No problem for leftys. You wont make a mistake with this great knife. Kizer love goes on.
I must have a different idea of "ugly". I think its a very nice looking knife,,it's not like the other knives that today ...most of the market LOOK ALL THE SAME TO ME . Its refreshing to see a UNIQUE looking specimen
I can’t unsee the “pelican with a buzz cut”…I had no words to describe the look prior to this moment, BUT now I do. I appreciate it 🤣🤣🤣
It actually looks like a cormorant.
@@hyssean12 I came here to say the same thing ! Lol
lol
Saw it in stock today and had to get it. My cormorant v2 is amazing. Love it to bits. I will treasure it forever.
I still carry my Strider some times. I love the sound it makes as it locks open, and the handle design is unusual, but is the best feeling knife I have ever used. Beauty is in the eye...etc.
I fidget with this version of the Kizer more than any other knife. Amazing fidget. Love it. I do fidget left handed too, it works. For real cutting though, grab para3 or pm 2 maxamet.
I have a couple Cormorants. Love them. One in 3V from WMK and one in 4V from Knifecenter and the XL. I am hoping to get the Ti version before to long. The only knife I have that is as fun to play with is the EMP Nymble.
I love my commorants. I have the 3v, brown micarta, and the green micarta s35vn. They are by far the most fidgety knife ive played w. The one bad thing, they both came apart just from me playing w them non stop. I had to tighten everything up, but now they run flawlessly. Kizer is my favorite budget company. They keep bringin the heat.
Does his button look right in your experience? It just looks wrong somehow
Bought the same knife from their website. Thankfully my button doesn't stick up nearly as far when opened. The knife is great, and I'm glad I had your video as reference
I pulled mine apart and filled the underside of the button with lucas gun grease and its quiet and smooth as butter now
Totally know what you mean and it was the thing that bothered me the most about this lock. I am going to go ahead and try polishing that button lock on my cormorant to see if it helps elevate that gritty feel.
A Big thank you for mentioning that the pocket clip is swappable!! I contacted Metal Complex about that and now he has implemented it in this video. In this case it was clearly visible but sometimes a whole video long its not clearly visible or covered by your hands so we lefties have to go check on a website. So its very convenient for us if you just mention it shortly in your reviews. Thank you so much!!
I wouldn't recommend this knife for lefties, as it might be too easy to disengage the lock.
I just bought this knfe. Looks like they fixed all the issues. Mine works great. 😀
I like this knife. I might have to add one to my cormorant flock. My most fidgeted with knife is my Cormorant V2. Lefty, righty, can't stop playing with it. The button did freak me out a little when I first got it. Wasn't expecting it to come loose ! But once the nuances of the knife are understood, it's a fun knife.
i love how the AD20.5 is popping up in the size comparisons. just got 2 not too long ago, great edc
Just picked this up; I think it's a good looking knife! It's been on my wishlist for a while, but since a retailer sent me a 10 percent discount code... figured I might as well :D Happy to report it's excellent! My example has a properly recessed, smooth button. Buttery smooth on opening and closing. Only downside: mine doesn't quite have the 'ping' sound like I've seen on some other videos. But hey, you buy a knife to cut and fidget with, right?
I felt like I had to come back to this old video to share… I have a bunch of Kizer Cormorants in different configs, including the Ti 20CV, and none of my buttons protrude out nearly as far as yours. I would highly recommend getting your hands on another one to see. I love this knife (helps that it’s on sale on Amazon right now (15% or 30% off select models).
I got one of these knives and it has become one of my all time knives.
I gotta give kizer another shot I've been hearing good things lately
Got the so s35vn, the xl in cpm 3v, and titanium scales with m390. This is actually my favorite knife at the moment
Have you taken off the show scale to take a look at the plunge/button? Often need to do that to get the button to not grind, or screw the button together and Loctite it if it's started to unthread.
Do you think it would be possible to remove the bearings that are there and install phosphor bronze washers?
I’ve never held one but that button problem does seem a little picky brother! Thanks for the video MC
Good review MC. I really wanted the full Ti version of this but just got tired of waiting for it come back in stock so for now I snagged the micarta version. It should be here in a few days. Maybe I can get the full Ti version at Blade Show next year.
There in stock at blade HQ right now just snagged one
I own 3 including The XL. Button Lock on all of them is smooth as silk. Still I do have a couple other button locks that are 'sticky'. I wonder if I should add some lube to it.
I have the Ti version with the 2 X’s instead of the frag pattern and my button is smooooth as butter so you might’ve just got a dud🤨
Just got one, is smooth as and button does not stick out or grind
Mine has a rattling sound when opened and when closed. Still locks up solid with no blade play. Anybody have any idea what the cause could be and if it is something to be considered about?
The display on those calipers will suddenly go blank one day in the middle of recording😂 Great review!
I just got one of these and the button doesn't stick out anywhere near as far. I wish it did though! The button on mine is too low and I have to mash it down to get the blade loose enough to drop shut.
Mine doesn't grind and has no button stick if the button is turned the right way. When you muscle it, it has a minuscule amount of blade play if the button is oriented to be completely smooth, the lockup is still solid tho (tested it with light spine whacking and all)
Is that knife kisers version of a smock? I kind of see it with the blade shape
I have the same knife, the same titanium, CPM-20CV variant... The button on mine, however, doesn't stick out NEARLY as far. I didn't tinker with it, I didn't modify it in any way, it came out of the box, with the button not as pronounced. So, I don't know if this is a quality control issue, or if this is something they've changed/fixed since this video came out....
Does this have the hollow grind ? I have the s35vn version in micarta with the hollow grind and I love it . Having one in frag ti would be awesome.
It looks hollow but is listed flat, someone tell us
Interesting, i just got mine today and the button nowhere near sticks out that much and is very smooth
They have one coming out this month that’s black fat carbon scales and a black elmax blade 😇 I jus preordered mine 😁😁😁
i have just noticed that your button comes out more than mine. My friend's had the same thing. i wonder if there was a batch of tall buttons.... or a batch of shorter buttons?
Yeah seem to be a issue some people get with their button locks. Would love to see Kizer mill a "volcano shape" on the scale around where the button sits
Who owns the Diamond Plate pattern on your work mat?
The micarta one "tinks" too 😁 frickin love my cormorant. My one issue is how easy it is to disengage that lock. I've had it come down on my hand a few times but I was really crankin on it and it's not for that
imagine trying to trust it in a full left handed grip/purchase... urm noooupe
I've had the same problem when doing horizontal cuts due to the placement off my thumb, and had to train myself to put my thumb on the blade to prevent this.
I love this knife but it's dangerous as hell. I have this version and the 4v. That button lock will f you up if you're not careful. Got 8 stitches while fidgeting with the 4V and yes I still play with it.... daily.
What no lanyard hole?!!! Good going kizer!
Nice. I'm waiting for the xl version in frag Ti.
Yes! That’s what I’ve been saying! I love the Brown Knives FSD and this is the closest budget version to it I think… and the XL would be even better. Do you have knowledge that one is in the works? Lemme know!! Haha
@@esporev Yes, the first g10 version in 3v steel is available at White Mountain knives and their coming soon has revealed a full ti version coming in the near future.
That button really lets it down especially on the subject of safety but apart from that it’s a sexy looking knife
There are serveral knives that come with the frag pattern. Yeah someone decided to cut squares out in a knife scale first but come on people. There is what like 5-6 different cutout patterns in knife scales and everyone uses them.
Any Canadian links with stocks?
Got mine 😊
I think they have QC issues with their button locks. I've owned one that was "crunchy", so I just swapped it out with another unit and the button was just fine. kind of annoying that the button can ruin the knife
Oh they do Im waiting on my second one now first one had massive button stick and wasn't locking up good.
I got my Ti Cormorant yesterday, and, while being very pleased with the overall appearance, I wasn’t impressed with the fit and finish. Something rattled around and the Button was grinding. A complete disassemble, cleaning, new oil, a few drops of wax and some loctite made a world of a difference. It’s now quiet and buttery smooth. Feels also more like „my“ knife now.
I got my frag Cormorant the other day and I noticed a rattle also. Did you locate where that rattle is coming from? I'm curious. I have not taken it apart yet but I cannot identify where the rattle is coming from it almost sounds like near the pivot. Thanks in advance
There is the internal stop pin near the pivot. I first thought it was this. But then I noticed that one of the stand-offs was a bit loose. The one that is not screwed in place, but only clamped between the scales. Could be the pin and the stand-off, but i think mainly the latter. I fixed it in place with a bit of liquid wax (the one for bicycle chains, it solidifies within a few hours), but loctite will most probably work.
@@CristoffelBonorand awesome thank you for the info sure appreciate it you have a great weekend
I have the same knife now and had the original cormorant and the v2 before it. The original had an issue with the buttonlock coming loose, but that was easily solved by putting some loctight on it. I have no issues with this newest upgraded version that I own. It’s hard to say from the video, but my buttonlock seems to stick out considerably less then yours. I also don’t have the grindy noise (which sounded like the spring is very audible, not metal grinding with other metal). Mine is smooth and very similar to other buttonlocks.
I had my original cormorant for maybe a day before the button said goodbye. It's really not a good design they way they've done it. I did get a new button from them a couple months later but I just will never trust it enough to carry. Even with a thread lock. I do love the looks and idea of this knife though.
I get that your button is screwed all the way in, but what you're describing sounds exactly like the problem my Cormorant had when the button wasn't screwed all the way in. Just sayin'...
Do you have the Ti version? I have mine in Ti and can't even unscrew the button, let alone screw it tighter.
@@Lenduya I have a sprint run version in linen micarta and 4v.
What a cool looking knife.
I’ve been looking forever for a decent, budget frag scale knife, but they just don’t exist.
Qsp penguin frag titanium blue or black
@@WorldsEliteDeatHaze
Thanks, but that’s over $100. I’m pretty much a budget guy.
@@FightingTemplar you can get them second hand on Reddit or FB for cheap 👍
It available as of 8/23/2022 on Blade HQ!!
I have no idea how the button is threaded as in deep or just a couple if deeply would there be a chance you could unscrew it and rub it down on a diamond plate to decrease how much it sticks its head out? I know you shouldn’t have to even think of doing a mod on a brand spanking new number like that but if it works and you got the tinkering time have at it M_C as always beautiful viewing as normal and love the little tongue trip at the start with a excellent recovery mores the pity you know how much that stuff cracks me up, you beauty you anyway have a beautiful day M_C stay safe and healthy brother 😘👍🏼
I have the same one and the button only sticks up about half of yours. I think you got a bad one.
Up and down play? I'd take that apart and check the button. My button doesn't stick out like that
Well you are close. It looks like the cormorant bird from which they got the name.
are we going to talk about the fact that Kizer sent him this knife and still allowed him to be completely free and to even criticize the knife?
Didn't the pattern start with grenades if not something before that?
Yes. Fragmentation grenades from the army.
Just bought it. Its so sexy. Even if thats an unfortunately unpopular opinion.
Hi. I see what you’re talking about on your button. I’ve just looked at four different sites with photos of the button from the manufacturer and yours is way too proud. You need to return that knife and get a replacement.
I second that concern with the design of the button lock. Can’t help but wonder whether this is a design mistake which resulted from using the same button lock hardware on a Cormorant with a different scale width than other variants. Hopefully, Kizer will remedy this design flaw in upcoming releases.
As for the sound emanating from that squeaky button lock, it has less appeal to many of us than a screaming goat.
Man Kizer had a sale almost a year later and I got one off of Amazon for 90 bucks out the door 😂
I actually like the looks and deployment methods on this. The design having the button post going through the blade and having the button threaded on is just silly though. Too problematic. This one was a bust for me. I don't even trust it enough to give it away
I wish they would have gone the direction Spyderco did w/ the smock.
spyderco military 2 coming soon on bladehq :o
8:50 Um its a Cormorant Bird itself. While similar to a pelican, I assume that is where the shape and or name came from, the actual cormorant bird. 🤠👍
Thumbnail close up made me think it was a keyboard, lmao. I usually watch a lot of keyboard videos.
It seems like the ugliest knives are some of the best cutting tools. However, I am still on the fence with this one considering all the cool knives Kizer just released.
GPK knives just got some Malibu’s in. You’re welcome 🤙
You know why it’s called a “frag” pattern? Because it’s from the pattern on the mk2 anti personnel fragmentation grenade. No knife maker made that pattern.
No. The 1915 Mills bomb came first. The original "frag" grenade.
its a fubar design MC thanks for addressing this.. even the Micarta version will easily disengage if you hold it -even gently- left handed
👏👏👏
My only complaint is that it's not in stock
They have them at the Kizer store on Aliexpress. I got one with a $25 off coupon! $150
“Looks like a pelican with a buzz cut” - Congrats you just described a real cormorant, lol
As a lefty this guy is wrong I can grip it anyway and the button doesn’t get pressed and he’s wrong his button isn’t screwed down all the way lol
I traded mine off. I had this one and the action wasn’t near as good as my other one. I also have the Ti one with the X’s on it and it’s awesome. This one though, at least the one I had, must have not went through QC. I took it apart and it had some sort of groove or something at the base of the blade near the pivot. It was terrible. The action was awful. Not sure about the others. The one with the X’s is sick though. Way better action.
Do they both have identical, extendobuttons
@@Omniseed yes they do
Why must I be lefty in a right handed world…. Would love a button lock but don’t want the risk of slicing my hand open…. again
I’m left handed and have regular non ti cormorant and honestly I don’t know how you could depress the button in any reasonable grip so much so that I would absolutely recommend it to any lefties
@@andyhayward1261 I’ll have to look into one.
Ugly duckling for sure . Eye of beholder? Yea just like muddy brown , green creek moss scales lol
The original frag pattern was on the us army’s fragmentation grenade. You know, the pineapple grenade from Vietnam days. So basically, they all stole the design from the govt 🤣
You can't really patent squares though
@@Omniseed it was a joke, hence the 🤣
Can you weigh in grams (also) in the future? The rest of the world has no idea wtf an ounce is
96% of my audience is from the US. We do the same math right? Sorry
@@metal_complex Bro just say yes. 96% of the world isn't American
@@123jethroI don't care what the population of earth is. My actual viewing audience is 96% US based. Be seated
What is one ounce?
Alright that's the last jab at the lanny guys im gonna take LMAO. I'm outta here 😆
😅 "Like a Pelican with a buzz-cut." Well, a Cormorant is a coastal, fish-eating bird like a Pelican, but it looks a lot more like the bird it is named after. Cormorants are not all that attractive birds so, I think they know how it looks.
Not so much nick picking as being thurough.
How dare you call spydercos ugly.... the are so damn sexy
Ugly 😮. I have always liked the aesthetic of the cormorant
👍👍🤠🤠🎯🎯🗡🗡🔪🔪
7:54 I came here for one test.
If you want a 'practical use' knife review this is not the right channel. This guy is a knife collector and there is nothing wrong with that; he is certainly great at detailing the specs, industry background and 'fidgetability' of a knife. Just dont expect to learn much about the actual abilities and practical use of a knife.
