that it showed up before Ed was married and wore a ring. It wasn’t until HD photos from last year that we could see it was a knot.
Fantastic job.
This is also the "Jump" video guitar and neck
Awesome man!
The Frankenstrat ANY VERSION is the basis for the most unique and ballsy rock tone EVER recorded!!!
Just finished mine it's a 83 us festival too but mine is not as close as yours great job man
Looks really nice, man🤟🤟....shred on....RIP EVH 🤟🤟🙏🙏
Nice you built this? The paint scheme is so good what pattern did you use?
Very good!! \m/
God damn!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! cool
This was just impressive...you're actual guitar build as well as all the knowledge you laid down!! I feel like I was getting a museum tour of Eddie's guitar! Well done sir!!
Questions:
1. On the pick guard, what did you use to cover the holes!?
2. Do you have any additional video or photos of how the 3 way switch was hooked up?
smahalko the holes in the pick guard just have foil shielding behind them.
The 3 way isn’t hooked up. Ed’s isn’t either. However I have some friends who have made the neck pickup usable and they usually go with a push/pull pot since the location of the switch makes it not so practical for use lol
Wow, thanks for the super quick response!!
Just shielding, that's what I thought (just didn't know how to confirm). But thank you.
Also I knew the switch wasn't hooked up...I was more interested to see a detailed look of it to try to reproduce Eddie's as accurate as possible (if wires are soldered to any particular spots or how the wires were twisted etc. You just seem to really know a lot and no one ever covers the making/weathering of that switch in their builds.
smahalko Oh, ok. Yeah, I don’t really have videos but I believe I do have some references from a friend somewhere. His replicas are next level lol. Not sure how, but I could send those to you. There is soldering involved and a few different lengths of black and white AWG 18 wire.
sent you a PM on your Facebook account.
Looks great! What kind of paint did you use?
I’m planning on doing a replica myself. Would love to find out how you did some of the relicing.
Young Park all Duplicolor paint. Universal Black, Wimbledon White, and Super Red II. For the relicing, I used a bunch of really sharp xacto blades and good reference photos. I’ve never used sandpaper to relic, it’s not precise enough.
I have a full size print of the real one and I trace and transfer wear marks and then use the blade to replicate them.
@@darthhull85 Thanks!
Great replica, I just finished mine. What did u use for the goop on the horn?
D'sBalls liquid electrical tape. If you put it on with a toothpick to be more precise and then wait a bit until it’s just a little tacky you can mess with it to make it seem a little dirty like tape gunk would be.
Probably the most accurate build I’ve seen. I’ve got a couple of questions for you: what tape sizes did you use, and where did you get the pictures to get it in so much detail? Google images stuff is very blurry.
stratt the tape used for the black stripes is 3-4”. Then the red layer has some 1”, 1/2”, and 1/4”. I have about 25,000 photos of the bands throughout their career. The guitar ones are mostly from magazine spreads I’ve scanned
Devin Hull thanks!
Devin Hull I’m trying to find high-res photos of every angle on the body as well. With all the photos of replicas that are out on the internet now, it can be really tough to find good sources! I may end up taking tons of screenshots of this video...
Oh my god, what's with all the grain showing!!!!! Just Kidding, good job Devin!
+Bob Sorace Wait until you see the video I am about to upload in 4K! I just got an iPhone 6S Plus and man, that video resolution is great!
Sweet! I have an iPhone 6 but I haven't tried using the video yet.
Man, this video is still uploading. a minute video was half a GB file size
What is the difference between the musikraft franky body and the Chris Locke body ?
What are the reflectors? What should I search to find them please?
check ebay..the seller is mmilner. he has relic and not relic..
The truck reflector was cracked in 1981
No it didn’t, it was cut to make room for his “tray table” in 1984.
Kramer beak is the best looking ever !
Nice! VERY nice! Where did you get the Kramer neck and how much was it? If authentic Kramer, is it period authentic or new?
scotto0010 it’s a Musikraft beak neck.
