and didn't get into loads others. But if you liked it, please share the love of giant robots and monsters. And leave any feedback or comments below.
The objective to make this short is really simple. I wanted to make a animation about the giant robots and monsters from my childhood and memories of living in a kampong (village) with my grandfather and many cousins.
Obviously I hope to have some awesome fights between an giant robot and monster. While at the same time have a story that can be related to those early memories.
Main influence for this is the old giant movies and the old box covers of model kits and toys as well as the old shophouses and wide open spaces that I remembered.
Nothing too deep or complicated. Hope simply just to entertain without feeling having their intelligence insulted and that people feel its worth spending 19 mins of their lives watching it.

Note: In Singlish/Hokkien/Cantonese with some English Subtitles.

Thank you.
Reminds me of those old super robot anime like mazinger z, voltes v, Voltron etc i really enjoyed the idea of the robot begin portrayed as beacon of hope to the people back in the day a concept executed in right way
Man... talk about reluctant heroes! Or should it be burn-out heroes? Lots of history without saying one word. Brilliant! And of course, that 'Old School Robot' feeling. Nothing of those Neural Linking, Synaptic Interface, Miomer Connections or anything of that jazz. Good old switches and levers, simple hydraulics and plain reinforced crystal on the cockpit. All reliant on the pilot's will and courage.
Thanks for bringing back that classic feeling!
This is my impression of those two.
The son is actually really proud of this father. He's just not too happy with what's become of him.
The Dad is really proud of his son. He just doesn't know how to show it.
Do you guys think I'm close?
Think you nailed it. They're both solitary and socially awkward, but they care deeply about each other. And this subtlety is shown entirely without speech; wonderful!
Right on
I thought that was his grandpa preparing him to take up the profession of his father who was killed by a monster.
@@Chief_5 That sounds like another pretty solid idea
ultramen, spectreman, evangelion, gundam, thousands of giant robots in the past pop culture. It´s a tribute, not a copy. Inform yourself.
I've been watching loads of animation today. Some of it is beautiful, some of it is deeply insightful, some is pretentious and some tries way too hard and still falls short. This is just fun! And it still has great visuals, a real story, and character development. Well done!
Man don't mess with things you shouldn't be messing with. Reminds me of the old Japanese monster movies.
Nice tribute to the classic "giant robo" shows and a worthy addition to the genre in itself. The father and son's relationship is conveyed with no real dialogue, just visuals; a difficult thing to pull off.
I also like how the rise and fall of the dad's career as inventor / hero is shown via the articles on the bulletin board. An entire heroic era compressed into a few briefly-glimpsed words and images.
6:46 "Oh no the monster us waking up."
"Quickly! Piss it off!"
It's 2018 and I just saw this gem of a short animation now? Man, I must of been living under a rock! This is gold right here! What a awesome Robot vs Giant Monster story. The non dialog really made the focus on the visuals even better. A good story is sometimes told better through imagery rather than through words. Job well done!
Jonathan Porter cheers for the kind words. glad you enjoyed it.
Me too, just saw it today in Dec 2018. Awesome story. Augmented man vs. monster. The human spirit always wins. Why? Because when things are worst, we are at our best.
Its 2023 now and I just saw this
love how their body language help tell the story to this well done :)
Deep down, this is how every young man wishes he could make his dad proud.
Pretty awesome. The no dialog said more than if they had dialog. Beautifully done.
Few people post such negative comments. I liked this, if you think you can do better then do it. As the adage states, put up or shut up.
It's been 4 years and I still say this is a wannabe: Negadon, monster from Mars.
It was made years before this and done a lot better too! It's been put up, now shut up and watch it!
Hey zip it, lock it, put in your pocket. Phantanos.
@@Phantanos are you fucking blind?? if you think you can do better than do better you prick!!!! otherwise shut the fuck up and watch another video
Oh, look! A giant monster. Hey, let's see if we can wake it up? Great little film :)
Congratulations... not only for the mechanical and character designs, but also for the sophisticated choice of silences and expressiveness.
+Massimo Masotti thank you. glad you enjoyed it.
+Massimo Masotti I want to add my appreciation of this work to yours. This is a sophisticated and classy addition to the genre.
I feel free speech all over this.

Evil Overlord Tip No. 999: If I ever create a monster, Step 1 would be to build a system that can uncreate it in a hurry.
Evil Overlord Tip No. 1,000: If it becomes necessary to contain my monster, I would not waste money building a containment system. That never works. Instead, Step 2 Iwould be to reallocate the containme funds to building a back up uncreation system.
Evil Overlord Tip No. 1,001: If I create a monster, I will make sure I have a fully functional, well maintained escape pod in case Step 1 and Step 2 both fail.
Congratulations on a well-executed video.
I hate touch screen keyboards.
me too
I really enjoyed that. Loved the pacing. Loved the animation. Loved the creature and the Mech. I really found that the water color style added a dimension to the movie. Well done.
This is like a love letter to all the classic giant monster fighting movies from maybe the 40's?
I love how the young man shakes his head like My God not this shit again.
Will we ever see more of Godaizer?
I caught that, too. Still, today, man does not learn the lessons from the past!
@@vernalc2449 Actually I think the creature is an alien based on the news clippings in the first scene
this film was out standing !!!
Now that was old school FUN! Loved the whole thing. It was so cool with no dialog, just a musical score and great animation. I especially love the levers inside the robot. Really well done and a great watch. Thank you so much.
thank you. glad you enjoyed it.
Where did you find it? I love Japanese Animation.
best communication with no dialogue. well done!
Love it when the kid just shakes his head while watching the monster lay waste to the city like "these monsters never learn" LOL
no, this is the "those bio guys never learn" look from physics guy.
I actually think the monster is one of the leftover aliens if you saw/paid attention to the news clippings
@@tangwoonthai Lol
You guys rock!! Great story with not a single word spoken, I love it!
Love how much information and emotion is conveyed with no dialogue. Well done!
Very good nonverbal story telling, even without the news clips.
Not a huge fan of 'bad guy creature for no particular reason', movies, but I did like this one. The story, telling without dialogue, the care given to the faces, details, the music, all came together to create a work that compliments the efforts. Bravo! Great sound track, too, no probs here. And, yes Gigantor, and Godzilla, whose influences have endured decades!
this is so cool i thought the hero died but he didnt i think it just slip through it, i like your work guys, very awsome, and the robot model was so epic, the monster so creepy, nice work even they didnt talk
That's the old school way dude thanks hornes up!!!!!!!
Oyph... boy did you scare me, making me think the kid was dead! Loved it though, kep it up!
Excellent film d'animation !
Merci
Freak'in loved it. Hollywood, take note...
this is the second time I've seen this vid. And I love it each time! it's magnificent though an old sci-fi cinematic myth not from Japan but from China so far as I can tell. words need not be mouthed. it's quite nice. thank you.
This was great! Thank you for making it. Brings back memories of my childhood also.
Apart from them constantly talking, I loved it! 😋Thanks for the love, love to see what is next oof! 😘💕
Great movie. When the robot first jumped out of its hanger, I could have sworn I heard a voice say "to infinity and beyond!" Just sayn'...
Loved this. It had such an old school feel to mecha anime. Also, it was well written enough that you did not need dialogue but you still knew what the characters' emotions were. But come on, Singapore is not big enough to have a monster/mecha fight. No way we have a big enough area for that to happen without more collateral damage. But that is a minor distraction. If I had one problem, it was the sound of the monster and mecha hitting each other, there was not enough weight to their impacts, soundwise. However, the rest of the sound and music design were awesome.
ah.. but its not the singapore we know. in this version, the gasworks are still around, there are still kampongs.. And there are storage warehouses for old robots..
WOW!! GREAT!! STUPENDOUS!! MORE !! MORE !!
Pixar couldn't have done it better ! Love the flying fists and the expanding javelin and I think this is the first time I never heard the hero yell out his finishing move before executing the enemy.
I love that smoking guy. 😇
But as usual the government has to keep the monster, test the monster & in the long run loose the monster due to their incompetence.
Jeffry Shadwick well who else has the funds to study it ?
@@whoyoucallinpinhead1507 someone else has the money to build an ass kicking robot weighting many tons and powered by magic. Nothing short of a miracle compared to the toys the government could build with all those billions

最高にエエんちゃう👍
That remember me Ultraman and Mazinger-Z.
Great Job !!!
raguangel Pacific Rim aside from Ultraman.
Oldy bat Goldy... Immer wieder; sehr sehr Nice !!!
seriously japan get your shit together, just because you can build giant robots it doesn't mean you have to create monsters to fight with. Jesus.
Superb animation y'all !!!
To all these critics.....let me see your track sheet. If you don't have anything nice to say zip it. GREAT WORK GUYS,LOOKING FORWARD TO BETTER FILMS..KEEP IT UP.
One thing is hate, another thing is Constructive Criticism, to all ignorants out there.
I though Ultra Man and Johnny Soko
outthe boxkenya if you don’t want criticism don’t publish. If you don’t know what your audience doesn’t like then how do you improve. Mean spirited trolls show their lack of maturity and need not reply to anyone’s work.
Awesome work
BRAVO!
Oh si
BRILLIANT, FABULOUS, AMAZING, FANTASTIC, MORE PLEASE
This was nice :o
I liked the fight. I would have put metallic noises though, when the robot hits the ground and stuff like that, but overall it was a good short. Congratulations :D
Neural linking is a connection from the human's nervous system to the robot, in which the the human body transmits neural signals to the robot and the robot reacts to those signals, such as if the person thought "punch: right arm" the robot, in turn, would punch with it's right arm and such. Synaptic Interface is the same thing except it's not connected to the nervous system, but through a telepathic link, I believe. As for Miomer Connections, I have no freakin clue..
By the way, awesome video!
Loved how the corkboard was used, via news clippings to give the history of the bots... brilliant!
Pretty cool short monster vs robot film.
Now that was great, I understood the story, and I liked the characters too.
jder06 then how is the guy still alive at the last part?
Love the Old dudes comb over!!!
Awesome... would love to see a full length feature on this one.... origins of the Kaiju and development of the mechs to combat them following through the era of the newspaper clippings announcing the decline after the war... Pure storytelling at its best!
There is always Pacific Rim, and the related comics.
Those two were awesome...
I’ve watched this several times. Enjoyed it every time! 👍
For an independent movie it's pretty damn good. The monster is especially well animated. The only thing lacking is decent audio effects. The fight between two towering creatures that sounds like a light tap on the shoulder really mars the whole effort. Though i understand that it's not as easy to create decent sounds as one might think. Nevertheless, great effort.
Awesome work! That was pretty kick ass. I grew up watching Dancouga, Mazinger Z, Voltron (Only the Lions were cool), and Robotech.
it seemed there was a bad history with the godaizer in the past of the old man. things got lower and lower on payments and the godaizers help just didnt seem needed anymore. so it got a bit run down. it seemed like the kid was taking the old mans place in training. just in-case something happened. or...in memory of good ol days. but at the end it seemed more then that. it seemed like he was looking for a final way to put the godaiser aside. and at the end it seemed like he did^^; a rather nice lawn ornament^^; otherwise well constructed and the plot devices were used well considering there were no voices you were still able to tell a story in such a long length without direct telling of it. great piece of work
I liked it. It reminds me of the first MechWarrior games. And of a very strange Japanese game in which you piloted a giant robot throughout. It was extremely cool. You could level entire city blocks if you wanted to. And it's the only game I've found that can be entirely controlled with the mouse.
Anyway, I loved it. I particularly liked how very well realized was the interaction between father and son. And I thought the monster was excellent.
I have only one complaint: not enough blood on display. A truly vicious monster would make its human tormentors bleed.
Ahhhh so this is where pacific rim came from....i see
lolno
funny joke
There is hundreds of thousands of them. Oh so sorry. I mean alot of different robots giant robots.
Pacific rim and its multi.million dollar budget was just put to shame by this 19min movie and its tiny budget. Hollywood can keep throwing millions at movies but a good script will always beat a big budget everyday of the week. Look at Star Wars for example. Those 3 prequels with Young Anakin cost over 100 million to make. To make that crap with Jar jar binks and a petulant winny Anakin whose acting and dialogue lines were PAINFUL to watch...
Then go watch FAN MADE movies on UA-cam. Their length is limited by copyright and Lucas but what they made within those 10-20min movies...was amazing and BETTER than the prequels. Fans LOVE the star wars universe. They craft a script out of love, NOT to appeal to as many potential movie goers as possible in an obvious cash grab because then you end up with a flashy film that is so topical it could be any franchise [replace names and it could be a Star trek film instead] and not something lovely from cannon lore. Fan films tell a story about STAR WARS, not current politics hidden in a film...Mary Sue
Made in Singapore... nicely done guys... keep it up.
Great for what it was, but it could have really benefited from some dialog. When the robot was being assembled a little chatter could have really expressed the desperate nature of their situation.
"But the right side attunement actuator..." "We'll have to use the ones from the Z16." "They've got a A13X coupling." "Use the conveyer we rigged for the UT8 and just remember you don't have elbow fumbling on that side."
A few lines about how this is his first and only mission. Not a lot, I think a ton of story was told without it. Also a scratch on the boys had after would be good. Okay critic mode of. Good short.
Hi, thanks very much for your comments. The challenge was to not need voices or dialog to articulate the story. On hindsight, some shots of tension on the faces of the characters during assembly would have conveyed the same emotional reaction.
As for the injury after... We had a version where the boy got a huge bandage on his head but I decided that it distracts from the punchline of the huge gapping hole. And again on hindsight, that would have worked better. Next one will be better. Hopefully.
***** I disagree, not having any dialogue was what made for tension. I really liked this animation a lot. Especially the way it looked painted.
+hilscreate cf
It would have been really annoying, just another one like thousands, the same meaningless dialogue: "Z16... A13X... UT8... " ... how old are you? 5?
Damn it! I might be the only one to agree to this but I hate when the hero wins a sure death situation without a scratch with NO explanation on how he/she did it
A beautiful and fun short, particularly if you grew up watching giant monsters and robots fight, and no dialog could have enhanced it. Everything that needed to be said was handled with the visuals.
Too often with movies, shorts and features, the storytellers use dialog as a crutch to convey parts of the story because they don't have the skills to tell it visually. But this was completely understandable without one word spoken and by that puts it head and shoulders above many other. It shows the people who worked on this project really understand their medium and have a bright future if they choose to pursue a career in the visual storytelling markets.
Curtis Ferrington Glad you enjoyed it.
I would love to see a updated reboot of Johnny Sako and The Giant Robot in CGI mixed with real actors and brand new up to date situations.
I agree with you, although it could have been so much better if these giants had movements like giants, instead of actually very quick humans. Also, the scales were off a lot, for instance when coming down the highway, one foot should have covered it shoulder to shoulder instead of looking like a sidewalk stroll.
Nicely done . A few inconsistencies but over all a good storyline that doesn’t look familiar . thank you 🙏
Who says you need actors and vocals to make GREAT movies? Fantastic job! I love the whole Anime Gundam Meets Anime Godzilla In 3D feel you gave to it! The destroyed tanks... AWESOME idea to use "animated" smoke. Overall the best animated "silent" short I've EVER seen, and I watch A TON! Keep up the great work!
cool! the monsters looks bad ass!!!!
Awww.... Just one little tactical nuclear weapon, launched from a jeep, no less, and the fearsome monster would be reduced to a little black cinder. why don't the military in these monster epics ever get serious. All that aside -Very well done!
Probably because the nukes cause more collateral damage what with the long-term fallout and such. At least that was the reasoning for Pacific Rim.
A good point.
Richard Reinert That, and what action monster movies would exist if they all involved nuking the monster on sight within a time span of 10 minutes? We wouldn't have any of the Godzilla movies if that worked, or happened. Where's the fun in that?
Well, you are right of course!
Markis2bi4 Godzilla is invonerable to nukes hell he's invulnerable to blackholes he's been shot at with a blackhole cannon twice in one movie. only time nukes worked on him was when it was in his stomach of coarse he regenerated from that and showed up agian in Godzilla 2000 to fight orga
you could make an entire movie out of something like that but i think you might need too touch up on the smoke effects and refine little features for the big screen but his still kicks major ass
Awesomeness!!
Good plot. Nice transitions. Excellent on-time animation. Id give 5 stars
This is a really good short. You have some talent.
This was fantastic!!!
at least the defense force had better accuracy in this than most kaiju movies
Thank you for the comment, AwesomeCowface. (great name)
I believe that humans 1st instinct is survival and then dominance quite simply as a extension of fear. History have shown that we will always try to create the more powerful, better weapon we can because if not, someone else will. If there are giant monsters that invaded earth and we defeated it, I will bet all my money that humans will try to replicate it as a safety measure.
WOW, so cool! Very nicely done. Great story and great animation.
i belong to that era as well. Its refreshing to see a new take on an old classic genre. The stylized animation compliments well to the realistic renders.
Good tight visual story telling. You told an entire story without any dialog (or exposition) something thats pretty darn hard to pull off let alone as well as you did.
I like the end, it looks like "wtf are we gonna do with that hole?" lol
So this is how the coronavirus. Glad they stopped it. I always like coming back and watching this video.
Thank you for kind words ! A geek fact for you. The design of the main robot in the short are more from the "Super Robot" Genre rather then the "Real Robot" genre. But I tried to keep it based more on reality as I could. The only reason being I loved the designs of the Super Robots more. but feel that the powers they have are too outlandish.
Great video! Going to share it on my Kaijus & Kaizers page on Facebook.
Awesome! It takes me back to Johnny Socko and Giant Robot! Yes, i'm an old geek, and this was wonderful. Well done, guys. Thank you for sharing with us.
That's exactly what I thought the second the boy walked past the uniform. I couldn't get home fast enough so I could watch Johnny Sokko!
@Glen, you certainly must be a person of quality, taste, and intelligence! :)
EPIC. I love the dialogue
Wow this is done before Pacific Rim!
But Pacific rim is like 3000000 times better !
+dede9806 Pacific Rim is a very good very solid industrial production, but _this_ movie is _art_.
+flightJazzCinema thank you.
+InsaneCoasterPOVs no bro, pacific rim is the real action movie from the japanese anime "evangelion" , which already excists since 1995 !
By the way the made Pacific Rim or had the plans to make it at the same time
excellent loved the no talking...
Anyone else notice that the missiles fired by the jet fighters were larger than the planes that fired them when they hit the monster?
yeah so funny!
One of the first things i noticed lmao
чєαh
Monster repelling in a nutshell
the missiles are equipped with space compression technology, once it's fired the space compression will decompress and the missile will return to its original size. That's how you fight a 50m monster with a 10m jet fighter.
was pleasure to grant that 19 min of my time...got that insect..
I wish I could make a series about this
Awesome Robot!!!!!!!
pacific rim before it was cool.
this is awesome! Love Robot-Vs.-monster action^w^'
thank you for kind words... Actually tried to change the status on IMDB. But didnt figure how.. never mind. just glad people enjoyed it.
Note to self: Never build monster cages out of glass.
I can't wait too. I seen some of the footage at Comic Con and it looks Awesome!
Outstanding!
Great characters, wonderful understatement, brilliant rendition. Forget the criticism of smoke, light etc. A piece of art on it's own merits.
Just loved everything about it.
