LOL so funny you say that because I was the same. I played this when I was like 12-14 and I remember I was getting annoyed at the cut scene because you had to watch it over EVERY SINGLE TIME. By the time I actually beat him (time number 50ish) I had a tiny sliver of health left and I cried lol I was like "YES FINALLY I CAN SEE THE REST OF THE CUTSCENE."
THIS DUDE WAS A PAIN IN THE ASS. I remember it like it was yesterday... Age 14.. Watched cutscene before at least 40 times.. Contemplated UA-cam walkthroughs.. Cried when I finally saw the rest of the scene after the battle.. AH good times
I swear i remember that cutscene last like 4 minutes. That was the worse everytime you loose you had to re watch the cutscene cuz back then you couldnt skip them in most games. Oh what good times.
I remember them days when I was like 7 or 8 fighting this battle...(Big ass sigh)...it was horrible, but then I defeated him and felt like I was the king of games.

I fucking hated this boss. I sat through that cutscene over twenty goddamn times. I had to call in a friend to help and we took turns trying to beat him and we couldnt. Even the Strategy guide said in effect 'get good'.
For anyone trying this, I'd recommend fighting some small fry heartless before attempting Riku, just so it gets you into the swing of battling. Use aero if you can, get used to using the cure shortcut cause you'll need it, and dodge roll/glide for your life. My saviour was that I got really lucky with the Arcanum attack, and just managed to use it three times throughout the battle, JUST before he'd start going crazy and throwing things at me. The cutscene before it will haunt me for life haha. If you're just really stubborn, keep trying, you'll get used to his attack formats, dodge em better and you'll manage it in the end.
This was that one boss fight i couldn't beat to save my life for like 2 years, then randomly decided to play one day and beat it first try. 7 year old me wasn't ready yet.

I remember as a kid dying way too many times to the point that I memorized the entire cutscenes by heart cause back then there was no “skip cutscene.” Now when I fight this boss on Final Mix: Proud it’s easy peasy lemon squeezy lol

2) Make a note of the what Riku say/ Each of his different attacks starts with a different quote. Memorizing these can help you anticipate attacks by dodging, blocking and countering. I remember having a hard time with this guy. Just take your time and slowly chip away at his health bar with simple attacks. Eventually he'll be kneeling over begging for mercy! Good luck!
Am I the only one who kind of preferred it when the scientist Ansem was actually the bad guy rather than Xehanort's (a guy, who at the time, we haven't really met or been given a reason to care about) heartless?
I loved it. The villain being a fallen king went really well with the fairy tale nature of the plot. Then Square-Enix decided to make the series just as complicated as Metal Gear, and the rest is sadly history...
When I was a kid, I used to think the Metal Chocobo was better than Olympia because it was longer and (in the original version of the game) stronger. But now that I have a better understanding of how much more overpowered Olympia's critical hits were, and how abysmal Metal Chocobo's CH ratio was, I don't think I've ever used it again.
The first time I played this game I had to watch that stupid cutscene a ridiculous amount of times. The second time I Strike Raided him to death. Strike Raid too OP!!! But for real the best way too beat him is too just use strike raid and when he does the move where he teleports around the room, you just fly to the upper left corner and it doesn't hit you at all. Make sure you have lots of magic for Cure and Strike Raid.

If you hadn't learned it by now, this is the fight that proves you need to do more than just... wildly swing the keyblade in the general direction of the enemy and win. Throughout the Kingdom Hearts series the answer to any fight worth mentioning is to fight defensively, especially if you're playing on one of the higher difficulty modes. Block and dodge a lot, learn to identify the attacks and openings, and strike when the iron is hot and no other time or you will get shredded. That's how you win in Kingdom Hearts.
The trick to getting through his final phase is to use strike raid. A couple of those lobbed at him while he's around will take down his last bar of health pretty quick.
1) Probably the most important trick is to make sure you always have more than 30% HP. Avoid using the MP on special skills and save it for Cure instead. Use cure in the air when you're in a really tough situation. This should help avoid attacks that could prevent your spell cast from completing. Also, keep an elixir in your items so you can refill on MP if you absolutely need it.
I had more trouble on Usrula and Dragon maleficent than I did on this fight for the first time. But then again when I first played this I was at level 55 due to playing until I got Donald's wizard relic item.
I go by a rule I fell like if u kill the main character (and this early in the game) there no point in the game and movie And for some reason I didn't think he was gone Eugh some many things I have to say but don't have the time to say it

I didn't know this at the time, but Aero doesn't deal damage to the enemy while you're fighting... AERORA, on the other hand, does. And even that doesn't hurt Anku.
You can't get Aerora by this point, can you? You need the Yellow Trinity to open the door in Neverland, and that's gotten by sealing the Olympus Keyhole.
I'm so jealous of how easily you beat him. I can't beat him, no matter how many tries I attempt. I get him almost dead, and he kills me because I can't heal myself fast enough or dodge his attacks.
I haven't played this game in so long, but I never realised how slow everything in combat is. KH2 and every other game after this was so fast and more exciting. The main thing I liked in KH1 was the simple, easy to use gummi ship maker. KH2 is probably better in every other respect though.
I'm really weird with this battle. Although I tried Maleficent and Maleficent dragon more times than I ca count I managed to beat this guy first time. I must have gotten so lucky considering how bad I was at games at the time and how I had to cheese some boss battles but I will always have that triumph.

No way. There's no need to start over. As far as I can recall, there isn't anything permanently "missable" in this game. If you happen to forget to pick something up, you can retrieve it later on in the game. Check out gamefaqs DOT com if you want to look for specific keyblades. There are tons of guides that can get you in the right direction. :}
For some reason as a kid My older brother couldn't beat this boss. But when I replayed the game I easily beat him after 3 tries.. idk but good lord if the End of The World is the most bullshit of hard levels
Heh, I remember this as one of the most difficult boss fights I ever played as a kid, but after playing the other KH games and games like DMC, this fight was a piece of cake.
This is one of the easiest boss battles. Make sure you have the "Guard" and "Counterguard" ability and not only will you get a TON of Tech points, you'll also give yourself many opportunities to wreck him.

People have forgotten the ps2 version of KH1 had Expert difficulty and not Proud. But yeah Expert on original ps2 is a real deal.

Protip: stand at the very front of the arena when he does his darkness spam thing. You won't get hit
