    Roof Cleaning By Pressure Washing & Soft Washing Cambridge.
    Welcome all to a roof cleaning job that has a, frankly disturbing reason for me being hired.
    This job came from a customer that explained to me she previously had a couple of men knock at her front door, asking if she would like her roof cleaned, and offering a test patch to show her how clean they could get it. My customer being very kind and quite timid, and in her mind, not wanting to offend the men by saying "no not interested" like a lot of people might, simply said she hadn't really thought about it, and that it's unlikely she could afford it, in the hope that would put them off and they would then leave. But they didn't. They took her trying to be polite, as someone they could bully and harass into accepting the job. So while one of them was giving her a sales pitch as to what they would do, how it would benefit her, and that they'll give her an example, the other man had turned on their pressure washer unwinded their high pressure hose, got out a step ladder and proceeded to pressure wash a patch of her garage roof.
    So before she really new what was going on, my customer had this very noticeable test patch in the middle of her garage roof (sadly they do this deliberately to try and force people into accepting the job) and one of the men saying to her quite forcibly, that they will carry on, and they'll do it for this price, so on and so forth. By this time my customer was feeling extremely intimidated, so she asked them to leave, which they wouldn't, proceeding to tell her that they would do it for half the price they originally quoted, now that they're already set up and have started. It took my customer telling them to leave her roof alone and then to start dialling the police for them to actually pack up their stuff and get off her property.
    Unfortunately this is not an uncommon story you hear happening to people in the UK. Only last year I did a video about this when a couple had the very same thing happen to them with their driveway.
    Don't get me wrong, if a legitimate company approaches people in a friendly manner, and doesn't try to intimidate, or has been invited, I don't have any issue with test patches, they're actually a very good way to win jobs. But not when they've been carried out in the shameful manner in which these men carried this out. All it does is just give our industry, especially roof cleaning, a bad name.
    Thanks for reading this explanation behind the video, and I hope you enjoy watching the transformation. And on a lighter note, the customer was extremely happy with the end result, and is content in knowing that no one else will knock on her door anytime soon offering to clean her roof, as it's now impeccably clean, and will stay that way for many years to come ❤️.

    I had the council tell me that all the roofs and gutters in my area were being pressure washed.
    Around a month later, the pressure washer guys turn up.
    They go out back after asking to look at the job, said they’d go grab their ladders, got back in their van and drove off…….The council paid them for the job 🤦🏻
    Then I had a guy from the council call to ask how the job went…….I was like, “well they were here and they did look at the job….But I’m still waiting on them coming back with their ladders.” 😂🤣🤦🏻
    Dudes got paid for the 40 houses in my area and all they did was tell people they were just gonna grab ladders, then took off. 😆😂🤣

      Councils are just filled with incompetent people. They have had experience with people doing this exact shit (claiming government funds for work not completed or substandard) for decades. Just look at the green energy initiatives like insulation, rendering and double glazing. It's happening with solar installations right now too. If they haven't built protection into their system of processes then in my eyes they're not looking after our money and from my time working for DWP it is imperative that government servants work with fiscal responsibility. Highlights the state of this country.

      I find it a bit terrifying when the idea of getting unemployed people to do loft insulation is raised... Sure lots of unemployed people are decent and honest, but you know no effort by the people who end up running the scheme will be put into sorting the sheep from the goats so the government will be putting characters out of trainspotting into the homes of tenants and the elderley.

    1) I'm glad she called the police. A similar scam happened to my sister. I had asked the city to prune our street trees and they hired a contractor that then hired another contractor. An employee of the second company came onto the lawn, hacked off about a third of a tree, and asked my sister for $400. When I complained to the city, they were unable to tell me which company was involved. It was very frustrating.
    2) It's too bad the neighbor didn't also hire you at the same time.

      I did something similar when cleaning my solar panels. I could only work for 10 minutes at a time before having to take a break and swap my arms around. You do get a surprising amount of thrust out of the nozzle which helps. You've just got to make sure you are prepared for the thrust to disappear when you turn the pressure washer off or the end will slam into the roof.

      @@heleneroberge2934 As someone older than you, I suspect that you might well be able to do this if you had the right tools and are in reasonably good shape. I could do it at your age. I'm male, but I don't really think that would make all that much difference. The trick here is that he isn't holding up the whole weight of that pole. The water jet at the end is lifting it up, and he can move it back and forth just by tilting the stick slightly. You would probably still be holding around 10 pounds (or 4 kilos) in your arms for a while though.

Would intent taken into account then? Would that not be defacing? And if it is, what's the difference between painting a small patch and 'cleaning' a small patch? How about sand blasting a small section of the wall to 'clean' the dirty paint then?
      All of these actions altered the appearance of the structure, and ultimately needs money to be 'fixed'. Idk if law takes such technicalities into question, but if it does, kinda ridiculous tbh. I have watched a few channels that do this roof cleaning over there and it seems like these (What we call Duplex Homes in the U.S) are very common as well as row housing. I was wondering, do many cleaning companies offer discounts if the two neighbors (or entire row) want to split the cost of an entire roof clean? Or do they avoid discounting because the washed half/portion makes the other side look so horrible it almost shames the neighbor(s) to pay full to wash their side/portion?
    Another question, after cleaning is it part of the cleaners service to squeegee water off the skylights and glass tops of sunrooms?

    Hi man, you need to get yourself a soft wash system could’ve done that job in 40 minutes with no scaffolding from the ground I clean clay tile roofs all the time 5 to 7% chemical SH chlorine with a surfactant would be enough to remove all mildew off of those tiles spray it on and let the rain take care of the rest. Doing a good job. Working hard for your money but you could be working easier.

    • @PrestigeExternalCleaning
      @PrestigeExternalCleaning  Рік тому +4

      I appreciate that you're trying to be helpful, and I can only assume you're from the US or Oz, because that's not how we work here in the UK. I have soft wash system, I soft washed the tiles after pressure washing them, with 4% SH and surfactant, it's in the video. The system the Americans and Australians use is completely unsuitable for the UK, , using long range jets to spray SH on the roof from the ground, the risk of the overspray getting caught in the wind, landing in other peoples gardens, killing their plants, entering their ponds and killing their fish, landing on their kids or pets, is way too risky because of the way our buildings and houses are so tightly packed in together when built. Our health and safety laws would have any company caught doing that in the UK shut down quicker than you can say "massive fine"
      I also pressure wash the roof first, using low pressure, because customers, in my 12 years experience want instant results, because they are sick and tired of lumps of moss landing on their floors and blocking their gutters, they don't want to wait 3-6 months for the moss to fall off in bits and pieces. Hence, that is why I do nearly all my roof cleans like shown in the video 👍.

Here as soon as you put the treatment on it is a night and day difference. And it rains every afternoon here in Florida anyways so it gets washed off pretty quick chlorine in the US is deemed safe for the ground as long as it is diluted. I personally use it around gardens and fish. All the time the solution to pollution is always dilution. Thanks for the response. Can’t wait for the next video.

    I'm sure you offered the next door neighbor a discount to clean their roof at the same time?
    Where I'm at (USA - Virginia), I've never had to do a tile roof, but I've assisted a friend on two of his jobs. Everything here (almost) is asphalt roofing. Could you have soft washed that section and just told the customer you didn't feel safe using a pressure washer on that section because of the risk of damage?
    I had a job something like this. It was a gable roof with horrible GM staining, and a lot of moss and lichen. She wanted the forward facing flat asphalt cleaned, and the front of her garage. The roof was in such horrible shape I gave her a full roof cleaning quote. She called me back about a month later after two guys (rookies) came and pressure washed the front/flat surface on the wall, but the garage roof was too steep to walk on, so they tried pressure washing from a step ladder. All they managed to do was blow debris under the shingles. At the end of the job the two guys were standing there at her door in the dark, of a woman home alone with a small child, so she was afraid not to give them the check, even though it was crap work, and they asked for double what they quoted because it was a harder job than they anticipated. I was pissed and told her to call the bank and cancel the check. But, that one section they pressure washed looked so much better she saw my logic in cleaning the entire roof. I still had to come back and clean some of the cleaned roof. Then I did a half and half photo of the front garage roof the guys had supposedly cleaned and sent to the customer so she could see how little they did. I cleaned that for free just as a "SCREW YOU" to the guys there before me. I think I'd have taken the guys contact information and called a lawyer and sued them for the cost of the roof cleaning for her roof and the neighbors since cleaning one part would be an eyesore. I really hate unethical people like this. That's a great sales tactic, but not if you don't get permission first. You could go so far as to say that pressure washing would erode the surface of the tile, and see what could be done from there in the courts.

  • @binaryglitch64
    @binaryglitch64 4 місяці тому

    In the US we would establish an attachment point at the ridge and use harnesses and ropes to stand on the roof and spray it down from the top. It's a lot of work because you have to remove tiles to set boards horizontally to use as foot holds, every 4 foot (a little over a meter) then remove tiles for the set point, then re-place (that's re... place, hopefully not replace) them and clean those tiles. Some contractors may use your system, but I've never seen those power washer extentions that long before in the US... but I was never part of a true for a dedicated exterior washing service, rather I was part of a crew for a demolition and remodeling crew that offered exterior washing has one of our services, so there's that too, but we did power wash two tile roofs while I was there (two years)... and probably about 20 shingled roofs.

Maybe it did need cleaned but it is ultimately up to the homeowner ALL of what happens on their property. I just wish they were home and caught them setting up and sternly told them to get off the property!! It is one thing if you called them out there to do work but showing up uninvited or anything like that is just not OK for me anyhow. I've unfortunately had a similar issue with my garden over the past couple of years. Just because it has been overgrown for a while, seemed to give certain people looking for work the "balls" to just come onto my property and attempt to start work without permission and without a contract drawn up and signed. They think if they do a little bit the owner will just give in and let them do the rest. Problem is there _are_ enough home owners - especially the elderly - that would give in to that pressure and let them continue. And then be stuck with a huge bill when these unscrupulous people invariably end up massively overcharging for their shoddy work. Unfortunately for them, I'm neither elderly nor a pushover so I'm always able to tell them to stop and refuse them further access or future work on my property. And then I get actually decent folk like yourself to do the work, and it's always a better result at an actual decent price done by a true professional

The victim would get asked if they want their gutters replaced. Even if the victim denied, the mafia would proceed with replacing the gutters and when the victim comes back, they would demand a pay for the new gutters. Often the victim would want their gutters to be changed back, for which the mafia would require additional money. If the conflict continues, the mafia would start threatening the victim.

    These dodgy flyby nighters are what makes real professionals jobs harder. I bet they will be laughing on the other side of their faces when next they drive by and see someone else got the job. I am amazed how well you can control the long pole with the pressure nozzle at the end. Great job.

    I remember the good old days when you could just shoot the guys off your roof.
