fantastic video Mark thanks for sharing. I always find the parts of the video where you talk about what you want to bring out of each sound very insightful. I feel like I'm at the stage of learning where I know my tools but sometimes I'm not sure what I want from certain sounds, apart from cleaning them up and general technical stuff, so it feels like I'm not getting the most out of each part.
I'm glad it was helpful. Yes I think the key to good mixing is knowing what you want to hear. Of course that has to be set in the context of what the music needs to work at its best. Both those things are a matter of subjective taste which is a big part of mixing.
3:20 I'm listening on an apple iphone with usb dac and beyerdynamic DT770 pro headphones and can't hear much difference. Could this be due to youtube compression?
Trying listening to the shakers (which are providing an important part of the rhythmic feel), they are more prominent and sit more consistently in the mix with the processing engaged. The object in this case was not to create a huge difference in the sound, but just enough that the right rhythmic elements become prominent.
thanks a lot...I am right now in the middle of a bossanova Song. Exactly what I needed!
I would pay for this kind of content...what a crazy masterclass.
Another great vid
